Looking forward to her actually playing. Hopefully it won't be too hard for her to get back into matches.

Well we'll have to see if she actually plays :tape:.

The draw is pretty open though. The big stars are Clijsters, who may withdraw, and Sharapova, who is hardly in form lately. There are plenty other in-form players, like Kvitova and Petkovic, but hopefully she can stay away from them, and otherwise the draw is not that strong, so hopefully she can do well :).

Since she withdrew, why don't we use this thread for the French Open instead .

Ágnes is playing Govortsova in the first round. Not the hardest draw, but Ági is injured and Olga has already won three qualifying matches.

They are playing on Court 8, last match. Today.

I know they're already playing, but I forgot to post this (http://www.wtatennis.com/headtohead/agnes-szavay_2255881_11168/0,,12781~11168~10569,00.html) earlier :o for once an opponent Ágnes has played before :hah: hopefully that fact that Ági knows she has beaten Olga before (and in three sets) will help her confidence. She usually has a good three set record, so I really hope she can come through here!!!

iGOAT
May 23rd, 2011, 03:28 PM
BTW Ági has second round points to defend, so a win would help a lot... And next would be Bartoli/Tatishvili, which seems like a very potential major upset. Not to get ahead of myself .

iGOAT
May 24th, 2011, 01:07 AM
Ugh. Well surprise, surprise Ágnes chokes away a break lead in the third to lose. Of course she always has to make it close before losing :smoke:. I just don't know what to think at this point... Hopefully she stayed healthy, which it seems she may have since she lasted for three long sets and almost one. But apparently she wasn't motivated, which is just so idiotic.

iGOAT
May 24th, 2011, 01:08 AM
So she's playing doubles with Dekmeijere against Irena Pavlovic and Thorpe. This is EXTREMELY winnable, so good luck girls :).

Wait, so is it true that Ágnes is done for the year? I don't know what to think of it...

Tough loss . I followed the end of the third set on the scoreboard because I had a break from class, and it almost killed me :sobbing:

It was winnable, but I guess we'll have to wait longer for a good run from her. I think her ranking will suffer :sobbing:

What???????????????????? :sobbing::sobbing::sobbing:

I'd rather have Slumpavay from 2008-2010 out there than no Agi at all :sobbing:

This is indeed very sad news if it is true

Ágnes is on Court 11 in doubles right now :) good luck to Dekvay :bounce:.

Looks like it's not true as she's playing doubles.

I disagree though. I would rather have Slumpvay than NO Ági, but if a break will make her healthier and more motivated, than she really should take it. She still has a long future so rather than damage it now she should do what's necessary to ensure success for it.

She said she won't play, at least for a half year, but she is still playing doubles here, because she promised Dekmeijere weeks before. So I suppose this doubles match is her last one.

She also said something like that she had played in the last weeks, and now in the Roland Garros because of the severe WTA rules, and playing here in singles has some advantages in case of her comme back after a half or a whole year. (But she did not explained which advantages)

OMG .

Is it because of the injury or motivation?

Dekvay beat Irena Pavlovic/Thorpe  the score was 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-3. They were down 5-1 in the first (when I left) so REALLY good job .

Kai-Chen Chang/Scheepers or Peschke/Srebotnik up next :scared: hopefully the former :p.

Yeah... Second seeds :o.

The match will be first on Court 5 tomorrow. Not televised, unfortunately, but I plan to follow at least the latter stages of it (assuming it's not over really quickly) so hopefully some of you will be in the livescores thread.

so is true that we won´t see Ági until 2012?!.Dunno what to think...she needs to rest, that´s for sure, but OTOH a year feels like a long way to go,moreso when this season had just began :..but well wishes to Agi,hope she fills these physical problems that are bothering her and then comes back strong and motivated..she must know that her fans will be waiting :)

The hope would be that similar to some players (such as Christine) who take breaks, Ágnes will remember why she plays tennis and re-gain motivation, because she really hasn't had it since the slump began.

Just a break to rest and hope the injury will heal by itself or is she undergoing surgery/treatment?

Just a break to rest and hope the injury will heal by itself or is she undergoing surgery/treatment?

first she is asking experts what alternate treatment they can offer. She really doesn't want surgery. Obviously if she rest enough it will be better, but not entirely and she can reinjure herself quite easily.
(a surgery, just what i read... damage is between 2 vertebra, so basically they would fix 2 vertebra together with bolts, so these could only move together. But this would put more pressure to the rest of her spinal, or even injure other parts. Very low chance she can play pro tennis anything after surgery.)

there is nothing new info in the last 1-2 weeks actually.

Corswandt

So basically, even in the best case scenario, it's very unlikely she'll ever be able to play a full schedule of pro tournaments again.

Damn, that sounds bad. I hope she is still able to play some good tennis in the coming years.

pretty much you can put it that way, i think.

if she doesn't want the surgery, its possible the "resting" needs way more time than half year. or 1 full year.

well, Agi says its 2-3 years, so its long i guess.
Problem was, they did many MRI scan, but actually thats a bit useless to find stress fracture. Safina told Agi to meet her doctor in Madrid after Marbella Tournament, and he was first who used CT scan, that showed it...

(again, this is just what i read in the articles. i know nothing else.)

Sad to hear about these news :( What do you think will she retire soon? If yes, hopefully she can change seamlessly to her new life without professional tennis.
