Has anyone seen the US version? I could barely make it through the first episode. It was GODAWFUL! :o

I have and it was an adaption of the 1st british one and the American copy and toned down version was shit, but the following episode was good.

I always say I'll not like the new cast but end up watching the whole series anyway  Even though it'll never be as good as the first 2 series :(

made myself watch an episode but could not finish it. :hysteric: It is just too much out of the box for me, having in mind how superficial I am :tape:

I watched it with reasonably high expectations, that were inevitable shattered. The premise was actually quite promising, but the characters were so one-dimensional, despite the attempts to try and present Frankie as some kind of complex psychological study. I just found her character utterly unbelievable, as i did with all of them to be honest.

I thought the acting was extremely below-par too. The bully girl (Mia?), sounded like she was in autocue mode for the first half, and then nigh on losing the plot in the second half. The storyline seems contrived too, and the characters too detached from one another. In the first 4 seasons of skins, there was a clear link that linked the characters. As a result, it kind of conflicts with the Skins format as a whole.

Nice ideas, but shitty acting and uneven formula ruined it for me.

I liked the first episode of the series 5 but I dare say that was not Skins, the charm of the first generation has gone I think. I mean, the plot was quite interesting (I didn't like the Frankie girl though), but that was banal as well. I've really seen that before, a teenager who's rejected by the crowd, the whole theme of popularity etc. And every time they showed Minnie or what's her name I couldn't help thinking of Mean Girls
But that was just the first episode, maybe they'll do better.
As for the Us version, I turned it off after seeing what they've done with Cassie, Maxxie, Tony and others (except for Michelle probably). The very idea of switching Skins characters to American ground seems kinda weird cause the series are very British methinks.

Went in with pretty low expectations but didn't think it was too bad. The acting was pretty poor in parts but I remember thinking the same at the start of series three and it did get better. Definitely nothing on the the original cast, but it was never going to be. Still watchable though so i'll still check out the next few episodes.

I watched it with reasonably high expectations...

You should know not to do that by now

I watched it without really expecting too much. The only character I liked was Grace to be honest. We'll see if it improves any, I'd like to think so because that episode was really uneventful. I'll obviously keep watching though, it's still decent enough.

I quite like it.

I prefer it over Gen 2, despite Naomi and Emily are still quite :hearts:

Grace/Frankie/Allo/Richard are :yeah:
It's a bit different from the rest I suppose. There's that awesome foursome, and then there's Regina George..

The first episode of most seasons is sorta meh i guess, and i think they will probably make it so that the whole cast somehow becomes friends or something.
Still skins clearly does get less good each new generation ill watch it anyway.

Toned down? Aren't the typical conservatives over there having a shitfit about it and threatening to sue for 'child pornography' or something stupid like that?

Trust them to put a gay cheerleader (not that I mind watching;)) instead of a gay male...and Maxxie isn't even really stereotypical...

On topic, I haven't checked it out yet but I dunno if I could move past Naoem:drool:

Haha its a little toned down cos theres no swearing or the woman at the start when tony looks out the window, just little things.

Well i guess peope more widely accept lesbians than gays but yeah maxxie wasnt a stereotype so it shouldnt really have mattered but i guess it sorta stops it from being a replica of series 1 and 2

Was I the only one who didn't know Franky was a girl at the beginning?

The episode wasn't that bad...I really like the Matty vs Franky scene :)

To follow suit, it'll be one of the guys probably.

That said, I don't even think they told us any of the guys' names :weirdo: I'm not 100% who's actually meant to be part of the main cast tbh.

Hmm... Franky, Alo (red-haired), Rich (the guy with the long hair), Mini (the blond bitch), Nick (the bitch's boyfriend), Matty (the mysterious guy) and then the two minions, Grace and Liv.. :p

Did they mention half of those on the episode? I know they mentioned the girls and Mini's boyfriend but I didn't know the rest. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention

Franky was pointing a gun to Matt (I think that's what he was called)

Well Matty was the guy Franky pointed a weapon at...and the other two made some appearances during the episode (trying to enter Mini's party etc..) and in the end they went with Franky and Grace to the pool :)

Did they show the whole cast in detail in ep 1 of season 3? i think they only showed a small bit of pandora and emily and katie but still more than this ep i think

I don't mind Rich as a character - but the punk music was totally offputting for me. Did you really think listening to heavy metal at full volume won't kill your ears?

I love Grace though. She's fucking amazing. Even though it was titled Rich, it was Grace's episode.

Next episode is Mini's :D should be good :p

I really enjoyed that episode. Rich is sweet:awww: and Grace is such a likable character.
It does annoy me how we see so little of the other characters in the episodes though. The cast was much more of a big group in seasons 1-3 and I think it worked so much better that way.

they did sorta do this in season 4 too, like not all the characters were in episodes like JJ's season 4 one.
For me rich was boring as, shit character! i love grace thought shes just amazing.

Mini starts off the episode as a superbitch. :o

It's so obvious that Mini is a virgin and is not as self-confident as she potrays to the public. :p
Jal 2.0 is so.....boring :o

I think the last two episodes showed a marked improvement to the first two, but the storylines and character relations are just so contrived by series 5. So under-developed, and any attempt at dramatic revelation is just quashed by the generic plot.

The acting is still wasteful IMO. Compared to the terrific acting in seasons 1-2, it just isn't carrying the franchise along.
