:haha:

I couldn't stop laughing with her (partly because it was uber-funny, partly because I was releasing all the tension that had built up inside me)

"I couldn't sleep last night, cause my husband was like *imitates snoring*"

"Congratulations, today is your 5th wedding anniversary!"
"What? Today?"
*looks at husband*
"Is today?"

We've had some seriously hysterical on court interviews recently.

Schiavone post RG. Clijsters 'I an not pregant', and Li Na now.

I've never been a fan of Na's but I've definitely become one today. That interview was as clutch as her saving matchpoint.

love this tournament!!! all the girls are showing so much personality. it's so annoying that espn is doing this feature on the lack of serena williams, because this tournament has just been so entertaining on AND off the court.

I don't buy all of this. She studied in the USA at Uni for 2 years, been on the tour for 9 years. More likely her management company decided to hire a scriptwriter to give her a few one-liners to say now she's so high profile and giving live interviews.

Q. They call her the great Danish wall, but you have the great Chinese wall. So it was easy, no?

There have been lots of other players who don't speak English well, and I can tell you right now that almost none of their interviews resemble Na's. Usually they just say a few simple generic tennis phrases and don't really answer the question. Na gives humorous answers that not even fluent English speaking tennis players would think to say.

No, I also think Na is charming - she smiles and she laughs and I think that has a lot to do with it. But I also think that if she spoke fluent English and said the exact same things it wouldn't have the same effect.

Schiavone is the same way.

“Yesterday I got a text message from the federation boss,” said Li, who was allowed to manage her own career by the state-run tennis association in 2009 but still pays 10 percent of her earnings to them.

“She said, ‘Oh, well done. You come back, I pay the dinner’. I said, ‘What, only the dinner?’”

Li has dashed stereotypes of the driven and serious Chinese athlete by joking about her snoring coach and husband among other things. But she said the wisecracks would stop if she mounted the podium to collect the Daphne Akhurst trophy.

A question about whether she had discussed her success with China’s NBA pioneer Yao Ming was too much to resist, however.

“I think he’s a little bit far away for me right now,” she said of the Houston Rockets centre.

After her match against Petra
Off court, but still hilarious:

“I don’t know what happened. Maybe it’s just my husband left and I was able to win six games in a row,” joked Li, who became the first Chinese player to reach the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.

After falling in the Australian Open final to Kim Clijsters, Li lost four consecutive matches and decided it was time to stop the slide.

She started working with new coach Michael Mortensen in April before the Madrid Open, and their collaboration immediately paid off as she reached the semifinals in the Spanish capital.

Li said she needed a break from her husband both on and off the court after three years of working together.

“Of course I was tired,” she said. “And also after Melbourne I didn’t do well. So I needed to change the team a little bit to improve a lot. That’s why I asked for Michael. He’s from Denmark. I ask him to help me, and now the husband is (my) hitting partner.”

Li tried not to hurt her husband when she told him their collaboration was over and said she didn’t use the word “fired.”

“I would never say that,” she said. “I mean, it’s tough. … So I tried to never say, ‘I fire you.”’
