When she brought up Kim's loss to Vera in the Doha championships. she knew Kim was already in the semis before this match with Vera. it was a dead rubber for Kim. even the commentators on the tennis channel thought Kim wouldn't take the match too seriously knowing it didn't matter if she won or lost it. of course they didn't have the balls to say this on tv. instead they said this on twitter before the match started. good luck in the AO semi Kim!

I have found MJF rather annoying throughout this tournament and some others. She is obviously very biased towards certain players, and not very knowledgeable in tennis history.

Very biased Thrust. especially towards the willliam sisters. MJF always says any match is in their hands. very annoying! when you say crap like that it totally takes all the credit away from the other player when they win. she says this comment for mostly power players. she doesn't seem to think when power players lose it was ever deserved. she always makes excuses. :fiery:

She's also biased toward Sharapova and Federer (especially him, since her husband works for him).

she doesnt want the sisters to play the olympics in 2012,this is at her husband behest since he is pova s agent...this will make it easier for her to win a gold medal without the sisters on board.she is very shady...

I agree. I get the feeling that many of the posters constantly talking about class here are akin to a group poor orphans that never stop chattering about gold and silver.

So you're saying Kim tanked the match?
Because she can be fined for that  No one goes about in public saying they tanked the match

Vera is more than capable of beating Kim at any time. MJF is meh to me. Everyone on ESPN is biased though so nothing new

Yep. Also, I don't know if MJF should assume that players are tanking, better to assume that players want to win when they are playing a match.

No kidding.

Typical TF extremes. Tanking means deliberately losing. So in other words according to you a player either gives it their all - 100% or tanks = sets out to lose - 0%. Nothing in between

So many matches nowadays are so close. In order to be in the top 5 - the players must give absolutely everything. If they drop their level just one or two percent - they will lose so many more matches. I doubt they'd be top 20. The gap in skill isn't big enough a player can afford not to give total all out committment.

In a dead rubber in the YEC - I'm sure no player "tanks" - i.e.sets out to lose. But I just don't think they take the risk of injury or exhaustion to go flat out at 100% and then a bit more. And when they drop down to 99%, 98% effort - they lose just a few more points that will so often make the difference between winning and losing.

The other difference is being able to be totally mentally focused. However much they may try. If it isn't there - a player may find it just impossible to be able to switch it on for a match that doesn't really matter.

Well, I take it that you might not like her. I don't find any problem with her comments. Generally, I don't pay attention to ESPN, tennis channels, or any commentators. She seems to know what she's talking about, in my opinion. My suggestion: try not to take words or biases or opinion too seriously. When watching tennis, I watch the moment and see how congruent the comments are lots of times.

She doesn't work for CNN or a news agency, she comments on SPORTS. Hell if you couldn't have conflicts of interests, Wilbon would NEVER be allowed on TV.

And bias? Are we really saying MJF is a good example of a biased sportscaster/commentator?? Have none of you watched golf? Those people are so far up Tiger's ass its not even funny!
