There is a reason why Kim was taking so many huge cuts at the ball (making around 40 errors in today's match). She is not moving well to her left side, if Zvonareva can make her hit more bhs and then move when the opening is there, will stand a good chance.

Kim hates when Vera pins her to the BH corner, this court is slow enough for Vera to impose her game on Kim even more than she did at Rogerscup/Wimbledon.

Clijsters is not about to lose to Zvonareva.

Playing horrible against Cornet and Radwanska is a luxury because she can beat them at that level. She seems to have a hold on when she should pick it up this time in her career.

I want Kim.

I think, though, Vera, based on form in this tournament.

The fact this is a SF and not a slam final tips it Vera's way for me - Kim looks sluggish off the ground, heavy in the legs, and inconsistent with her groundies. Vera on the other hand has looked quite controlled with her tennis.

Vera takes this, narrowly.

Jan 26th, 2011, 02:39 AM
For Vera, I think playing Kim in a SF than a F will be easier on her mentally, but I don't know if it will get her to the final. I think Kim will raise her game enough to frustrate Vera and make her think about the moment. I pick Kim in 2 tight sets.

This poll is already proof enough of my earlier argument. Even if Kim wins more now her real peak was 2003-2005. The Kim of 2003-2005, heck even 2006, nobody would think of whether or not she will beat Vera, especialy in a slam semifinal.

tennis-insomniac
Jan 26th, 2011, 02:44 AM
It is definitely hard to say, but I'd put my risk for Kim. There's a greater chance for Zvonareva to win, but Kim is a great champion so you'd never know.

If Kim keeps up and control her tempo, Zvonareva can struggle tremendously because Kim can produce faster up-beat tennis with great variety of angles. The key is that Kim needs to play at her best because, in this form Zvonareva, will not give her any easy points. Moreover, I think if the match is played in early in daytime it will give slightly advantage to Kim as well.

When Kim is truly tested, she will step up her form.

That's because Vera wasn't as good back then.

I mean nobody would give Vera of TODAY any chance vs the Kim of 2003-2005, especialy in a slam semifinal. The only people who could beat Kim back then were Venus, Serena, Justine, and on rare occasion Davenport, Sharapova, or Mauresmo. People like Vera even at her current level wouldnt be given a hope.

Vera is generally already a tricky player for Clijsters, let alone with the presence of that strapping on her left leg. The commentators on the match were saying that it was purely for preventative reasons, and that she was still in tip top shape. Hello, if she was in tip top shape, that tape wouldn't be there, and it clearly affected her movement.

Kim struggled against Radwanska today in the second set, and given that her next opponent, Zvonareva, possesses more fire power than Radwanska, and is generally quicker than Agneiska means that Kim is going to be in for a tough Semi final. Radwanska could've easily taken the match to three sets had she not attempted some stupid drop shots mid rally on the deuce at 5-4.

Given that Vera has had previous wins over Clijsters, I would put my money on Vera. If Vera doesn't collapse mentally, Clijsters is going to need to go out there, get inside Vera's head, and be prepared to take huge cuts at the ball, as she won't be able to over power Vera as easily as Radwanska, and Vera will be looking open up the court and expose Clijster's upper leg injury.

The most concerning thing of all is that Clijsters said in her post match on court interview that she felt tired and heavy in the legs. This seems alarming, given that all her previous matches have been drubbings, and she has had a day in between them.

I have no doubt. Its gonna be a Wozniacki - Zvonareva final. They've been defeding so well while playing safe and effective tennis. Kim is making too many errors and Na Li will implode. :o

If Henin were in the semis playing like shite, I bet there wouldn't be any complaining from you. It's OK though... I know how it feels when someone you don't like is winning because opposition is crap/injured

You are truly pathetic. Bringing up Henin in a thread that has nothing to do with her. Nice to know you are that obsessed with her though. Then again I am talking to someone who thinks players who lose over half their serve games vs top players and serve 3 times more double faults than service winners against top players are good servers.

OK will change what I said since you dont seem to like it. Vera is way better than Kim and would kick any version of overrated Kimberly's ass. Happy now.

If you asked me this a few weeks ago I would have said Kim but i don't think she'll win this one. Kims serve is very on and off and against a player with the hands of Zvonareva who can manipulate shots, who's had all the pressure taken off of her by not been favoured to win the title she's almost been released on the tournament to play her own game almost pressure free. I've been so impressed with Veras maturity and her game this Slam. She's totally overlooked as a contender and I think she's always been more of a threat to win than Caroline. Should be a good match

TuxedoSlam
Jan 26th, 2011, 10:17 AM
Vera has been way more consistent and looks very fresh. Kim has this tired 'do I really have to' look on her face and will have to step it up considerably to beat Vera. Could be an interesting match.

Kim in 3 close sets

DownInAHole
Jan 26th, 2011, 10:20 AM
I really like Vera's chances. Kim hasn't been playing her best and in the matches I've seen she has had times where she lost focus and allowed lesser opponents into the game. As long as there are no injured spectators, cannon fire and crying babies I'm picking Vera to win in three sets.

KClijsters
Jan 26th, 2011, 11:27 AM
I really have no idea. If she's playing the way she's doing now, Vera will win. I'm still not impressed with the way she's playing. But that's what I (and a lot other people) are saying after every match. That she will have to play a lot better otherwise she will lose. And every match she won in 2 set (even when she's playing really bad). It's everytime enough. So I'm just watching it and may the best woman win ;)

my main concern for Kim is if she is carrying an injury? I didnt see her match against Radwanska, I know she had her left thigh taped. I hope it was just for precaution, of her leg isn't a problem Kim will make it through, I just hope to god she's not injured!
