Pathetic from Clijsters getting bossed around by someone as useless as Radwanska and having to resort to outpushing her.

She should have won 6-1 6-2 at worst. At least if you're going to push, just moonball Radwanska to death. Something she is useless against.

No words for that BH especially on return.

She still has some works to do, it will be a hard match against Zvonareva, but after seeing her game is coming together toward around the fifth game, second set, if she maintains that game with enough consistency, she has a great shot. But for sure, the new Zvonareva is dangerously tough.

edificio
Jan 26th, 2011, 02:25 AM
Aga played very well for someone who wasn't expected to play the tournament at all. However, she still needs to work on aspects of her game (especially her serve!). Kim clearly has the better game, but she made sooooo many errors. Also, I don't think it was as terrible a much as some think.

You know it's a clown era when journeywoman like Mugdwanska makes it to slam QF and you know it's even worse when Pushsters can reach slam semi with her current level. A few years ago, you'd meet players like Agnieska in R1 followed by a much better ones at every stage. Fiona has no business past the 4th round with her current game. Awful. Hopefully someone can deny her the title.

Aga didn't even look pumped up, a chance at a semi final and she just plays completely within herself, rarely trying to force the play. If she wants to break through she has a lot of work to do.

Kim could afford to play like shit today. Hopefully she has got all the cobwebs out, seems to me that she has played worse after every match so the semi finals will be interesting.

Kim is not dominating off the ground the way we would normally expect and that's why she's having these long tricky rallies against players like Radwanska.

She shows she can win this way but it all seems much harder for her.

And I think she'll need to resume the power and the movement against Vera, this isn't likely to cut it.

Awww I became a fan of Radwanska tonight. She made some terrible mistakes but so did ole turkey legs (don't get mad, I like Kim). She is a smart player and isn't she a bit injured? I wanted her to get that 2nd set. I never really paid her much attention before but I like her game. She does alot for someone so slight with very little power and an adequate serve.

Kim better bring her best against crazy Vera. Vera has the ability to exploit the form Kim showed today.

kim was good enough. she played some amazing shots at times, just had a few lapses and easy UE's. will need to step it up a bit next round, but vera's cleaner and harder groundstrokes will surely help that as kim wont have to generate all the apce herself.

i think it could go either way vs vera but i'm still backing kim to win it

Jan 26th, 2011, 02:42 AM
I also thought it was an overall enjoyable match. Some very nice rallies.
Aga fought well and deserves a lot of credit considering she was doubtful to even show up for the tournament.
Kim had a bad patch from 4-2 to 4-5 0-30* and Radwanska should have closed the set there, but also a lot of nice winners. 40+ winners in a 2-setter is not a common occurrence in the WTA.
Of course she has to be a bit more consistent to get past Vera, and she will.

Jan 26th, 2011, 02:44 AM
That was a really ugly match from Kim. Would go 5 games hitting the ball really cleanly, then suddenly spray the ball all over the place for the next 5. And a lot of her errors were on big points like missing swinging volleys on 30-40 points and double faulting to give Aga break points.

She's still the favourite because of her experience and prior slam wins, but the gap has definitely closed. She'll need to play much better against Vera.

I worry a little bit about Aga because Kim couldn't have played a lot worse in the second set and still pulled it out. Aga definitely needs to add a bit more power to her game or at least play from the baseline rather than 1-2m behind it.

All I have heard from posters is people denying Kim's game and her apparent struggle to make it into the Semi Finals, yet watching her play, she is doing what needs to be done to win.

I enjoyed the match, some brilliant shot making and defence, Kim can defiantly pull out the strings when she needs to play.

By the books, I expect the next round to be more difficult, but I don't think a straights sets win is out of the question.

Pretty up and down match, there were some fun rallies in there with both anticipating the others' shots quite well, but also some sloppy play on Kim's part thrown in there too. Probably should have won that second set easier than she did, but win's a win. She'll have to step it up from here in though against players left who are more consistent (Caro, Vera) or more dangerous off the ground (Li) than Aga.

It's funny how only people on tennis boards call her a pusher. Not that it's a bad thing though. I just wanted to let you know that Kim and other top players do not see Radwanska as a pusher. Compare her to Wozniacki, who's a typicall pusher. Radwanska slices the ball, she actually has a decent volleys and uses them often, she's using also drop shots alo and she follows them by going to the net. Not something your average pusher can do IMO.

moby
Jan 26th, 2011, 07:17 AM
Radwanska isn't a pusher. She's just useless.
She struggles to put away even midcourt sitters.

Jan 26th, 2011, 07:20 AM
A win is a win.
Some brilliant tennis at moments from Kim, but again so many horrible errors...
Hitting a ball out (granted often just barely), when all that is left to do to win the point is just hit it inside the court, not even close to the lines.
Please only bring your brilliant tennis next match(es) and leave the errors at home...
Anyway, congrats on reaching another slam semi!

Oh yeah and she looks grumpy and her boobs are bigger.

Jan 26th, 2011, 09:16 AM
Kim obviously looked like she doesnt enjoy the match at all, being on the court.
But the good thing was she knew what she was going to do. Play as hard as she can and go for it all the time. In or out, she just wanted to get to the next point. Another great thing, when there was an important point, she made sure she wins it. You could see Aga is not gonna take it to three sets, because when Kim´s hit&miss got her to danger (or Aga hit some rare winner) e.g. at 6/3,5/6 0:30*, Kim stepped it up and went on to win the match.

Kim is such a high level player. She knew she was better than Radwanska and her level is solid enough now to beat her, she could afford to play that kind of tennis that day, even when it was an important QF.
And she explained she felt heavy legs/didnt feel good out there.

Also Kim has probably the best cross court shots. Her BH CC was killing A-Rad. Still when she plays that short BH CC there is not SOOO much spin, it seems like lucky sometimes (going 1-2cm over the net and landing close to the side line)

Hope she keeps it up. Clijsters-Li final or Clijsters-Wozniacki final should be HQ

It wasn't that bad as most of the posters say. For me it was definitely more enjoyable than Petra vs Vera.

First of all well done Kim. She made tons of dumb errors but she's still a favourite for the title for me.

As for Agnieszka. First set was very disappointing. She was usually very passive and got easily overpowered by Kim, she basically had no answers. Then she started trying to play her game in the 2nd set (with Kim's help) and it payed off, but still she didn't took the risk in the key moments. 5-4 30-0 she had the initiative and played into Kim's racket rather sending that BH DTL  Yet I can't be angry with her game today. She tried her best, made some really good shots but her movement is still not 100%. It was a great tournament overall for her

Although I agree Kim didn't play her best, and has to step it up big time against Vera, I want to put some things in perspective.

Many people at TF are whining about Caro & Vera being boring, retrieving only and not attacking, being "pushers", few UE but also few winners. Kim hit a load of UE, often because she went for too much - but she hit more winners (Only Fran hit the same amount of winners, but a bit more UE), and same people are still whining.
Look at the stats from the QF:
Caro 13/15 W/UE
Vera 11/12
Na 13/15
Kim 41/37
Fran 41/46
Aga 14/13
Petra 17/28
Andrea 11/43

Kim has to cut back the UE, but I am glad she was going for her shots, and making so many winners. Previous rounds her W/UE was a lot worse.

Maybe not good, but it was enough to win. And a win is a win!

The comments are really funny. After every match people were tellling: she really has to play better the next match otherwise she will loose. And than she playing bad again and still win in 2 sets  So everytime she's playing it's good enough. Kim can't help it that the rest is so bad that they can't take advantage of Kim's 'bad' play ...

Aga was better than most of here expected. I was very surprised with how good her approaching shots were, I was 100% certain she will be ridiculed by Kim. Very accurate net game. Her ROS is also much better. The fact that she doesn't have too much from the baseline is well-known, I actually sense a little bit of improvement there too. Well done :)

Kim was so poor in the middle of 2nd set, she was lucky to escape the third (which she would have won anyway)

The comments are really funny. After every match people were tellling: she really has to play better the next match otherwise she will loose. And than she playing bad again and still win in 2 sets

yea, it's good enough against the Makarovas and Radwanskas of the world. It won't be good enough against Zvonareva/Wozniacki/Na Li. But I'm sure Clijsters will rise to the occasion and play better in the semi/final. She's still the favorite to win this tournament I guess.

The Pushing Aga hit more winners than No. 1(3 sets), No. 2 and "super-offensive" Petkovic. Funny

And Na Li too...

Not that it matters.

Some great points, and some awful UEs  Thank God Kim finished it off, though. I would've had to boycott a Woz - Agag final had it made it that far :ras:

Go Vera!!

This was a entertaining match. and Kim actually played very well despite the 37 uf errors. she also nailed 41 winners on this slow court. that's impressive to hit that many winners on a slow court. even the guy's are having trouble hitting winners. on paper Kim should destroy Vera based on the winners alone by these two. its not even close.

Qualified improvement for both players.

Ratwanska won 9 games - an improvement over her three previous Slam QF appearances, in each of which she never won more than 4 games.

Kimberley ranged from sloppy to brilliant, which I suppose is an improvement from ranging from sloppy to sort of good as in the previous rounds.
