Hello and welcome to ART Acapulco

Acapulco is the fifth leg in the ART tour, coming one step closer to near the end of season 1 of the year long race. This is the first week where we see a divide between a clay court and a hard court tournament with the players entering here hoping they can earn some vital ranking points to determine if they will automatically qualify as one of the four singles players in the last race of the tour in Istanbul. But there is still a lot of work to be done and many of the top players have chosen Acapulco to continue their campaigns to qualify, including the likes of Victoria Azarenka, Alona Bondarenko, Mirjana Lucic and Nadia Petrova.

Points are due by Friday 20:00GMT. Send all Acapulco Points to no-hay-igual. Good luck everyone and enjoy the first clay court tournament of the year here in the lovely Mexican city of Acapulco.

Where in the World is Venus Williams?

Last week, in Doha the Queen of All Tennis, Venus Williams went missing--and police have been hot on the trail of the person who was behind the killings traveling all over the globe from Djibouti to Santiago to Inverness. International Police Officers have not really found anyone to blame--yet as previously stated the prime suspects of this case--Dominika Cibulkova and the Arch-Rival to the ART the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour have been followed yet--there has been no appearance of our long lost Queen. Police forces trailed Dominika Cibulkova to her many bars in Minsk and even were lucky enough to watch Dominika seducing a couple of men....it has been rumored that she was seen in a random bar seducing 5 men at once after her interview in which she was naked for. The second suspect--The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour--which is the main rival to the ART could have very realistically taken Venus by funding a terror group to take her--or perhaps a member of the Mafia. International Police forces have traced WTA Funds to a group in Mexico who just happen to be big bosses in the Drug Cartel war that is going on. It remains to be seen whether Venus is being held hostage right outside of Acapulco which means that she might still be able to make it to the tournament. More updates to come later.

No, she won't get thrashed. You need more than 500 points difference (or higher) to get set's score 6-0.

yes, to all your concerns, when i was doing the entry lists for Acapulco this week, i realized Henin only had 100 points for this tournament. For now, i have kept it the same because it was something i did not pick up on at the beginning. The minimum IS 300 points, however, this was more made a rule so we wouldn't have people putting 0 dollars in a tournament where many players would be missing tournaments.

Miloti, we have two options here, we either keep it as 100 dollars- although it is very unlikely you will win a match here this week

Or we re-negociate you schedule from Acapulco onwards where you will obviously have to subtract some points from the higher tournaments and transfer them into Acapulco. The choice is up to you.

Oh btw, all players playing here will all have new clay avatars :)

http://www.exposay.com/celebrity-photos/vera-zvonareva-10th-bnp-paribas-taste-tennis-0hJYqw.jpg

Q. So Vera, how does it feel after winning your first title on the ART tour?
It feels great, I mean me and Patty had a really good week together. We played a lot of tough opponents and in the end we were able to win which is great.

Q. You have been under performing so far, do you think this may be a sign that your heading back to the top?
Well I've been practicing hard and hopefully it pays off. I wish I had played better in my previous tournaments but can't change that now, can only look ahead.

Q. And your previous ankle injury seemed to be giving you some problems, how is that now?
At the moment it's fine, it tends to re-appear from time to time.

Q.What sort of results are you expecting from this tournament?
I'm just going to take it one match at a time you know. I list to Karolina Pliskova twice in a row (in the first round for the past two weeks) so I'm not expecting anything.

Q.Who is here with you?
My whole team are with me my coach, Sergiy, my mum and others.

Q.If you win the tournament, you get a special trophy and a Mexican hat, does that motivate you at all?
Oh yeah, definitely. I want that hat!

Q.Are you also playing doubles here?
Yeah I'm playing with Patty again, hopefully we can do well here.

Q.What's your favorite thing about Mexico?
OMG I love the food, Fajitas, Tacos, Tortillas, I can't get enough of it. I love it! :hearts:
More importantly I love the fans here, they are amazing.

Q.Do you think you'll be able to keep your tantrums in check this week?
Excuse me?

Your Tantrums?
What tantrums?

Well lets say your emotional on-court behaviour then
I've said this many times before, I always get asked the same thing. It's just who I am, I can't control it.

Q. Last Question. What's your outfit like?
Oh you have to wait and see. It's a surprise :hehehe:

Not even one clue.
Nope. You have to wait and see. :p

Good Luck Vera.
Thank you very much.

Dominika arrived.

http://img.cas.sk/img/4/article/365828_tenis-dominika-cibulkova-zlate-piesky.jpg
Dominika is relaxing after the training

Next star arrived to Acapulco. This time it was Dominika Cibulkova.

Q: So Dominika, first question. Are you still injured?

Originally said by Dominika
I had bad feeling, that I would hear question like this. And yes. I still feel pain in my leg. I still have problems with insects around me. Generally, I don't feel good.

Q: A lot of people in the tour, especially few players, say that your injury is fake, and this is your excuse, which you use to justify your poor performance in tour in this time.

Originally said by Dominika
Yes, I heard about these kind of slanders. But I really don't care about this. The most important thing for me, in tennis of course, is my health. If other players want to play with injury, it's OK. It's not business. I still talk with doctors, and prognosis is good. I hope I would be ready for big American tournaments.

Q: Now you play here. In Acapulco. Do you think you able to play anything good here?

Originally said by Dominika
Not really. I hope I will leave Acapulco without any serious injury.

Q: What do you think about your rivals?

Originally said by Dominika
I have big respect for them. Or maybe not to all of them, but generally I think some girls play good tennis, and they're big hope for this tour.

Q: You said, that you don't have respect for all them. About who you're talking about?

Originally said by Dominika
I'm sure everybody knows this, so I don't even mention them. And I guess some of them will start whine very soon.

Q: Any last word?

Originally said by Dominika
No. Or maybe. I promise that I will surprise my haters in USA.

Hey so I arrived in Acapulco, I've never played here before in my career and I'm really looking forward to it. I may or may not enter doubles, Laura is not playing here and I still need to find a partner if I want to play. Also, the clay I'm excited to play in it, it's been a while.

First I'd like to start by saying something about Mexico, it's only been a few days since I've been here but already - I love it. :hearts: Their food is amazing and I will definitely have to learn some recipes. I would also love to go sightseeing but unfortunately don't have much time to do that. I'll see once the tournament is over.

Next thing, I'd like to say thank you to all of you guys who have been supporting me, I appreciate it a lot and it's great to have your support. I didn't have the best results in singles in my past couple of tournaments but I am working hard to get slowly back. These things take time. My back no longer hurts but still I have to be very careful, as the injury could re-appear.

I won the Doubles title with Laura, that was a great feeling. We faced tough opponents in the final, but we managed to come through. We have really gotten to know each other and for sure would love to keep playing with each other when it's possible. Laura is playing Minsk this week so I wish her good luck.

I'd like to mention a few things I did in the off season as well, I practiced a lot with my brother which was good fun. It's funny because we like to tease each other a lot. Also I did some fitness training which I think was also a good idea. And finally I've just been practicing hard for this season.

I'm also getting more twitter followers so thanks for that, I don't know if it's because I posted a few pictures of my brother but anyway I have more followers so that's a good thing. There has been quite a lot of bitching going on twitter, but these people will remain unnamed. Some people have been trying to blackmail Laura, but she is still very young and I told her not to worry too much about these things and to just focus on her tennis and never mind what the say.

I also had a good Christmas and I hope you all did too. I got to spend some time with my friends and family. For a while, Me and my mum went to visit Tandil. A small city from where tennis champions originated. It is a very beautiful city. I don’t remember when was the last time I did so much sightseeing! If you love cheese you would find Epoca de Queso a paradise.

Next couple of tournaments I plan to play are Indian Wells, Miami, but I'll see later what I want to do about the rest of the schedule.

Finally my wish for this season is to stay fit and healthy.

Elena Vesnina (RUS) def. Liezel Huber (USA)
7-6(2) 7-6(3)

It was a tight affair but Elena came through in the end, holding off the resiliance from the American, Liezel Huber in two close tiebrakes. Elena looked very shaky to begin with and hasn't showed much consistent form throughout the first season of the ART tour but she did what she needed to do today and left Liezel pondering over how to beat her. Liezel couldn't do much in the tiebrakes with an increasing anmount of errors into the net, Elena not allowing here to dictate on serve or at the net. It was a good win for Elena but she has some work to do this week if she wants to dog deep in the tourny.

Laura Pous Tio (ESP) def. Kurumi Nara (JPN)
6-3 6-3

It was a battle of the newcomers out on centre court, with the clay court specialist coming out on top this time with a straight forward, 6-3 6-3 defeat of Japanese youngster Kurumi Nara. Laura looked in perfect form, striking the ball beautifully on both wings hitting with plenty of top spin and showing great poise on court. Kurumi showed good verstality in her game, showing a good balance of offense and defece but it was not enough to break down Laura who refused to back down playing her game and she will advance onto the second round.

Vera Zvonareva (RUS) def. Ajla Tomljanovic (CRO)
4-6 5-0 40-0 RET

Without actually winning a set, Vera Zvonareva advanced through to the second round after her Croatian opponent, Ajla Tomljanovic retired due to unknown circumstances. Ajla seemed fine in the first set, blasting down 24 winners over Vera's 15 unforced errors and she looked like she was set to continue last week's semi final performence in Misnk but after Vera took a medical timeout, Ajla came back tired and unmotivated. Or at least that's what it looked like. Vera hit an amazing 30 winners, Ajla just refusing to run for any of them. Vera knew there was a problem, but there was no mercy. Ajla won a total of 2 points, one of them being a double fault from Vera, the other an unforced error. Just as Vera was set to make things 1 set all, Ajla retired and has yet to given a reason why. A good second set performence from Vera and she advances through to the second round.

6-3 4-6 6-3

Another Spaniard is through to the second round and they are taking Acapulco by storm after Beatriz overcomes her nerves to down the talented Kristyna Pliskova in three sets. It was a topsy turvy match but in the end Garcia Vidagany produced some classic defesnive tennis to wait for the young Czech's errors which came plentiful. Beatriz's tactics were spot on today and she is definately one to look out for the remainder of the tournament. Kristyna played a good match but she just couldn't find a way to beat her opponent who advances to play one of the top 8 seeds here in Acapulco.

Heidi El Tabakh (CAN) def. Kim Clijsters (BEL)
6-2 3-6 6-4

It was a nail biting affair with both players playing some of their best tennis in parts but Heidi managed to hold her nerve to break in the tenth game of the last set, hitting hard down the line, kim not being able to retrieve Heidi's shots. Kim admitted after the match that this was her worst surface but in actual fact she did not play a bad match at all, really testing her higher ranked opponent. Kim just hasn't been able to get some wins in the first season of ART, unlucky for her today but that does not take away from Heidi's performence and she is looking in phenomenal form in just the first round of the competition and she advances through to the second round of the competition.

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS_Eo9i-zsyxWIHH8SkpuQ7qBwHeu--il74Yo9cdq7NcQrGs9wKLg

In an interview today Anabel has said

'I am so bored already of dominika attention seeking, yes maybe shes injured but she should'nt commit to doubles with poor Alize if she is. I feel sorry for the french girl she deserves so much more. Shes so injured she can go to the beach and health spa all in one week. I mean we all have our problems but we do not mess people around, Only the other day me and Pablo :inlove: had a disagreement but life sucks get on with it'.

Schynder also added

'I may not be the nicest person to get along with but I would certainly say If I was going to play doubles with someone I would stick to it. I feel sorry for elena she wants to play doubles and shes having to wait for this child to make her mind up if she can play. If she can play singles she can play doubles'.

Surely these comments will not go down well here in Acapulco, will any other girls speak out will dominika play, will elena play, will dominika seduce and hot mexican, will anabel win a sombrero you will just have to stay tuned this week to see what happens!

6-4 6-7(5) 6-4

And the fans are finally treated to a great match out on centre court ending up a win for the tournament eighth seed Johanna Larsson after an impressive display of a contrast between offensive and defensive play. This week's tournament blogger will be disapointed with the result but actually Dinara is starting to look a lot better out on court and if she works hard, there is no reason why we can't see her in the top 10 by the end of the year. Johanna is just too good at the moment and she is continuing a rich form which has seen her go to the semi finals of Stockholm and the finals of Minsk. She now advances through to the second round with a tough hard fought win over Dinara Safina.

Francesca Schiavone (ITA) def. Anabel Medina Garrigues (ESP)
6-3 7-6(2)

In only the second and last match of the day, Francesca Schiavone seemed at home in Acapulco, looking very relaxed on the clay court surface, downing Anabel Medina Garrigues in straight sets. Anabel was very fiery-tempered out there today, hitting ferocious winners and rarely missing a volley but Francesca kept Anabel at the baseline long enough to wait for those all expected unforced errors which eventually came from the Spaniard. Anabel could not make it 3 Spaniards in the second round of Acapulco and she bows out quite ungracefully, seen shouting taboo language down at her opponent- of course in Spanish which she was warned twice for by the umpire but this did not seem to phase Franny and she came out with a battling win in just over 90 minutes of play.

Dinara's Acapulco Blog

Hello, first of all I would like to say it's really nice to be playing on clay again. I had a tough match against Johanna Larsson, but unfortunately lost. It was 3 pretty tight sets, and in the end she just played better in the important moments - credit to her. This was also my first time playing here, I loved the atmosphere and the fans were great. I'm playing doubles with Kim this week, so I definitely have some time to go sightseeing. (And enjoy more of the tasty food!)

Anyway the other day I went shopping, I seen a store with a poster of me  I was so surprised, and it was a great feeling seeing that. I bought some nice tops and of course shoes (all girls need them!)

This week it's just my mum and my coach with me, but nice to have them around. Tommorrow I plan on practicing with Kim, and discuss a bit about strategies with her. Looking forward to our first match.

That's all for now. See you soon.

Zoom Zoom Zvonareva goes through!

http://cache2.asset-cache.net/xc/101009359.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=77BFBA49EF878921A343B2C87A49D8F51703D991238143F9 DF01B032527D4EFD5617BCC21100AC99F06BF04B24B4128C

After a series of round one defeats in the fast few tournaments, Zvonareva finally managed to get it together and defeat Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia. Zvonareva dropped the first set 6-4, both players managed to hold serve up until 4-4, where Zvonareva serves a DF on break point to hand her opponent the break. Vera however was quick to recover from this, racing to a 5-0 lead in the second set. Vera was 40-0 up and serving to win the set 6-0 when her opponent unexpectedly retired. Tomljanovic had shown no signs of injury, so it was strange to see her retire. This however did not detract any value from Vera's win, should she have won the second set 6-0, it looked quite clear she would go on to win the third.

Vera made a short statement:

I was playing really well during the first set, then unfortunately I DF on an important point, and handed her the set. I made a great effort to come back and looked as if it worked. It's unfortunate she had to retire but to be honest I don't know what was wrong with her, it was really unexpected. Nevertheless, I wish her a speedy recover whatever the problem is. I'm just happy to be in the next round and I will think about that match later. I am also going to play doubles with Schnyder, later in the week - looking forward to that.

Venus' Wonderland Outfit found in Tatters!
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports-sentinel-sports-now/files/2011/01/venusdress.jpg

Today, the investigators of the ART found something very disturbing. In the players lounge there was an unidentified bag, in which investigators discovered Venus' Wonderland outfit in a small black bag initialed D.C. which leads us to assume that the bag belongs to Dominika Cibulkova; however, this is not entirely possible unless Dominika jumped on a jet, went to Acapulco to seduce some Mexican men for her harem. So, this leads us to the question, who is trying to frame Dominika Cibulkova? There are unconfirmed reports of blood splatters on the dress, and its also rumored that a note was attached to the dress. An inside source told us, The letter that we found with the bag, demanded that we fix the tournament for a certain player--so whoever wins, should be the one who is financing this theft of Venus Williams.

According to that quote, we shall have to wait and see if the ART is forced to fix the matches in order to save Venus. We shall have to see who the winner of this tournament is before proceeding with our investigation. Although investigators know who the possible suspect is, its best to wait to make an accusation until they are entirely sure.

 Nobody wants to win Acapulco Now.

Dominika destroyed her opponent. Now Nadia on her way.

Dominika in SPA

Dominika spent the last few weeks of rehabilitation after a serious injury. But it seems that her troubles are over now. Today she crushed Caroline, who had to retire after 12 Dominika's 12 winners in row.

Originally said by Dominika
I feel sorry for her. I know how such injury could be danger and I hope she will back soon. But I feel really good in Acapulco so I wanna make really huge damage here and now I'm talking only about tennis.

Her next opponent will be Nadia Petrova, her friend from Beesley's team. Nadia in this season doesn't present good form, but she's now back to TOP 10.

Originally said by Dominika
It will be very interesting match. I think that I haven't played yet with Anna or Nadia. I think it will be very close match in which we both could lose.

Some press agencies announced today that in the players lounge was found the bag with Venus Williams's outfit. The black bag initialed D.C.

Yes, I've read this article. And I have to say, that if I was the kidnapper I would throw her clothes in the trash, cause it's horrible. And I would never keep this trash. So know I sure that kidnapper is moron.

It was the last question, because Dominika said she had leave us, because of personal issue. Wonder about she was talking about?

Johanna advances in Acapulco, next is Hantuchova.

http://c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I00009ebCFlu1rG8/s

After two, great weeks, Johanna Larsson went on her good moment by defeating Dinara Safina in her first round in Acapulco in three, fought sets: 6-4 6-7 6-4 the score who saw Larsson moving to the second round, where she will face Daniela Hantuchova, who defeated for "walkover" Venus Williams.
It has been a very hard match, where Larsson showed her skills and never gave up. People probably didn't expect this win, for two main reasons: first, Johanna was coming from two and hard weeks, but mainly she was coming from some sort of delusion: she lost in the final of Minsk to Karolina Sprem and, even if she made a good jump in the ranking, there was of course the possibility to have the first title of the season. Larsson lost in three sets last week to Minsk winner, and she showed people she could really have some big satisfactions this year.
Here's an interview after her win over Safina:

Interviewer
Hi Johanna! Before talking of your win today against Safina, we should speak about your great shape who allowed you to make a semifinal and a final in a row! Do you think you could go on this way for a lot of time?

Johanna Larsson
Hello! Well, I think this is of course my biggest desire, but I've to be careful. That's the first part of the season, so I have not to exceed. I feel good, I know I can do great things, so I'd try to do it!

Interviewer
What about the final of last week lost to Sprem? You could get your first title...

Johanna Larsson
I suffered a bit this loss, but not for the loss itself, but for what it represented. I've wasted a good opportunity, but Karo has been simply better. A dear person to me always said: "Sometimes you just need to accepte reality".

Interviewer
Today you defeated Dinara Safina after a long and hard fight. How could you win this match?

Johanna Larsson
That's really a good question! I don't know how... I've probably played better in the decisive moments, because during the match we have always been on the same level. I personally prefer this kind of win to a double bagel or something like that, because you can show you're a determinate player, and not only the one who sends the ball to the other part of the court.

Interviewer
Last question. You will face Daniela Hantuchova for a place in the Quarterfinals. Your feelings about this match?

Johanna Larsson
Daniela is a good player, so it won't be easy for me. But if there is something I learned week after week, the match speaks for itself, so watch us playing and, whatever will happen, we will talk of it tomorrow!

And of course I know who will win between Jo-La and Dani

Laura Pous Tio (ESP) def. (3) Mirjana Lucic (CRO) by walkover.

Today, Mirjana Lucic woke up with an incredibly bad headache, and she was unable to attend her match today. It's becoming increasingly trendy in Acapulco for players to withdraw from the event before they even begin. The ART tour might need to start looking into a RoadMap plan--and perhaps reduce the amount of time their players play. All is not lost though as Laura Pous Tio moves onwards!

El Tabakh Def. Henin (RUS)
6-3 3-6 6-2

In a back and forth match, the Canadian, El Tabakh was simply too much for the veteran Belgian. In the first set Henin went up 3-0 before losing the next six games to lose the first set 6-3. In the second it seemed like El Tabakh was easily on her way to victory, up a set and 3-0 in the second before Henin reeled off 8 straight games to make the score 3-6 6-3 2-0. Heidi responded by changing her strategy again--this time to much effect as she neutralized Henin's game en route to a 6-2 final set victory!

In a ho-hum match, both players went through patches of GOAT-like tennis, and then through patches of tennis where they couldn't even find the court. It was a pretty terrible display of tennis, although there was a great battle of wills between the leggy Slovak, and the fiesty Swede. Daniela really should have had this match in the bag as she was up a break 3-1 in the third before she remembered that she was supposed to choke away her tennis matches. How unfortunate. Good luck in the next round!

Victoria Azarenka (BLR) and Alona Bondarenko (UKR) def.Kurumi Nara (JPN) and Kristyna Pliskova (CZE)
6-4 4-6 6-3

Vika and Alona had the match in their hands from the get go despite a mini collapse in the second set. It was a fantastic effort from Nara and Pliskova despite being the massive underdogs they managed to impress with their variety of shots. On full display in the second set was the fantastic strategy of Nara hitting an excellent drop shot, and Pliskova following it up with a beautiful lob. This strategy couldn't be duplicated however as Azarenka and Bondarenko began to employ the use of angles in order to keep their opponents on the run in the third set.

Larsson and Hantuchova
http://www.independent.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00193/_Daniela_Hantuchova_193586t.jpg
Johanna Larsson (SWE) and Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) def. (1) Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) and Alize Cornet (FRA)
4-6 7-6(2) 6-3

In a fantastic match--one of the better ones today so far, Daniela and Johanna stunned the number one seeds in a comeback of epic proportions. Alize had an easy time in the first set motivating Dominika as she used Dominika's hatred of Laura Robson to get her to play well. Dominika and Alize found themselves up a set and 5-0 with Dominika serving. Domi quickly made it 30-0 with two aces down the T. Alize made it 40-0 when she hit a beautiful down the line winner. This is where it started to go downhill. Dominika got distracted by some eye candy that she found in the crowd, and poor Alize was left to combat the combined forces of Johanna and Daniela. By the time that Dominika came back down to earth it was too little too late, as Daniela and Johanna had gained the momentum they needed to sweep to victory!

Beatriz Garcia Vidagany (ESP) and Laura Pous Tio (ESP)
Beatriz Garcia Vidagany (ESP) and Laura Pous Tio (ESP) def. (4) Liezel Huber (USA) and Venus Williams (USA) WALKOVER

Venus Williams was still missing today--its a tragic event that is gaining more and more media attention. Liezel Huber showed up and volunteered to play Canadian Doubles for the entire match as long as she could move on if she won. This was not possible as according to ART rules you need at least 4 players on the court to play a doubles match. In a Breaking News update it was discovered that Heidi El Tabakh had been caught with some of Venus' Eleven Apparel, prompting investigators to investigate any unusual betting activities associated with her match.

Beatriz Garcia Vidagany (ESP) def. Patty Schnyder (CZE)
6-3 6-7(0) 7-5

The run of the Spaniard continues! Beatriz defeated Peppermint Swiss Patty Schnyder in a tight match today in Acapulco. Vidagany won the first set with relative ease as she broke Schnyder to love twice, while holding her own serve with relative ease. The second set was a different story as Miss. Peppermint Swiss was spray painting the lines with her balls in a stunning fashion after starting 3-0 down. That form continued well into the tiebreak as she destroyed Vidagany's game plan. The third set was another tight tussle that saw Schnyder get increasingly frustrated with how things were going. This lead to one of the coldest handshakes of the year yet as Schnyder practically pretended that Vidagany didn't exist.

Francesca Schiavone (ITA) def. Bondarenko (ESP)
6-3 7-6(2)

In a match that was delayed for hours due to maintenance on the court they were due to play on--Alona messed the court up by hitting a smash so hard in the warm up that it got stuck in the court. This match was all Francesca all the way from the get go. Schiavone used an array of slice combined with an amazing in between the legs shot to pull through in the second set tiebreak, thus clinching the match.

Heidi El Tabakh (CAN) and Anabel Medina Garrigues (ESP) def. Francesca Schiavone (ITA) and Justine Henin (BEL)
7-6(3) 3-6 6-3

This match was certainly an odd one as the dictatorial ART Tournament Director, (yours truly) forced Schiavone to play her second match after an hour of rest. (Okay. maybe less.) The first set was a tight affair in which the Spanish-Canadian pairing managed to pull out the victory--by using a combination of ball bashing from El Tabakh and clever play from the Spaniard. Schiavone certainly had her moments during this match, but she was let down by her partner who was complaining of a sore elbow. This match could have gone either way, yet El Tabakh and Medina Garrigues move on to the next round.

Vesnina crashes out...Interview Drama

You could have won the match in two sets, but you wasted a few break points in the first set?
Well I mean, Victoria played great when I had BPs, not much I could do about that.

How tough was it to come out and play the no.1 seeded player?
Well I mean, every match is tough, we just have to come out and play and try our best to win

It seems like you don't really want to talk about the match so we'll move onto something else?
Ok fine

Why are you not playing doubles this week?
Um because I don't want to....doubles isn't necessary in every tournament. I had been playing doubles and singles every week since the beginning of the season, so I needed a bit of a break.

Have you seen the stuff Vika keeps in her bag, she has like a whole snack bar in there?
Yes I did, she showed it to me one day, nice but I try my best to not to eat much junk food

How come you don't play doubles with Vera anymore? She just won a title in Pattaya last week with Schnyder.
You know, me and Vera decided to take a break for a while and see how things go. I've played quite a few tournaments with Sabine, and some of them there have been really good results. And I congratulated Vera about her tournament win

Is the reason you decided to take a break from Vera because of her tantrums? Remember what happened at the Wimbledon final
No, I already told you we just decided to take a break from each other, that's all

You didn't answer the second part about the Wimbledon Final.
I mean it was disappointing to lose that, but that's in the past now have to look forward.

No, no. We were asking about Vera's attitude during that final.
(getting frustrated) Look, I really have no idea why you want to talk about Wimbledon so badly.

Ok then, there's been recent talk about a sex tape you recorded....

Elena bolts out of the press room, leaving the press to ponder whether there was any truth in this scandal. The press said Elena had almost had a meltdown in this interview, just like Vera did at Wimbledon. However, she is still a far cry from her very good friend, who tops everyone for Emotional Drama.:worship:

Nadia out. Now she's aiming in title in Indian Wells.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Qg6J04XZhR4/SNJ_oMwwIYI/AAAAAAAACkA/kzpHS3-BNp8/s400/sushi_006.jpg

In first match in Acapulco Nadia Petrova, seeds with 5th, lost against one of the most underestimated player in tour - Dominika Cibulkova. Nadia as a favorite didn't disappointed anyone with her form, but also no one was delight about her attitude in this match. It was another match when the both players shown quite good form, without any excellent actions.

You played some good tennis yesterday. Do you think you could win this match?

Nadia is speaking
Who knows? Now it's really unimportant to think what I could do yesterday. It's past.

Did you think before the match you can win this?

Nadia is speaking
I always play to win, but sometimes opponent can play better than me. It's not shame to lose with anyone.

You're one of the top players in doubles, but here we don't see you in draw. What's happened?

Nadia is speaking
Nothing. I just wanna have more time to prepare to big event in USA. You know, I'm really exhausted to play in ITF's, in city strange city. I wanna go to some big events, when I know where I can go after the match.

There was plan that you play doubles here with Dominika, but you withdrew from doubles.

Nadia is speaking
Dominika just said she wanna play with someone else. We spend a lot of time together. We train together every day when we are in the same tournament, so it's easy to understand that sometimes we wanna take break from us.

What's your plan about Indian Wells and Miami?

Nadia is speaking
I wanna win something in this season. I'm really good shape, I eat less, I do more training, I practice new hits, so I wanna win one of them

Any plans about doubles there?

Nadia is speaking
Of course I will play this, but I'm still don't know with whom. Maybe with Anna? Or another player who will be good prepare as I am.

So good luck in USA

Nadia is speaking
Thank you. I hope we will meet again after my title there.

What is wrong with Daniela?

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2006-11/27/xinsrc_27211032711372342073188.jpg

There are some players you think will always be between the best ones in the world. People probably expected from Daniela Hantuchova a great year, but this year isn't going so well. Daniela looks tired, and her results are not what people could have ever predicted.
The beautiful player from Slovakia took part of a G3 tournament in Acapulco, and after had some sort of bye (her opponent Venus Williams just seems to be disappeared), she lost in the second round in three sets to eighth seed Johanna Larsson. Not a bad match from Dani, but bad matches are becoming more and more this year, and we should not be surprised if Hantuchova seriously thinks about retiring. Her ranking isn't bad, but she cannot win two matches in a row, and for a player like her that's not a good thing.
Here's a short declaration after her loss against Larsson:

Daniela Hantuchova
I don't know what to say. Every tournament is even worse than the previous one. I feel so bad, every loss really hurts me, I know I could do more, but I don't know why but this season is really going badly :sobbing:
Excuse me... I was saying... that's so bad! In my last match against Johanna in Acapulco it seemd I could win, I was so close to the win... My friends told me there is no shame to lose to a good player who's having a good shape, but I should win these matches, or my bad period will never stop!
Now I only want to think about Indian Wells and Dubai, and of course to win both!

6-4 6-4

Since the final at the Australian open 3 weeks ago, Victoria Azarenka has managed very little, her appearence here at the quarter finals of Acapulco being the highlight of her struggle in recent weeks. Dominika's straightforward victory here today shows that Vika has still a lot to improve on if she wants that number 1 ranking from Anna Chakvetadze. Although Vika showed today she was hitting the ball cleanly and serving better in previous weeks, she was still not up to the level of Dominika who seems she has fully recovered from the injury she faced 2 weeks ago in Stockholm. A good win for her and she moves on to the semi finals where she will either face sixth seed Alize Cornet or clay court specialist Laura Pous Tio.

Laura Pous Tio (ESP) def. (6) Alize Cornet (FRA)
6-3 5-7 7-5

Alize had the match in her hands today and with a point difference of 300 points, it really should have been Laura's for the taking but Alize showed some brilliant shot making and spirited determination to level at one set all before an epic of a decider meant that Laura would advance to the semi final stage. Laura constructed her nerves better in the latter stages of the match, figthing back from a 5-2 deficit in the final set. Alize will obviously be gutted with the result but she showed she can easily be a top 10 player if she keeps on playing like this. An excellent result from Laura however who will now go on to face Dominika Cibulkova in the semi finals.

Vera fails in the second round

http://images.quickblogcast.com/6/1/2/8/1/228331-218216/ZvonAPRacquet.jpg?a=22

After finally snapping her losing streak by winning a match here in Acapulco, Vera could not replicate the same success in the second round. In a tight 3 set encounter, Vera lost 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to Alize Cornet of France. Both players held serve in the first set, until Vera got the crucial break and went on to serve for the second set. Vera started off the second set really well, racing to a 3-0 lead. However, Vera handed one of the breaks back to Alize when she DF two times in a row. Again Alize broke to win the second set, leading Vera to have a mental breakdown. It was disturbing to see Vera smashing her racket, cursing at herself - but that did not distract her opponent Alize at all, who hung in took advantage of this. The third set was quite a loop sided affair, neither player could hold serve, Vera kept spewing errors in her service games, but kept coming up with terrific winners in the return games. However once again, Vera lost her composure as she chucked the ball into the net after a long 39-shot rally. Then she went on to lose the match 6-4 in the third.

But this is not the end of the tournament for Vera, she is yet to play doubles with Patty Schnyder. Zvonareva and Schnyder came into the tournament, on the back of a tournament win in Doha last week. This should mean they are full of confidence going to the match, however it will be a tough task playing a very good doubles team.

A short extract from Vera's press conference....

Q.You aren't playing doubles with Vesnina...why?
We played a lot with each other last year, and we thought it would be a good idea if we just took a short break and see how things go. I just won a tournament with Patty last week so I'm hoping we can continue that success here.

Q. What exactly were you thinking at the point where you smashed your racket?
I was just incredibly frustrated after hitting two DFs in a row, you know I really felt I could have won the match in two sets.

Q.Looks like emotional Vera appeared out there today....
What are you talking about? Why are you surprised?

Not surprised, just wondering why you felt that way.
Well I thought I really had the match under control, before I went and served two DFs in a row. I don't normally do that and so I was annoyed at myself

Q.So why did you have to smash your racket? No point taking anger out on the racket.
I don't know why I just did...OK you got that? Ask any other pro who has smashed a racket before the same question.

Q. Do you think if you weren't such an emotional person out on court, you would have even better results?
I am really happy about my results last year, getting to 2 grand slam finals was great. I would have liked to win at least one, but I faces Serena and Kim in the finals - who have a lot of experience so it wasn't easy.

Q. Don't you think it's strange though, you played great throughout the 2 weeks, but then when you got to the final - your game just wasn't there. Was it something to do with nerves?
No, not at all. I faced two opponents that were better on me on the day. So that's all there is to it

Q. You also reached the Wimbledon Doubles final with Vesnina...in that match you really seemed to struggle mentally.
Maybe we should be talking about today's match and not ones in the past :tape: My time is up now, I have to let another player do their press conference now

Q. But, but...
Vera walks out of the press room, allowing another player to take her place.

In a tough two set encounter, the talented Canadian, Heidi El Tabakh comes out on top to record one of her best tournament performences so far where she will contest a semi final either between eighth seed Johanna Larsson or Italian Francesca Schiavone. Heidi was in amazing shape today, hitting down 21 winners and making no less than 4 unforced errors. Beatriz has had a great debut tournament and she did not go down without a fight, really taking it to Heidi in the second set like she had nothing to lose, even having a set point in the second set. But it was not enough to deny Heidi a place in the semi finals who took full advantage of Bea's inexperience out on court today. A good win and a well earned semi final opportunity.

Francesca Schiavone (ITA) def. (8) Johanna Larsson (SWE)
6-4 4-6 6-4

In an epic three set match, Francesca Schiavone beat her nerves to take out the in-form Johanna Larsson, breaking her Swedish opponent in the ninth game of the final set. Johanna had a lot of chances to win here today and after the second set it seemed like she would just edge Franny in the latter stages gaining confidence by hitting a series of winners down the line to set up break points. But it was not meant to be as Francesca fought back to hold and then went on to break Johanna to love in the next game, Johanna just looked like she was fatigued and had no fight left in her to see out the match like she would have liked. Still it has been a good 3 weeks from her, not having a result which was less than a quarter final. But Francesca Schiavone is someone to watch out for here, it is clear that the clay is her most comfortable surface and it really suited her game out here today with a spectacular end result. She will now go on to face the hard hitting Canadian Heidi El Tabakh for a place in Thursday's final.

First of all I'm writing from the hotel's computer, but I managed to find some nice blue font - so hopefully you like that. :)

So I'll start off by saying, today I practiced with Kim and we both are preparing for doubles. Hopefully we can have a good tournament and we will try our best to win the first match. Oh, and do you like my t-shirt? I posted a pic.

Ok so I now want to move off the subject of tennis and onto something else. Today I went to this lovely Mexican restaurant and OMG their food was so delicious I never felt like leaving  :p Not just the food, the restaurant was located in such a nice place, surrounded by wonderful scenery - which I got a chance to view after. I will be going back to the restaurant for sure if I get a chance.

So doubles match will be later on, wish us luck....thanks for all your support.

(3) Dinara Safina (RUS) and Kim Clijsters (BEL) def. Victoria Azarenka (BLR) and Alona Bondarenko (UKR)
3-6 6-2 6-3

The team of Dinara Safina and Kim Clijsters produced some GOAT tennis in the second and third sets to beat down their opponents Victoria and Alona in just under 90 minutes of play. After a strong start from the Ukrainian-Belarussian team, they were outclassed and outperformed by hungry competitors who could not put a foot wrong. Kim was looking much better, hitting with no erros and staying consistent throughout and Dinara had the perfect balance of aggression and tactical play. They move on to the semi finals.

Vera destroyed a record 6 racquets which meant she had to borrow one of Patty's and her first forehand with Patty's racquet hit umpire Alison Lang square on in the face. Alison soon fleed the court and we are yet to here more on her condition. Lynn Welch soon replaced her and the match was underway again which saw Heidi and Anabel take further advantage of the Swiss-Russian team, allowing them to seal the double break and win the last set 6-2. Afterwards, Anabel shouted 'disgrace' in the face of Vera which looked like a new rivalry was set to blossom here on the ART tour.

VERA AND PATTY LOSE BAD TEMPERED AFFAIR
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/45783000/jpg/_45783195_sch_getty_416.jpg

Today Patty schynders Acapulco open came to a very bad tempered end. Her and doubles partner Vera Zvonareva saw a 4 match win streak in doubles come to and end, last week they won but this week they lost. Vera smashed through a record 6 rackets and ran out. Afterwards patty gave this interesting interview.

Q: So patty you made it to the quarter finals this week but sadly lost why did this happen?

P: Well firsty I would like to say thank you to vera for playing with me we have had a really good few weeks and I hope we can keep our partneship going. I in no way blame her for loosing today we were a team and it was a good performace sadly the other team were just too strong.

Q: How did you feel about veras temper tantrum?

P: You know what It did not bother me, in fact I think it adds personality to our team heck everyone gets angry in tennis and sometimes it better to just let it out and go for it.

Q: On 6 rackets?

P: She was really angry!

Q: Ok... so this week there has been loads of rumours surronding venus williams dissapearance do you have anything to add to this?

P: Not really I do not really speak to venus I hope she is ok though as It would be sad If anything happened to her, I hope they find her soon.

Well thank you Patty good luck in Indian wells and Miami

P: Thank you :)

In other news Anabel Medina garruges came to her press confrence for two minuites  All she was wearing was her dressing gown. All she said was that she was happy that her and heidi had won and she will see everyone just before her match, she then promptly left and according to the hotel sources returned to her room ordered champagn and strawberries and some whiped cream and then asked to be left alone for the rest of the evening and night. Nobody has seen or heard from her this morning however she promise heidi that she would be there for the semis.

Q. So what went wrong out there, are you disappointed to end your winning streak?
Well I don't know, it was a tough match, me and Patty tried really hard and fought till the last point. And of course it would have been nice to keep this winning streak going, but that's just the way it is, we lost.

Q. You smashed a record 6 rackets out there today!
Guess that means I made history.

Q. You seemed really frustrated at yourself at certain points through that match, why was that?
Well my backhand was letting me down, a few times I made silly errors that I shouldn't have

Q. Throughout the whole match Anabel was glaring at you, she even said in her press conference that you acted 'disgusting'.
Do you know what I really don't care what she thinks, I'm out there to play tennis and that's what I do. I really couldn't care less.

Q. What are you going to do later on tonight?
Just relax, take a break - maybe go sightseeing.

Q. So are you playing Indian Wells next?
Yes

Q.Are you going to play doubles, and if yes with who?
I think I will, but I'll decide nearer the time. Not sure if I will go with Patty again or maybe back with Vesnina  have to decide later.

In a topsy turvy encounter, the number 3 seeds just couldn't find the motivation to come back to 5-5 after being down 5-0 in the third set. Both the first and second sets were won pretty comfortably by each team and it looked as though the Spaniard-Canadian duo would storm their way through but a late comeback meant the match would go on longer. Heidi played brilliantly again and even though Anabel was constantly staring into the stands, looking around for a mysterious 'Pablo', she did her job to to ensure they sailed through to the first doubles final together. Dinara has played a good tournament here this week and seems to be turning out to be more of a doubles specialist than anything else!!

Dominika fell victim today to another one of Laura's fighting performences on the clay courts of Acapulco. The crowd really got behind her again and were literally booing Dominika after every point she won. Dominika was not disheartened as she is used to this in the ART tour but when they started to chuck raw apple cores at her, she started shouting abuse at the crowd in Slovakian. Of course, her favourite umpire, Mariana Alves did nothing to support Dominika and even took points away from her. It was terribly unlucky for Dominika today however, this does not take away from the efforts of Laura Pous Tio- ART's new clay court diva. Friend, Anabel Medina Garrigues was out on court watching and everyone is getting the feeling that she could be the one to watch out for.

Francesca Schiavone (ITA) def. Heidi El Tabakh (CAN)
7-6(0) 7-6(1)

It has been a near faultless tournament for Heidi but today she could not do anything to combat the spirited and passionate Schiavone who really impressed out there today, finally reaching a final on her favourite surface, clay. Both sets were almost identical, with neither players being broken throughout the match. Both players proudced little unforced errors and it was always going to be tough for the loser out there today. Heidi seemed just a little tired when the tiebrakes came and she began to tighten up, knowing full well that it was a good opportunity to reach her first ART singles final but Francesca played without any pressure and really brought out her best tennis at the right times. So, we will crown a brand new ART first time champion tomorrow- will it be the Spaniard Laura Pous Tio or the Italian, Francesca Schiavone?

It's all going wrong: Dominika Cibulkova can't believe she's losing

It wasn't her perfect day in Acapulco. After 3 good wins today she faced to Laura Pous Tio, a new player in Tour. After few hours after the match Dominika agreed to talk with our reporter. And this is what she said.

It has been another good week, not special results (a quarterfinal in single and a semifinal in doubles), but Johanna was coming from two, intense weeks, so she can be satisfied with herself.
In singles competition, the young Swedish player lost to a veteran of the tour, Italian Francesca Schiavone, who Johanna had always appreciated. Even this time, the loss arrived in three sets, thus symbolizing Larsson is a good fighter, and who knows what she could do in the next weeks.

Interviewer
Hi Johanna. Let's speak about this week. A quarterfinal and a semifinal are two good results, but did you expect something better?

Johanna Larsson
I expected something worse! This has been a good week, I was still a bit tired after those long matches in Minsk, but it was already a miracle that I moved to Quarterfinals.

Interviewer
Where you lost to Schiavone...

Johanna Larsson
I lost to a true legend, and after a hard match, so I've a good reason to be happy! But, yes, if I think it was only a break, arrived at the end of the match, to make the difference...

Interviewer
I know people here were thinking that you and your doubles partner Daniela Hantuchova could have won the title here! But, during the match, even if you played really well, it seemed Daniela was a bit confused... do you think you lost because of her bad moment?

Johanna Larsson
If a team loses, it seems they have both not been good enough to win the match. We were playing two players who were joining their first tournament, and we were both tired. It wasn't Daniela who made us loss, but a lot of things... If I had played better and if I had not been tired, we maybe could have won. But Laura and Beatriz are a good team, so no shame. We will probably play together in Indian Wells, and be sure there will be a lot of surprises!

Laura Pous Tio (ESP) and Beatriz Garcia Vidagany (ESP) def. Heidi El Tabakh (CAN) and Anabel Medina Garrigues (ESP)
7-6(5) 6-3

In a highly anticipated match up, Heidi must have felt just a little out of place having three other spanish players on the court with her, including a mexican umpire. This didn't seem to affect her in the first set and with Anabel they played an amazing first set but for them, Laura and Bea just played too good in the tiebrake, Laura showing us why she reached the final in singles also, hitting with an agressive pace and keeping a 92% first serve percentage throughout the match. Bea was the perfect partner, who defended when it was necessary and kept Anabel busy by shouting inaudiable spanish words down the court, which Anabel didn't take too kindly too. After the first set, Anabel and Bea were having words before they sat down, apparently Bea was blaming Pablo for the disappearence of Venus Williams but this is just what Heidi told us after the match. Who Knows? But Laura and Bea played amazingly in the first final together, taking home the doubles trophy and we are sure to look out for them in the near future. Well done.

Francesca Schiavone (ITA) def. Laura Pous Tio (ESP)
6-4 3-6 6-3

In one of the best ART finals in recent weeks, Francesca Schiavone asserted herself as the most comfortable clay court player this week with a hard fought 3 set win over newcomer Laura Pous Tio. The match lasted over 2 hours, where rallies of over 20 shots were happening constantly, nearly every point. Both players gave it their all and it was tough for anybody to lose. Laura showed us why she can be a very good player with her clever tactical play and her sound shot making but today she lacked the fighting spirit which Francesca possessed. Franny moves beautifully on the clay and her shots contain a lot of topspin which made it hard for Laura to dominate in the rally. Schiavone has come quietly through the draw, really struggling in past weeks to win matches back to back but now she has shown that when the match is on clay, it is a whole different story. A good final and Francesca Schiavone is ART's first clay court winner here in the fantastic tournament of Acapulco in sunny Mexico. Well done.

PABLO CHARGED! BUT NOT WITH STEALING VENUS!

In another shocking twist anabels partner has been charged, but not with the abduction of venus Williams, he was selling videos of him and anabel on the internet, although not clarafied rumours are saying Miss Dominika Cibulkova paid pablo with what we still do not know to avenge her by putting the revealing videos online. Either player has yet to make a statment to confirm or deny this, all we know is harsh words have been said between domi and anabel all week but surely this is too extreme who knows. What other twists and turn could happen in ART.

The Italian after winning her final match

Acapulco, MEX It's 30 degree Celsius in the beautiful Acapulco, but the tremendous heat didn't stop the gutsy Italian clay-courter winning her first ART title here, as her various play denied Spanish newcomer Laura Pous Tio in three sets in the final, 6-4 3-6 6-3!!

"WOW! It feels great!! The opening of the season hasn't been so great for me, as hardcourt isn't really my favourite surface, in other words, i suck on that surface... But it really has been a different story this week, winning a title really hasn't been my expectation here, definitely i am a lot more confident now and i hope this can help me in the following tournaments in the USA, because they are big tournaments!!"

However it hasn't been a very peaceful week here as some ART players were having quite a 'fight'...

"I really don't know what to say about them... Actually i find their fights interesting, they have created a lot of topics for our players to chat with each other in the boring locker room! Luckily, Dominika and Anabel didn't face each other this week, but if that happens in the future, i definitely won't attend that match cause i don't want to be involved in the first tennis murder incident!"

BREAKING NEWS: Francesca Schiavone ARRESTED!

In a turnabout in the investigations this week, after which Pablo (who is he? I dunno) was arrested investigators have captured the elusive kidnapper, Francesca Schiavone! It was a stunning end to the week, as it was reported that Schaivone used her winnings to pay Extremists in Doha to arrest Venus Williams before having her smuggled to a Mexican Drug Cartel outside of Acapulco. This week has been marred by accusations of Match fixing--and the prosecution has CONFIRMED that Miss Schiavone has pleaded guilty to both charges in a stunning revelation. There has still been no reports of sightings of Venus Williams as the US Marine Corps hunt her down in Mexico with the aid of Marisol Valles (look her up) who has been called Mexico's bravest and finest as she is a police chief at merely 20 years old. Unfortunately Francesca Schiavone escaped the country after the bail was set, and she is now an international fugitive in the arrest of Venus Williams. The legitimacy of her title in Acapulco is now required to have an asterisk next to it. We all are awaiting the day in which we shall see the living legend, Venus Williams rise again from the ashes.

More news to come....
