Wow. Despite being a fan of big hitting players, I enjoyed this match a lot! It was so unpredictable and there were tons of nice rallies.

Radwanska's net play always impresses me... but not quite as much as her on-court demeanor. She was completely composed throughout the match.

The way she saved the two match points was amazing. :worship:

Good luck to her in the quartefinals :yeah:

Shuai  Good tournament and good match today. She will undoubtedly have more chances.

So how bad is Aga's injury? I'm worried about their chance in doubles with Yung-Jan...

Back to the match, Peng played her usual consistent game, but Aga's got that little extra. Those passings and returns in the last games were real quality. Congrats! :D Peng did great in this AO, too. Was actually thinking about she and Na repeating the double SF of last year.

Very enjoyable match especially because of the very unpredictable nature of it. Really one of the most topsy turvy matches I've ever seen, especially that 3rd set. From the start of the 3rd set, Peng led by a break, then Aga led by a break and 40-0 serving and then Peng was up 5-4 and serving with match points. Then Aga wins it 7-5. Goodness. Both players looked a bit tight at numerous times but both hit some really amazing shots as well.

As a fan of dropshots this was certainly a very satisfying match to view. Aga's dropshot was working pretty well throughout but Peng hit one dropshot off a dropshot at the start of the 3rd set which ranks as one of the most audacious dropshots I've ever seen. The way Peng used spin to manipulate the ball to simply die on hitting the ground was astounding, it was a shot Fabrice Santoro would have been proud of.

I've got to say I like both players, although at times I do feel like I have a sort of love/hate thing going with Aga. Certainly I was not happy with her gamesmanship against Kimiko and there are times when she can be incredibly fustrating to watch.

Radwanska doesn't do herself a lot of favours building fan support with her understated, I mean very understated, demeanor. This was one very tight and dramatic contest. You could see how much it meant to Peng. She fought for everything and really played the whole match with real passion. Aga on the other hand, often looked disinterested or even bored, even when ahead. Even on winning such a tight match in which she equalled her best ever Grand Slam slam result after saving several match points she looked only vaguely happy. Very odd. Obviously Radwanska does care, or she wouldn't have been able to summon the fight to win this hard fought match but in contrast to yesterday's marathon between Kuznetsova and Schiavone, in which both players wore their heart on their sleeves and you could see the desire of both girls, Radwanska somehow prefers to keeps her emotions very much in check. She can get away with this when she wins but when she loses she can very often come across like she didn't care enough, rightly or wrong.

That said the tennis of both girls is very enjoyable to watch and as a pair they match up brilliantly. 4 matches played and all four very close 3 setters. Really as a match up there is very very little between these two and whenever they play it seems to come down to a few points, sometimes just one or two very key points.

So, a very satisfactory match. I do feel quite sorry for Peng, that must have been a tough one to lose but well done to Aga and although she will probably have her work cut out for her in the next round I hope she can give a good account of herself.

Radwanska should get the prize "most constant ill-tempered player ever".

I have never seen a player showing such a bad attitude with horrible mood, walking around very irritated, lamenting after nearly every point won by her opponent. It's very hard to watch her and staying neutral.

Err...no. Do you even understand what ill-tempered means? Radwanska doesn't show a lot of joy out there it is true. She often looks disinterested and frequently she does look a bit annoyed with herself, I will certainly grant you that. However she rarely shows any signs of getting seriously upset or angry either. All annoyance displayed is very lowkey as is her entire demeanor on court. Yes, I can see why such a personality can put people off. A lot of sports fans want to see passion and you don't get much passion from Radwanska, certainly on the surface. But to call her the "most constant ill-tempered player ever" is very wrong. I'm not even sure she has a bad attitude as she clearly does put in a significant effort to win even when it might not appear she is doing so. Her result in this match alone support that.

I am absolutely with you that she doesn't come across and the most likable player out there, but she hardly acts like the orge on court you imply either.

Peng forced Aga to play her game, use angles, took the ball earlier and be aggressive what she - kinda awkwardly - did. And hell it was no choke, at least not from Peng. Aga choked 3-1 40-00 lead while she was waiting for Peng's shot to go out (it was definitely in, good call), but played very well to save those MPs. Her ROS is so much better too. It was worrying though how she refused to go for her shots while leading and let herself lose 10 points in a row more than once. Anyway, I absolutely love the outcome! :yeah:

Too bad you can't understand polish language. While she seems to be miserable and frustrated all the time, she actually says alot of positive things during the match to herself. Well, she curses somtimes, but most the time she's motivating herself.

Plus, she's really mentally stable I would say. She's strong, even though it looks like she's not. She wins mostly with her mental strenght, she doesn't choke (almost never), her attitude was the same even when she was little and trained both in Germany and Poland. I remember her from her early days, she was practically winning matches just by showing up on the court. Nobody understood how a teenager can be so mentally fragile on the outside and at the same time unbelievably strong on the inside. That's how it was back then and that's how it is today.

Pick it up against Clijsters now if you want any chance at winning.

Excuse me, what? Do you actually see Agnieszka Radwanska picking up anything and having a chance to win with Kim Clijsters? Really? This year at Australian Open?

She's got nothing on elite power players like Kim and or Serena. These two are out of her reach at the moment. The only way to win with them is being consistent and play long/deep balls from both sides, mixing it up and having a decent second serve. Neither is Agnieszka's strenght right now. She's struggling with the comeback, even though she's in the quarters of a slam, but we still know that she was lucky with the draw. I mean, she played quite good, but she never faced a good power player. Kim is too consistent and too strong for Agnieszka, at least right now. I believe that someday it will be possible for her to win with players like her, not now though. And I'm a fan.

Radwanska should get the prize "most constant ill-tempered player ever".

I have never seen a player showing such a bad attitude with horrible mood, walking around very irritated, lamenting after nearly every point won by her opponent. It's very hard to watch her and staying neutral.
You haven't seen Klara Zakopalova either then

Gutted for Peng, so close but just couldn't get that one point.
Hope she'll carry on with this form because I've really enjoyed her tennis so far this year.

Thats not luck, thats pure fighting champion spirirt. Theres a reason Schiavone is a better and more succesful player. Lucky is taking a 'injury' timeout when you're being thrashed and having your opponent start cramping and then having the 'injury' disappear.

If you're opponent can't beat you b/c of an injury timeout, your opponent doesn't deserve to win.

Aga deserves her spot and it has nothing to do with luck.

Aww shuai. Good for her actually getting to 4th round here, following two SF's already this season. Hopefully she wins her first WTA title this year
