Petra :inlove: Asleep in the first set, but GOATra appeared for the rest of the match. I love Petra's Chihuahua barks.
Flavia :hug: Mixed it up nicely for a set and a half, but was rooting for Petra because you have to win the dubs with Gise anyway :cheer:, who was watching and rocking some hot sunglasses .

This was a great match to watch. Thought Flavia could win after she had saved those 3 BPs. Her serve wasn't good enough in the crucial stages of the match and Kvitova exploited that.

A shame for Flavia but good match overall.

Ohh Pennetta! Played well in the first set, then Kvitova raised her level whereas Pennetta stayed right where she began at. Overall stupid tactic, credit to the young one who I really don't fancy as a player and her energy is weird.

i am italian and i hate pennetta, when she lose become red face and eith a ugly and ungry face, while all players normally if is losing theres no problem, anyway oppo game of vs peer start good and finish very bad, anyway must admit the kvitova have a fantastic left and she make everything in the game, mistake and not,if she play normally like in the endgame she in always 60 60 vs pennetta

Flavia started out so strong. It would have been virtually impossible for her to maintain that level. And sure enough, by the end she couldn't get a first serve in the court.

Terrific fighting from Petra! You could just tell from the look in her eyes that this match was hers! It just took her awhile to get adjusted. Big babe tennis. :hearts:

Flavia:sad::hug:last year she would have take 63 62 in a match with a such ballbasher...

Kvitova will fail in the next round with Bepa...she is only focused to try the winner, even if she is 2 metres out of the court...the result? 46 W 43 UE...she is a bluff!

Jan 24th, 2011, 01:44 AM

Oh no that's her usual game. I wouldn't call it outright pushing. She just has no ability to take balls early.

Her court positioning is miserable. It's hard to hit winners when you play like that.

It wasn't pretty, but Petra stuck around and found her range. That's one area of improvement that differentiates her from others who have a big game. Right now, her game might be the biggest.

I hope Petra doesn't start slow in her next match though. If she plays Zvonareva, Vera will have had an ideal Czech lefty warmup of sorts from the Safarova and Benesova matches. But Petra can win.

Flavia is one of my favorites, but I'd have been disappointed if she won, because her form going in wasn't so great, and she needs to raise her game another level to truly compete in the latter stages of majors.

Petra isn't very consistent yet, but the scary thing is how easily she makes great plays.

On some of her points she effortlessly makes her opponent look completely helpless.

If she can cut down on her errors I think she has a realistic shot to become #1. It's not like the WTA is being dominated by anyone right now.

Nice match, good to see both players using their brains for once. Pennetta had a great tactics, and it totally worked in the 1st set. In the 2nd you could feel the momentum shifting and Petra wasn't trying to hit winners out of every ball. Later on, everything for Petra worked, but Flavia fought and saved a lot of BPs. She had some chances too, but Petra was hitting the ball so well and won in the end.

Kvitova is really really good, I expect a lot from her. I love how she deals with the easy ball at the net, no rushing and panicking. I don't think I'll become a fan, but I won't dislike her either. Actually, if she beats Vera (my last hope), I'll be rooting for her to go all the way.

Flavia  nice tournament overall, her best AO result. Hopefully she'll keep this form and only improve. GL in the doubles! ;)

I'm loving this AO with all these newer sort of players coming through (especially since I've lost Elena). I really like Petra, hope she continues to do well.

Her bark is really bizarre though. Took me ages to work out where the sound was actually coming from. The fact that she has metal on her teeth also really adds to the idea of her barking. I find it amusing, but I can definitely see why others would find it irritating.
