And  at Martina Nav calling the upset. Vodkapova Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:31 AM Maria is so bad. Vartan Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:31 AM :spit: Caralenko Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:31 AM L.M.F.A.O. TheBoiledEgg Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:31 AM Masha :o nearly got it back but her FH :help: Six Feet Under Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM Expected. Mariatards  Andy :) Moveyourfeet Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM Retire pls. Cakeisgood Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHAH Maria was literally SO SO SO SO SO SO BAD. 30 UEs?? Petko played great up until the tight end, but OMFG. MARIA YOU WERE SO AWFUL HOLY SHIT. SVK Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM Told Ya! :wavey: Libertango Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM Wow. Vaidisova Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM Still no slam QF for Maria. Joelina Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM she can hit the ball but she can´t play tennis :help: Sp!ffy Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM I'm so disgusted..... Why does Maria even give me something to believe in? She played well agaisnt Goerges in the end of the 3R but then she played like this today. She even attempted at a comeback just to fucking make stupid errors again. Fucking fuck fuck. Whatever, now I can focus on Petra I guess. Pops Maellard Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM Maria just finds a way to disappoint every time. I knew she'd lose this match but I didn't think she'd lose with a new career-low performance. fouc Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM wat? :o and i woke up for that instead of Sexa-Sexlana :o illusyve Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM Two solid games from Maria in the entire match down 5-1 in the second. Andy was great :yeah: Lisickinator Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM   Carsten Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM Andrea :woohoo: njtennis17 Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM Sharapova was horrible, but Petkovic played really superbly in control and with such aggression. starin Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:32 AM  Remember the good times Sharafans! http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/Elisser/some%20stuff/flaminghotred2004_17.gif SoClose Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM :o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o Dominic Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM Maria mentally is SUUUUPER weak. VikingTennisFan Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM Go Andrea! :worship::worship::worship: Cakeisgood Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM Usually, it's the serve for Maria, but holy balls, the strokes were just so godawful today. It's been a loooooong time since I've seen her groundstrokes THAT bad. Tennis Fool Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM That was not an epic. Maria-- stick a fork in her. At 5/1, I really thought she was trying to tank :help: Langers Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM Maria is horrific, should seriously consider retirement, got nothing left to achieve. Temperenka Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM So happy for Andrea. She played well and finally got a big win!! :) :sobbing:  Maria   Too many goofy errors. Andrea is very underrated and hopefully people see that now. She has a fantastic personality and a great game. :yeah: TheDream Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM maria started playing amazing in the end. but hit 3 stupid ue's in the last game. petkovic didn't have to hit one winning shot. Slutiana Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM Miss nasty technique into the quarter finals. Hilarious. goldenlox Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM Awful level of tennis at the end. After watching Fran & Sveta, this was almost embarrassing to look at. I really thought petkovic was going to fold, but maria wanted lose even more than Andrea did Apoleb Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM Petchokvic almost choked this match away, if not for Maria's net play :spit: and those stupid moon balls she threw in the point before mp. Instead of that dance, she should get a sports psychologist. She had no business playing tentative and passive tennis. Betten Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM Maria looked totally clueless out there. Andrea tried to choke it away, but she deservedly won this match. Fool Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:33 AM Is this a dream? Please let this be a dream. No? No dream? Well, where's the gun. Absolute hell. Saddest performance I've seen in a long time. I can't believe I actually stayed up to watch this embarrassment. I have to get up in two and a half hours! That fact that she wasn't double bageled is actually astonishing to me, I can't believe it was actually 2-2 in the first set at some point. At 2-2 I remember thinking..."Well this is going to be a good match, the next break is going to be huge because the set is going to be so close." And then she lost SEVEN STRAIGHT GAMES. Thank god I turned off the stream before Andrea could do her stupid fucking dance. Although I shouldn't be mad at her, props to her. I should be mad at Maria and the "match" that she just played. That fact that she actually made the 2nd set more than a breadstick probably isn't even testament to some sort of fight that she had left in her, just that Andrea had a mini-choke. I wonder if this match had been any different if Maria had won in straight sets against Julia, and I wonder how different this match would have been if Andrea had actually played more than a game against Venus? She just looked like she had nothing in her at all. No power what-so-ever until very very late. I love you Maria. Raiden Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:34 AM $he should have been breadsticked but kudos to her that she bounced back a bit and kept on fighting till the end. toxina90 Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:34 AM Yay. Andy :yeah: scoobz Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:34 AM Maria's search for form, confidence and a reliable serve continues. Personally, I feel like it's never coming back. Steff_forever Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:34 AM close to choking it away at 6-2 5-1 mp #1 but finally outplayed the Russian... :worship:  nicidle Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:34 AM ouch. Reminded me a little of Kimberly AO 2010. Just spraying shit everywhere cluelessly. BuTtErFrEnA Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:36 AM semipova? sammy01 Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:36 AM this is why when we tried to tell maria fans that her ball striking against an injured tammy or past it razzano wasn't good just looked good due to her opposition being bad, we said that. petko hits a good solid ball, and right now that is more than enough to beat maria Natash. Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:36 AM Andrea :hearts: Great game and great personality. Her on-court interview. "Don't listen to your parents and you'll end up in Rod Laver Arena." MaruSharapova Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:36 AM Where was Maria in this match? Betten Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:36 AM Nice interview with Andrea - the crowds really dig her :) cellophane Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:37 AM Miss nasty technique into the quarter finals. Hilarious. Why, Maria, why!!?!?!?! :sobbing: DaMatz Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:37 AM So happy for Andrea , finally a german in a GS quarter-final :yeah: She made only 9 unforced erros, Maria had 30  Now have fun in the quarter-final Andy :) hablo Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:37 AM I felt a bit sorry for Sharpie. That was just plain ugly. :o:tape: shrOOf Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:37 AM :hearts: Andrea. SymphonyX Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:37 AM Maria's so bad these days it's hard to believe she was actually one of the best players in the last decade. Cakeisgood Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:37 AM this is why when we tried to tell maria fans that her ball striking against an injured tammy or past it razzano wasn't good just looked good due to her opposition being bad, we said that. petko hits a good solid ball, and right now that is more than enough to beat maria Petkovic was definitely a 50/50 pick to win this, but come on. Maria hasn't played this awfully in a very long time (off the ground, that is). madmax Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:37 AM Don't know what Maria was doing in this match, but she wasn't playing tennis that's for sure...her form is still a mystery to me, fluctuating from very good to absolutely atrocious. Her new coach has tons of work to do, that's for sure. djb84xi Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:37 AM Petkovic definitely earned the win. She played great, competed well and just flat out outsmarted Maria. Plain and simple, Masha made too many mistakes. As much as I love her, I would like to see some sort of major changes, because she cannot have peaked already, as young as she is. It would've been better if she focused more on her game in the offseason, than her engagement, but what happened happened, so honestly, where does she go from here? It's just her 2nd event of the year, but I'm already frustrated with her game. Besides that, Petkovic has a hell of a match on her hands with Li Na coming up, so I hope she's ready, because that will be tough as nails to try and win. Langers Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:37 AM maria started playing amazing in the end. but hit 3 stupid ue's in the last game. petkovic didn't have to hit one winning shot. I see... Emina. Petkovic is lovely! :hearts: pedropt Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:38 AM Oh Maria  eck Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:38 AM Sam Smith interviewing Petko :yeah: Maria :help: Andrea is such a sweetie :hearts: Cakeisgood Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:38 AM I wanted to change the bottom of my sig so bad :sobbing: Rafito. Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:39 AM I'm sorry but Petkovic is a maggot that's all there is to it. Her little dance just kills me. It's the most obnoxious shit ever. Happy Sharapova made the 4R though, gained points from last year so can only take positives from this AO I guess. GoLdEnSeToV Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:39 AM Great score! Haha Sharapova out! That's beautiful! matthias Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:39 AM Andrea played aggressiv and was able to keep her UE extreme low and so Maria had to go for her points and missed it So Andrea forced her into the errors well done Andrea - you deserve to be in QF PolishLunatiq Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:39 AM No comment :tape: I agree... Maria played way better after 5-1, i was scared! Kudos for not choking! Ans that on court interview afterwards was just awesome! Such a great character, Andrea! Next time Maria!! Zojirushi Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:40 AM Petko:eek: She's so lovely in the interview:hearts: Sergius Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:40 AM this is why when we tried to tell maria fans that her ball striking against an injured tammy or past it razzano wasn't good just looked good due to her opposition being bad, we said that. Spot on :yeah: Once I decided to root for Maria and she loses :sobbing: Kitten63 Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:40 AM Well done to to Petkovic. Whatever Maria, just come back stronger next time  Cakeisgood Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:41 AM I feel numb now. ZODIAC Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:41 AM Maria should consider following Sascha from event to event...the blondes are losing in droves, first Vika,Sveta now pova.Three russians gone in a heartbeat. I kinda feel sorry for Sveta she deserves a round of applause for her play today...Schiavone just reminded us that age is just a number. I liked that Petkovic did a Petko dance on pova bwahahaha Mashabator Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:41 AM :bigcry: FML :tears: Daniel Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:41 AM Andrea :hearts: Fool Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:41 AM Fuck that dance. http://www.threadbombing.com/data/media/49/dawson_crying.gif Craig. Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:42 AM We Masha fans forgot about that Arn match a little too quickly, huh? I'm so used to her losing that it doesn't even hurt anymore. It's that bad. PatrickRyan Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:42 AM HELL YEAH!!! :bounce: Shvedbarilescu Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:42 AM Andrea :hearts: Great game and great personality. Her on-court interview. "Don't listen to your parents and you'll end up in Rod Laver Arena." Yes I loved that on court interview. And her other great words of wisdom were "if things aren't going your way start dancing!" Rod the Bama Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:42 AM What a disasterous performance from Maria. :( :help: It was so frustrating to watch, especially when she teased us with that comeback late in the match. I don`t know what she didn`t attack Petkovic`s serve earlier. :( I don`t know what else is there to say other than this really suck ass. Andy. Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:43 AM Words cant describe how dissapointed I am right now. I'm sure Maria is too. From 5/1 to 5/3 she started to play really well. Had she played like that the whole match she would have won. Even though she was down at 5/3 I really thought Maria had a chance. Andrea was getting nervous and Maria had really started to elevate her game. If Maria had broken back again I was pretty confident she could have gotten the set. Masha made so many errors :o And that F!@#king dance :rolleyes::rolleyes: it-girl Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:43 AM Omg what a performance from Petkovic she kept the ball deep throughout the entire match and was painting the lines on Maria. She never really allowed Maria to get any rhythm and Maria was unnerved. Petkovic did not have any ups and downs, she was only full speed ahead and only got nervous in the end closing it out but she still held her ground and even resisted a comeback from Maria. Congrats Andrea Maria  PLP Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:44 AM I am fairly certain Maria was still sleeping until she was 1-5 down in the 2nd. Awful form Maria. Good play from Andrea though. Serenita Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:44 AM http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/7048/tumblrldn3ntvm0q1qc06hk.gif Pops Maellard Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:45 AM Maria, just retire. Everytime she steps on the court these days she's just tarnishing her legacy. She's never going to back to her former level...she's been scrapping it out for almost 2 years post-surgery and all she's managed is one GS quarterfinal. I will hate to see her go but better than that watch her embarrass herself and her legacy on court time and time again. benbest Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:45 AM dancing wins juki Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:45 AM PETKO :hearts::bounce: Lapaco Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:45 AM :help: Cakeisgood Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:45 AM http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/7048/tumblrldn3ntvm0q1qc06hk.gif :sad::sad: shoryuken Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:46 AM http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/7048/tumblrldn3ntvm0q1qc06hk.gif  i love this gif Tuckii Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:46 AM Wooohooo congratulations Petko :worship: Masha is done :p le bon vivant Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:46 AM Petkovic has a lot of nerve for that little dance she does  Tennis Fool Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:46 AM Maria should consider following Sascha from event to event...the blondes are losing in droves, first Vika,Sveta now pova.Three russians gone in a heartbeat. Azarenka isn't Russian. A Magicman Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:46 AM Congrats Andrea. Somewhat expected. Now go on and start delivering, you have a shot at the final now. Supercake Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:46 AM HELL YEAHHHHH! :cheer: :cheer: :woohoo:  mariavikafan Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:46 AM It's true that Maria didn't attack Petkovic's second serves actually it was the same against Julia, but she lacks confidence in her shots anyway she reached 4th round so I guess it's good considering she usually loses in the 2nd or third. gorre Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:46 AM Vuvuzela didn't dissappoint imo. R4 is good result for her :) GL in next tourney :bigwave: doooma6816 Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:46 AM Maria:o no words for that. After those great play in 1rd 2rd 3rd, you gave us this shit?, the best fuc*ing moement to make QF... Why you decided to play pretty well just in the end of match?!...if she had played like that it would have been the same scoreline but for Masha. I just don't know why her shots especially FH landed one meter behind baseline? What did go wrong? Okey Maria and Justine can't make QF anymore...it's ridiculous. I don't want to say 'retire' or sth but get it together girls! It's mental side I think. Maria played well in first three rounds nad in 4th what happened? I don't believe that in one day her form changed dramatically. The same for Justine, but she has an excuse. Positive is that she gained some points. Congrats Andrea, she played great match,9 ues only! GL against Na Li!:) Annie R U OK? I'm so used to her losing that it doesn't even hurt anymore. It's that bad. Same. :sobbing: She should get plastic surgery and change her name. AnDrEi.b Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:47 AM Great job Andrea :woohoo: Maria  sammy01 Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:47 AM We Masha fans forgot about that Arn match a little too quickly, huh? I'm so used to her losing that it doesn't even hurt anymore. It's that bad. her game is no better now than it was at the fall end of last year. only reason she has been getting a few wins early this season is she had a few soft opponents to start here and auckland. had she had 1 of the dangerous floaters like kimiko you could have been looking at a 1st round loss Libertango Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:48 AM I definitely became a fan of Petko today. She has something about her; she aint just a dreary clone. mickymouse Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:48 AM Kind of unbelievable to see a healthy Sharapova playing THIS badly. There were patches of the match where she was playing like a club level player. I wonder if her heart is still in tennis. Cakeisgood Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:49 AM It's not so much the loss that hurts. It's just the absolute shitfest Maria gave after playing really solid against Julia. I mean, meh/mediocre play is one thing. But this shit is ridiculous. Marionated Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:49 AM I'm sorry but Petkovic is a maggot that's all there is to it. Her little dance just kills me. So incredible! Finished the job of her friend Julia. Chance Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:50 AM :eek: where was Sharapova?? You could tell she was nervous right from the get-go by electing to receive. to be honest I didn't want Sharpy to win but it's not fun if she doesn't put up a fight. I really can't comment about Petkovic aside from that she is solid,I'm more shocked at how crap Sharpy was. Guess I was expecting more from her after i saw her playing pretty aggressive in her 3rd round. doooma6816 Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:51 AM Kind of unbelievable to see a healthy Sharapova playing THIS badly. There were patches of the match where she was playing like a club level player. I wonder if her heart is still in tennis. No doubt about that. If her heart hadn't been there she wouldn't have fought so much in the end. She was really nervous from the beginning. Maybe that's the reason her shots were too long. Then when she hadn't nothing to lose, she played better, but it was too late. Still 4th round is better than 1st. Sharapovian Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:53 AM  Nothing worked for her today. A little bit seemed to come together during 5-1 but then she couldn't maintain the momentum. carling Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:53 AM Come on guys. Are you really surprised? Most serious tennis followers (like me) knew Petkovic was going to beat Maria. At the very least, you should have known Andrea had an excellent chance. The corporate world continues to throws money at Maria despite the fact that she clearly ain't what she was. It's been over 3 years since Maria's won a slam and even the lower ranked players believe they can beat her now. Nobody fears Maria Sharapova anymore. Can't blame 'Coach Mike' for this. Now, what? Then when she hadn't nothing to lose, she played better, but it was too late. Still 4th round is better than 1st. I agree. She was worthless today, but if there's one thing that's endured, it's her fight. No matter her shittastic form, she's out there battling. Rafito. Now, what? the way petkovic played against keothavong, no I didn't szee this coming :help: she almost lost to a journeywoman Maria was just plain bad today, in normal form she would've won, just because she lost doesn't mean you can go around saying these things you know :o TheDream Jan 23rd, 2011, 08:57 AM her game is no better now than it was at the fall end of last year. only reason she has been getting a few wins early this season is she had a few soft opponents to start here and auckland. had she had 1 of the dangerous floaters like kimiko you could have been looking at a 1st round loss wow u r very passive aggressive. thats like me saying that kim was lucky to draw cornet in the 3rd round and not kvitova or petkovic. with the way kim played she would've lost. Read her interviews, get an impression of her personality before you post rubbish like this. She would never rub losses in someones faces. In the German post match interview she said that she was lucky cause Maria haven't had a good day. Congraz Petko! You so derserve this! :) The 2nd Law Jan 23rd, 2011, 09:02 AM Andrea, well done. Joshualdo Jan 23rd, 2011, 09:03 AM I agree. She was worthless today, but if there's one thing that's endured, it's her fight. Spiritof42 Jan 23rd, 2011, 10:17 AM Only saw the last few games because I was watching the much more compelling match on Hisense, but Sharapova's performance was quite a letdown. Expected more after her win over Görges. You could see Petkovic was tightening up towards the end (her first serves were looking pretty soft), but it was a bit too late to mount a comeback. Anyway, well done to Andra on reaching her first slam QF. :yeah: Adal Jan 23rd, 2011, 10:17 AM That was awful, except for like 2 games. Her game is just absent for most of the matches these days. Now, what? Let's say that's true...it's still would have been nice of Maria to show up. It literally seemed like she was throwing the match until 1-5 in the 2nd. I am happy for Andrea, truly, but Maria showed flashes of brilliance in the past week and I at least expected her to get the ball back. On the positive side, this is progress, much better than last years first rd exit...I still think Maria will get back into the top 10 by Wimbledon. hurricanejeanne Jan 23rd, 2011, 06:35 PM It's frustrating, but at least Pova didn't lose in the first round. Ryan Jan 23rd, 2011, 06:41 PM Yikes. Can't say I'm not surprised Andrea won, because she's been playing well to start the year. But the scoreline and description definitely surprises me - surprised Maria went down so tamely. Her ground strokes are nothing compared to what they were 2 years ago, and everything in her game has regressed a notch or two. Hope she can turn it around. Beat Li, somehow, Petko. Joe.
