It took 34 main draw appearances before Iveta Benesova finally made the second week of a grand slam. Is that a record? Of her first 33 appearances, she only made the third round three times, and only got to the second round eleven times, which means she lost 1r 19 times! Well done to her for finally breaking such a dismal record! :worship:

I don't know, but I assume the guy at Backspin might have stats on it later today. He likes to bring up the fact that Medina Garrigues has 9 WTA titles, and is one title away from being only the second player with 10 or more titles never to make a slam QF. Right now, this is Benesova's 34th, Medina Garrigues' 35th, and the one with more than 10? Anna Smashnova, who only made it to the 4th round twice-out of 49 slams. What may have beef rough for her fans, is that she made the 4th round twice in her first 12 slams, then 0 for her last 37.

Iveta is extremely talented and she fully deserves all her success.
She just beat two top 20 players.

I'm interested in this as well. I'm sure there are some other players who made good runs near the end of their careers.

This is her 22nd slam.

Razzano is up there too. 42 slams without a QF.

It took Tanasugarn 44 times before she reached a QF, 50 if you count her qualifying attempts as well.

She made quite a few fourth rounds before that, so I don't think that counts.

Oh I thought we were talking about QFs. I always think of this first sunday as the first week which still includes 4th rounds. :o

Els Callens played 34 main draw grand slams and never got passed 3rd round! Emilit Loit didn't make it past the 3rd round in her final 34 grand slams although had a 4th round early on in her career

Kremer is on 32 currently, Craybas has done it once in 44 slams, Gagliardi reached the 4th round on her 33rd attempt, Foretz is on 30 slams with no luck,

Not sure of the point by some of you. Most players never make it to the last 8 of a slam. It's a great achievement.
Good for Iveta.
