3rd time in a row Katya bts Nadia

Kim must be doing cartwheels, her draw is even easier than a MM event.

I thought Nadia would win after the comeback but just as in the Ivanovic match Makarova kept holding serve and ultimately won.

Katya will be just as tough against Kim. if Kim plays like she did today, then Katya will have a massive chance to be in QF :hearts:

Really wanted to watch this match, too bad I only I have ESPN...

But from the handshake that I saw on the highlight Nadia didn't seem happy. I thought they are compatriots and wouldn't be that negative about other compatriots advancing in a grand slam event?

But good to see some new up and coming young players advancing. Nice job for beating two former top 10 players in one week.

nadia has been moving like a hippo and playing pretty average tennis this whole tournament, got this far because she has only faced very weak compatition so far.

makarova did well though

With Petrova Kim knew exactly what she could expect. And the revanch factor would make it extra nice en special. But ok, it's Makarova. No idea what to think about that at the moment. It will be the first meeting between them.
Kim just has to play better than today, that's for sure!

Oh and congrats Makarova :)

But from the handshake that I saw on the highlight Nadia didn't seem happy. I thought they are compatriots and wouldn't be that negative about other compatriots advancing in a grand slam event?

She was disgusted throughout the final set at: her terrible errors, fans talking in the crowd, the line judges, and, during a changeover, something about an icepack.

Pretty average match, but thankfully the better player one.

Good tournament from Makarova, hopefully she isn't too exhausted when she goes on to play Kimmy. Would like to see her put up a good fight. :)

A very entertaining match! a bit tipsy turby but Makarova was a gallent winner.

Only thing i want to maon about and that is at one point in the third set Nadia turned to my section of the crowd and complained about noise. I was a taken back for this for no one in my section was making noise unless it was the camera guys sitting at court side.

Makarova's returning was very good, at one point she was successful in returning a 179km serve.

I felt Makarova was just more patient and mixed her game up more than Nadia did.

Good match from Makarova though she's a real fighter I mean second close-third-set victory over a former top 5 player this week

I haven't seen anything from Makarova at this tournament so far, but it seems she's a pretty tough cookie, beating both Ivanovic and Petrova by 8-6 in the third. She could very well add Clijsters's scalp to her list, especially after the latter's horrible match against Cornet.

Well, I do think Nadia has more focus on her doubles matches in Australia. She seeks her first GS title and there's much more chance on doubles than singles. :smash:

It's strange how she loses to nobody and then something happens and she overpowers Serena and Venus and just runs over Kim.

Very pleased about this result. I like Katya a lot. Very underrated player by most of this forum. Lovely game and she has heart. The match against Clijsters won't be a formality. It sure won't be easy for Katya either but I think she can at least make it competitive and if Clijsters isn't on her game an upset isn't out of the question.

Nadia would have never taken out Kim in her condition. She was slightly injured and Nadia being Nadia, wouldn't have the mentality to beat Kim again (with Kim looking for revenge.)

In this sense, I'm glad Makarova won... she is healthy and has a big game. Plus, now Kim won't be out for revenge and will approach this match as per normal (ie, hopefully hotmess like against Alize).

Ekatarina continues to grow on me. (Yes as a matter of fact, maudlin suck-ups to a retiring Lena D. DO make a difference). But her tennis is getting way better, too.

Also, wtf, Petrova? She's never been a small girl, but she looked really out-of-shape last night, like she's been raiding Vika's stash of Coke and Snickers instead of practicing.

She won Eastbourne, and the last 2 winners Caro & Aga continued on to the top 10.
I expect Makarova to keep moving up. Katya's game is more grass style than Caro or Aga

She is not under rated because she didn't back up Eastbourne with other good results.
Same with Pironkova. Wimbledon SF is great, but do something else.
At least Makarova is giving signs that Eastbourne is a glimpse of her future, not a lucky week
