Somebody out there doesn't want Peng to win, cramping at 5-3 30-0 in the third set.

Tahnkfully she pulled it out. Pretty good match, but Peng really is becoming a pusher. So many important points she was on the defense.

Rematch against Radwanska :) Good shot at a quarter final!

That was a really fun match in the last two sets. Morita has improved a lot, but Shuai was just a little too good today. Good luck in the next round! I think Morita could have a good year too

Great great match! High quality stuff. Morita actually played really really good those last two sets.

Peng just the more experienced one. Got scared when she cramped but thankfully did it. That volley late in the third set she hit  Geez. Pengratilova

Congrats Shu Shu, I thought the match would be one sided looking from the first set. Hope the injury is not serious though.:worship::worship:

Also great to see Morita and living her potential, watching her play since the beginning of the year, I must say she improved a lot, mentally and attitude. Hope this year will be a breakthrough for her :hearts:

Incredible match.
Shushu played a great first set but then Morita played amazing in the second and third, HUGE credit to her. She was SO solid, wasn't missing anything and started to hit AMAZE winners.
But once again, Shushu showed her fighting skills and held on. :worship:
Congratulations Shushu for your first 4R GS, I just hope you won't be too tired against Radwanska. :awww:

Thought Peng pulled a hamstring at first, glad to see it was probably just cramping, and didn't affect the result. Morita played much more aggressively than she did last round and can be proud.

oh my god, this match.... i gave up on peng a couple times this match. but that makes me all the more happy she pulled through. morita was undoubtedly the better player for, imo, all of the last 2 sets excluding the last game. i totally freaked out when peng got injured. i really was scared that it was the end for her. but she pulled through. this game was so back and forth. this win was certainly more exciting (and painful) than if she had won 6-1, 6-1 or something.

am i the only person think that morita possibly, just possibly, let shuai win (after she got injured)? the way she hit those shots to her, like setting her up to hit a winner, and then when shuai made contact, morita really didn't whole-heartedly try to chase the ball down. i really think morita let peng shuai win, and i'm saying this as someone who 100% wanted peng to win before and during the game. tell me i'm wrong

morita was a lot more classy than peng this game too: when she was clearly wronged on the volley (it's obvious which), she let out one complaint and then stopped talking. peng, like during the second set when she was absolutely losing control, started throwing a few hissy fits about a few calls that were clearly right. morita was also the smarter player, guessing right on which way peng would hit the ball over 90% of the time really. that was really really frustrating. and then on the other end, it didn't really matter if peng could guess right, not that she could, because she's so slow. she was a lot lot faster and was a much better counter-puncher when she played against jankovic. she had a leg wrapping for this game so i should've seen that coming. that game jankovic was the one who lost her mental strength and totally just gave up on winning. this game, clearly peng, except peng at least kept her composure somewhat.

ayumi morita reminds me soooooo much of zheng jie. so so much. they're both about 5'4" first off. zheng jie and morita both are slow starters (at least from this one game i've seen of morita), often losing the first set and then winning the next two (or almost in this case). why is this? because they're analyzing their opponent and figuring them out; the first set, it wasn't just that morita had a little stage fright, she also couldn't guess which way peng would hit the ball; peng had a lot of winners in the first set. the second set, peng lost control and started making a lot of unforced errors, while morita made less and also hit more winners than peng: shocking. her serves and ground strokes also seemed to get harder and faster. anyway, jie and morita both have weak serves, so there's another comparison. i think jie hits harder than morita on ground strokes and is a better volleyer, but i really haven't seen enough of morita, or even jie really. they're both counter punchers of sorts, both very fast and can chase down balls and keep them in play. morita is i think faster than 2010 jie, but she's also 20 and from what i know has not had ankle surgery or wrist surgery like poor jie. 2008 jie was skinner and younger and less injured. zheng jie is more emotional on the court, however; i saw a few first pumps from morita, but none of the "come on!s" that jie would be shouting to herself. jie also has a cute grunt, while morita does not grunt at all  and most importantly, jie is very classy, and judging only from this game, morita is too.

okay i'm done. this game had so many ups and downs for me :)

Best few weeks of Peng's career so far! Great wins over JJ and Morita. What I love about Peng is she never gives up and retrieves so many balls so hopefully she can beat Radwanska again. I think it's safe to say it's gonna be a 3 setter... Radwanska leeds 2-1 I think with Peng winning last year. All have been 3 sets.

I hope Peng's injury in the last game was just a cramp... hope she hasn't done a Bartoli!

Yeah I think so... Jie will lose a ton of points and Peng will gain a few hundred even if she loses to Agi :) Peng should return to top 50, maybe top 40.

This match was intense! First of all, I had never seen Morita play and she was way better than I expected! Really solid game but of course couldn't win any of the key break points in the third set.

I love ShuShu but she really needs a diet plan that works. She looked exhausted and I have no idea how she is able to win so many 3 set matches. The cramping at the end was scary. But really gutsy play. She's such a fighter. :worship:
