View Full Version : Goerges: Ana 1.0?

Seeing Goerges play Sharapova, I kind of get flashbacks to our dear Ana. So much game with the forehand and a pretty good, fast serve and she's got a lot of self-drive. She's also starting to come into her own. She's just gotta maybe work out a kink in her forehand and serve (there's a lot of movement in them) and she coud easily be top 20 in today's game. She's got more game IMO than Kvitova or Pironkova. Mentally, she seems to be ready and willing to fight as well.

Who knows...maybe a future Roland Garros champ in the making (though I still contend that the USO is a better slam for her).

And no, it's not a typo. I purposefully said Ana 1.0. Current Ana (2.0) is something...magical, lol.

Goerges moves much better I think and the backhand is more solid. She's really good. Great potential. First time I've seen her play.

Their forehand is both their weapon but they are different Goerges is more like a whip. Ana's is more like clockwork like Grafs.

Down to the backhand being bashed into submission by Masha :hearts:

As for the :help: some Masha fan raised about the fistpump, I wonder if you saw what Maria was doing after every point she won. :shrug:

Yep. And she also says "come on" obnoxiously like Ana did with the fist pumps.

Yes and the whole world didnt start to notice Ana's beauty until she started winning and becoming top 10 player.

I dont know if Julia can reach Ana's success on court. But if she does, she may have similar rise to fame off court too, with her very nice looks.

did Maria jump up and down, clenching her fist and riase it in the air? :confused:

on the side note, Julia has alot of potential. big serve and big forehand. I think she'll get top 10 :drool:

Julia was so close today and really fought hard. Hopefully she'll continue making her way up the rankings this year! :yeah:

Congrats to Masha! :)

it;s somewhat over the top, but the match was really intense after all, so I don't blame her for getting excited :lol:

In 2005 or 2006 Ana beat out Maria & Serena for the sexiest player & that was before she won anything big. It was just a matter of time before the sponsors came. If Ana had not won then she would probably have ended up still having success sort of like Kournikova.

Plus they seemed to be on good terms afterward, a very nice handshake.

Yeah, Julia is miles ahead of all the other mini-mashas. If she keeps playing the way she did tonight, it will be interesting to see how long she wears the line

You'd think a junior grand slam champion would do something on the WTA. Give her time...give her time...

I predit top 10 in 2 years.

She is very talented, and also very sweet. Got the chance to interview her a few years ago in Quebec City and she was adorable.

Her game is really getting together recently, I wouldn't be surprised to see her top 20 this year.

I completely agree, but I think it will take more time for her game to develop. I say top 50 this year, top 10 in 2012. Maybe top 5 2013? Who knows!

If you can win junior slams, you can win anything.

This is the 1st time she ever got passed round 2, and she gave away the break early in the 2nd. Just gave it as a gift.
I can see her doing nothing at majors.
You have to have some consistency or you never will get 2 week 2, & she has yet to get near week 2

You have to have some consistency or you never will get 2 week 2,

Pova with her double digit double faultitis one match and 30 winner performance the next has done OK without a lot of 'consistency'. You could say the same about Serena's errors, Clijsters double bageling in one match and struggling the next....

What it takes to succeed in a major is mental toughness, a big serve and weapons, and Julia seems to have those in spades. I think she'll do fine.

Yeah but when Masha does it it looks believable, she looks like she is pumped up and trying to intimidate the opponent (see Serena). When Ana does it she looks desperate.

For those scoring at home (even if you're alone):

Ivanovic= the next Hantuchova
Goerges= the next Ivanovic

ergo,

Goerges= the next Hantuchova.

/or so I've been told
