Cibulkova had some good winners, but just made too many errors, especially on the important points.

Expected. I knew Cibulkova did not have the belief she could do that again.

As I said in the WWW thread, I think the result of last week hurt Dominika. She expected to go out and repeat that same performance and got increasingly frustrated when it wasn't happening.

Cibulkova was stupid. She didnt need to go for the winner on practically every single shot.

She should know by now that Caroline for the most part is going to manipulate the ball and so it would be beneficial to work the point more and then to hit the winner in a better position.

In this case, what's Caroline to do? She can't help it if her opponent wants to self destruct. She won because Cibulkova was just too poor (I mean, over 40 errors in 18 games?).

Cibulkova.. wtf girl? Did she not realise that Wozniacki was putting ZERO pressure on her, there was no need to bash the ball (out) at every given opportunity. An ounce of patience and she would have won this quite comfortably. Still can't believe how bad Wozniacki's forehand is, its just a nothing shot.

Difference was, in this match, Caroline was able to find depth on her groundstrokes. In Sydney, she was spinning the forehand and the backhand half way up the court, the prime position for Cibulkova to punish her.

People are talking about how Caro is tactical and in the right mindset dealing with Domi's playing style. But shouldn't this be her coach/dad's job studying the match in sydney over and over again and come up with this tactic that Caro used today to subdue Domi's strength and style? Hence the props should be her dad and not her?

And the reason why Domi lost is because her coach didn't suggest her to change playing style to surprise Caro and her dad and not know how to deal with the new style. I mean it's just like game theory right?

Apparently Cibulkova is afraid to play long points and allow Caro to find her rhytm so she goes for the early winner. If DC had been a tad less agressive we would have seen a tad more agressive Caro. As it was strong defense put enough pressure on the pixie for Caro to outsteady her/force errors. There's a reason why she's top 30 and not top 3

Enough about Sharapova. I saw HLs for that match (didn't see the whole sham, thank God), and Caro hit one winner in the first set (not counting an ace). The HLs were 99% Sharapova.

She was lucky that Maria self-destructed just like she's lucky all her opponents self-destruct.

no.... you're wrong.
Caro actually played a very smart match and played some aggressive tennis of her own.

Maybe take a break from hating on Caro for...idk.. a day or two.

Cibulkova was stupid going for winners all the time and logically lost. Just had to be more patient. Caro was typical Caro.
But Caro cheering at full unforced errors of Dominika was :tape: Had it been forced errors would have made sense, after all she needs reasons to cheer up. But it was a bit over the top

Cibulkova doesn't have a serve, so if she didn't ballbash there was no way she was going to win.
Her usual grinding/attack when there is space game wouldn't have worked on the wall. She's not that strong physically.
I must say I was impressed with some of the winners Domi hit. Great power for such a small player. My dad was like "shes like that Iranian girl!".
Sadly I think Wozniacki is going to reach the semis.

Cibulkova needs to get some more spin on her shots if she wants to be that aggressive. With her height she is just going to blast balls out of the stadium going for flat shot like this. The margin for error just gets too little. It is possible to beat this Polish wall with controlled aggression but you need to be able to keep more balls in the court.

Can you provide physics stats? I think she can certainly hit it over the net. She didn't get into the top 20 for nothing.

Caro was very sluggish in Sydney and Domi played her best tennis.

Hit two, three deep shots, get her moving, target her forehand and finish at the net.
Easier said than done but it's quite simple really.

Easy as that..she has NOTHING to hurt you with. It's just mind-boggling that the girls can't figure this out.

Part of switching rackets was to have Caro be a bigger brand in Asia

Wozniacki’s agent, John Tobias, said Wozniacki had long made it clear that she was open to a switch if it made commercial sense when her deal with Babolat ended. She ended up signing a lucrative racket deal with Yonex after extensive off-season testing.
“It was a really strong commercial deal,” Tobias said. “It was also a little bit strategic, because we really want to get her into Asia and expand her brand in Asia, and a Japanese company does that for us.”

WINNING IS ALL THAT MATTERS! D I wouldn't try and go for winners if my opponent is hitting 41 errors in 18 games! Caro won! Domi was brainless and lost, she's the loser here.

Well done Caro, kept a cool head! Really something special, great draw now to the SF I think, great news for tennis fans!

You might wanna go back and look at the very simple question again. We're in 2011 btw. Its January 21st .. You seem to be stuck in some time loop?
Yes, but at Caro's age Sharapova won 3 GS's. Sharapova had a few long term injuries unlike Caro, hopefully Caro won't get the same injuries as Sharapova. As well Sharapova sells the tickets, she's known in Thailand too, has made more tennis fans, unlike Caro whose very much unknown in my environment. How does that come?

WD Caro. Domi had to play super agressive because that's the only way she had a chance. Once in a blue moon - a player blazes winners for a whole match like Kvitova at Wimbledon. But that's once in a blue moon.

I was just watching the nervy end of the Sveta vs Justine match. The errors and points gifted away to each other when it was a high quality before. It was just awful compared to how Caro closed out her match. Yes - Caro got broken back at the end - but that wasn't nerves but Domi having a last fling and going for broke with a couple of winners that came off. Domi was simply not going to be able to repeat it. Caro just broke Domi's serve again and won.

I won't believe that Caro fans enjoy the kind of tennis she showed today.

They do because, like the fans of all the other players, they don't give a shit as long as their favourite player wins.

Ugly match. In my opinion Cibulkova should first win MM to prove that she can play relatively consistent for 5 matches or so.

Caro was boring

Her game is bad, but easy draw will help...
