View Full Version : Janet Jackson current status?

Jan 20th, 2011, 06:09 PM
I was surprised to see her not advancing to the second round of the GOAT cup in this forum (losing to Mary J. Blige)
I remeber a list from VH1 months ago about the greatest singers of all time and she wasn't in it while Beyonce and Justin Timberlake were ranked in the middle of the list :tape:
I know these lists sucks most of the time but why did she become so easy to be forgotten and having so many flops lately?
Her latest music wasn't bad in my opinion especially compared to other pop singers.
I always ranked her with Michael Jackson and Madonna in terms of influence and quality so it is really shocking to me to see her current status

How can people forget someone who made these classics

I don't know; her time was the '80s. She was sooooo huge during her Jimmy Jam period. She was never a "big voice" singer though, somewhat weak actually.

I didn't like her more sexual '90s stuff. My 2 favorites by her, though I like quite a few, are:

You know I always felt she was more of an influence musically and image wise on Britney et al than Madonna was despite what the media said.

But I also think her "legacy" suffered because of the relative (to MJ & Madonna) lack of impact outside of America. She had a very American princess image back in the 90s and that doesn't always translate globally unfortunately.

Also, regarding the polls - I think she only lost out by 1 or 2 votes and not everyone is participating so I wouldn't take those too seriously :)

EDIT: She lost by exactly one vote. 3 people could have changed that!

Janet Jackson adds third Gibson Amphitheatre performance, after first dates sell out
January 24, 2011 | 11:57 am

Janet Janet Jackson is quickly becoming the hottest ticket of the year.

Her “Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour” is now extending its run in Los Angeles to a third date.

After tickets to the April 14 Gibson Amphitheatre sold out in less than 10 minutes, Jackson added an additional performance for April 15 -- which quickly sold out, as well.

Jackson and Live Nation have now added an additional Gibson Amphitheatre performance for Saturday, April 16.

The 35-city tour has also sold out multiple nights in New York, Toronto, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Atlantic City, N.J., as well as single nights in Atlanta and Santa Barbara. Her website sold more than 96% of the presale tickets for the North American tour on the first day of presales.

Additional dates have also been added in Chicago, Toronto, New York, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco.

For this trek, Jackson has called on her fans to vote for the 35 cities (one for each of her 35 No. 1 hits) that would constitute the itinerary, with dates in Singapore, Hong Kong and Manila being the first to be announced.

"These concerts will be different from anything I have ever done. I will be as up close and personal as possible," Jackson said in a statement. "These concerts are not about special effects. This is a love affair between me and those of you who have supported me and my work for all these years. I'll be singing and dancing from my heart. The music will all be songs that you've made number ones for me. Let's go!”
