Oh Iveta :inlove: So many winners. hit so deep. did everything well. So proud. The FH down the line was terrific. All this doubles success is paying off.

Maria: Her game is so unnatural and that "slice" is terrible. She has no business being highly ranked playing like that :o.

Kirilenko was dreadful, especially her footwork - she was either way too defensive and standing too far back, or not prepared for Iveta's shots at all during the rallies.

That said, Iveta played the best match I've ever seen her play and was relentless, would not let up, very impressive. Hope she doesn't flake out :o

 Unnatural. Kirilenko's game is definitely not unnatural. Some of those angled backhand winners and even that point at net where Iveta drilled the ball at her and Kirilenko just punched it back for the volley winner.

Iveta was on fire. That FH winner down the line she hit while serving for the match was gorgeous.

Yeah, not to take anything away from Iveta, but every time Kiri played herself into a point (esp. the first set) she missed easy put aways.

Finally I see why Iveta is ranked so high, before this match I thought she was a club level player who couldnt run with a decent serve. She played pretty good tennis today and has a good chance to get past Anastasia.

Maria was shit.

So hitting one angled backhand and a volley = natural...

Shes a good player, dont get me wrong, just nothing about her game is smooth and looks effortless.

kirilenko does have a really mechanical game. her shots are manufactured not naturally flowing. she is normally a very hard worker though and does her best to make up for her short comings, however she will always be underpowered.

iveta's game lives on a knife edge the difference between her being good and bad is so small, hence her often odd results. however when it does click she looks such a good player as her forehand is so smooth but has enough wrist on it.

Iveta played very well!
When her forehand is on fire, it's very tought to beat her.

As for Kirilenko, she was very gutsy in that 4-1 game but Iveta was just too good today.

She plays like shit top 30. And since when is this about Daniela??

What can I say? Great start of the year by Iveta and as others have said, it is clear all that doubles success she is having with Barbora is rubbing off on her singles play. I've always thought the one ingredient missing from Iveta has been self belief. That and perhaps determination. I think Iveta is only just realising how good she can be and with that comes the incentive to work harder.

I didn't see this match and I deeply regret that but I'm so pleased Iveta is on track. I certainly won't be missing her match against Pavlyuchenkova and I would love for her to get another victory here. :)

I should also say the criticism of Kirilenko in this thread is, I think, unjustified, and I'm not even a fan of her. I have never seen Kirilenko as being a player of enormous natural talent, (yes in terms of natural talent I would say Iveta>>>Little Masha) but Little Masha deserves respect because, especially over the last year, she has gotten the most out of the ability she does have. Despite having looks that could very easily have led to her being distracted from focusing on her tennis career (at times perhaps in the past they have) Maria has worked very hard to get herself into the top 20 and she deserved to be there.

The comments just show how much Kiri improved last year; before 2010, a loss like this wouldn't be a shock. Regarding the comments about her being the worst by far in the top 20... Seriously, have you ever cheked her h2h against them? Guess not. Anyway, luckely for them, she'll be lucky to be top 30 in the next rankings:sad:

Yeah, I'm too lazy to check but I'm quite sure some girls have the same percentage or even worse (like Shahar, Nastya or even Schiavone), so Kiri's H2H is all right

You didn't highlight the context of some of her losses too, cause she was not top-100 or top-50 all the time, she has retired during this matches as well, and she had been injured for almost a year. So your argument is not valid.

 Such subjective parameter. I'm going to start discounting unfavorable h2h for my faves when I perceive them to be injured, too. Never mind my faves' opponents health at any of these given times.

I really didn't want to read this thread. But yeah here I am.

Maria has every business to be ranked inside the top 20, look at her results at the slams last year. She had good wins... I'm not sure why I want to get so worked up over a Sexysova comment. But that's just ridiculous. Even after losing 500 points she is still top 30. You play and you win matches you get points and you deserve to be exactly where it takes you.

I was at the match. It wasn't fun to watch Maria lose and play the way she did.. but Iveta was great, flawless. All credit to her.

It's really quite pathetic that you all get so fussed over "a mediocre player who is overranked". Why do you even care if she's so ordinary? She's top 20 for a reason and there's no way to deny her results in 2010 whichever way you spin it.

Maria was clearly not at her best and Iveta was. Let it be. (Also a Hantuchova fan saying Maria's game was unnatural made me lol).
