Jankovic, when she wasn't making errors, was far too passive. Peng was controlling a lot of the points after being down 2-5 in the first set

was only a matter of time to jj lost, the 1st decent ball striker was going to take her out judging by her form and play and that happened to be peng.

that section is really open now, can see radwanska making the qtr finals now.

oh jj needs to find form before IW or she will be battling ivanovic for lower top 20 places

It seemed like JJ was trying to play aggressive tennis. And once Peng realized this, she started winning. I remember one really nice point from Peng where she got into a baseline rally with JJ and after a bunch of hard hits, she threw in a lob and JJ hit it out. I like her a lot more than the Peng of the past who didn't really have the stamina to go hard for more than a set.

Peng was just more aggressive than Jankovic, directing most of her balls to JJ's useless forehand after being down 2-5. Started pushing when serving for the set, got broken and then played better in the tiebreak. Again, when JJ saved MPs, Peng went back to looping the ball, it was quite comical. Good finish though.

I was thinking that after JJ's 5 or so aces in the 1st set, that she was going to actually ride her serve to a win again :tape:. Not to be. Just insipid, uninspired play from her, was late to all but a handful of balls and was only able to hit her shots down the line most of the time.

Maybe the accumulating bills really are getting to her.

I'm not sure what to say or think about JJ anymore. She's just making things much worse for herself with these bone-headed losses. Peng is no pushover, but JJ should know better. That's how I describe JJ's game today.
After 5-2, she starts to play and hit like she plays it for 1st time.
When she prepare for point, she just needs a one hit to finish, she:
1. Hits a ball in the net
2. Hits to the Peng very slow, so Peng can broke her at the net.
And she looks so unmotivated on court.... Collect your neurons Jelena and start to play like You know.

Well, I like chineese tennis girls, but I can say Peng is my least fave of them
But anyway, congratulations to her/ she played very good.

So happy right now :sobbing:

Could Shuai finally be doing something worthwhile?

I have to admit I wasnt sure what would happen in this match, it seemed too perfect for a Shuai win which usually means a loss :p

I only seen a couple of games here and there of this match but the overall impression I got was that I wouldn't be surprised if Jankovic's retirement announcement wasn't too far off. Looked about as disinterested and spent as she has done for the last half of last year.

Peng is nothing but a pusher these days. Line her up against anybody decent and in-form and she'll be toast.

Sigh just because someone has good defence doesn't make them a pusher. Shuai had 28 winners. Hardly pusher stats.

If being a pusher means not being an erratic headcase like she used to be, then I am all for this new Peng :worship:

Yeah, what a pathetic player Peng is:(. I mean she should play more like Jankovic, who can now hold her head high... going home or something.

I love pushers. I've been stanning for Baby Woz since 2007. But lets call a spade a spade. Good win by Golden Shower Shu Shu Peng, not to discredit her, but shes a pusher.

Jaja looked so disinterested after the 1st set tb. Like she was resigned to losing at that point. Great stuff from Peng to hang in every point. She is so frustrating because you can't put her away. Wait... didn't we used to say that about Jelena?

In this match she was, it was the smartest way to play against an erratic Jankovic, why play with more risk and potentially more errors when Jelena was doing the job all herself.

Shaui is capable of hitting a lot of decent players off the court, and can certainly match them from the baseline.

She more looked frustrated that all Peng's defensive top-spins were landing right on the baseline and decided to try to ballbash her way out of that nightmare. It didn't work and she went back to trying to fight it out but it was too late at that point.

Credit to Peng for playing well and letting Jelena self-destruct.

Not worried for Jeca, she's gonna start winning them all soon enough. ;)

Well, she made it a round further than I was expecting. :hearts: Maybe at the FO she'll make the fourth round.

Didn't Shuai used to be fairly aggressive?

Did anyone expect anything different from Jelena?? Like really. With her losing that REALLY opens up an already pretty open section of the draw. Clijsters must be very happy.

Q. Can you talk more about your next opponent. You lost to her in 2009 in Beijing. What would you expect from her in the second round? Do you think she's going to surprise you?

JELENA JANKOVIC: To be honest, is that the only time she beat me?

Q. I think so.

JELENA JANKOVIC: Yeah, okay.

:devil:I think this was not the right thing to say and it shows JJ was not fully prepared for Peng. JJ's thinking was basically if my record is 6-1 (or whatever it is) then it will be a walk in the park.

Lack of match play showed when things got tough in the first. After that she lost a bit of everything (focus, confidence, timing etc...).Peng played a good match so this loss isn't that bad.
