Monica :D Just knew Pironkova was going to get picked off early in the tournament, hasn't strung together back to back wins anywhere since Wimbledon.

Should be interesting against Schiavone who doesn't look physically at 100% right now

Monica just tangled Pironkova up, she had no answers. Great performance from Monica, she did a lot of running out there and was even fighting an injury in the first set but never gave in.

:) Good luck against Franny.

Schiavone was not looking well today, so perhaps there's a big chance for Monica to go further in the next mach past Schiavone. Go Monica!

Really?Ballbashed? She acted like a pusher most of the time.:help:
Tsveti has such bizzare tactics. That is why she never succeeds against pushers.:help:

I guess she's a bit like Amanmuradova - self-teaching and thus no strategy against defenders.
But you know what is really funny?Niculescu getting the 1st set with 1 winner. :haha:
Or leading 4-0 in the first set, Tsveti had 6 winners, Niculescu 0.

that's the complete stats:
http://tenniskafe.com/images/stories/atp/fun/11111111111.png

Tsvetana's serve was much worse than the stats shows and she never really took advantage of Niculescu's main Achiles heel - she was injured in the wrist and had difficulties with performing a forehand (and serve as well).Niculescu lost her nerves lots of times during the match, but Pironkova give her wings back (as well as backed Pironkova at 4-0 when doing 2 consecutive double faults and 4 more unforced errors - her first UE in the whole match!!).

Good luck against Schiavone - it's pity she knows good how to outpush pushers.

So she has only made it past the 2r ONE time in her entire career at a major, and that just so happened to be a SF at Wimbledon. I really don't understand how people can not call that a fluke? IMO it is in every sense of the word.

It's the 2nd major since then. She might eventually become THE FLUKE, but it's rather soon.

But if it is that important for you - yes, she a fluke! She's a bloody fluky fluke! The flukies fluke of all the flukes!Happy?

Well she still has a 6-10 record after that tournament anyway, so either way you look at it.

Well, if you're happy, I'm happy too.I started to laugh at Tsveti losing ... maybe 2 years ago?Laughter is health. And Tsveti's losses are daily. So why not have some health on a daily basis?:wavey:

She's just 6-10.It's not like ... she's 6-20 or 6-30!That would be really shameful and disastrous!:wavey: :haha:
She still has every chance to turn her destiny around.
And she still hasn't had her 2 lucky tournaments (she only twice a year does well).Who knows - this year might be 2 GS semis? LOL!

Niculescu has the most ridiculous game I have ever seen, but hey it wins her matches so good luck to her I guess.

I wouldn't call it ridiculous because it's too successful for that. I would rather say very special! ;)

I've never seen anyone play like that before. Two hands off both sides, then a bonkers forehand slice out of nowhere, then more flat hitting, then more moonballs, then more forehand slices which look like they shouldn't even clear the net but they do (with interest!). I guess ridiculous was the only word that came to mind. I don't mean it in a derogatory way, it's just, well...ridiculous. But ridiculously effective one could argue ;)

Very nice description actually, and I don't disagree at all. Monica's game is ridiculous. It is so totally off the beaten track of how everyone else plays tennis that ridiculous is very apt word. But it is just these qualities you describe above that I love about her. You never know what she is going to do next. She constantly finds a way to get each and every ball back but not only that but each and every one comes back differently with different paces spins and angles. Monica brings something completely different to the table and for me that's what makes her special.

Thanks for you post. :worship:

Well, as much as I'm rooting for her to back up the semifinal showing at Wimbledon I find it tiring already. Come on Pironkova, please do something!
