Maria will NOT win anything big with that kind of performance in the first set serving 5-4 then 6-5 and wasting 2 SPs. :o

Glad she started hitting a LOT better in the second set and decided to stop trying to be a pusher. :)

Tough match. Very hit and miss from Maria but she was MILES better this round than her first match. Some stunning winners, but some sloppy, pushy errors: around 30 winners, around 40 UEs. Ah well. Only 2 DFs! :bounce:

NB. Anyone else think her scar was really prominent today? Suntan has really brought it out.

Even though Maria played poorly, just seeing her happy to win makes my day :inlove:

Also, Razzano played really great.

Maria! That one was a good test!!! :D I'm happy she got through it in straight sets!

Razzano should never have lost the first set playing incredibly until 3-0* 40-0. From then on it was about whether Maria hit it in or out, with Razzano unable to serve at all. Maria made a meal out of both sets though.

Was super nervous while watching this match. I always thought that Razzano was going to comeback but luckily Masha managed to close it out.

She really needs to stop choking when serving for matches. A better and more experienced opponent would have gotten back into the match in that second set.

a decent play; top30 The serve held up today, the stats are not flattering. Nice defensive game to must have watched vintage Wozniacki.

The performance was quite impressive. I mean she only comitted two double faults. She served really well, she's just comitting to much unforced errors. But Virginie was pushing her to the limits. It was a great test and Maria can only improve for her third round.
By the way, from what I saw, Maria would be able to beat Venus if she keeps doing.

Still not great stuff, but much better than round one. More powerful groundies, more winners, less df's and more intensity. Still a lot of UE's and not closing out games/sets. Still, it's a win, and improvement shown. Keep it onward and upward Masha!

Jan 19th, 2011, 07:02 AM
Maria was just not able to handle the lead in this match.
A lot of errors, but she also hit a decent amount of winners.

Only 2 double faults, looks like she took some pace of her serve, it may have gotten her into trouble sometimes, but that’s a million times better than gifting breaks to your opponent.

Nice fight to serve it out in the end, it’s good she used most of her break points and saved so many she faced :yeah:

The serve was good even though she didn't win many points on her first serve but she was hitting pretty hard, Razzano was just on fire in the very beginning of the match so the stat is misleading.
Maria's movement is really getting better, some stupid mistakes here and there but overall movement is fine.

I noticed the scar to, think it's a sunburn because it's the first time I've seen it.
Well, Maria won in a great way and it seems like she's recovering her mental strengh and her talent to hit winners from all over the court. She's also been serving well. Hoghstetd is apperently helping her. But, still a lot of work to do for be back to the top.
By the way, can anyone tell me, in which cases can she be back in the top 10 ?

Good win for Maria. :clap2: Obviously her performance was far from vintage Maria, but she did a good job of keeping it together and stepping up her play when she needed to win it in straight sets. I liked the improved serving and aggressive play from her, but i like to see Maria do a better job of closing out crucial games.

After watching the match, I can say it actually was a decent performance from her in a while. She was really going for her shots and hit lots of balls down the line here and there. I was so worried when Virginie came out firing and suddenly stormed to 3-0 lead and 0-40 in Maria's second service game. Luckily Maria pulled those off and leveled up to 3-3. Virginie was so speedy and got every ball back with interest and Maria couldn't keep up with the pace. Also, she definitely choked when serving for the set at 5-4 but Virginie hit 2 amazing winners on her set points and then Maria hit 2 UE to finish the deuce at 6-5. Luckily she gave Maria the tie-break.

I have not watched the match but happy to see her winning against good player.
Whoever said why she is so happy because it's only R2 is because she is back from serious injuries that can simply stop her career! that's why
She is in a total different starting point right now and she is fighting to be better and that's not easy. her situation is TOTALLY different from Kim who just back from retirement and injury free.

I still don't think she is ready to beat big names though.

sarcastic comments you guys need to watch for some of them :) what look like compliments and a positive post is actually sarcasm.
2 double faults i was happy about that. she didn't get down on herself when 0-3 0-40 she just faught and showed some good tennis at times. her best match of 2011 so far but you can do so much better Maria :) keep it up Julia will be very dangerous on this surface but Maria should win.
