Disgusting passive play by Sophie.

She really had no reason for losing this match...

5 set points in the first set :o

Happy for Petra but really it was such a bad performance from her.
She was so passive and without energy, just blah.
Really lucky to draw Ferguson, who was even worse.
What's with all those screams?

Sophie is a rubbish player when the chips are down. You would think at 24 years of age, and with 5 previous Open experiences behind her she would be able to hold her nerve, but no. Typical Aussie choker. Total head case.

Happy birthday for Petra tomorrow. Good win for her, but have to say I wasn't very impressed with her hitting. She has nice variety in her game though and not afraid to come in to net, which was good to see.

Overall, one of the worst women's Slam matches I have ever seen :yeah:

Sophie, this was your match. Nerves got the better of you.

Is anyone else other than me surprised by this result? Ferguson is too mentally weak to win at GS level, it's a shame really. Even after the 6-0 set you just knew panic would set in and she'd find a way to lose.

I met Sophie in March at a 25k in Florida and she is such a lovely player on and off the court. She has improved since I last saw her. But overall sad to see her lose

Isn't she the same girl who several years ago as a WC here beat Llagostera Vives in the first round saving some match points? :o

Yes! Then, she took a set off Nadia Petrova in R2!

Sophie is sooo painful to watch, it baffles me that she's had Tony Roche coaching her most of her career.

Yeah she definitely has improved... I saw her qualifying match 12 months ago in Hobart and her BH was as bad as Molik's and her movement was atrocious. I saw her last month at WC playoff and she was definitely more consistent, BH was actually a weapon and definitely moved better. A shame she couldn't win today... I think she'll be like an Adamczak type.... occasionally flirting with the top 100 for a couple of months but planting herself in the 130-150 range...

This. I never understand why she never got improved results under Tony Roche

I knew she would choke on one of these set points :o No surprise.
