at the beginning Venus clearly wanted to rally to get into the match. Rusty as expected. That serve needs work though. Especially the second serve. It's landed so short in the box.

Sara:hug:
She was always going to lose this, but I'm really pleased with the way she played, she went for her shots, had some great winners, and showed what she's capable of at times. Good showing:yeah:
Obviously, she and her coach had a great approach to this match (loved his reaction when Sara broke for 2-2 in the second set), she looked relaxed and all:)

Errani played the way I expected her to play, but it wasn't good enough. She has underrated racquethead abilities capable of some improvisational slices and solid volleys(when given the opportunity to advance to net).

This alone was not really enough though as she was overwhelmed off the ground for the majority of the match.

Venus served timely 1st serves and she needed to because her 2nd serve is waiting to be smacked. Solid returning. Below average hitting particularly from the FH wing.

The inhaler, Me thinks Venus may have asthma or asthma like symptoms. It was chilly out and she had no sleeves on that dress. Cooler temps does wreak havoc on the bronchial system. WIth that being said, I hate when the commentators always trying to alert people to things. Geez pammy leave it alone. Very solid match. Venus got to hit alot of balls to get herself into a groove. Still a wee bit rusty but thats too be expected. Still with all that said, I know it's early but I am liking what I am seeing. And running around the backhand to hit the forehand. Ok Venus I ain't mad atcha...

I didn't see the match but I don't think that Venus could have asked for a better result. For not having played a match since September this is a great showing. Assuming she's 100% healthy and fit she should only get better the more matches she plays.

Venus played well IMO. 2nd serve will get better as tourney progresses but 8 aces, 1DF... also, venus wasnt playing defensive tennis she kept her foot on the throttle the whole match.. i think if she practice hard on her day off like Serena did in 05 & 07 she will be a threat. i think she should play some practice sets just to get match tough.

Only saw it from 3-2 second set, and Venus looked decent out there. Nothing spectacular of course (it's the AO after all), but she was moving quite sharply, especially when you consider how flat-footed she was at the USO, and her serve seemed to accelerate as the match came to a close.

I didn't see many second serves, but the ones that ineffectually rolled in are a bit disconcerting. It's not going to cut it on tis court, especially when sub-par returners like Errani even have time to step in and hit return winners. Her ground game IMO, more than compensated however, hitting a sumptuous running BHDTL in the second:hearts:

Errani hits a fairly heavier ball than most players of her ilk, but her length is always going to be eaten up by even half-decent ball-strikers. When she dropped her length against Venus, it was an open and shut case.

Nice serving overall.

Time to start de-emphasizing the importance of daring outfits focus on your last couple of years results.

This dress will cause more and more annoyance as the tournament progresses.
Totally unncessary to have this distraction.

You mean the insideout FH?

I hope that is something she worked on enough to hold up throughout an entire match.
It was nice to see, she even ran around and a backhand to hit that insideout forehand

I noticed that too. She usually rarely fist-pumps even in the last stages of a GS. It was like I was watching Serena at times.

I think it was more a sign that she was satisfied with her level of performance after an extended layoff; rather than motivational.

I am a little suspect about her fitness level and match readiness.

^^She did look thick in the thighs. Probably hasn't been able to run as much with the injury. Still, I think her fitness is good enough to take her to the title.

Alert whom to what? All the ESPN commentators said was that they had never seen Venus use an inhaler on court before. They weren't accusing her of anything underhanded. Heck, Mary Joe Fernandez admitted she used to do the exact same thing when she played. Pam knew she wasn't going to get an answer from Venus when she asked her about it, but she still had to ask her about it.

The f*cking Venus Williams. :step:

Are you rejoicing !? Venus has a lot of work to do and according to the statistics on the last 6 years Venus has 57.1% chances of getting trashed in the 4 first rounds and 71.2% of not making the 1/4 she's 0-2 (...) in other words Venus isn't going deep on rebound ace but keep rejoicing for her future defeat.

I think her decreased fitness level has more to do with her respiratory problems than her knee. I thought she moved just fine.

Venus looked quite good in the parts of the match I saw. I didnt expect her to have much trouble in this one but she looked even a bit better than expected perhaps. She certainly looked better than Sharpova did in her 1st round and the two are scheduled to meet in the round of 16.
