I asked this question to my Formspring connections a couple weeks ago. Christina was the overwhelming winner. :hearts:

I don't really see Beyonce as an amazing vocalist, she's more of an entertainer really.

And no one can compete with THE voice of this generation.

I don't care how many notes Floptina hits. Her tone is harsh and awful, and all she does is oversing and blow my ear drums.

Beyonce. Though I don't really like either that much as a singer.

Floptina is the better vocalist even though no one likes her. :) She has the better range and more soul in her voice compared to B.
B is the better dancer though and looks HAWTERR

Beyonce has a thin voice and sings way above her capabilities. She's at her best when she sings within herself on pop tracks.

Christina has good range and dexterity, but she screams far too much. She seems to be learning about light and shade though, finally.

I actually think it's closer than many people do. I feel like Beyonce doesn't try too hard, at least, and has a great tone. Christina insists on oversinging by any means necessary and it's not always pleasant to listen to.

This video never fails to crack me up.

ETA: No doubt in my mind Xtina is the better singer technically. She needs to realize that less is more and that oversinging to try to show off is rarely (if, ever) needed. She needs to know that runs don't make a song. She needs to align herself with better songwriters. A big voice makes a difference on even the catchiest pop songs. But , she'll probably keep doing it her own way and find her efforts in the $1.99 bin at Wal-Mart.

Beyonce tries way too hard to act like she's Tina Turner or Diana Ross. Floptina's bellowing is annoying as hell but she has a way better voice than Beyonce ever will.

Floptina has better range and more soul, but Beyonce is technically so much better, and her voice is 358290548309583 times more versatile. Floptina's diction is so awful, you can't even understand what she's saying half the time.

+1. You don't usually see Beyonce ever strains her vocals even trying to reach the high notes despite not having a bigger vocal range.
Christina can sing definitely but most of the time, she would strain her vocals trying to reach certain high notes. She's tone down her oversinging a little recently but still Christina is still Christina.:p
Let's just say Christina has ever lip-synching before while Beyonce hasn't (yet).:p

She sounds good when she holds back a bit as well. There's a couple of high notes too but they don't sound extreme like some of hers. :p

By voice of the generation I hope you're talking about Fantasia, Jazmine Sullivan or Jennifer Hudson.

Christina sounds like she is about to regurgitate food everytime she sings!

I am suprised Christina is winning by such a large margin. I think Beyonce is a fantastic singer and if you do not believe me, hear her sing live. Someone earlier said she "tries too hard" . Have you heard Christina sing? Talk about overcooking it.

Plus, you can tell Beyonce is a trained vocalist because of the incredible amount of control she has when she sing. I would even argue her music is better too...This poll should not be this one-sided at all.

I'm done now :p .

Lol I thought that was a great performance. The first "can you see" was a little off tune but the rest other than the usual stretch was tune perfect I thought.

A better vocalist? Hmm.
Beyonce always sounds polished and picture perfect, but she lacks emotion and passion in her vocals a lot of times.
Christina can oversing and sometimes sounds pitchy, but she always has passion and emotion in her vocals, her voice is signature, unlike Bey.
Its like Beyonce is the White Swan and Christina is the Black Swan. They both lack what the other one has. I much prefer Christina's voice to Bey's, personally. But I think Bey is the better vocalist, she always sounds polished and professional. But she rarely challenges herself vocally.

Christina has lost a lot of flexibility in her voice, compared to the early 2000's. Excessive use of chest voice, and unreliance on transitions between chest and head voice will do that to you. I've noticed a lot of times that Christina presses on her stomach. Whilst it's quite important to feel pressure in your stomach when singing, it should be via breath only, not by physically holding your stomach. That compresses the sound and doesn't produce it.

Beyonce has better technique, but she is a mezzo, so her voice is naturally centered lower, therefore the transition to her higher notes is less taxing. However she uses falsetto so much. Her voice would crack if she attempted high D's in full chest voice.

Beyonce, I don't like the tone of Christina's voice.

Lord Choc Ice
Jan 16th, 2011, 12:35 AM
Just to add on, I've always found the tone of Beyonce's voice too sweet and indulgent (it reminds me of eating a deep-fried Mars bar) to enjoy for long periods of time. And for those who say she never strains...have you heard the chorus of "If I Were A Boy" (even if I like that song)?

I can see how Christina's often more forceful style of singing would be unenjoyable to some as well but that's just preference.
