Good thread.

Always funny/sad seeing players like

#38 Patty Schnyder [AUS04]
#46 Kimiko Date-Krumm [AUS94 / FRA95 / GBR96]
#91 Mirjana Lucic [GBR99]
#111 Jelena Dokic [GBR00]

at the top of former results. While some still see some success, their days of finishing high at slams are probably over. It is especially disheartening for the players I like (Kimiko Date-Krumm and Mirjana Lucic from what I quoted) since their results mean that much more to me as a fan.

Bethanie has never played AO MD before

Dulgheru gets a lot of flack but there are only so many players who have made the third round of the last three majors. :yeah:

Sorry I was looking at the Aus Open results rather than the general result lol :p

Ohhh no worries haha.

At the very least, I hope she makes it into R3 of AO. WTA is desperate for an inkling of consistency, though a lower ranked literal journeywoman like Arn winning from a field that was as 'strong' as Auckland's pretty much defies the concept itself of consistency in the tour... :sobbing:

That's not to say I wasn't supporting her all the way though. I love fairytale runs.

It is also a very misleading statistic considering that Serena has been dominant in Australia for the past decade. Not like other people can be former champions when Serena is taking trophies home left and right. Same goes for Wimbledon.

great thread Papillon.

interesting to note the number of debutants; and the numbers falling in the first two rounds.

it would be cool to see how the australian-specific results compare to the other slams.

Updated with all qualifiers, making all 128.

Quite remarkable that 18 of this year's 128 participants are making their debut Australian Open appearance.
