Groth is the only player through to QF so far and the other R2 matches all still to be played after 2 days of rain. Tomorrow looks like the same forecast with heavy rain. If they do not get to play tomorrow either, that would mean playing 2R and QF on Friday and SF and Final on Saturday right, or would they go over til Sunday? Either way, players at risk of being tired for Melbourne having to bunch up so many matches.

If it got cancelled, the remaining points and prize money would be split equally between then 15 players left in draw?

Players should be awarded points and money of 2nd round except Groth
but that wouldn't happen. but if we play in . We will see probaly slot of tanks

Players would receive their ranking points earned through the last completed round only.

It will be interesting to see who decides to stay. FYI, since molik has a wild card, none of the 15 left in singles have to play qualies.

Tournament director speaks : http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/01/12/3111561.htm?site=hobart&section=news&date=%28none%29

"Players risk a pretty hefty fine if they pull out of WTA tournaments"

"There's no real point running out of here when it's raining in Melbourne."

Are there no indoor facilities in Hobart? I know Edgbaston sometimes use an indoor venue to catch up with a backlogue.

Players would receive their ranking points earned through the last completed round only.

I remember Novotna and Arantxa, both won the points of Eastburne championship in 199...

1. Tournament Cancellation Without Play Occurring
If the singles or doubles event of a Tournament is cancelled due to poor
weather and there has been no play, 1st round prize money will be paid
out to the players.
2. Tournament Cancellation After Play Has Begun
If play has commenced and been terminated before the Tournament is
concluded, players will be paid loserís prize money for the individual
round reached. Additionally, if the 1st round has been completed, all
players/teams will receive their ranking points earned through the last
completed round only, and the Tournament will count as a Tournament
played.
3. Tournament Cancellation Without Completion of Finals
If a Tournament is officially terminated, and the finals have not been
completed, the finalists will each receive finalistís prize money and rank-
ing points. The difference between the winner and finalist prize money
will revert back to the Tournament.

Weather forecast :
"It will ease a little during Thursday... and further rain on Friday, which will tend to ease. Into the weekend it should start to fine up."

The truth is that some players will probably tank during next matchs.

Yeah, but everyone will try to tank.
They should cancel the tournament as it's impossible to expect the players to pull out their best effort in these conditions.

The weather is supposed to be a little bit better today I think. Hopefully there will be a lot of beatdowns so they can get through as many matches as possible before it rains. :o

I don't think it would make a difference if metre high floods were gushing in through every crack available

This, only Marion has a shot at doing great in Melbourne. The rest has no interest in tanking since they'll probably get trashed in the early rounds next week anyway.

She should look at her draw first... No point going early if she gets Bepa or Kim in R4 :tears:

According to Bethanie, they only have one indoor court there...and it's a basketball court...

I agree with you, there is only few players likely to past rounds in Melbourne, some of them have to be at 100% if they waht to reach 2nd round. But 2nd rounds give less points than an international win, but if all thikk the same Hobart would be tougher;

so if you were Zakopalova or Vinci or Mattek or Vesnina what would you do? Tank or not tank?

Adrian.
