Just heard it on the Australian news... the players are lucky it was last week and not this week or they would of been stuck in Brisbane for a long time...

My town Toowoomba has been struck violently as well we have had 10 fatalities and about 80 people still missing :( Yes it is heading to NSW and possibly Victoria within the next week so we may not get an Australian Open at all.

That is crazy . It spins me out that there was a tournament there last week. I was in Brissy last week for it, and yeah, it feels surreal just looking at pictures, vids etc. Just thinking of those affected by the floods ; wishing them the best.

Atleast the Australian Open will probably help to bring more publicity to these disasters.

Oh, yes, I saw a YouTube video of that flash flood. Very scary. Sorry to hear of so many deaths. The way people were standing beside that torrential flood watching the cars go down was quite nervousmaking. I couldn't help thinking some people might have not been able to escape it. So sorry for your town.

Jan 12th, 2011, 09:50 AM
 I saw a dude stuck in his car. On the news

Jan 12th, 2011, 10:05 AM
Yes its very sad for all the people affected, lost lives and I hate to think about all the poor helpless animals and beloved pets who would have been unable to escape the horror. God bless them all.

I've never seen anything like it before, awful stuff. Quite annoyed at the lack of news coverage it had been getting over here in the UK.

Holy shit. :scared: That's scary. Wish the best to all Aussies.

Jan 12th, 2011, 03:17 PM
Craziness. And from what they say, it's only going to get higher as the night wears on.

Thoughts and prayers to all the Australians caught up in this.

Jan 12th, 2011, 03:34 PM
That's scary.

These Australian floods remind me of the floods in Eastern Germany in 2002.

My thoughts are with the victims of this natural catastrophy in Queensland.

Jan 12th, 2011, 08:07 PM
 Horrible .

Jan 12th, 2011, 08:20 PM
There are so many of these disasters one after another, I lose count. Imagine the dangerous things like snakes and crocodiles in the waters where people are walking around  good luck to all those suffering.

Jan 12th, 2011, 08:25 PM
It really puts it into perspective of just how deep the water is when you think it almost covers the fences around the courts. My prayers go out for everyone affected- stay strong Australia!

Jan 12th, 2011, 08:35 PM
:o OH NO

Jan 12th, 2011, 09:15 PM

Didn't in December Australia have a drought?

Erm yes and no.

Australia is a big country, and in general, the southeast (which includes Melbourne and Sydney) and parts of Queensland (includes Brisbane) have been in drought for the last 13 years.

But in 2010, most of the drought-affected areas have received record rainfall since 1996.

The rain that is falling in Queensland has not really stopped since early December. That's why flooding is so severe.

Jan 12th, 2011, 11:52 PM
Melbourne next? :scared:

Melbourne has had a lot of rain but not to the same extent.

Jan 12th, 2011, 11:54 PM
it's only flashflooding in victoria, and its in northen victoria, so it's not goin to affect Melbourne, BUT there would probably be alot of rain during the Australian Open, so .... :o

A year ago, 230,000 people died in the Haiti earthquake.

Yes it was an absolute tragedy.

And we are supposed to be feeling guilty mentioning floods in Queensland?
