There's room for both the bashers and the defenders.
Caro & Vera are going to win plenty of matches this year.

Maybe its jsut the surface; everytime AO comes around most of these ballbashers start doing well. Plexicushion allows the ball to sit in the hitting zone of these ballbasher and with the medium pace of the surface they don't get as rushed into their shots.

if you include cibulkova, kuznetsova and pennetta in a list of ballbashers, something must be very, very wrong.

Here is a fine match of non ballbashing tennis.
Enjoy!

I confirm that Cibulkova is a ballbasher.

Pennetta is not that hardhitting.

Svetlana is more like an all-court player for me

From that list I only consider Li to be a complete ballbasher. Azarenka and Kleybanova have their moments, though they can produce more shots than hitting hard
I dunno in what way Kuznetsova is a ballbasher. She has lots of topspin in her forehand and serve, plus she gets great angles and is able to come to the net and finish the play
If Kim is considered a ballbasher, then Serena and Venus must be considered too. Kim's pace is faster than anybody else right now, but how well can defend when she has to and turn it into attack is what makes her special

Kim is using the pace of her oponnents, she is not a ballbasher, Dokic is a ballbasher

don't be too sophisticated NA-MUG probably wanted to say that this players hit harder than the players they beat today and yesterday (except may be jovanovski, i've never seen her play but i doubt she hits harder than rezai)!:bowdown:to NA MUG

A five year old would've looked like a Ball-basher next to the Wozniacki that showed up against Cibulkova. Seriously, everything she hit pretty much landed half way up the court and begged to be punished, and her moonball attempts were negated by Cibulkova taking the ball on the rise. Cibulkova also showed some pretty good defensive skills and movement in there. In some rallies when she was pushed, she was able to reply with a good backhand slice.

Correction, that's GOOD quality ball bashing. The difference is, when things start to go pear shaped, Serena, and not so much Clijsters, have the ability to change their tactics, play defense, move in. Not just hit the ball harder and harder in mad desperation that something will magically click. Champions know how to win matches where they aren't playing well.
