The earliest they can meet is the quarters (5-8 must play 9-12 in 4R) but thats still pretty bad.

Hopefully the players have gotten their WTH loss out of the way.

Just some shock losses from top players in a stupid MM tournament leading up to the AO and people think they are in poor form and the AO will be a disaster:o. They are just warming up for this major and hence are tanking the MM tournaments(bar Jankovic, she is hopeless:o). There will be no surprise semi-finalists. Kim, Justine, Bepa, Sharapova, Pushniacki, Venus and Stosur will be snatching for the 4 SF spots. But there could possibly be some surprise quarterfinalists which include Bartoli, Wickmayer, Petkovic, Cibulkova, Sveta and Kirilenko.

Things are not that wild. The final 8 in Sydney has Kim, Sveta, those are multiple slam winners. Vika, Li, 2 players you expect to make a Premier QF. Then Alisa is a good young player.
Then Flavia, Domi, BJ who are having a good week. They earned their QF spot.

It is going to be a mess. Clijsters will win easily and Venus will lose 6-4 0-6 7-5 against a random player.

It's true that people complain, but what are people supposed to say? Wozniaki didn't lose because women's tennis has so much depth, she lost because she was unable to impose her game, which a number one should be able to do.

Sure players do care less the week prior to a slam, but they all happen to not care? I don't buy it. The top players are a mess, or just not that good.

onyxrose81
Jan 11th, 2011, 05:27 PM
I'm just tired of the inconsistency. Caro was consistent all the day long and yet couldn't get it done in the majors. I'm not looking for Federer 2005-2007 levels of consistency here but just wanting someone, anyone not named Serena to impose her game on the tour isn't asking for much. Having someone win a final only to lose in the first round of a tournament the following week has been a buzz kill.

harloo
Jan 11th, 2011, 05:27 PM
The AO will be a complete wreck. I just know we're going to see plenty of poor matches on the women's side. The question is will Kim take advantage of all the choking with her C game? lol

n1_and_uh_noone
Jan 11th, 2011, 06:17 PM
If Clijsters wins and Wozniacki fails to reach the semis, Clijsters can apparently become no. 1. Maybe Vera will do well at the same time so the 3 of them can keep passing the ranking around all season.

WTA has been a mess for 3 years now - all these random players, reaching Nr.1 and plummeting into obscurity later. Pushnicki seems to be in the same mold too. Women's tennis needs DOMINANT players, not opportunistic hacks, pushing their way into the top of the game.

All people do here is complain...but I can deal with that at times.

What I find hard to deal with is that people here OVERREACT WAAAAAAAAYYYY TOO MUCH.

Wozniacki loses her first match and suddenly she is a scrub. We're only two tournaments in and that means the Australian Open will be garbage?

If I remember correctly Kim looked great last year before AO and then she bombed out. Last year Serena lost handily to Dementieva... but that didnt' stop her from winning the title and it sure didn't help Dementieva from losing in the second round.

so people just need to RELAX

Kim, Venus and Justine need to get their shit together because this is a major oppurtunity for them to add to their tally.

Just hope for once, I want to see some quarter final and semi final line ups which have potential for really good drama-filled matches.

The WTA it self is a hot mess not just this tournament. The top players are to inconsistant and lose too often so we dont get the match ups and rivalries.

Its not the fact that I dont like up and coming players but I want up and coming players winning these matches and then gradually progressing on to become good players. Im sick of these random players you know are never going to be consistant top 10 to 20 players playing random lights out tennis in 1 tournaments and then doing nothing for the next two to three years before their next random random amazing effort. Its annoying. When the likes of Hingis, Sharapova, the Williams sisters, Vaidisova, Ivanovic, Zvonareva, Wozniacki etc. came thru you knew they were going to be good to great players.

Hmmm....lots of unproven players at the top. Although..Vera DID reach the last two major finals! It's actually the no.1 player that's got the most to prove. 16 months already without so much a F appearance at a major..and just ONE SF! is not good.

Kleybanova, Pavlyuchenkova or Kvitova to reach a Grand Slam Semifinal is not a mess but logic.
It is a hot mess when totally random players without any good results in the last weeks will beat top players or/and reach the quarterfinals.

It is all about the draw.

I hope a young random player makes the quarters or better. Someone like Heather or Bojana. We need new blood at the top of the game for people to start talking about womens' tennis again.

terjw
Jan 13th, 2011, 09:06 PM
I've never looked forward to it more than these last two years. Last year it was what would Justine nd Kim do? This year - it's that again plus will Caro and Vera make it through? Is Ana a real contender now she's out of her slump? And many more questions. The depth is really so much greater nowadays compared to when you could pencil in the top 2 seeds meeting in the final every slam.

That seems to be what the moaners and whiners here want. No depth, dominating scores and the same finalists and semi-finalists every time. Then of course - the tour was relentlessly criticised as boring, predictable and having no depth.

You're highlighting slam winners but only Kim & Justine are playing like contenders, & they are apart.Only Kim and Justine are TOP3 contenders by bookmakers, but odds on Maria, Venus... even Ivanovic and Sveta is also very high, so 6 out of 7 active GS champs is recognized as TOP10 AO-2011 title contenders

According to draft rules Kim, Venus and Fran MUST be in different 1/8 MD parts, and Maria/Justine and Ana/Sveta also can't be in the same 1/8 of MD, so probability that all former GS champions will be grouped in just 3 different 1/8 is less than 1:80... but exactly thats happen today :tape: :help:
