Caro also had a terrible start to the season in 2009 and 2010 but was soon back in full form. But the problem is that her poor from can again cost her a good result at the AO.

Caro might get passed at the AO by Kim or Vera, if they have a huge major. But Caro has until Wimbledon to get her game together. She has most of her points in the last 6 months.

Caro doesn't do very well in Australia. She'll go out to Kvitova or something at AO, and probably get a final in IW/Miami

Honestly, after watching the highlights, her forehand lacks power and angle. The way she's holding the racquet is odd too.

IKR. The girl may not to be to everyones taste but I get the feeling she is the real deal.

But I think she'll probably drop the number 1 position soon though.

Caro

Theres also another way that she should go like past champions (Navratilova, Evert, Graf and to a smaller extent Serena) that is to be dominant in their number 1 position and not lose to lower ranked opponents in opening rounds. For Evert or Graf to lose in an opening round as a number 1 was just unheard of! In fact they regularly routed such opponents with a fair few bagels handed out, let alone losing!

That's what I thought, it's not like she uses to have stellar beginings of the season, so not much of lost there, she can win points almost every week with the exception of Indian Wells :yeah:

For the love of God, one lost match and the negative hype begins already... this is so stupid, it begars human logic. Now I'm waiting for Cibulkova to be called #1 contender for AO after this :haha:

Are you seriously comparing the 80s and 90s with today's tennis? :weirdo:
And no, Graf losing in an opening round as #1 was not unheard of, in 1995 she only lost 2 matches but both times it was her opening match. :spit: At Wimbledon 1994 she also lost as #1 in the 1st round. :tape:

Weren't there predictions of Wozniacki's fall last year?
Maybe this means she'll win a slam.

Not sure about Caro.
But I can think of some other players for whom the fall has begun last year.

That #1 spot proved to have far worse than positive consequences for JJ, Ana, and Safina. Wozniacki may continue the trend. :bounce:

Caro lost her 1st match in Sydney last year.
I'm more concerned about Vera. I think she's more fragile, needs a good start to the year.
I think Caro will use her skillset & be fine. Maybe not win a major this year, but have plenty of good tournaments

Jan 11th, 2011, 09:26 PM
Well I do hope she is not number one come next year....but this dose not mean she is going to have a bad season...but JJ and Safina went to shit after they had the number one spot with out a slam. Well JJ did not really got to shit but she went to much lower level but Safina is shit now. With that said I don't think Woz will have the same problem.

Odds are that Wozniacki will fall, but still be in the top 10. Over the last 6-7 years, people that have played the most matches in a season have been Petrova, Bartoli, Jankovic and Wozniacki. Bartoli is the only the only one who didn't physically break down soon after.

But Schiavone will drop for the same reason. Already hobbled, her 2011 might like be Mauresmo's 2007. Mauresmo played the Fed Cup final in 05, the YEC in 05 and 06, and won 2 slams in 06, while Fran has the slam in 10, YEC in 10, and Fed Cup Finals in 09 and 10. Her body will break down too.

tbh it wouldn't be a bad thing for caro to lose her number 1 ranking. it would look better for women's tennis and would ease pressure off her. also while she has it i'm sure she wants to keep it, but if she loses it she may want to concentrate on other goals

if kim becomes number 1, it will just be a number and there wont be any questioning of it only it being celebrated by the press.

vera getting to number 1 would be terrible though.

As much as Caro's the worst #1 yet, it kind of would be a bad thing for her to lose it at her first major contended as the #1 player. It would just confirm it as an epic failure and look horrible for women's tennis IMO.

Caroline at #1 is still a better option than having there Zvonareva who won only Pattaya last year :help: At least Caro won several titles.

would that look better than the world number 1 going out early/relatively early of a slam again and keeping the number 1 ranking?

so if kim did win the oz open and become number 1, don't you think that would deflect the negative press caro would have when she loses the ranking?

Depends how Caro does in the tournament. If she loses before QF say, then no.

too bad the tour was at it's absolute all time worst last year and allowed this opportunistic hack to collect all those points
