The dismal overall music sales in '10 has got me thinking.

Jan 9th, 2011, 11:06 PM
via torrents, usually

Jan 9th, 2011, 11:10 PM
A mix of two and four, most of my downloading is legal. I only download, no CDs ever anymore.

Jan 9th, 2011, 11:12 PM
Buying on Itunes.

Jan 9th, 2011, 11:12 PM
Torrents for everything, but I'll also buy the music of artists I genuinely support.

Where's the choice for illegal downloading?

Where's the choice for illegal downloading?

#2 I think

Gotcha. I thought it was for the rarely found, legit "free downloads." But if it also means ripping the record companies/artists off, then I do it that way. ;)

I buy Brit's physical and digital music. The rest I download illegally.

I don't think I bought anything in the last 2 years or something. Unless it's a struggling/independent/beginning artist I don't see any reason why a student on a budget like me ( :saint: ) should add his $14 to their multi-million bank accounts.

I have 5000 songs in my itunes and only about 500 I've paid for which was from when I was a kid. I would still but the CD of an artist I liked:)

Basically what he said. I only bought 2 CDs in 2010 and both were fairly new artists. I'm on a very limited budget and I'd always be broke if I had to buy everything I listen to digitally or physically. I'm still willing to purchase CDs of artists very dear to me albeit their stuff is way more expensive than the other artists.

Download illegally, buy off iTunes, buy CDs.

I download illegally because it's convenient and doesn't cost anything. If I like a song a lot, I'll buy it off iTunes. Or if the CD is good, then I'll go and buy it. But the CD or song would have to be exceptional for me to buy it, but I do, do it.

You can't really choose the top option combined with another option 'cause it makes no sense. :p You either get all your music legally or you don't.

Torrents. I usually try to buy the actual cd when my favourite bands put stuff out though.

First and foremost, music is important to me. Very important.

I buy CDs. I buy a lot of CDs actually. I think I have now crossed the 3000 mark. Personally if I really like a piece of music I want something tangible that I can hold so as long as they keep making these funny silver things I'm sure I will keep buying them. Infact even after they stop making them I will probably still seek them out from collector's shops and online.

That said I download a lot as well. It is a good way to continue to discover more music and expand my horizons further. When I find that something I have downloaded is getting listened to a lot then I seek to buy it on CD.

I do consider it important to support my favourite artists, particularly because most of my favourite bands and musicians are far from being household names and they do need all the help they can get. For me one thing I always try to do is when I know that a gig is coming up of someone I want to see, I will withhold buying any of their records at shops in favour of buying it directly from the artists themselves from the merchandise tables. I will also buy T-Shirts and just about anything else they are selling that captures my imagination.

Infact when going to gigs I would always advise fans to stop off at the bands merchandise table. You can often pick up some great stuff. :)

Mainly use youtube, but if I buy something I will use itunes. It's so expensive though. :o

Youtube or Torrents.

Eventually i believe it wont be illegal. Laws are meant to reflect the majority of society's views and even as this poll shows, the majority DL "illegally." The music industry will still earn most of its money from gigs, physical sales, and promotions.

It's not an moral issue for me.
