^ Seriously!
I honestly thought that Errani - with a similar playing style to AMG - could become a new bitch for Anna. Then again, AMG, Petrova, and the others WERE established as Anna's bitches back when she was playing well....
Still though, it's obvious she can still play incredibly (the first like 8 points of the match were :hearts:) but she really needs to focus.

King Halep

Most of the players with no game know that they just have to keep the ball in play and Anna will lose patience eventually. All her recent losses are very similar. Shite opponent with nothing to hurt her and its a straight sets loss. The coach can start ripping his hair out now.

here's hoping her game clicks in the AO! is she really just "pushing" like they say in GM? haven't seen her play this year!

King Halep
Jan 9th, 2011, 07:47 PM
They took what she said and interpret it as pushing. The way she is playing can hardly be described like that, unless aiming for the lines and missing and hitting the ball into the net is considered pushing.

:o at Alicia Molik saying that's winnable for Peers.

Well the fact Anna is playing an Aussie means there's a good chance her match will be on a televised court.

Andrea Petkovic,Ekaterina Makarova,Lucie Šafářová. & Johanna Larsson when they go against her she has 95% chance of winning

wow. this is probably one of the better draws she could have gotten - Govortsova is a great ball-striker, but her movement is literally appalling, and she's up there contesting with Anna herself as biggest psycho-headcase.
Anna really has a shot here.
Although, i felt soooo similarly at the USO last year...

well she couldnt have asked for a nicer 1st round barring an aus wildcard no hope. govortsova is a ball basher, only she is pretty crappy at it, has next to no fight and moves like a whale. if anna can keep her head in at least slight check she for me should win this.

To be honest, I can see Anna losing to Govortsova. She lost to Errani just this week.

errani with chak not in form is a terrible match up, as anna has to be the attacking player which she does badly when not confident.

govortsova will take that balls on and anna can sit comfortabley in the role of counter puncher redirecting pace.

anna right now sucks with 'pushers, ralliers, moonballers' or call them what you will (vera d, bammer, ula rad, pervak, errani ect ect) give her no pace and make her unconfident game be forced into attacking consistently.

sammy01
Jan 14th, 2011, 07:47 PM

chak and her BFF brianti (i find it so odd these 2 are teaming up not just on a one off) are in the MD of the doubles. they play molik and some other aussies (i have forgotten who already).

not a bad draw molik is pretty dodgy now and her partner is an aussies no one.

Here is a bit of a summary when I went to the Open today and Im so happy Anna produced the beautiful tennis we all enjoy watching. I was a bit worried about how she would play because she did not seem to be hitting the ball so well when I saw her at practice. She seemed to be making more errors than the other players I saw practising, although I have never seen her practise so that might be normal for her. I also missed most of the practice because I was watching Arina Rodionova's epic match. I dont really know Govortsova's game, I think I saw her play at the US Open and she was hitting the ball better there than she was today. She made quite a lot of errors and was usually losing on the rare times there was a long rally. Anna looked like she was getting the ball where she wanted it. I was really happy that she kept hitting it deep into the corners and making Olga run. When she went for the lines she was getting it quite accurate. Her serve seemed to be okay, I dont remember any double faults. So she seems to be hitting the ball better now, I would guess she needs to play at least as well to beat Kvitova, who is in better form than a lot of seeds. She left really quick after the match and walked off with the guard while a couple of people chased after her. I didnt see Cristian, although I saw him at practice, he was walking around without a shirt and is carrying some excess baggage, I thought he just came from Argentina but he looks so pale. Her hair looks sooo good. Its quite long and bounces around when she runs.

While trying to get over the excitement of Anna's match, I went to Kirilenko v Oprandi. I thought Kirilenko would outpush her pretty easy and it was going to be a rather dull match. She uses her speed and goes into the net often to finish points faster. After a fairly easy first set, Oprandi started to win more rallies and Kirilenko got a bit frustrated. They were having an even contest until Kirilenko got a break and was going to serve for the set. I thought that was it and left, later saw that it went to an epic third set. Kirilenko will likely get exhaustion like last year if she plays a few matches like that. She got people yelling out about her looks every few minutes. This being the Australian Open though, Oprandi had very vocal support. The local fans split up and support whichever player is from their ethnic background so the Italian players get good support here.

Next was my second best match. Del Potro played a small Israeli about half his size on one of the main courts. There was a large amount of Jewish fans because they had Peer playing in the following match. The atmosphere in these big outdoor courts is like a mini colosseum and I think its a much more enjoyable place to watch than the two main indoor stadium courts. After watching this, Del Potro is now my second favourite male player after Roger. He reminds me of Safin in being able to play all kinds of shots with immense power as well as touch. He is huge, but moves well and has great anticipation, he got to almost every drop shot. He is coming back from a long injury, but after an epic first set tiebreak, he started hitting the ball really well and was hammering winners all over, not to mention his massive serve. Very entertaining to watch and if he stays healthy I think he has a great chance in this Open. He is hardly being mentioned right now so he could easily cause an upset.

When that finished, the only match that interested me was right out the back between Kookie and Oudin. Two little blonde pushers having long rallies. I came in at the end of the second set, Oudin was trying to pump herself up with the mainly American support and she fought back to level it. Kookie played the third set more confidently while Oudin had too many errors. She may have had the louder support, but Kookie had the big names. Jarmila Groth wandered in just after I got there and she stood in one corner to watch with some Czechs, she looks very good in person. Soon after, Vaidisova and an even taller Czech girl, probably a player, came to watch after Radek's match ended. There was quite a lot of standing room, but for some reason Nicole stood right next to me, so close that she bumped into me. I tried not to notice her, but she is about 5'11 and also looks great in person.

The last match I saw was My Dress Pavlyuchenkova v Flipkens. By then it was very cold and Nastya had to put on a long sleeve shirt. Flipkens tried to keep the rallies going, but Nastya was hitting pretty well and trying to finish off points with her big shots. Too bad my battery had long run out by then, but she was the only one I saw who took pictures and signed for everyone, but she is well known for that and she was all smiles as well.

Kvitova wins Brisbane Tournament recently and so she is in good shape, so it's unfortunately a predictable loss; too bad Anna can convert only 1 bp of 6.

Anna is on Dubai and Doha entry list, I think that she can play well and start to gain results of the hard offseason work.
