Pretty bad for here. Its the first week of January and we have already reached our "average" amount for the entire winter with some more in the forecast for tomorrow and tons more on Tuesday I hear.

You are probably hearing about the plowing situation from the blizzard we had which was ridiculous. I was stuck at my parents' house for 3 days and had to miss work. Completely snowbound. Mayor Bloomberg is getting ripped a new one for his handling of it.

All I know is parking is a bitch right now where I live because of all of the ridiculous snow piles clogging the streets.

Fresh snow storm bears down on New York
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_world/view/1103394/1/.html
NEW YORK - New Yorkers, still reeling from one of the biggest snow storms in the Big Apple's history, faced a fresh dump of the white stuff Friday as officials vowed to be better prepared this time.

The city was paralyzed for two days during a massive post-Christmas blizzard. But only half a foot (15 centimetres) of snow was expected to fall over the New York region through Saturday, compared to nearly two feet (61 centimetres) of snow December 26-28.

Trash that piled up on the snow-clogged sidewalks last week is only just beginning to be removed in southern Manhattan and some poorer neighborhoods of the Brooklyn, Queens and Bronx boroughs.

Several local officials have been fired and an investigation is underway over the mishandling of the response to the last snow storm.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who took an unusual amount of flack over the city's response and recognized the city's services were lacking, has seized the mettle to show he is on top of things this time.

On Thursday, he announced a series of new measures, after complaining that he had not been kept well informed of the evolving situation in December.

Ambulances, which were often delayed for hours last month during the storm, will now be equipped with snow chains, while inspectors armed with video cameras will travel across New York's five boroughs in order to follow the situation in real time.

GPS tracking devices will be installed aboard snow plows.

The MTA transport authority has set up two bus and subway emergency control centers.

At the city's three main airports -- JFK, LaGuardia and Newark which were shut down at the height of the December storm -- travelers were already experiencing delays but no flights were canceled.

 Everything is fine, we handle snow well up here. This isn't DC or some city that shuts down when they get an inch, like in the south.

61 centimetres:eek:that's really huge:eek:
The biggest snowfall for me is once the deposit reached 50cm,that was a tragedy, the transportation is basically paralysed.

In 12 years of public education in New York City, I got two snow days.
Both of them, were pretty much out of precaution (one didn't even have snow in the end).

Anything less than 15-16 inches, the city will do fine.

The problem with the recent blizzard was that it snowed for like 20 hours, high winds and snow drifts, and happened on Christmas weekend. Paired with cuts in city funding, it was a bad scenario. I've never been trapped in my house for more than a day like that

We do? Why is it that after the first sign of a snow flake everyone's packing their bags and putting on their coats to go home (at noon)? What really has me :haha: are friends and family in other areas who call/text/e-mail because they're watching CNN/Today/GMA and they're worried about NYC. Oh please, Americans in Buffalo, Detroit, Minneapolis, Chicago and so on go through this shit everyday and they'd kill for the MILD winters of NYC. :D

Because it's infrequent, people in New York use it as an excuse to not have to go to class or work .

Actually my drive to work yesterday was really scary, the roads were really bad just west of NYC, I just dont think it stuck in NYC area. Connecticut and just north of the city got over a foot. My friend was driving down from Boston for the weekend and the roads were all closed so he turned around.

Also it just started snowing again here in Hoboken.

I actually went to New York on the Sunday the big one hit, took 14 hours to get there from upstate new york, it was literally a whiteout and did not move in traffic for 3 hours. Cars could not even move, they were spinning out. What was more ridiculous is how slow the plows were to respond. It took them almost a week to plow in Queens.

This is the worst winter snow wise I have ever lived through here, easily. And its still January. There are snow piles everywhere, parking is a nightmare, its getting to the point we have no where left to put it. 8-12 more inches tomorrow night for us should put us at about 55 inches on the winter. Thats unheard of.
