LONDON: French people have topped the charts for being the most pessimistic people looking ahead to 2011, reveals a new poll. In contrast, people in developing economies tend to view the coming year more positively.

A BVA-Gallup poll of 53 countries has found the French the world champions of scepticism, with 61 per cent of respondents saying 2011 will be 'a year of economic difficulty.'

Britons were not far behind at 52 per cent, Spaniards 48 per cent and Italians 41 per cent, reports the Daily Mail.

The poll found that 67 per cent of French respondents believed unemployment would rise over the next 12 months.

Employment was a major concern in the UK too, with 74 per cent of Britons believing unemployment would increase.

Pakistan came a close second at 72 per cent.

Meanwhile, in Brazil, India and China, 49 per cent of respondents said they believed 2011 would be economically prosperous, with only 14 per cent predicting hardship.

Vietnam topped the optimism rating with 70 per cent Vietnamese expressing confidence in the economic outlook for 2011.

The poll was conducted from October 11 to December 13, 2010, in 53 countries. More than 63,000 people were interviewed by telephone, face-to-face or online.

I read it today in newspaper.
Serbia is on no.4 of pessimistic, Bosnia is in top-10.
Most optimistic european countries are Belgium, Austria and Germany ( which I didn't expect), but I expected China on no.2 optimistic, but Nigeria as no.1....

German Angst has perished.

My country has hardly felt any impact of the crisis and now experiences an economical uprise, so the future looks kinda bright.

Good job by government, economy and even trade unions. :yeah:

Not to be a bitch, but I think you're missing the point of this type of research.

There is nothing wrong with being a bitch.:p Its even cool if you do not cross the line. Yeah, and I get your point. I did not read the whole thing, I just skimmed it. Though my statement is ultimately right, maybe only not in the specific case.

There's nothing wrong with being a bitch when it's necessary. Here, it wasn't, so I tried to stay away from copping an attitude. I'm growing as a person, you see.

Half of your statement was correct. Research of this nature does have some value though... perhaps not this particular study, mind you.

Germany is very optimistic toward 2011
we the lowest unemployment rate since ages
the german economy is rising, so why should we depressed?

and for French people, with Sarkozy as president i would be depressed too (Merkel isn´t much better, but at least our economy is doing well)
