So I'm in Europe right now, Prague to be exact. Was sooooo cold this morning/arvo, got to -6 I believe. :help:

All I have to say is that Munich. :worship: :rocker:

What a magnificent city. I've never seen anything like it. First trip to the snow, making it even more amazing, and right from my first glimpse I was in awe. Everything is so beautiful, I love all the modern buildings as well as all the historic ones. And the people were so friendly. :wavey:

Love it!

Munich is amazing, I remember coming out of the underground to see Marienplatz for the first time, it took my breath away. Great transport system too.

I love Prague. :inlove:

Your thoughts on Munich are quite interesting because everyone tells me it's such a beautiful city but it seems very under-rated in terms of the city-break market in the UK.

It's because of negative and outdated perceptions of Germany here. Off-peak time it's so cheap to get there, and somewhere like Munich is absolutely made for a quick City break, with loads of stuff to see, and a hassle free transport system. It had an atmosphere I've seldom experienced in Britain, safe, exciting, beautiful. What British City's compare? Don't like London, feels dangerous with a crappy, dirty transport system, maybe York? Edinburgh?

I really enjoyed learning a few words in German for the trip, and left hugely impressed with the country. Salzburg isnt far across the border either, and its wonderful.

I love Munich as well, but it is the most expensive German city for a reason...

You should check out Heidelberg and Berlin in Germany for mainstream, Monschau and Tübingen for non-mainstream but awesomeness. :) Haven't been to the Czech Republic and Poland yet, it must be awesome!
However, you picked the worst time of the year to come here. It's been fucking cold...

I'm glad you liked Munich, I also think it's great! Well, actually the whole Bavaria is surprisingly beautiful.

On the other hand, I've been to Prague twice and I never got the fuss about that city. It's really nice, no doubt, but I felt something while I was in Munuch, it had an atmosphere. The second time I went to Prague was to reexamine my thoughts about it, but they haven't changed much, I still prefer some other cities in the Central Europe.

I completely agree with this! :)

Today we had a breif stop at Bratislava, and I loved it!! :yeah: Real pity we didn't stay longer, was beautiful. :) I've come to realise that you get a pretty good indication of whether you'll like a place real early, and driving through Bratislava I knew I was going to like it straight away.

In Budapest now, early thoughts, good.

Yeah, I was thinking of Bratislava as well... It is similar to Prague (especially architecture), but there was something very intimate about it, I felt so nice there... I love how casual they are there, many cafes & shops were opening around 11 or so... And we were waiting like more than 20 minutes for a coffee in cafe bar with 5 people  Maybe it's just a coincidence :p

Have a nice time!

To the person who picked Prague over London... whaaaat?! London is absolutely amazing, lived there for 4 months and had the absolute best time of my life. Don't think any city will be able to beat it to be honest!

Prague is boring. Everything is in the same style. It does look lovely but it looks way too much like a place made for tourists. Charles' bridge in the mist made me a strong impression but I wasn't charmed by the rest. It doesn't have the soul of Budapest for example.
Come and visit Krakow by the way :)

Nice to read that from someone from abroad, cos we Germans tend to think our country is shit while not looking over our borders and not realizing that we are so lucky as to live in one of the greatest countries in the world.

We are bitching around when trains are 20 minutes late in heavy winter conditions, when we have to wait for half an hour at the doctor and don't realize that only some hundreds of kilometers away, our European neighbours neither have a working transportation system nor an appropriate medical care and I am not talking about Eastern Europe.
