Hello and Welcome to ART Melbourne, the next leg of the Amazing Race Tour.

With a highly competitive field of over 50 players, ART Melbourne should prove to be the most exciting race in season 1. In this new and exhilirating city, many players will be looking to continue their good run from last week in Auckland and Sydney and try and capture their first grand slam title here. This tournament will contribute significantly to those all important 'race' ranking points and might contribute to the four places up for grabs after season 1 to qualify straight to Istanbul at the end of the year where 16 players will take part in a special tournament.

The tournament is scheduled to begin Wednesdau 29th December due to the christmas break and the tournament will last until either Sunday or Monday. You have until Wednesday 11:00AM GMT to send in your points and commit your partnerships for doubles. Alos check how many points your each one of your players has as a lot of bonuses have been given out this week.

Good Luck Everyone!!!!

Dominika Cibulkova is ready to win AO

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_lgrG2xMG3Gs/SNV_fzN_UFI/AAAAAAAADik/th0rkpDVe4o/s1600/dominika_cibulkova_sexy_smile.jpg
Dominika in her free time

Melbourne, Australia - Dominika Cibulkova was considered as main favourite to win in Auckland. And she proved she in one of the best player in tennis right now. With Anne Chakvetadze she won title in doubles without losing any set through the whole championship. Just few hours later she won her maiden title in single defeated in final Marie Pelletier. After match she didn't say nothing, she just passed the journalists and went to hotel to celebrate her success. But now, it's past. Now she is in Melbourne when in this week will start first slam of the year.

At the beginning she decided to not answer to the questions, which she received from organizers of AO.

Originally said by Dominika Cibulkova
Well, I know that this won't bring anything good, but as I wrote in twitter, I refused to do a uncensored interview. I remember that last time when I did that, my statement was manipulated. It was before this stupid exhibition in Perth, where interview with me via mail was manipulated. I can't risk one more time. I have to respect myself.

But of course she didn't refused to answer on this questions. So, what more we can find out from her?

Originally said by Dominika Cibulkova
Well, I know there is a lot of good players in tour, but I am better than most of them, especially from this stupid blonde. Well, she was able to win in Sydney, but it was by accident. Other girls from Sydney let her won this. And we can't forget she lost with me in Perth.

Originally said by Dominika Cibulkova
I know there are a lot players who don't like me. But I really don't care about them. One of them is Maria from Siberia and the second is that little bitch from England. Of course they are jealous. I'm better player, I look better and even I have better PR than them.

At the end she said something about her plans:

Originally said by Dominika Cibulkova
A lot of people announced me as the main favorite to title. It's really nice, but the single title is not my main goal in Aussie Open. I wanna focus on doubles, in which I play with my good friend Anna. We want to win it.

Everything in this article was censored by Dominika Cibulkova

Anna changed her plans. Nadia will try to play her best

http://tennisinfoblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/anna-chakvetadze-robbed.jpg

Melbourne, Australia - For few days Anna and Nadia are in Melbourne, where they have some training together. They, of course, practice just before Australian Open, which start on Wednesday. After good week in Auckland and Sydney they are full of hope and both of them fell that would be good tournament from her.

Originally said by Nadia Petrova
Yes, I feel really good here in Australia, and I know that I'm able to do some good job in Melbourne. I think that semifinal is in my reach

Less confident is Anna.

Originally said by Anna Chakvetadze
Here, in Melbourne, we have a lot of great players. I'm not sure if I will be able to repeat quarter final from Auckland. The expectations are big, but after Hong Kong I have to be careful about everything what I say.

Both of them praise her new coach, Beesley.

Originally said by Anna Chakvetadze
He was great about giving me technical support, and what is more important for me, I could get enough mental support from him. Well, we were arguing sometimes and had quiet a few misunderstandings, but I'm happy that I can work with someone as he.

Originally said by Nadia Petrova
With my previous coach, I was under too much stress and couldn't relax. During the important moments my old coach wasn't with me and I found it impossible to explain what I needed because were always fighting. I'm really glad that I can easily cooperate with Beesley

http://www.delmarscene.com/data/squares/1213216245.jpg

Anna and Nadia told our new correspondent something about her goals for first slam of the year:

Originally said by Nadia Petrova
As I said last time, all want for my career is to have fun. It will be great if I play in semifinal, but it won't be disaster if I lost in first match. I also have a great doubles partner, who is Sam Stosur, so I hope that I won't disappoint my fans again, and together with Sam we make some noise.

Originally said by Anna Chakvetadze
On this tournament I wanna focus on doubles. One more time I play with Dominika, and we wanna take the title. We are favorites to win here, and we are strong enough to win with any other double.

Who is our new correspondent, you will find out next time.

What are you most looking forward to about Melbourne? Hmm, I don't know really its really exciting in Melbourne and I'm hoping to get a win here.

You didn't have the best start to your season last week in Sydney, are you hoping to do better this week for yourself and for the Australian fans? I hope this week I will do better than last week, I really disappointed the Aussie fans last week and I'm hoping not to do it again this week.

Who do you expect to be the world's number 1 after this tournament? I don't really know everyone is training hard on the tour for the Aussie Open and the season has just really started so it will be tight.

Is there anyone who you dislike on the ART tour? No, not really, I don't dislike anyone, and I hope they don't dislike me.

Who are you teaming up with in the doubles this week? Why? And is this important to you? This week I teamed up with Nadia Petrova, my good friend, I think we will do well in this competition, last week was also good with me and Ana getting to semifinals, but I have just chosen Nadia.

Any last words? Nope :)

Oh hello, Australian Open

http://i53.tinypic.com/286vi50.png

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - Maria Sharapova has been training hard ahead of the first grand slam of the Amazing Race Tour. Sharapova hit Rod Laver Arena today for a practise session under the sweltering heat. In less than a day or two, she will be staged in the same arena ahead of her first round match against Maria Kirilenko. The Russian is confident that she can win this, but hard work must be put in for it to be possible.

To be a champion, you need to be hard-working and commited. Your results will come through if you work hard and perfect eveything. I am trying to do that, though I am not there yet. So I am still unsure about my first round match with Maria Kirilenko. She's a good friend of mine, and she has a good game. It will be interesting to see what she throws at me tomorrow.

Looking ahead of the draw, it looks very difficult and unbalanced. I mean come on, Domi, me and Vika all in the same section? It's brutal really.

Sharapova was asked about her sudden change of hair colour.

I was called a 'dumb blonde' during the first week of ART. I mean, I obviously am not. I mean, dumb blondes don't just stroll to Sydney and take home the trophy. But no, I decided I wanted to bring something new to Melbourne. You know, spice it up. So I chose purple, because pruple is not a dumb colour, it's a fierce colour.

Maria Sharapova is also known for her on-court fashion. Her outfits can be a hit or a miss, but usually it's freaking stunning.

I wore the dress in training. It's a blue dress with spaghetti straps. The waist line is alot higher, it's almost to my chest area. And it's really comfortable and really refreshing. But the most important thing is that it's inspired by pregnant women and the maternity stage of life (http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/56629486.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=77BFBA49EF878921F7C3FC3F69D929FD3D6E8E24F8AD364C 369E30FFC207889142AF8D706150C6180B6AE4F903F69820).

What are you most looking forward to about Melbourne?

Well I love Melbourne. It's a great city for shopping and there are lots of Serbian fans there that come and support me instead of Ana, she just is plain boring to be honest.

A lot of the players on tour don't really like you because of your close relationship with maria sharapova, what do you think to this?

Well Maria and I are great friends, we grew up together and we both think that everyone else on tour is a bitch and they can't play tennis to save themselves. Besides that, we both have great backhands.

You had a decent start to the year but to your standards you want better, will it be your week this week in Melbourne?

Yeah look, I started the year with a bad headcold which prevented me from playing my best tennis. It's very hot in Australia and it takes me a while to get used to the conditions and I often find it difficult to breathe in matches. But it's all ok as long as I win.

Last week, Alona Bondarenko secretly quoted you as being 'a joke'. What are your thoughts on this?

Which Bondarenko is that? So confusing!

Who are you teaming up with in the doubles this week? Why? And is this important to you?

I'm teaming up with Maria again this week, as she's the best player on the tour. It's important because it's our mission to save the tour and retrieve it from the depths of slumpsville.

Any last words?

What do you think of my shoes?

What are you most looking forward to about Melbourne?
Throughout my career I always loved playing in Melbourne. Is such a great city and a great Venue to host the first slam of the year. I didn't mention before but blue is my favorite color and last year I made the finals under the blue surface when I lost to that Slut Rena but hopefully this year I will go one step further and take the tittle:devil: .
You had a good start to your season with a quarter final showing at Sydney, do you think you can replicate that this week in Melbourne or what more, go even further to take the title?
I definitely think I can. I had a great week last week when I lost to a really good friend of mine Victoria, a performance which I think really showed me that I should work hard and make it happen in Melbourne. Sydney is such a good preparation for me and I am considering to come there next year as well.
Who do you expect to be the world's number 1 after this tournament?
.
I don't know. I mean I want to be the world number 1 but I don't know if I can achieve it after Melbourne or it will take me more time. I think Azarenka has a pretty good chance and that girl what was her name:scratch: Oh Cibulkova as well but who knows. I'm looking to face these players in my draw and we'll see what happens .

Last week, Maria Sharapova called you a 'has been' what do you think to this?
I haven't heard about this but I would suggest her to come and say that to my face:devil:. I respect her game and her as well but sometimes she's over the top she is a blonde after all so nothing is surprising here:rolleyes:.I'm looking forward to facing her in Melbourne and maybe show her If those words are true or not .

Who are you teaming up with in the doubles this week? Why? And is this important to you?

I am teaming up with my close friend Kuznetsova. She plays doubles more often than I do and she invited me to join her and of course I accepted without thinking twice. It is really important for me and of course its a tittle I want to win and it will be much more greater if I do it now with Kuzzy .Players you better watch you're back

Any last words?

I would like to say to Maria and to Jankobitch "Allez up your fucking ass" cause they deserve it :p.Bye:kiss:

Vera Zvonareva (RUS) def. Marion Bartoli (FRA)
3-6 6-4 6-3

And the first grand slam of the year has kicked off in style with the hard hitting Zvonareva advancing through to the second round. She had trouble with keeping her emotions in check after losing a very lack-luster set on her behalf where both players produced a total of 40 unforced errors combined. The second set was much more competitive and even Marion's complaint to Eva Asderaki regarding the bright colour of Bepa's trainers couldn't get her the win. Will this become an annoyance to her next opponent? Vera through in 3 sets.

Over on Hisense now and it is looking like a quite similar result to the one we've just seen on Rod Laver. Hopman Cup champion Alona Bondarenko recovered from a slump first set to go on and defeat the young Czech in exactly 70 minutes. Krystina still looks as though she is struggling to keep up with the more experienced players on the tour and yet again has had another tough draw. Alona has looked dangerous now for the best part of two weeks and anybody in her section of the draw should fear her. Getting hotter in Melbourne.

5-7 7-6(7) 7-5

In a match that lasted over 3 hours out on court 6, Anabel yet again grinded her way to another spectacular victory. Anastasia showed a lot of guts by hitting some very risky shots and almost had the match wrapped up with her very own match point at 6-5 in the second set tiebraker but in a rally of 31 shots, Anabel played a drop shot that just skimmed over the net leaving no time for Anastasia to get to it. Anabel seemed too surprised to aplogize and Anastasia barely gave her time for it during the handshake at the end of the match. Nevertheless, Anabel advances to the second round after another hard worked peformence.

Elena Vesnina (RUS) def. Kim Clijsters (BEL)
7-6(6) 6-4

In two exceedingly close sets, Rod Laver saw another Russian advance to the second round after Elena Vesnina showed some promising talent against the Belgian to tough it out in three sets. Kim still seemed very rusty even a way into the first season of the tour and her mind looks to be elsewhere. Elena however, seemed focused from the start and employed her tactics brilliantly in the first set to save three set points which Kim possessed. The second was an easier contest for Vesnina and she now advances through to the next round.

In a mixed momentum match out on Hisense Arena, Gisela Dulko came out on top after a tough third set to reach the second round. Gisela showed some great versatility in her game and had close friend Ashley Harkleroad watching her out on court to cheer her on. The crowd really got behind this match in the third set and it could have gone either way but in the end Gisela utilized the whole of the court to her advantage and cuaght Heidi out several times at the net. A good effort from Heidi but she is still looking for her first win of the season. Gisela is looking in good form as she advances through to the next round.

Anna Chakvetadze (RUS) def. Mashona Washington (USA)
5-7 6-4 7-6(5)

Over on court 6, it was a very desperate afair between these two with both players constantly arguing with the umpire and screeching quite fiercely especially in the third set. Anna is one of 7 Russians playing today and certainly hasn't looked like the strongest out of them at all. But she is showing signs of getting her confidence back and after winning the Auckland doubles title last week, her serve and volley skills came in handy especially in the second set to level things up. Mashona played a great match but she still needs to improve on certain things like her footwork if she wants to win matches convincingly. Anna survives another day and advances through to the second round.

Aravane Rezai (FRA) def. Dinara Safina (RUS)
7-6(3) 2-6 6-2

Last match up on Rod Laver arena, saw yet another three set encounter between Sydney doubles champion Rezai and hot tempered Russian, Dinara Safina. The first was an exciting set with both players playing a decent set but it was Aravane who really let loose, swinging freely and achieving an impressive 7 winners in the tiebrake. Dinara seemed much more motivated in the second set and was hitting close to the lines and corners which really phased Aravane but then in the thrid set, Dinara changed her tactics completely and sometimes was only hitting half court balls which allowed Aravane to come in and attack. When Dinara was 4-2 down, she seemed hot and bothered and threw away the last two games with a dissapointing 8 unforced errors to give Aravane the match a ticket to round 2.

Showing what a future prospect she can be laura put up a fight against Serbia's Jelena Jankovic in the First Round of the Australian Open!! JJ didn't have much to think about in the First set, however coming into the second was a whole complete new ball game!! laura played amazingly well outlasting JJ in the Second Set!! However coming into the third JJ knew what she had to do to get the job done, taking the Final Set in style!!

Victoria Azarenka (BLR) def. Dominika Cibulkova (SVK)
1-6 7-5 6-1

In one of the most highly anticipated matches of round 1, Hisense Arena was packed out to witness who would advance through to the next round here and it was Victoria who looked to continue her good run at Sydney and do the same here in Melbourne with an impressive win over the champion at Auckland last week. Dominika looked like she was going to waste no time in advancing through to the next round when she opened a 6-1 5-3 lead but she was not to win another game after that and Victoria fought and fought with some stunning baseline battles between the pair and it is Victoria who will go on to face Elena Vesnina in the next round.

Johanna Larsson (SWE) def. Francesca Schiavone (ITA)
6-3 1-6 6-3

The last match of the day was over on Court 6 where Johanna Larsson was the last player of the day to earn her place in the second round of the first grand slam of the year by defeating Francesca Schiavone of Italy in three sets. The match lasted for just over an hour and Johanna looks to be showing some consistent form here with having victories in both Perth and Auckland prior to coming here. Francesca seemed a little confused with what she had to do out on court and after playing some exciting technical play in the second set, couldn't stop Johanna from playing her game and in the end, Johanna seemed the better player out on court.

Maria Sharapova's Press Conference after R1 Win.

http://i53.tinypic.com/2lw3g4n.png

Maria Sharapova defeated China's Jie Zheng in a close R1 encounter. The scoreline was 5-7 6-2 6-4.

Maria, congrats on your round one win. How do you feel right now?

Tired of course. Jie is one heck of a player, running down every single ball that I threw at her. I'm glad I got through eventually. It was defenitely a tough match today.

Are you happy with how you played today?

Not really no. I think I did play well during the 2nd set, but I became an error machine in the 1st and last set. I think I was very lucky to pull through.

What was your game plan coming into this match.

Well actually, I didn't have one. I know, it's because I thought I was going to play Maria Kirilenko. I stepped onto court, and looked over the net. Makiri isn't asian?! Makiri doesn't have black hair?! She's not that short! And then I realised, and yea.

Looking ahead in the draw, who do you see as your biggest threat?

Well since the pretender has been knocked out, the biggest competition I'd have with is Victoria Azarenka. She's a great girl, big groundstrokes, amazing grunt but and shitastic head. I beat her in Sydney, yes, but there is no denying that she is even hungrier than last time and her game has obviously improved. But then again, all of the girls have amazing tactics that could throw me off. Who knows, I could even lose the next round.

Are you looking forward to doubles?

It's only fun if JJ's your partner.

Thankyou Maria.

Thanks for your interest.

Queen Vee storms back to devastate Lucic!

Today, Venus stormed back to ensure her place in the Australian Open 2nd round after dropping her first set against a courageous Mirjana Lucic.
http://im.in.com/connect/images/profile/b_profile5/Venus_Williams_300.jpg

Interviewer
So that first set, what went wrong? She seemed to be all over you.

Venus
Well, Mirjana is certainly a player to watch out for, she came out firing on all cylinders today, she was banging winner after winner there wasn't much that I could do to stop her.

Interviewer
What changed going into the second set? That was quite the turnaround there.

Venus
You know, In the second set I tried changing things up, I rushed the net a lot more and she seemed to be a little unnerved by it. It certainly paid off, but if she was playing somebody else on another day she certainly would have stormed through to the second round in straights--she was playing beautiful tennis. You know the third she did make a better start--but I was lucky my serve was on today so it was all good. I actually have to run because I'm going out with the ladies tonight--and Serena--in her boot! I wish Mirjana the best of luck in her next tourney and perhaps the doubles here! Bye guys!

In a disappointing loss for Laura Robson she suffered her second defeat in a row...to a player from Serbia no less....

Interviewer
So, what went wrong out there today?

Robson
EVERYTHING. I WAS PLAYING AGAINST A TRASHY GIRL THE UMPIRES WERE AGAINST ME, and the STUPID CROWD applauded when I made a mistake. It wasn't my fault I lost...She just had everyone on her side. So unfair. She's from SERBIA. need I say more?

Interviewer
So...We don't like people from Serbia. I got it. So what might you be doing tonight or the rest of this week?

Robson
Well, tonight I'll be burning an effigy of Jelena...what else would I be doing? We Brits are masters of witchcraft! I'm going to make SURE she loses her next match. Yup, this is your first and last warning Jelena. I'm probably hanging out here for the rest of the week. Hopefully me and Dinara can make some headway in the doubles but otherwise...it'll be back to training for me!

Jo-La shocks Melbourne

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1304/4678480645_4cd4a7027d_m.jpg

It's Melbourne the first G1 tourament of the season. All the best players from all over the world are facing each other and showing their skills, but only one will be the winner. Yesterday, Johanna Larsson shocked Melbourne by defeating Italian veteran Francesca Schiavone in three sets. That's a short interview of the young Swedish girl:

Interviewer
Congrats Johanna, you advanced to the second round here in Melbourne after a hard fight against your doubles partner Francesca Schiavone. What do you feel?

Johanna Larsson
I feel really happy. I wanted to start well this year, and so I did. When I first saw my opponent, I was really scared, because everybody knows Francesca is an excellent player, who has a lot of weapons and who can really do everything in a match. But when I found myself against her in the court, I started to feel better, I cannot explain why. After winning the first set leaving my opponent only 3 games, it was like I was facing a different opponent in the second set, and this time it was Francesca to leave me few games: only one! But in the third set, I was good enough to win again 6-3, and now I'm with you speaking about this fantastic win.

Interviewer
All Round 1 was played today. Which results surprised you?

Johanna Larsson
Uhm, all the matches have been very interesting. I've to say there are a few players I preferred to lose in their first round, but this didn't happen. I'm a bit surprised by Cibulkova's loss: no doubt Azarenka is a good players, but I thought Cibulkova could easily win this.
I considered Robson one of the favourites to win this tournament and... she lost! Oh well, that's better for us!

Interviewer
We all hope we can see you happy the same way after the match against Kimiko Date. Good luck Johanna!

Johanna Larsson
I think I'll need a lof of luck! Thanks you all.

Alize Cornet (FRA) def. Ana Ivanovic (SRB)
6-3 3-6 7-5

And the first match of the day over on Rod Laver Arena sees a heartbreaker for Ivanovic fans as she is sent packing out of the second round of the Aussie open. It was a nervy affair throughout most of the match for the Serb and even though she showed sings of being a potential top 10 player, Alize Cornet was playing like a top ten player consistently. Alize will now await the winner of the match between Johanna Larsson and Kimiko Date Krumm.

Maria Kirilenko (RUS) def. Andrea Hlavackova (CZE)
6-3 6-7(5) 6-4

It was another match where Andrea had to show us her true fighting spirit which we saw all last week in Auckland but unfortunately she couldn't quite get a hold on this match with the amount of unforced errors she produced and the limited winners which she needed to defeat Maria today. The Russian was playing phenomenally in all three sets and always kept her composure even after having a match point in the second set. Maria moves onto the third round.

Karolina Pliskova (CZE) def. Anne Keothavong (GBR)
6-3 4-6 7-5

Over on Court 6, it was yet another close match this time between the young Czech Karolina Pliskova and the Brit Anne Keothavong. Karolina was being watched by her sister Krystina Pliskova and this seemed to spur her on especially in the third set and she scores the first win for a Pliskova sistet this season. Karolina now moves on to face either Jelena Jankovic or Alona Bondarenko in round 3.

Rebecca Marino (CAN) def. Maria Sharapova (RUS)
7-5 1-6 6-2

A big surpise over on Rod Laver arena, Sydney champion Maria Sharapova is out of the competition to young Canadian Rebecca Marino. Rebecca made the quarters last week in Auckland and looks to be continuing her fine form in the ART tour this week with a fantastic win over the Russian. This was helped of course by an angry Dominika Cibulkova who had to be escorted out of the arena for chucking things at the Russian in the final set. Whether this affected Maria or not, Sharapova just looked to be shell shocked by the 'never die' attitude that Rebecca had and Maria looked a little vulnerable just like she did in Perth 2 weeks ago. Nevertheless, Maria should find herself somewhere in the top 10 next week.

2-6 6-2 7-5

And the three setters just keep and rolling along, this time Alona Bondarenko, the Hopman cup champion arising as the victor. It was a big ask today for Jelena to down the on form Ukrainian as Alona has been in fine form the past 2 weeks, also making the quarter finals last week in Auckland. Jelena was close on several occasions having let 2-0 in the second set but Alona Bondarenko showed us girt and determination and goes on to face Karolina Pliskova in the third round of the competition.

Gisela showed us why she is one to look out for this tournament with another victory in season 1 of the ART tour. She lead Team Americas to the trophy in Hong Kong and now she looks as though she is taking control of the Aussie Open and will play either Anna Chakvetadze or Patty Schnyder in the third round. Unfortunately for Sveta today, she played well in the first and second set and could have had the match in straight sets but the horrors of Sydney affected her game too much today.

Sabine Lisicki (GER) def. Andrea Petkovic (GER)
0-6 6-3 6-2

After a slump first set from Sabine, she looked very rusty having not won a match all season, the effects of Auckland still seemed to be playing on her mind. Andrea was fired up and ready to go, playing a brilliant first set, the form which carried her through yesterday. What was to follow was to be on of the greatest reversals of the tournament so far with Sabine playing out of her skin hitting piercing ground strokes and serves way past 100MPH. Sabine was thrilled to win afterwards throwing her racket up in the air and this will take her through to round 3 where she will face either Venus Williams or Aravane Rezai.

3-6 6-4 6-3

In probably the most anticipated match of the day, Vera Zvonareva came from a set down to defeat Justine Henin and advance to third round of the competition. In a rematch from last week in Sydney, Justine looked to do the exact same thing by defeating Vera again in straight sets but it was at 4-4 in the second set when Vera began to hit harder and force Justine onto the back foot. A good effort from Justine who should find herself comfortably in the top 30 next week. Vera goes on to face Maria Kirilenko in the third round.

In the most exciting third set of the day so far, Julia Goerges downed the American to move onto the third round where she will face Maria Sharapova's conquerer Rebecca Marino. Ashley played some good tennis in the third set, shocking Julia but the Hong Kong winner couldn't replicate that form in the next two sets and have Julia the advantage she needed to gain control of the match.

7-6(6) 6-4

Vika produced a convincing victory here today by defeating Elena Vesnina in straight sets, showing that she is now one of the favourites to grab the title at the end of the week. Vika had to work for it though, Elena saved six match points in all and had 2 set points of her own in the first set, playing some clever tennis. Vika was too strong though in the second set, only producing 2 unforced errors all set. She now goes on to face either Nadia Petrova or Daniela Hantuchova in the third round.

7-6(7) 6-3

Sam Stosur gave the home crowd something to cheer for with a straight sets victory over Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain. Anabel showed us some classic Anabel-style tennis in the first set, delyaing Sam a quick and easy route through to the third round but ultimately the serve of Sam prevented Anabel from gaining a hold on the match and suddenly Anabel fell into playing the way Sam wanted her to play. Sam now moves on to face either Flavia Pennetta or Timea Babos in the third round.

In one of the closest matches of the day, Nadia Petrova defeated Daniel Hantuchova to have the chance to face Victoria Azarenka in the next round of the competition. Daniela was extremely unlucky today, showing some great counterpunching tennis, always having an answer to Nadia's power but she could not sustain it throughout the whole of the match, finally succumbing to the excellence of Nadia Petrova. Nadia utlized her serve brilliantly and produced an outstanding 26 winners. A close match but it was Nadia who books her place in the third round.

Timea Babos (HUN) def. Flavia Pennetta (ITA)
6-4 6-2

In another surpise victory, Timea Babos defied the odds to go on and defeat Flavia Penneta of Italy in straight sets. Timea had not won a match coming into this competition and is now in the third round. She played some clever agressive tennis today, not allowing Flavia to play her game. Flavia seemed a little confused by how well Timea was playing even though she played a decent first set, only producing 6 unforced errors. Timea stormed through the second set and will no face home favourite, Sam Stosur in round 3.

Press Conference of Dominika Cibulkova

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_8LqR2Ugda3I/SXKV0pgP2nI/AAAAAAAABTA/teI29X9gn7o/s320/dominika+cibulkova.jpg
Dominika shows her first trophy

It wasn't good start for Dominika. After big fight she lost against star from Belarus, Viktoria Azarenka. Just after the match Dominika in rush left the court and back to hotel. But now, she arrived to tennis center for her second conference in Melbourne.

Interviewer: How is it to lost in first round when a lot people think about you as the favorite to win whole AO?

Originally said by Dominika Cibulkova
That lost wasn't surprise for me. Before the tournament I said that I really don't care about winning in single here. Of course every lost doesn't taste good, but I was defeated by very good player.

Your big opponent, Maria Sharapova, lost today. She wasn't able to win with Rebecca Marino. Is that lost was something unusual for you?

Originally said by Dominika Cibulkova
Not really. I supposed that something like that could happened. In first round she easily won with unprepared Jie Zheng, which had really big problems with her tennis now. In next round she faced to someone who played good and has brilliant tactics. So she lost.

But Maria was big favo to win here!

Originally said by Dominika Cibulkova
Who said that? Probably she? She should spend more time on court and practice and less time on twitter. Todays match shows that any good player could win with her. Even change color of her hairs didn't help her. She still plays and thinks: "Look at me, I am a star, I am beauty".

I don't see any big difference between you and her. You suppose to be similar to her?

Originally said by Dominika Cibulkova
It's nonsense. As I said, my lost wasn't a coincidence. I really don't care about single title. I'm here to win doubles. But she was too sure that she will win everything here and she was punished. I think she is really vain person

Your friends from team, Anna and Nadia won today. Did you see those matches?

Originally said by Dominika Cibulkova
Sure. They played fantastic matches today. For me Anna has really big chances to reach semifinal, or even win title. Nadia will face against Vika, I wish her the best, but she probably lose with her.

Tomorrow will start doubles. You again play with Anna.

Originally said by Dominika Cibulkova
Yes, and I'm really excited. I know we have big chances to win the title.

So good luck tomorrow. I hope we will meet tomorrow after your win.

Originally said by Dominika Cibulkova
Thank you, and see you tomorrow.

Plays well

After a difficult last week, the first major of the year, Dulko won two consecutive match at the Australian Open and is in third round.
Argentina's permission to obtain a good level in a exihibicion americas team where to have to win the cup, but the following week was a reflection and lost very quickly.
The workouts were hard, had to improve if wanted to go far and so is today is installed in the third round of Australia Open.
In the first round Dulko faced Heidi El Tabakh and the result was 62 26 75, with many good moments on Dulko in the match.
For the second round, sitting in front of the dangerous D Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova and the result was in favor of Dulko who won 75 26 62.

- I'm fine physically and psychologically, it makes me stronger. Needed to win so many games to rely on my level. I'm failing too much on my second set, perhaps it is deconcentration. I'm a little sad that Ashley lost her singles, but let's put everything in doubles - said Dulko

After having won her first match in Melbourne against Italian veteran Francesca Schiavone, Johanna Larsson lost to a very good Kimiko Date Krumm in the second match. 6-4 6-2 was the final score. There's a short interview released by Larsson after this loss:

Interviewer
Hi Johanna. Did you expect this loss against Date?

Johanna Larsson
If I have to say the truth, I expected something better. I could do undoubtly a lot more, but Kimiko was simply better today. I knew I had not many possibilities to win this, but I tried to make few unforced errors and many winners, but it was not enough.

Interviewer
By the way, a lot of good players lost today: Sydney champion Maria Sharapova, Slovakian best girl Daniela Hantuchova, Italian player Flavia Pennetta... these are only few names. What do you think about?

Johanna Larsson
I was suprised when I saw Masha losing: it seemd she had no more energies in the third set. But well, I suppose it isn't a very strange thing: we have started this season a few years ago, so...

Interviewer
But Alona Bondarenko won.

Johanna Larsson
I'm happy for her.

Interviewer
Really?

Johanna Larsson
Nah, I was joking.

Interviewer
Tell us something about your future.

Johanna Larsson
I'm going to prepare myself for the Stockholm, my favourite tournament in this first season. My biggest desire now is to win there.

Maria Sharapova loses in Australian Open

http://i53.tinypic.com/2ylnq6r.png

MELBOURNE, AUS - Maria Sharapova's Australian Open campaign came crashing down after losing to Rebecca Marino 76 16 62. Sharapova let a 1st set lead slip, which costed her after losing the final set easily.

It's obviously disappointing that I lost today. After Sydney I was coming into this tournament quite confident but to lose in the 2nd round only isn't satisfactory. I think Marino played a great match today, I she deserves to go through to the next round.

Earlier today, fellow ART player Dominika Cibulkova made some snipy comments about Maria Sharapova. Here is what she had to say back.

Dear Dominika, I did not say I was the favourite of the Australian Open. In fact, it was you who said it, when you said "Oh no, I'm in the draw of Vika and Maria Sharapova." Stop trying to make yourself a doubles player. Stop making stuck-up comments about your amazing doubles play just because you sucked ass at singles. You know, if I could, I could say I dont care about the singles and try to win the doubles. But no, I'm not desperate like you. If you want, go and read your first interview that you gave in Melbourne, where you claim many people thought you were the favourite. Who? The strippers you had with sex before heading to Melbourne? I don't think so. Stop posting though shit comments about other players on twitter. You aren't funny, you're making yourself seem desperate. And no, I'm not the only player who thinks this. And it's really sad that you take pleasure out of me losing. You're a tennis player, not a politician. Stop being a sadistic person. It won't get you anywhere in life.

Maria Sharapova will now continue her ART tour with a couple of International tournaments where she looks to rebuild her confidence and play. But before that, she plays in the doubles with Jelena Jankovic.

She's a nice girl. She's tranny and weird, but that's the reason why I like her. We enjoy shopping together ALOT. I can't wait to get out there and play doubles together. Hopefully we can make a good run in doubles, but you know, we're not quite good at doubles anyway.

http://i56.tinypic.com/2vwhggg.jpg

Jelena, you seemed to play alright out there today but was it just a case of losing to a better opponent?

Yeah I think my opponent was too good for me today. So I must congratulate Kateryna on playing good. Actually I have a funny story to tell. I arrived at Melbourne Park 15mins before my match because I was out doing karaoke because I heard the news that baby Ana was on a flight back to Serbia.

Ana is your fellow countrywoman, there must be some sort of mutual respect there?

No there isn't any. Who does she think she is yelling ajde and fistpumping every point, squeaking her shoes...watching her lose is almost as fun as going shopping. Ajde bitch!

You had 4 medical timeouts during the match, what seemed to be the problem?

Well actually there was no problem, I just tried to delay the game and change momentum. It didn't work today but usually it does so I was a bit surprised.

Who do you think will go on to win the tournament now?

Honestly, I don't care. The AO is now a joke, most of the remaining players are useless. But if I had to pick someone to win it would be Anna Chakvetadze. She's cool.

So doubles now? Any expectations?

Doubles will be fun with Maria. We both have amazing volleys...no I'm just kidding (laughter). I'm not sure who will take what side, because both of us prefer our backhands, and Maria's forehand is better than mine, and the weaker player usually takes the forehand side. Anyway we are meeting at Gloria Jeans soon to discuss our tactics.

Anna continues her journey. Will she survive Gisela?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40030000/jpg/_40030200_tennis4.jpg

Melbourne, Australia - It wasn't good day for fans of Russian tennis. Probably the best Russian player, Maria Sharapova, was defeated today by Marino. But surprising Anna Chakvetadze won her match. After her match against Mashona Washington she wasn't consider as favorite the match with Patty Schnyder. But luckily for her, Patty didn't have her best day. Probably Schnyder's still looking her good form, so Anna used her all skills, and after quite good match she won with Swiss player 6-3, 6-3.

Originally said by Anna Chakvetadze
It wasn't perfect match, I did a lot of unforced errors again, but I won it somehow. Now I have to focus on my next single match against Gisela Dulko, who plays really amazing tennis here. Additional tomorrow starts doubles, so I will be busy in Friday.

Match against Gisela is really important for Anna, but probably not the most. As she said before tournament, she and her doubles partner Cibulkova want to win the title. What does Anna think about her chances to grab the doubles title?

Originally said by Anna Chakvetadze
Maybe I'm too confident, but I feel we can win the title. We are in good shape, and rude comments about Dominika's form don't change this fact. And as I said before the AO started, on this tournament I wanna focus on doubles. Of course, if we won't win, world would still exist, but

During the Australian Open the conflict between Dominika Cibulkova and Maria Sharapova appeared again. What about it thinks Anna?

Originally said by Anna Chakvetadze
It's really strange for me to comment this. I really like my compatriot Maria, but I and Domi, we are good friends. Sometimes I wonder WTF is going on. One of the best players in tour behave like little children. It's amazing how mature people treat each other in that sick way. It's weird.

http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy62/milot11/sabine-lisicki-2010-1-6-0-40-46.jpg

How are you feeling in Australia and what does this win mean to you?

I am feeling great actually. Reaching the third round is a big thing for me right now and hopefully I can continue with my progress and maybe make it into the second week:shrug:.

You match was a really tough one.You came from 0-6 in the first set.!

Yeah I mean I started hitting the ball pretty well after that horrible first set but overall it was a great and enjoyable match :)

What do you think of the great Upsets that have happened around do they give you more confidence that you can win the tournament?

It was shocking yeah all those top players lost so early. I mean its really weird not to see players like Henin or Kuznetsova or even Jankovic and Sharapova around now but this is what tennis is all about playing against them and beating them :). No for sure it doesn't give me more confidence cause I got my own game plan and I got to focus on that and hopefully it will work :)

What do you think of your next match? You're in the third round now :)?

Well I still don't know who my next opponent is but hopefully I'll find that out really soon. But I heard its between Venus or Rezai. For me its OK to play either of them but still I want to wait and see :)!

The tension between players was notable during this tournament! What is your opinion for them?

I think those discussions were ridiculous and childish. Thank good nobody picked on me until now:shrug:.

What about your doubles match? Are you excited?

Of course I am. I am playing with Vesnina a great girl and a friend of mine and maybe we can have a good run here. Unfortunately her run got cut short in singles but I think in doubles we will have a different story!

Any last words?

No.Just thanks to all my fans who are supporting me :).Love them .

Vera, how happy are you after this win?
Extremely hyappay with the way I played today. I got the tactics right this time.

Are you pleased that it was Justine you beat or would you have preferred some other opponent?
No no. Ekshuli I like playing Justine. It's always a challenge playing her. It was a tough match today and I'm glad I was able to pull through this one.

In the first set what happened? How did you manage to pick up from that?
Ekshuli I was rilli pissed off about our last match. My concentration wasn't there at all and I ended up donating that set. After that I just started to concentrate better and my tactics began to work. It was a tough match Justine played really well and made it a rilli tough match.

How far do you think you can go here? Most of the favourites including Maria Sharapova were eliminated
Well I mean I'm just gonna take it one match at a time. I can't take anything for granted. It's sad that Maria couldn't win, she's a good friend of mine but I think it was a pretty close match.

What are you going to do to celebrate?
Mmm satisfy myself by looking at hot men

You also have doubles with Elena Dementieve, what are your expectations for that?
Well again me and Elena are just gonna try and do our best. We gonna discuss some tactics with each other and hopefully we will have fun out on court. I like playing with her, she is a rilli nice girl.

Note: the words hyappay, Ekshuli, rilli and pissed are taken from Kiri's vocabulary ;)

really bad Nadia's picture, but during conference she looked worse

We have to wait for Nadia few hours after her match against Daniela Hantuchova due to err...."personal reason" ;) During the conference she didn't say anything interesting except:
Remember, I have big potential, I was 3rd in ranking, but now I want drink something

Russia's Nadia Petrova said (or try to said) she believed all time in herself and herself skills and now she thinks it was her best match in this season. Former world number 3, after closest match won 5-7 7-5 6-3 and produced an outstanding 26 winners.
The 29-year-old Muscovite will meet in next round giant-killer Viktoria Azarenka from Belarus.

The french Alize Cornet disappoint the many fan of the muse serbian Ana Ivanovic. Alize won in three sets 6-3 3-6 7-5 to advance to the third round of the first GS of the season. She now faces the very very old Kimiko Date Krumm.

What about the match of today?
It was a difficult match. The crowd was for Ivanovic, but I never gave up. I knew my family was there cheering for me.

And the next match?
I face a veteran player, very experienced. I'm sure of defeat  But I will appear in court. Maybe a miracle :help:

Yes, it was great, with me and Kristy haven't scored a win yet, it was great to win a match.

You veresed Anne Keothavong she is a great player how did you handle her?
Man, it was really hard to handle her we had so many long rallies and yes she is a great player, but it was just i came out on top in a tight three setter.

You will face Alona Bondarenko next, shes already knocked out Kristyna, will she knock you out?
I hope not , she is a really good player and i am just going to have to do my best to beat her.

How was your match today?
It was great, she played a good match today but I was better.

You veresed Anabel Medina Garrigues she is a great player how did you handle her?
It was alright to handle her but things were more clicking my way, the first set was really tight but the second set I felt more comfortable.

You will face Timea Babos next what will be your strategies?
She will be a tough one, I will just play my normal game and see how she goes will my forehand.

"Fashion queen" Aravane advances!

http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/2010+Australian+Open+Day+3+kj8q5Fx5v2Tl.jpg
Aravane hammers her signature forehand in her second round match

Melbourne, AUS On a day of numerous upsets, many players struggled to play the way they are supposed to have. However, Sydney doubles champion Aravane Rezai didn't let the curse happen on her and even transformed it into extra motivation, and defeated the big-serving American Venus Williams 6-2 2-6 7-5, in 2.5 hours!

"It was amazing to defeat a player like Venus, as she was such a tough opponent. But i think i deserved this win as i kept my composure in the whole match. I knew before the match if i need to beat her, i got to keep my shots in! I am so happy that my game plan worked and i can't wait for my next match!"

About her on-court outfits, Aravane has the following statements! "My outfits seem to be an issue in this tournament! In fact, i don't really think my outfits are that strange, i think they are fashionable! I think those people are only saying that because they are jealous of my beautiful outfits! (Journalist::rolleyes:) Tomorrow, i will be wearing another outfit designed by my best friend, so watch out guys!" (Journalist::help:)

We wish Aravane (and the audiences) best of luck!

One of Kimiko's greatest defensive shots - Backhand slices

Melbourne,AUS When most tennis players consider retirements in their late-twenties, on Court 6 today at the Melbourne Park, 40-year-old Kimiko Date Krumm won her match against the young Swede Johanna Larsson in straight sets, 6-4 6-3 in only 1.5 hours!

"What a win from me! I am really thrilled to close it out in two, which i don't normally do:p. In fact i was so worried about this match as i have a bye in first round, if i lose it, i will only get 5 points! Luckily i overcame the great pressure and played such a great match!"

22-year-old Johanna, who defeated Italian Schiavone yesterday, actually was Kimiko's doubles partner in Auckland last week. "After the doubles partnership last week with her, i know her game plan much better, which definitely has helped a lot in today's match. It's a shame we have to face each other so soon..."

Kimiko will next play Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, who defeated Ana Ivanovic today, for a chance to reach the quarterfinals!

What a pity Andrea!

http://www.wtatour.com/namedImage/12781/player_80459.jpg

The 24-years-old player from Rep. Czech Andrea Hlavackova, after having had a bye in the first round of Melbourne, lost to a very good Maria Kirilenko in three sets. The first set was won by the Russian player with the score of 6-4, but Hlavackova managed to come back winning the second one after a hard tie-break. But, as expected, Kirilenko won the third set and the match with the score of 6-3.
Not a bad match from Hlavackova: she showed she can do really well this year. She already did a great semifinal in Auckland (lost to Cibulkova), and so this might be her year.
Hlavackova said after her loss against Kirilenko:
Andrea Hlavackova
What a pity! I wanted to win this match, and I knew I could! Maria has simply been better today, she showed me in the third set there is still a lot of work to be done. But I'm happy for this start of season: a semifinal in Auckland and a second round in Melbourne isn't bad. Now I'd like to have a good ranking in order to make this good moment go on!

Alize Cornet (FRA) Defeated. Kimiko Date-Krumm (JPN)
2-6 7-6 (3) 6-3

With a first dominant set off Date-Krumm, Cornet looked confused and dazed during the end of the first set, and sat down looking slumped. The second set looked like it was to be similar, however after Krumm practically had the match in her hands, Kimiko let things slip, taking the second set into a tiebreak!! After this Cornet seemed to get her confidence back up taking the tiebreak in shocking fashion!! The third set became less of a contest with the Frenchwoman dislaying some of her best tennis, that in the end left Date-krumm dumbfounded!! Alize Cornet advances through to the Quarter-Finals of the Australian Open!!

7-6 (8) CT 6-1

With a close first set encounter, Anna Chakvetadze managed to outlast the threat in Gisela Dulko, with the closest set of the tournament!! The second set wasn't much to handle for the Russian taking a dominant second set, while looking very impressive for the Australian Open!!
