"teh" typo in the title is deliberate as well as for me unusual use of upper case :p

let's discuss all the off season stuff about ana in this thread until the end of her career.

First it was Navratilova's coach, then Graf's coach, next will be Lindsays coach;)
Ana should also give a big raise to Marija this offseason. She was such a key addition this year.

welcome back jonny, you are not posting much here these days :p

i don't know who her next coach will be, but i trust her and her team again just enough to believe that it will be ok

The weekly poll at the WTA web is about Ana this week. It asks what will be her 2011 year end ranking. Over 50% of the voters seem to think she will finish top 10. Have you guys voted? 3% voted she will be number 1!

I wonder where Ana will spend her off season training this season...Will she stay in Serbia or will she go somewhere warmer? The last 2 years she spent it in Australia but that did not go so well :p so as much as I'd like her to come back, she should not :p

Correction, Dave, she should not go to Queensland :pNothing wrong with Queensland OR Australians in general...she just foolishly picked some lame-ass inbred piece-of-shit rep from your country to spend her time with:lol:....Now that she appears to have sobered up,she can go anywhere she wants as long as she doesn't regress into choosing such slimy company. With Marija:angel: on board now,I'd call that scenario far less likely

"teh" is lame, but on the internet it has developed a meaning of its own, something like "the ultimate" and it can co-exist with the regular "the" :p it was meant to make the thread more recognisable since there are threads like this in other forums as well. i can correct it in the thread title just in case some grammar nazi starts complaining, but correct spelling is overrated anyway as the following research showed:

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. see?

as for us being mocked in gm, this is already happening anyway and it's not like we can do anything about it. remember the montreal wild card incident when people refused to understand what we were saying? and if ana really fullfills my wish and return to the top 5 gm is gonna be a really hostile place for us.

Cool new diary by Ana:

Memories of Bali

What an end to the season! I had such a good time in Bali. The tournament director was joking with me and my team, that I enjoyed my last trip there - especially the beaches - a little too much, as I lost in the first round!

So I'm glad I put that right, and proved that I can play good tennis even in the most relaxing environments!

It definitely felt a little unusual, to be in such a beautiful place, full of resorts and people on holiday, while we were competing in an intense tournament. But it was the perfect combination and it brought out some of my best tennis.

When I arrived I was a little concerned about the court: the orange colour was cool, but I thought it was a little bit fast, and it felt so strange to play without the doubles lines. But I soon I came to love it. It was such fun to play on, and helped produce some great tennis. I didn't see much action aside from my matches, but everyone I spoke to said that the quality of tennis was very high. Definitely I felt that that was the case in my matches. The match against Date is one I remember for a long time.

I will also remember the hospitality we received, and the incredible support of the crowd. During the warm-up on Saturday, against Date, they sang "Happy Birthday", and I couldn't stop laughing. Also, the on-court announcer James was a very funny guy, and he would make jokes when he introduced the players, so it was hard to concentrate during the warm-ups!

Against Kleybanova I felt really good on the court. My confidence is back and tennis is so much more fun when you are confident about your game. She has so much power, but I feel like I did a good job of neutralizing it. My serve helped me a lot all week.

So now I will have a short holiday, then begin training for next season. Melbourne can't come soon enough! My holiday will be short, but then I am someone who finds it hard to totally switch off: I am an active person and, call me crazy, I am looking forward to the hard physical work that I will do in this preparation period.

Thank you very much for all your special birthday wishes, including the video messages I received.

Love
Ana

You can sense she didn't want to stop playing now! This makes a world of difference.. I think she really wants to be out there playing tennis again. :D

I agree with you that the actual slump portion is over...it's just a matter of whether Ana can overcome that final threshold...those mental obstacles that could make the difference between her being an excellent player or an all-time great.Hypothetically speaking:angel:,she might NEVER take that last step;she might always be a player who's capable of winning any Slam or major event...and then sucking with a 1st-Round loss in the following tourney.I wish that I could've magically snapped my fingers and erased the fatigue factor in Luxembourg;it would've told us something if Ana had won her first-ever back-to-back titles.

I knew that Ana would get to where she is now,but I'm too blinded with optimism to offer a clear prediction on what's next....IF she gets a quality coach who helps her strengthen her mental game, then she might reach the point where she longer needs full-time coaching...where she has G.O.A.T SEASONS,not just tourneys.I don't picture her being ranked any lower than she is currently(barring serious injury)...we'll just have to find out the hard way how deeply committed Ana truly is

I don't expect anything from Ana anymore. I think that's for the best. If she manages to surprise me and win something big, I'll be jumping from joy knowing deep down she was (but of course) capable of it - as I always believed.

Anyway, I think that high expectations were what caused her slump in the first place. That is so obvious and she tried so hard to get back the joy of playing tennis, which she lost once she reached the top and, on the other hand, the feeling she has nothing to lose. The weight of being at the top has been lifted from her shoulders and now she knows she can get back and, more importantly, stay there. In order to do that, the media, people around her and her fans need not to make a big deal out of it and let her find her way. She will, just as she managed to do it the first time.

I think she'll break back into the top 10 at some point next season. I want to see her win a big event (premier 5 or mandatory) and make at least one deep run at a slam.

Uff.. it's hard to say.. I really don't know what to expect from Ana.. it's hard to not expect anything after the improvement we've seen in the tail end of 2010.. but at the same time, there is still a lot of uncertainty.

I guess I have some hopes for 2011.. I would be disappointed to see Ana stall or get back to playing awful.. so my main hope is that she keeps improving. She is still a long way from top 10 level IMHO, but that's the next step.

Results wise, I hope to see her contending for the big tournaments.. premier 5 and madatories.. maybe win one or two. I would also be disappointed if she has another abysmal slam season. She needs to go out there and make at least one big slam result. I hope she can finally break the QF drought. And top 10 is very close, so it is also my hope for 2011 that she can get back to top 10 and make the YEC. For this to happen though, Ana needs to acomplish some consistency, so keeping the mind focused and a constant level of play is also something I want to see.

All this depends on so many things and factors though.. I mean.. first of all Ana needs to pick the right coach. We all know that bad guidance can be killer to Ana's tennis game.. she needs the good guidance and someone to keep her motivated and focused all the time. So I think a lot of what she acomplishes in 2011 will depend on this. Ana herself has to keep growing up and get used to pressures and expectations.. if she ever wants to be a real top player she can't go all desperate under the lights and eyes of the world.. she has to learn how to grow in these circunstances. So I want to see improvement in that area as well. Then there is also the matter of the off season.. the last 2 were disasters.. so she really needs to have a great preparation period this year, already with a good coach (and Marija obviously) by her side, and completely focused and determined to do well.

I think 2011 needs to be a year she get stability in her game and develops a consistent and reliable base level for her tennis. From then on she can improve, which is crucial, and get big results here and there, get back to top 10. It's all under a cloud of uncertainty and it's certainly a pity the year ended now, because Ana could have taken this good momentum further. I have no idea what result this break will bring.

azdaja
Nov 13th, 2010, 12:53 PM
well, i agree that the most important thing is that she continues imrpoving. i wonder if that also means she will get more consistent than in the past? surely she must have gotten stronger mentally after all the rubbish she had to endure in the past 2 years.

my wish would be for her to take a couple of titles, i don't care at which tournaments, but the bigger the better, of course.

I saw some people speculating over twitter if Ana could possibly be working with Nigel Sears due to being in London. He is a tennis coach and Andy Murray's girlfriend's father. I don't think that can be even retomotely true, though they might've had contact when Ana was practicing at the NTC in London. I wouldn't like it either.. I mean.. nothing against Sears, but his resume as a coach is being head of womans tennis at the LTA and coach to Hantuchova. Not that great. Ana needs a great coach.

Anyway.. I don't think he could be full time coach anyway.. with the LTA and all.

Hantuchova`s coach ...no way .We already had Kardon  now we need a great coach

I think she'll break back into the top 10 at some point next season. I want to see her win a big event (premier 5 or mandatory) and make at least one deep run at a slam.Help us out,Curtis;we wanna lend a hand with Ana's coaching search....see if you can get an e-mail address for Coach Mora(SENIOR,of course:lol:)....He has just the sort of tact and sensitivity to gel PERFECTLY with Ana,don't you agree?:p

And yes.. it has to be the right coach for her, a good match. She has a good chance to get back to top 10 in the first half of the season.. with barely nothing to defend.. but she needs to keep playing well, improve even more and keep winning.

Btw how is Adam doing with his slump ?Well...since you asked:p,he's playing an EXTRA Mickey Mouse,barely-credible tournament in Singapore...and he's actually in first place with a great chance of winning...but the final round was postponed due to rain...or maybe the angels just pissed on him;)...so he'll have to wait 'til tomorrow to pretend that he's a legit player with his candy-ass ITF-level trophy...

His ranking is exactly the same as Zakopalova's,yet his talent level is probably quite a bit lower than Klara's is.The good news for Adam is that there's a new big,highly-promoted tourney on the PGA schedule next year that he MIGHT be able to win. It's the Oscar Mayer 2011 Salami Swallower Cellblock-bitch Open, held outside San Francisco....He'll fit in PERFECTLY there:p...and who knows?...Now that Ana is unattainable for him,he might even get someone besides his mommy to come WAGging for him:lol:

Hey Jelena!

Yeah.. how things have changed! And Ana looks a LOT happier now. Hopefully we'll get even more winning pics by this time next year!

If that putt-putt caliber, cellblock bitch goes winless the rest of his season...and heads into 2011 on a bad streak,THEN I'll be satisfied that he's suffered enough to pay for his selfish, poisonous impact on Ana....as long as he never wins a GS,either:devil:(fat chance of THAT happening:p).....and I'll let him off the hook next year:angel:

Some of you have already made similar comments but, because tomorrow is a recognized holiday in Mexico(actual date on the 20th),it got me thinking about what a festive atmosphere we have now in Ana's forum...even with the uncertainty of the coaching search. There was almost a funeral-type feel to the forum even earlier this year...and that's the current mood in Dinara's forum:o.....so the contrast is awesomely wonderful.Despite all the help provided by Marija,Heinz and Holzmann,I'd be remiss for not thanking Ana herself for her re-dedication:cool:...it's been a great return ride,Ana:cool:(to the extreme)

She looks happier and not only game-wise.You and Azdaja did a good thing by giving me some perspective:).After a sleeping well,I woke up to a day off:cool: and realized that my happiness over Ana's comeback even outweighs the disappointment that I felt in the lowest depths of her slump...so there's no reason to be bitter when Swishy Dickhead has a fluke win at an ultra-MM tournament. As a 3rd-rate golfer,he'll never even be a blip on Ana's radar screen anymore, while HE will be bombarded by images of Ana every year she plays the AO...so that'll be a constant reminder that Ana jettisoned him, like a steamer expels its waste through the bilge pumps, once she gained a measure of maturity and realized what extraneous garbage and dead weight he was...so THAT'S punishment enough:p:angel:

All the same,if he ever gets jealous over Ana's next bf and decides to spout off derisively to the media,I'll count on your Ana-detective skills...or maybe our 'hurricane' Justin's...to let me know.....and then I'll plan a little surprise for a certain cellblock bitch's next golf tour stop in Mexico:devil::devil:

John van Lottum (born 10 April 1976 in Antananarivo, Madagascar) is a former tennis player from The Netherlands, who played professionally from 1994–2007. He did not win a title in singles or doubles during his career. Highlights include a win over Lleyton Hewitt, and reaching the 4th round of Wimbledon.

He is right-handed, and reached his highest individual ranking on the ATP Tour on 26 April 1999, when he became number 62 in the world. He has an older sister, Noëlle van Lottum, who played on the WTA Tour for France circuit from 1987–1999, with a career-high ranking of 57 in singles.

After his tennis career he was considered as a coach for Michaëlla Krajicek, but instead joined TV channel Eurosport as a tennis commentator. In June 2008, he coached Elena Dementieva during the Ordina Open and Wimbledon.

And the look at these quotes:

Van Lottum keeps itself also a blow to the arm. "I'm looking around and of course I utilizing the network of Sven", Van Lottum record.

"It is a talent. But a player who already is in the top one hundred."

He is advertising himself.. :o Typical kind of guy who wants to be more the star than his own player. :o The only guy he actually coached, Thiemo De Bakker, fired him after only 2 months due to multiple disagreements. Puff...

Sven Groeneveld..a former construction worker...i can't explain how upset i am right now.My biggest fear is that she is going to get back to Sven and APDP.I can't believe that Ana asked him for help. She was working with Kardon when she asked Sven to find her a doubles partner. After that i knew that Kardon wont last long. Does anyone remember that Sven and Cahill were in the crowd during Ana's first training with Heinz in IW? OH,yaeh, everything is under control... I can't believe that Ana still think Sven is a friend,i thought she realized, finally, that he ruined her career with bad decisions and advices.
Sven deserted her after RG and left her with hitting partner , that Melle guy...and Verdasco. The whole APDP was based on Ana,on her success and No 1 ranking. She was a "bait" for the other girls, and she praised Sven and APDP all the time. She was APDP walking billboard. But they needed another star,to prove that programme is working.More money-more players-more sponsors-more media attention. When he came back,he was spending more time with CW than with Ana.
Ana probably noticed that something was wrong, but she trust that man. "Sven knows me best". So "friend Sven" is trying to change something that works,to change her style, her "A" game...and she accepted his advice...it's Sven, for God's sake,a buddy-buddy coach...he would not destroy her confidence,he knows what's best for her. And he tried to create a mutant,a superior player with powerful FH, with Henin's BH ,JJ"s defensive skills and Venus'fast reaction on the net...The damage is done.Ana is trying to "improve" her game,to do what her coach wants her to do,but she doesn't believe in that "new Ana".She knows she can't be fast as JJ or deft as Venus, but she don't want to disapoint Sven, who think that she can't stay too long at No1 with her current game play. And if your coach doesn't believe in you-how can you believe in yourself? While Ana strugles mentally,Sven works with CW.
When she decided to work with Heinz-it was the day of her "rebirth".Heinz had to fix everything that Sven deliberetely "broke".Kardon has tried to fix things, but she didn't saw results, she started panicing, and she called Sven...Big mistake...Heinz is great coach but Ana needed time to accept the fact that there is nothing wrong with her, that Sven make a big mistake, that ,listening to Sven she didn't build her "B" game but she lost her "A" game and confidence. When her mind accepted that, that was the moment when she gave a real chance to Heinz and herself...that's what i thought...and i was wrong. Now she made same mistake one more time...she called Sven ...and look who has Sven found to help Ana? A clown..no wonder...7 coaches in 7 years...who would take her seriously, despite her recent good results.. Sven's "help" just proved that to me.

If Ana want to follow good experience which she have from choosing no big-name fitness coach, but person with ability to be very familiar with Ana and motivate her to working hard. So if current ideal photo-robot coach for Ana is some Serbian-female solution like in fitness Marija Lojanica case - it should be Biljana Veselinovic, former long-time Srebotnik coach. Only other Serbian option with similar Marija's background is Dejan Vranjes (current Serbian FED CUP coach) which like Lojanica worked with Ana in her early ages. But if is point to have female coach now, my ultimate secret favorite is Amelie Mauresmo! She start working since June with Michael Llodra like part-time coach and already have some amazing results. Amelie is on Ana box during RG/2008 final and she will arrive in Belgrade to watch Davis Cup final. So maybe my dream come true once again, like in Heinz Gunthardt case when I pick him more than year before he really start to work with Ivanovic, like ideal choice to force Ana to play attacking tennis once again, and use that God-gifted forehand as big weapon like before slump. BTW talking about Heinz, maybe thanks to Linz and Bali titles Ana (and her team) will start to thinking that she actually don't need full-time coach anymore and agree with Heinz 20-25 weeks limited conditions  But I guess we will know very soon what will be Ana (or Holzman?) choice. BTW rumors about Van Lottum I will take very seriously because Ana so often in past hire coaches from SUI-AUS-NED triangle (SUI:Kuharski, Paganini, Heinz; OZZIE:Taylor, Scott, Damian; DUTCH:Sven, Van Harpen, Van Lottum).

Doni sure has been quiet this week--no strong comments regarding Ana's potential coach....Doni's probably busy, like Serena, watching that marathon of classic BRADY bunch episodes on ESPN:)....

Some of you have accused Sven of purposely suggesting a lousy coach for Ana,and I think your accusations might have some validity. If Caro is his big priority now, then derailing a threat like Ana could be a helpful advantage for his new favorite gal.He may even be able to conceal his bitterness and gain subtle revenge for being fired, sort of....

Honestly, this is a decent test of Ana's maturity;why would she wanna trust some douchebag who sidetracked her career with such crappy advice previously? He introduced her to a couple sh--ty bfs as if he were Ana's pimp...though,to be fair,Nando was at least halfway supportive and far less damaging...Sven probably persuaded her to play Montreal in 2008 with the bad thumb...he screwed with her hitting and service motion....and now he's an authority on picking quality coaches???

It's time for a CLEAN break from APDP,Ana,and there are some MUCH more trustworthy folks in your life who could help you with this decision.....Oh and...it's fine that your mom is lending you emotional support, but PLEASE don't ask for her advice:eek: on which coach to pick,Ana

It strikes me as hypocritical that Ana fans bitch and whine about the negativity in GM(though I can appreciate protecting one's favorite)...and then make amazingly-similar superficial criticisms of Caroline.C'mon,Doni, you're a smart gal...you can see how stupidly infantile it is to suggest that Caro sits in her room at night and schemes how she can copy Ana:haha::haha:.Did she pose for a swimsuit mag and then fail to do any physical training last year?....Or did she change her 'pusher' style of play and become a ball-basher?Then I suppose she's not copying Ana very well,is she?;).For a 'no-talent pusher',she looked fairly good when she beat Ana in Beijing--and when she beat Sharapova at the USO.Serena is as aggressive as they come on-court--and she loves her sport--yet she doesn't appear the least bit offended by Caro's style of play(which has become NOTICEABLY more aggressive than it was at the start--plus she's only 20:angel:)...so why do YOU get so bent out of shape over her?

Gotta warn you,Chocolate Drop:smooch:,that you might have to put me on your 'ignore' list cuz I'm gonna be a full-fledged Caro fan next year.Unlike other gals whom we won't mention:angel:,I consider her a quality PERSON(and Ree and millions of others agree with me:)),and a rivalry between Ana and Caro would be awesome for women's tennis. Can you imagine how huge the WTA would be with Serena,Kim,Ana and Caro as frequent opponents in big tournament semifinals? The popularity would skyrocket...if you're lucky, your Siberian sweetie:p will snag a few titles, too. If Fed retired, the boring,no-depth ATP would go bankrupt from lack of sponsorship with lonely champ Rafa waiting for competition:lol:

She'll make the sport better? Oh hell, I'm going to start calling you Mary Carillo from now on, okay? Better yet, let's call you Sven :wavey:Wow,calling me 'Sven' is a REAL insult:lol:...but I forgive you:angel:

Let me simplify:We don't need to like the same players, but I think you're wasting lots of emotional energy hating someone for such an arbitrary reason. To me,hating Caroline for her counter-punching style is as dumb as hating Ana for her 'Ajdes'...or someone hating the WS b/c of their skin color.Your hatred has blinded you to the fact that even some of Caro's detractors admit that she is attacking more...and her increased 'winners' total proves that...hope you don't believe in that 'Tennis Gods' crap:lol:

Anyway, you're too educated to fall for some of that moronic bullshit...sponsors contact the celebrity and ASK him/her to shill their products....Neither Ana or Caro(or anyone else)goes pandering with her team around corporate HQs and asks,"Excuse me,may I endorse your products,please?"...and I don't even think that JJ would waste her time attempting to 'steal' Ana's sponsors....sorry,Doni;THAT part is stupid even by GM standards. If you catch your breath and think for a sec, you'll see how Caro didn't waste a second sitting in loser Verdasco's box when Nadal was kicking his ass for the millionth time...some red-hot romance,huh?:haha:...in Nando's dreams,maybe...yet another mega-stupid accusation that an Ana fan should be wary of after all the empty words that've been thrown at Ana.Even more pertinent is that Caroline's best tennis friends are the Radwanskas,Azarenka and Serena,apparently....NONE of whom are especially tight with Ana

Even if Caroline lost her sanity for a bit and abased herself by being FV's whore, how in the freakin' hell would that give a sane person any pleasure?Do you see her dyeing her hair the same color...styling her hair the same way...wearing the same dress...or,most of all, using the same playing style?....disliking a style of play is your inalienable right as a sports fan,Chocolate Drop, but the accusation that Caroline is scheming to 'copy' Ana is COLOSSALLY stupid. You could match that up with the charge that Ana is a disrespectful witch who shouts 'Ajde' in order to taunt and distract her opponents...and then you could just flip a coin cuz the two accusations are EQUALLY stupid:p

But aye WILL honor your request and not challenge you anymore when you go into all-out Playa-hata Mode,okay?:smooch:....oh,and Al Davis is a plague who will hopefully retire into a nursing home soon,so good luck vs. the Raiders tomorrow:hatoff:

It is extremely obvious to everyone that she is mimicking Ana, and she has even kind of hinted at it. It was more obvious during their Beijing match. If you don't wanna see it, or you don't wanna believe it, it's fine with me. But it doesn't mean it's right just because you don't think it. Wow,calling me 'Sven' is a REAL insult:lol:...but I forgive you:angel:

Hating on the Pusher b/c of her gameplay is similar to someone hating on the WS because of their skin color?!! :spit:

That's hilarious that you don't believe the Pusher can ask companies to be their sponsor. She probably solicits them!

And Bruce, I don't understand your last paragraph...AT ALL,

It's a mortal sin to not like Woz, didn't you know? :p

Mortal sin my ass, :rolls:

Ana is no longer with the Adidas Development Program. She left it at the beginning of the year to begin working with Heinz Hunthardt. And hopefully she doesn't return. Ana needs a coach with her full time and continue to do what Heinz did, which is keep things simple and stay with the basics. Sven and APDP tinkered with her game and it screwed her up.

Optimistic as always Izzy

I wouldn't be too worried. It's good that she's working in Mallorca - the climate there would get her ready for Australia. It's really hot inside the arena for Hopman Cup, to begin with. And there are a lot of great coaches on Mallorca anyway, that she used to train with as well. It might even be good if she's trained to play the Spanish way - inside-out forehand after inside-out forehand and then change direction. It's a good style of play for Ana.

It's really cold in Mallorca now.. it's winter! I hardly think it would help her heat preparation.

And will she practice with one of the Vilas Academy's coaches? Not sure.. Still.. she needs a coach for herself.. not someone helping temporarily.. for that she was better off with Heinz.

She was there for a bit of the 2008 off season, coachless, just like now.. and we all know how that turned out. Ana came up in 2009 playing 10 times worse than the end of 2008. It seems she is doing the same thing now.. I wonder if she ever learns from past mistakes.. :banghead:

Was she practicing with Vilas Academy or something though? My impression was that she spent that off-season making out with Verdasco. Then she came back and said she had been working on 'stepping inside the court'. Then started playing pusher. The difference with what's happening now, IMO, is that she's actually committed to working hard now, so she wouldn't delude herself as much now.

Well.. she was there hitting balls.. I know her attitude seems a LOT better now, and that alone should make a big difference from the 2008 off season.. but still.. she should be surrounding herself of the best conditions to improve, so she can erase 2009 and 2010 and finally have another high level season. Instead she is practing in the cold, without a coach. Great! :yeah:

Agreed guys!

I think the Fed Cup environment became way too hostile towards Ana after the Russia tie. I've never seen Ana so honest, direct and hurt about something in interviews as she was when asked about Fed Cup. She clearly said, a number of times, that there was no team spirit and the environment was awful.

I also think that tie against Russia was a trauma to her. She got really really down after that. I'm not sure she would feel ready to play in Serbia again. Besides all that, it's against Canada, and Serbia should win anyway.

I would totally support Ana not playing Fed Cup ever again.. what happened with JJ and her mom was just too much and too ofensive. Imagine in the backstage! But she will have to play eventually, for Olympic purposes.

I love Ana's attitude here. I would rather see her play Pattaya anyday over Fed Cup anyday. Get that ranking higher so she can be a higher seed in the tournaments that follow. Plus, lets see if SWP can carry the team on her own. She loves the attention, now it's all to herself.

I wonder how her schedule will look like for clay season. Will she play Fed Cup in april?

So far, her schedule for the first 3 months of 2011 should be something like this:

Hopman Cup
Sydney
AO
Pattaya
Dubai
Doha
IW
Miami

Then I'm not sure.. Here are the tournaments for April/May:

Charleston/Marbella
Fed Cup
Stuttgart/Fes
Barcelona/Estoril
Madrid
Rome
Brussels/Strasbourg
RG

So.. My doubt is if she will play Fed Cup and Stuttgart.. or get some time to practice on clay and then play 3 straight weeks.. like Barcelona/Madrid/Rome/week off/RG.

Ana has a great chance to get points in February. Will have to do well though.. To add relevant points, she needs to get to at least the QFs of Pattaya and Doha, and the 3rd round of Dubai.

But if she does well, can make a push for top 10/15. She must have that in sight.

The most important stretch will be IW/Miami though. Both are mandatory tournaments, so Ana's results from last year count towards her rankings no matter what. If she makes a good result or 2 there, she can really rise up the rankings.

He was coaching Na Li before, so Sharapova probably came up with the better offer and he went for it.

EDIT: It would look sooo much better without the zipper!

I was thinking.. with Ana playing Pattaya and not Fed Cup.. where does that leave Marija? We all know that Marija works/worked as the fitness coach of the Fed Cup team.. will she continue? Will she have to be in Novi Said and then Pattaya as well? mmm..

Ana's newsletter just arrived in the email.

Welcome to the anaivanovic.com 2010 year end newsletter. Here you will find a summary of what I have been up to over the last couple of months, and what the coming weeks have in store

What a weekend it was for Serbia and Serbian tennis. I'm so happy that I was able to make it to Belgrade Arena to watch the victory over France. I will write more about it on my website soon.

That was the last event of the season - I hope you won't miss tennis too much! It's no secret that I'd have been happy if the season hadn't finished when it did, because I ended it so well. But at the same time I was able to have a very nice holiday, just doing regular things like having coffee and dinners with friends, and visiting my grandparents.

I was in London for much of my holiday, then I visited my family in Belgrade. I took part in a great event with UNICEF – it was a hectic trip, as usual.

Looking back on the year, there were some very difficult moments during the first half. At times it was so frustrating, because I was training so well, beating some top players in practice but not achieving the results.

Eventually I learned to relax a lot more and not put so much pressure on myself. I also got a lot fitter during the European summer, and when I arrived in Stanford in July I was confident that I would achieve some good results quite soon.

Thankfully, I had a little bit of a turning point in Cincinnati by coming back against Azarenka, and I played some of my best tennis there. It was obviously very disappointing to get injured against Clijsters in the semis, and at that moment I wasn’t sure I’d be fit for the US Open. In the end, I was satisfied with the progress I made in North America.

There were definitely setbacks in Asia after that, but Beijing was another important, positive tournament, and changing my plans in order to play Linz was one of the best decisions I made this year.

I felt good on the court from the moment I arrived, and it was cool to win the tournament without dropping a set. I’d played a lot of tennis in four weeks, and I didn’t have as much energy as I would have liked in Luxembourg, but after a short rest period, I kind of picked up in Bali where I had left off in Austria.

This gives me a lot of confidence heading into the new season. I’m currently without a coach, but I have some options and I’m considering everything very carefully. I would rather wait for the right coach than just appoint someone for the sake of it.

Off the court it was also an interesting and eventful season. This was the first year of my long-term agreement with adidas, and I loved the dress they made me for the end of the season in particular.

Another very important decision I made concerned my racket, and changing to the Yonex EZONE in August definitely helped my game.

I have been asked many times already what my goals are for next year. Obviously I would like to return to the top 10, but my biggest goal is to win another Grand Slam.

Love,

Ana

Ana's newsletter just arrived in the email.

Thanks Curtis! Just saw it on my mail as well!

Pretty good newsletter.. the only part that bothered me was this one:

At times it was so frustrating, because I was training so well, beating some top players in practice but not achieving the results.

:banghead:

Stop saying you were beating top players in practice!! Like that matters much! Practice is a place they would be tinkering with their games, being more relaxed.. it has nothing to do with actually playing well. :tape::help:

And this part:

I’m currently without a coach, but I have some options and I’m considering everything very carefully. I would rather wait for the right coach than just appoint someone for the sake of it.

This is like saying: "All coaching candidates I have suck, so I rather be alone than pick one of them." Great.. NOT! :o

Anyway.. the newsletter was a very good overall balance of the year. I like how she recognizes there were setbacks in Asia, but that she could ride on the positive moments and end the year very well. Hopefully 2011 only brings joy and celebration for Ana and all of us!

Hmm, it's important to train hard but I hope she isn't over training...she's done that before and she got injured. So long as she is getting good rest, that's good news :p

Ana should have a coach soon. I like the working so hard she crashes thing. I doubt in the 2009 off-season she would've been able to say such a thing.

I think at the moment Top 10 again is a better goal than another slam. She hasn't really established herself as a slam contender again yet. I think top 10 again should be her 2011 goal while another slam should be her 2012 goal. If you're thinking realistically.

I'm a little worried about the new season, especially because of what I saw in Bali. :scared: She won the tournament by going all pusher against players who couldn't hit her off the court because of their 1) lack of consistency or 2) lack of power but it won't cut it against the top-flight players. She needs the power back in her game, and she had that in USO and Beijing.

I think she was more defensive ,pusher bc of the court. That kind of fast court doesn`t suit Ana`s game at all
But i`m also little worried about the new season

Yeah I agree it was more because of the court.

Ana's new coach is Antonio van grichen. Currently working together on a trial basis. I think he is a good hire. Good resume and good coach.

He's a good coach, I'm not sure how well they'll match up though. We'll see..

I don't even know what to say.

Van Grichen is not so bad.. but not so good either. He really only took Vika out of juniors and into top 10. But that was a player he brought up in the game.. What can he do with an adult, all formed player? And will they match up personality wise? I mean.. Ana is stubborn as hell and he doesn't strike me as the most non chalant guy.. then again, he had to put up with a lot of Vika temper tantrums, and Ana is an angel compared to that. What can he add to her game though? This is a guy who doesn't have the experience to coach slam champions, Ana will have to teach him some as well. So can he be the one to take her to the next step? I'm just not sure of what to think.

Interesting to note that Van Grichen coached Ana's BFF Sorana Cirstea for a few weeks this year.. but they parted ways when he had a serious cervical problem and had to leave the tour to go heal it.

Will he tweet about Ana? He used to be quite active on twitter, but has been rather silent in the past month or so.

I guess Ana was telling the truth when she said all the guys who she really wanted to work with were wither unavailable or unable to travel full time. I can only hope this partnership works out great and we can see the results!

I guess we can at least be happy Ana didn't choose that prick Sven suggested. :tape:

Hey Ben!

I'm also pretty worried about next season. I have absolutely no idea how Ana is going to show up playing. And not only because of the Bali tournament.. who knows how this off season is going!

As for Bali.. yes.. she was a pusher. But.. I'm trying to think of it in another light. The quick court with low bounces doesn't suit Ana's game at all.. if she kept up with it, she would probably hit everything out. She was able to adapt, see the circunstances and the players she was up against, and adapt her game to one that was going to bring her the win, just play for the win. And that's crucial for any top player, winning even when the conditions are against you. Have the win in sight and be able to see what's going on on court and adapt.

But obviously.. that's a game that won't cut it against real top players.. and there lies the danger. Ana has to know that and know that her A game, the powerful game, will be needed to make the next step and beat those players, compete at the top. If she knows it, works to make her A game better, and use the adapt card, then she can be in a good position. If she doesn't know it, and resort to pushing, then she is toast. She has to be aware that she is a powerful player and that's the game that will take her back to the top.

Who knows though? Ana is rather unpredictable to me.. so I'm worried as well.

Van Grichen isn't bad, and at least she has a coach. Usually they announce these appointments about a few weeks after they start, so she probably has been working with him for a while. So not a coachless off-season, always a plus.

One thing though - I hope Ana doesn't pick up Vika's habit of rolling her 1st serves in to get a high percentage :tape:
