It's so funny when the British commentators talk about money as the motivation for injured/burn out players like Jelena and Elena playing the YEC?

As if they need $100,000.

Elena's motivation most definitely isn't money.
As for Jelena, I have no idea what's in her head (if there's anything at all). She's one puzzling girl.

I really don't understand your point. I'd pick up $5 if I found them on the street (), let alone $100,000 for showing up and playing a few sets at a prestigious tournament I EARNED my place at. Jelena DESERVED that money and if she's not injured, and she isn't, she should just take it. She's not a charity to just give that money away to some other "top" player who couldn't even have a better season than a subpar Jelena.

Dunno. Someone even opened a thread here about which season was worse for JJ, 2009 and 2010, and it still hard for me to say. But this season annoyed me more overall - Wozniacki thrashing everyone (left) in the last several tournaments is a bit too much for me. Vera was maybe the only player I liek who did well, but then again, all she won was Pattaya - a bit like JJ's clay season, all those nice performances and wins and not a single title.
I'm really looking forward to the winter break...

Considering how much money she already has in the bank, being humilliated 3 and 0 at a tournament for the best players isn't worth $100,000 imo

And she might be injured but she's clearly not 100%.

Well, you're a disgusting cheap little miser, not an Empress. :p
It's ok if she wants to collect the money, but the least she could do is try. It's not her fault if she can't play better ATM, but it is if she's dragging herself around the court annoyed that her opponent isn't playing better so that she could get away sooner. It's cheap and embarrassing.

Same :o At least she hasn't won a slam though.

And Marion's year was pretty poor.

Patty's resurgance in the last few months was nice for me- the loss at the US open after having a match point.

Some of the British players have done well.

Dementieva and Petrova have both had pretty standard seasons.

My five favourite players are all 25+ and with the young generation not showing much promise, I don't know what I'm going to do in a few years time :help:

And she might be injured but she's clearly not 100%.

But the key word is prestigious. Jelena is a former #1 and a current top 8 player - a true top player. She's not playing like one NOW, but NOW is not really the point of YEC entry system. Just being there is worth money. It's a reward for a good season.

I don't agree, Zoja, that Jelena didn't try hard. She was fighting very hard in that 1st set. It's just that she's not in form, physically and mentally, to play better than that at the moment.

Well, if you're trying to win a mtennis match, or at least make it competitive, the least you should do is run a little. The first set was so long only because Vera was also pretty bad.

"I am still suffering from an illness that affected me last week and I had medical treatment after the match today when I received an IV," Jankovic said. "I had difficulty breathing during the match, felt dizzy and tingling and felt like I didn't have any power. I finished the match but I had a really hard time. There were moments I felt I was going to give up but I was able to push through."

To be honest just seeing her win a few games is as much as we can expect from her these days but she exceeded my expectations, in part thanks to many gifts from Kim, and towards the end I got the feeling she was starting to enjoy playing tennis again.

Yes agree. And that overrule was brilliant. Didn't really mind her losing to Kim. Expected anyway.

But now just one more match now. If Jelena could just come up with something to beat Shrieka Basharenka. Just can't stand someone making that ridiculous noise like she does.

She's going to win three slams next year. She might even get past the 4th round at Wimbledon:bowdown:.

Yes, the 31st, 39th and 44th slams (Mirabella, Bad Gastein, and Osaka).

It was also nice when players like Kim and JJ don't make noise. It's so rare these days:lol:

I was really worried for JJ but now i think she will be fine in 2011 just need to recover from illness. Nobody can not compete and win matches on this level if you are not healthy.

I think she will use this event to regain motivation she lost

I think JJ has a shot against Vika. You never with Vika. She's either going to be in Moscow winning form, or drop dead right on the court.

At least with JJ, you know she's going to stay upright until she gets off court. So she's 1 up already.

Hard to watch. Only a shadow of the JJ we all love to watch. Only at very few times her true level appears. Her consistency is completely lost. The match is not over yet, but for me Doha is already a complete waste of time. I'd wished she never appeared there, because her current state of form is far away from what she can do. Atm she is not even a worthy TOP 10er.

I really hope the next season will be much better, because for me it was her worst saison since early 2006.

You know, I once was one of those who tried to stay positive all the time. Even in the dark hours, when she lost a big match etc. But at the moment it is truly hard to be positive again. Over and over again I tried. I think I will be a supporter until the end of her career, but my hopes for her to win big are really shattered. I never saw her making some true progress. Something was always wrong when it came down to win the BIG thing. And with all the years watching her standing still and not really making progress, it became more and more only wishful thinking instead of true believing that she can win a GS. And god, I was a true believer for so long. And that makes it really hard for me, because I think she totally headed into the wrong direction. She is not the Jelena anymore, the one I learned to loved. God knows how much I was emotionally involved in her matches. I can honestly say I gave my heartblood. At the moment I watch her matches almost without emotions and this is weird for me. But I cannot deny it, you know. I hope there will be better times for Jelena, but she is the one who must make the right steps. I'm tired of sounding like a record with a big scratch you now.

My hopes are shattered....but not 100% dead yet. Let us hope for the very best.

GO JJ:bounce:I know what your saying but after seeing her pathetic matches recently at last I am starting to enjoy watching her lose. We knew she probably would not win given her current form and health but today her game was beautiful. If you like tennis then you surely have to enjoy some of her beautiful, precise and powerful tennis. This was a different JJ going for everything as she was not fit and I loved it. Surely you noticed that her volleying was better than I can remember it? She was playing a good player and she made a match of it even though she was not feeling well. Give her some credit! This match proved she has the game to compete if she can just stay healthy and get back her confidence.

I can't think of a good enough excuse, unless she already flew home. Sad. But I knew that if she was there, she'd be the only one on the court with dry eyes, and that would just make her look like a bitch, so maybe it's for the better.

She is not the Jelena anymore, the one I learned to loved. God knows how much I was emotionally involved in her matches. I can honestly say I gave my heartblood.

I agree that JJ's changed the last few years...she's not the always smiling, happy girl on court and off that she was back in 2007, even. I liked that JJ.

But players are people, and people change. Gotta change with them--and I'd be lying if I said that JJ, even with how much she tortures me and everyone else, is still my favorite WTA player by miles and miles--and that won't change, even when she inevitably retires.

Oh you know- it's like her off-season training routine - she ALWAYS has to have summat operated on.
Maybe they will transplant a winning mentality and prescribe a year's supply of "coach" - the 500mg variety for her to take, once a day for the next 365 days.

What do you expect from next season?
- First to be injury free and improve my game, especially the backhand, he did not listen me the best in the season behind us. In the past few months I have often played ill, under a certain amount of antibiotics, but I'm sure in the future I'll return my recognizable smile on face while I'm on court. I love tennis and hard for me the inability to have fun while practicing and playing. When I was not completely healthy, then I can not give the maximum on court, so I feel denied for great fun.

You mean Lettuce Leaf Jeja? I agree, that one was pretty damn good. :hearts: I loved Wimbledon and RG though.

Yeah, Lettuce Leaf , only I prefer the name Ana fans' gave it. You should put together a pic of ALL Jeja's Anta dresses (2009 & 2010). Make a rainbow out of it.

I was counnting the result a bit... and she's in big minus... lol

But definitly she is the Empress, as all we know.

So many people are putting her in the disliked list  There's no reason to dislike JaJa.

She doesn't mock her opponents on court theatrics, she's never taken suspect injury-timeouts, she doesn't talk trash, she isn't an attention seeker, and she never complains. She is perfect :inlove:

Sommetimes I think that Jelena and Ana remind me on Scooby- and Scrappy-doo.
JJ got some of scooby's voice, sommetimes.
Anyway, Ana has that super puppy-power.
But maybe I'm under the stress these days.

^ well, it is very possible.
I think it kind of 50-50% in general( 50% like it both), TF isn't some good parameter.

Well, in my surrounding it's either Jaja or AIde. And most of people who like AIde love her just because she is pretty. Why do people like puppy-faced girls with oversized, empty heads and stupid, giggly, hollow laughter? I don't get it.

I'm a fan of both, but the hate from the Ana thread to JJ is just ridiculous. So many AnaKADs are putting JJ as #1 on the most disliked--really, haters?

I'd be upset, but IDGAF about the results of this poll

Not really true, IMO. Not in the way you put it at least. Yes, both fanbases dislike the other player and show it, but Ana's fanbase is MUCH worse 'cos there's no humor whatsoever and they get offended to death just 'cos someone doesn't like Ana as that's incomprehensible to them. Of course, there are exceptions in both fanbases, but as a whole - no, both fanbases are NOT as bad as eachother.

Spot on.

They have no humour. Which is ironic, because the tournaments Ana wins are a joke.
