AGNIESZKA:

Toray Pan Pacific Open - Tokyo - PREMIER 5 - Main Draw
China Open - Bejing - PREMIER MANDATORY - Main Draw
Generali Ladies Linz - Linz - INTERNATIONAL - Main Draw
Kremlin Cup - Moscow - PREMIER - Main Draw

ULA:

Hansol Korea Open - Seoul - INTERNATIONAL - Main Draw <SR>
Toray Pan Pacific Open - Tokyo - PREMIER 5 - Quallies <WC>
Rakuten Japan Open - Tokyo - 100+H ITF CHALLENGER - Quallies <no SR>
Generali Ladies Linz - Linz - INTERNATIONAL - Main Draw Alternate <no SR>
BGL Luxembourg Open - Luxembourg - INTERNATIONAL - Main Draw Alternate (5 out of MD) <SR>

Maybe at least the happy ending of the season  Ula didn't enter Linz with SR but Aga is a top seed and the biggest star in the field there so I guess they negotiated the WC for Ula.

Aga has a LOT of points to defend here. Hopefully she'll manage to do it to some extent at least...
and I don't even dare to hope for a title in Linz :tape:

As for Ula I'm looking forward for those Int. events. She can get some very needed wins there. Good luck :)

Aga presented as biggest underachiever

Tennis Players With Big-Stage Frigh

The Daily Fix HOME PAGE »

By Carl Bialik

Away from Grand Slam courts over the past year, David Ferrer is among the best players in the world, nearly as effective as 16-time Grand Slam champ Roger Federer. At major tournaments, he’s almost a nonentity. He hasn’t reached a quarterfinal in over two years, and he’s reached just one Grand Slam semifinal in his career despite entering 20 major tournaments ranked in the Top 20. Of those 20 tournaments, he’s lost to a lower-ranked player 17 times

Some players treat every point of every tour event like match point at Wimbledon’s Centre Court. Others use the tour events as tune-ups, practicing and working out kinks in their games while conserving energy and seemingly caring little about winning matches, let alone titles. The result is that rankings, which dictate seedings at tournaments, often don’t reflect how well players play on the biggest stages, when the sport is attracting its biggest audiences.

The most extreme example among Top 20 men and women is Serena Williams. Even before her recent foot injury, which kept her out of several tour events and the U.S. Open, Williams played few WTA events, and didn’t do much at the ones she entered. Among the Top 20 women, she ranks 13th in points at events outside the Grand Slams. More than two thirds of her ranking points come from majors, the highest proportion of any woman in that group and just behind Juan Martin del Potro, who has been injured for much of the time since he won last year’s U.S. Open. Since Williams won at Charleston in April 2008, she has won five majors, a tour championship (which by ranking points is three quarters of a major) — and no other tour events.

The anti-Williams is No. 10 Agnieszka Radwanska, who has the fourth-most points at non-majors in the last year, but hasn’t reached a major quarterfinal and was upset in the second round in Flushing this week.

Though he enters many more events, Federer is, like Williams, a veteran who focuses on the biggest events. Despite failing to reach the semifinals at the last two majors after 23 straight, Federer still has gotten 54% of his ranking points from majors over the last year, the highest proportion among Top 20 men after Del Potro. At all other events over the last year, Federer has just the fourth-most points among Top 20 players, and is barely ahead of a group of five other men, including Ferrer.

Ferrer is the biggest underachiever at majors — or overachiever at other events, depending on how you look at it — in the men’s Top 15, and third-biggest in the Top 20, behind Ivan Ljubicic and Marcos Baghdatis, both of whom kept to form by exiting the Open in first-round upsets. Ferrer, though, has advanced to the third round, and has a favorable draw to reach a quarterfinal — where he’d likely face countryman Rafael Nadal, who is No. 1 in both ranking points at majors and away from majors.

She is on the entry list, currently 18 out of MD :)

I've just seen it's a joint tournament with ATP 500 (eg. Nadal will play there)

So it's strange she chose Linz over Osaka. In Osaka with her SR she would be directly in MD. And it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay closer than Austria.

So it's strange she chose Linz over Osaka. In Osaka with her SR she would be directly in MD. And it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay closer than Austria.

She said in one interview that she wanted to save some opportunities to play with SR for the next season and after US Open she wanted to use only one or two SR (I guess she chose Seoul and Luxembourg). I think that in Linz she has a big chance of getting WC because Agnieszka will also play there, maybe Radwanska's team are trying to get her WC there as you mentioned in the 1st post ;)

Z US Open wróciła z zapaleniem ścięgna palca wskazującego i w specjalistycznej klinice przeszła operację.

- By wyleczyć uraz, z pewnością potrzeba więcej czasu, niż ma go Radwańska.

19-letnia Urszula w przeciwieństwie do starszej siostry jeszcze nigdy nie przegrała z zajmującą 24. miejsce w rankingu WTA Rosjanką (zwycięstwa w Birmingham i New Haven).

Just to report, Uala was great today at the net - such good half volleys she has. :) Also some good droshots and backhands down the line. But still many UEs at the other things. Makiri's first serve brought her a lot of points today. Ula's serve is still not there. ;) She must practise a lot.

Now she's gonna play Tokyo Pan Pacific (Premier 5) quallies and Tokyo Japan Open (100+H Challenger) quallies. Matches should be easier and she could gain some points. ;)

lol i don't get those ppl, so why is she exactly going to play if she has such a severe, life-threatening injury so she will play on one leg with a good chance - according to the doctor - that because of this she won't be back on court for a very long time?

Wozniacki, the No.1 seed, built a 5-0 lead when No.6 seed Agnieszka Radwanska was forced to retire from their match with a left foot injury.

"I'm very disappointed to have to withdraw. I wanted to fight but I was in a lot of pain," Radwanska said. "Caroline and I are very good friends and she's playing so well. She's too good to play when you have an injury. I'm hoping to play Beijing next week because it's a big event and I really want to be there."

"Aga is a good friend of mine so I'm sorry she had to retire. I hope she'll be okay," Wozniacki said. "I was so focused on my own game I didn't pay too much attention to the other side of the net. I was playing really good tennis and I'm happy to reach the semifinals. It's not going to be easy against Azarenka."

I hoped that Ula may make MD in Tokyo, but now I think it's better that she will play Q, 2 relatively easy (i think so) matches to warm-up before MD. Ula needs a lot of match-practice, if I may say so ;), to find a good form.

Had a few time this weekend to see Aga's match against Wozniacki and honestly it did look quite good (considering all the physical limitations, of course)... Her movement was visibly hampered and that's what was making the difference. I really believe that, had she played perfectly fit, Wozniacki would have had a lot of trouble to come up with a win... Let's just hope her foot heals quickly!

Some nice head games by Ula

Sprem/Radwanska : the match of the day. Bitching all the way by both girls. Sprem decided Radwanska was not hitting hard enough during the warm up, so K-Lina was basically sending bombs on the lines, not allowing Radwanska to hit back. Of course, Ula went and bitched to the umpire, talking about Sprem as if she couldn't hear, which she could since she answered something in Croatian I guess, her coach being dead laughing.
When the match eventually started, that was a error-fest from Karolina, who basically decided to hit as hard as she could absolutely everything. Radwanska was laughing at Sprem's occasional HUGE errors/HUGE grunts. As you can imagine, no handshake at the end, and Sprem throwing her racket bag violently to her coach, and violently texting on her cellphone.

Another good report
Laura's serve was awful today, she got broken each time at 4*-5 in each set. Radwanska was more agressive than yesterday - well, she had to, because Laura's strategy was clearly to play softer balls, high balls, directed on to the backhand of Radwanska. A lot of dropshots from Urszula, just like her sister often does. Radwanska's serve was much better than yesterday as well.

Considering that Riske is on fire..I guess it's acceptable :o

Hopefully next tournament she win one more match :)

Well, not much to say about the final. Riske was AGAIN the most calm girl on Earth, never panicking when Radwanska was playing very solid tennis in the opening stages of the match. Riske was serving much much better than in the previous matches, which helped her holding the tight games. She found an amazing return games at 5-4* to take the set, hitting 3 winner returns in a row. Radwanska was disgusted after the match and was moaning on her phone even before the trophy ceremony. You gotta love her character.
Alison celebrated in a shy way after the match point, and then pretended she fell asleep with the trophy on her arms on her bench after the trophy ceremony. :inlove: How cute!

Ula tomorrow plays vs. Angelique vd Meet (NED) [384] on centre court about 11.10 polishe time.
If she win, she plays vs. Tanja Ostertag (GER) [573] or Kateryna Kozlova (UKR) [379] on centre court too, about 16.00 (not before 15.00).

I hope Ula will play doubles with Linette :hearts:

Interview with Ula but in German. Can anyone translate? :p

At the end of the last year you were number 66 in the world and in this tournament you are numer 273 in the world and you need to play qualifying. What is the reason of this setback and how did you survive it?

In January this year I had a back injury and therefore I needed to have my spine operated in March. Because of that I needed to have a 6 month break in play, which caused the drop in the ranking. I was back fit not before the US Open and I could have even reached the 2nd round there.

Is it not frustrating to have to play again in the small torurnaments?

Of course it is dissapointing to come back to the ITF tournaments after 2 years during which I could finally play in WTA tournaments. Because of that I try to gain as fast as possible a lot of points to get back to the Top100.

What are your plans for the next season regarding tournament schedule and position in the ranking?

My goals are Top100, which I would preferably like to reach at the beginning of the next year, and after that to be able to take part in the big tournaments again.

In October you played in another 50k tournament and defeated even a player who was ranked 110. What can the fans expect from you in Ismaning and how do you rate yourself?

It was cool to reach the final, which I could also imagine/picture (?) well (dunno how to tranlate this previous sentence, so that it would be understandable, so sorry), because thanks to my experience from WTA tournaments I know how I have to play against Top100 players.

You have been offically a Tour Pro for 5 years. Are you satisfied with what you've achived as for now? Is it accordant to what you've expected/imagined?

After 3 years on the professional tour I reached the Top100. At that time, when I was 18, I was happy about it. However it was a tough road to get to that place that time, during which I had to beat a lot of other players in the smaller tournaments.

(...)

I don't have more time today to tranlate the rest, so if sb wants, he/she may finish the translation ;)

Sorry for mistakes, but I haven't checked it and I tend to make a lot of mistakes ;)

Interview from 08.11.2010 r.:

Interview with Ula

Na przełomie października i listopada wystąpiła w dwóch turniejach ITF. We francuskim Saint Raphael przegrała w finale z Amerykanką Alison Riske, a w niemieckim Ismaning zdobyła tytuł.

Jarosław K. Kowal: Pewnie wolałaby pani, by sezon trwał...

Musi pani w turniejach niższej rangi zdobywać punkty, by wrócić do czołowej setki rankingu.

W Ismaning była też m.in.

- Spokojnie, to były zawody o puli nagród 50 tys. dol. O to chodziło. Byłam przeszczęśliwa.

Odzyskała pani formę sprzed kontuzji?

- W 90 procentach. W czasie prawie trzygodzinnego półfinału z Kristiną Barrois czułam ból w kręgosłupie, musiałam wzywać fizjoterapeutę na pomoc. To nic alarmującego, lekarze ostrzegali mnie przed takim scenariuszem.

Monzanator
Nov 20th, 2010, 07:52 PM
I recall she was targeting Top 20 by the end of 2010 and now she claims she was only hoping for some good results at the end of it?

Anyway, she really should be back inside the Top 100 by playing all those ITF instead of trying to get through the qualies for WTA events methinks...
