I love Zina Garrison. She is so fair when she's commentating.
Also Martina N offers a lot of insight about the game. Mary Carillo is alright, but sometimes she says some weird stuff.

I love Chris Evert. She is so honest and knows so much about the current crop of players. She really talks to these women and can give us really good insight on their games and who they are as people. She is not afraid to go out on a limb as far as predictions go either, it is not like she just selects the best ranked player of each match and goes with them. And she is by far the most unbiased one of the lot.

Martina Navratilova. Of the current crop that are regularly employed in the US, she's by far the most knowledgable about the game.

Pam Shriver and Mary Joe. Like a lot of the women commentators like Virginia Wade (when she did Madison Square garden channel during the old Virginia Slims champs) she would give bud collins a hard time a lot and i loved it. Also like Tracy (i am sure to hear lots of moans and groans about that one) but i like her. Dont like patrick mcenroe at all and he's always matched up with Cliff Drysdale and they obviously hate each other. listening to those two cat scratch each other gets really old:mad:

Give me Mary Carillo and Martina Navratilova any day. Martina is the best their is, just so knowledgeable. Chrissie has lost touch with regards to the modern players. Hell I know their games better than she does. At Wimbledon, when Venus was serving at 80 percent and it was obvious she was taking quite a bit off. Chrissie " she puts everything into her serve and is not holding back anything", I liked to fell out of my chair. John McEnroe " I think Venus is holding back trying to get more first serves in". Chrissie " Oh I meant Serena is not holding back", yeah right. :(

Mary Jo Fernandez.
Mary Carillo.

Though I don't dislike the others. I think sometimes people take John McEnroe more seriously than they should. :)

Hans-Jürgen Pohmann ! :o ;) irma, I agree, Szepanski was always great, wonder where he is ?

Worst: Definitely Ralf Klinkenberg BY FAR, but Hermann Ohletz (ZDF) is awful as well. Jürgen Höthker is also going on my nerves recently.

Gerd Szepanski was my all time favourite, too. You could hear in his comments, he loved tennis, and it was not just a job.

FYG: He used to live in Sweden with wife and daughter, while being commentator for RTL. Later, he got devorced and moved back to North Germany. He runs a restaurant or pub in Moelln (Schleswig-Holstein) now. I always planned to have a beer there, but never managed so far.

I were lucky to hear comments of SAM SMITH, while in Wimbledon, and I was impressed. Highly recommended.

Regretfully, we have no commentators in Germany, who are worth mentioning at all. Best to do is switch to English comments on Eurosport, if available.

Jürgen Höthker :o
that man always kissed martina's but together with heinz gunthardt. It was incredible annoying! (a commentator might be biased but there is a line)

now my sattelite snows thanks to a tree so I have to listen to dutch commentary again(not an improvement though)
we now have a commentator who always is telling us how bad the quality of the match and wta in general is :o
I think at the us open(I believe it was amelie against cappy). he got a warning, because he said I can better keep my mouth now:o;)

hans-jurgen pohmann in the worst interviewer in the world, well at least when steffi is the one he talks with! I am sure that even me who interviewed twice in my life till now would do a better job :o

I gotta agree: Martina Navratilova. Simply the best.

John McEnroe's still pretty good, but his ego's just out of control, and sometimes he tries to make the telecast more about him rather than about the match that's happening. Mary Carillo is informative 80% of the time and just a blabbermouth 20% of the time (and she gets facts mixed up quite often). Billie Jean King is also a great commentator, but she rarely seems to be on air these days. Virginia Wade seemed pretty good too, and Jana Novotna seemed promising too. I also like Pam Shriver for the women... Maybe it's only the serve-and-volleyers who make good commentators, I guess. After all, Chris Evert and Tracy Austin are pretty awful a lot of times.

And to the person who mentioned JoAnne Russell: My gosh, she was so terrible and just so mean-spirited; I could never understand why she wasn't dragged away from the broadcast booth in a strait-jacket.

Oh, does anyone remember watching the U.S. Open a few years ago when Jennifer Capriati and Iva Majoli stopped by and did guest commentary for some Martina Hingis match? That was classic. Both Jen and Iva were full of Valley Girl-speak and they sounded young and a bit airhead-ish, but they came off really cute. I remember Tracy Austin asking Jen, "What do you remember from your classic match with Monica here?" and Jennifer paused for a long while before answering, "I just remember running... a lot!" It was all pretty funny.

Jo Durie is probably my overall fave because she never gets annoying, makes good comments which are often witty and is very down-to-earth.

Sam Smith is pretty good, but occasionally overdoes the humour.

Simon Reed is good, but only if he is really into the match.

I hate most of the commentators on Sky Sports - Mark Petchey is a know-it-all, Chris Bailey is so smarmy, and that old guy is just so old-fashioned.

I do like Virginia Wade but we only get to hear her once a year and same for John Barrett.

Pam and Mac the same.

Chris Evert's voice is so piercing a have to turn the TV off.

Anabel Croft is funny, but never seems to be on anymore.

I want to thank all of you who picked me as your fave!

The rest of you can ROT IN HELL!!!

I KID!!!

Seriously though, outside of myself (humor and looks Pam has it all!!!) I enjoy Mac and Carillo. I also like Mac and Chrissie together though I can do without Chrissie on her own. Mac and Chrissie always seem to have sexual tension going on, like they dated or...well..."dated" (Lord knows I wouldn't put it past those two horndogs!!!).

I wish my TV has an option to turn the commentators' sound off, so i don't have to listen to them. They're often crap, bias, useless and stupid.
