View Full Version : Who will bail on L.A.?

It seems like many players are taking some time off, injuries, burn-out, whatever. It's that time of year.

I have a suspicion not just Martina Hingis will miss L.A. Who do you think, of the Top 15 or so, will not end up going to L.A. I have a sneaky suspicion we won't see Venus, and I don't think she will be the only one.

I think it is strange that Venus has said she will play. It doesn't seem to be an event she places much importance on, she has missed it the last few years for example, and if she is tired and wanted to recuperate the best thing would have been to pull out the rest of the year like Hingis, otherwise Venus will be in full training again around now for one event. Same goes for Seles who has struggled with a foot injury and would be better off resting.

I think Serena will play - she wants to win it for real this year. It's not the same to win an event with a walkover.

Can't think of anyone else who would skip it. Mauresmo has pulled out of Zurich so she doesn't ruin her chances of playing and Jen may skip Linz so she doesn't aggravate her ankle and risk missing the Champs.

Yeah, and we know how much Amelie enjoys playing on the West Coast :D

Seriously, she's always place a great deal of importance on making the year-end championships, but with her knee being gimpy, who knows?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Venus bail. In general, I think the younger players are more likely to show than the vets who've
"been there, done that"

The only reason I think Venus won't bail is because she has family in LA and I think she said that was the best thing about the Championships being @ Staples.

They all will ;)
We will be left with watching 20-40 ranked players.

I think it should be a really big deal that it is open to the top 16 and if you don't finish the year in the top 16 you don't play. If four people pull out then the top 4 players get a first round bye. Players that finish 17,18,19 and 20 should be given a fee to play an exhibition match.

Capriati will bail on the rest of the season...though she may show and make an early exit as usual...she would love to hit that LA nightlife her buddy Matthew Perry....but i bet they will throw a serious drunk in the 'City of Angels'...she may even do a few more strip shows!!!!

Anybody want tickets on the 11th row for $80?

I_hommeca-what day??

 You're an ass and an idiot AmonRa.

I think Venus, Jen, Seles and maybe Momo will skip the event. Venus just doesn't seem to care about the rest of 2002, and I don't expect her to be there. Jen, same thing. Momo and Seles injuries, don't know if they'll show.

With Jennifer showing absolutely no designs on the #2 ranking, I wouldn't be surprised to see Venus give it a miss.

Hingis is out, but I think the rest including Venus will show. Just my opinion.

Monica was in LA last week just to promote the event, so I doubt she's planning on skipping it. I think she withdrew from the indoor tourneys just to make sure she is healed for the LA event.

Jen has plenty of designs on the #2 ranking, she is just too far below Venus to catch her and is not playing well enough.

I expect Amelie, Kim and Lindsay to overtake Jen early next year, but if Jen can win two titles in 2003 I'll be more than happy!!! :)

Venus, Mauresmo. And Hingis of course.

Two broken legs still wouldn't stop her ;)
Venus won't play

dokic may feel so bad about how she's playing that she might just not turn up.

venus doesn't really care about it all that much usually, but who knows this year?

could capriati and mauresmo's injuries keep them away? maybe.

hingis is already out.

i think that would be about all. all the other players involved are probably wrapped about just being there.
