Jennifer Capriati 6-0 6-3Jarrett Oct 16th, 2002, 02:21 PM     Edit - I realised that I typed her last name wrong. :o Raisin Oct 16th, 2002, 02:22 PM Move over Jenn, Momo take that number 3 spot:) TatiAnnahølic Oct 16th, 2002, 02:23 PM Congrats Conchi great played you deserve it!!! :D irma Oct 16th, 2002, 02:24 PM cappy was hindered by a footinjury though! Jarrett Oct 16th, 2002, 02:25 PM what she injuried last week too? Raisin Oct 16th, 2002, 02:25 PM Originally posted by irma cappy was hindered by a footinjury though! The injury occured after the first set though. mishar Oct 16th, 2002, 02:26 PM Jennifer has never been very good indoors, but that is a really bad result -- not just losing to Conchita, but with such a score! Last year I thought she had a bad indoors season, but it looks great in comparison to this year. GoDominique Oct 16th, 2002, 02:26 PM Actually irma, she played better AFTER the 'injury' (if there was any). :p Raisin Oct 16th, 2002, 02:27 PM Originally posted by GoDominique Actually irma, she played better AFTER the 'injury' (if there was any). :p LOL carot Oct 16th, 2002, 02:28 PM congrats conchi, you deserve it  Chance Oct 16th, 2002, 02:29 PM I hope Cappy is ok Congratulations Conchita- Prove your critics wrong veryborednow Oct 16th, 2002, 02:31 PM Capriati is not known for faking injuries to get time-outs and using toilet break tactically. *cough* except Oz final *cough* The injury occured after the first set yes. No need to questions it's legitimacy seeing as (a) you don't know because (b) it wasn't your foot. Jen won't blame her loss on the injury, she doesn't do that. oggie Oct 16th, 2002, 02:34 PM Have these two played before? GoDominique Oct 16th, 2002, 02:35 PM Well, she was running like a gazelle in the 2nd set. supremeross Oct 16th, 2002, 02:36 PM While I'm not a fan of Conchita, I am happy she dismissed Jen Cap. When was the last time Jennifer got bageled in a set? If she was injured before the match why even play? Is it me or has Jennifer's game really started to trail off? I would say that its because of the long season, but she hasn't played in that many tournaments and she seems to have never really pulled it back together after the AO. maya Oct 16th, 2002, 02:37 PM I don't believe Jennifer injury was faked; but it didn't hinder her much (she moved worse just in 3 games and she WON 2 of those), she was moving great at the end of the match! It was actually bad for Conchita, bacause it was obvious it made her lose her rythem (she was 6:0, 1:0 up when it happend). Jennifer just played like she hasn't been practicing since US Open! But Conchita played good and congratulations to her! GoDominique Oct 16th, 2002, 02:37 PM I believe she was in pain at first, however it didn't really worsen her performance. (but that would have been difficult anyway:rolleyes: ) irma Oct 16th, 2002, 02:38 PM I only saw that she was taped. I can't handle to much cappy even now her outfits are decent again! cooolconchita Oct 16th, 2002, 02:42 PM supremeross - i am so pleased that conchita won today, and will move back into the top 40. the reason??? because at around march, you posted threads blasting conchita, "she should retire, blah blah blah" "she'll never beat a top player again blah blah blah" i always wondered what humble pie tastes like??? chicken???? cheesy??? let me know!! ;) Helen Lawson Oct 16th, 2002, 02:43 PM Conchita Martinez doles out the cruel, heartless bagel! Congrats to her. Tough luck for Jen, but I hope she does well in L.A.! supremeross Oct 16th, 2002, 02:51 PM Cooolconchita, I'm happy that Conchita won by DEFEATING Jennifer. It's not that I'm a fan of Conchita (and she should retire by the way), it's just that I like Capriati even less than I like Conchita, but if there had been a way for both of them to lose today, I would have been rooting for that. And as far as humble pie tasting, how about licking my ASS and answer the question for yourself. Any more question? cooolconchita Oct 16th, 2002, 02:54 PM OMG - you really ARE Hannibal Lecter!!!! :p that last post was a bit cutting - i hope i haven't touched a nerve - that is if you have any!!;) ;) ;) conchita - please retire - you have beaten the world no3, for supremeross' approval you have to beat venus and serena 6/0 6/0! Sharapower Oct 16th, 2002, 02:54 PM Maybe Cappy should take a break too. But a definitive break is all good too :p :p supremeross Oct 16th, 2002, 03:01 PM Coolconchita- I could really care less about Conchita, her record this year speaks for itself. And you haven't hit nerve, I just put my two cents in to say that I was glad that Conchita won because Jennifer lost. Nothing more, nothing less. griffin Oct 16th, 2002, 03:04 PM That's funny, because unless there's another poster with your name, you said a heck of a lot more than that you were happy Conchi won because Jennifer lost. Tough match for Jenn, but after the crap year she's had I'm happy Conchi got a chance to lay some hurt on someone else for a change. anabel Oct 16th, 2002, 03:04 PM Conchita :D !!!!!!!!!!!! Nimi Oct 16th, 2002, 03:13 PM Jenn is in crap shape  Congrats Conchita.. rated_next Oct 16th, 2002, 03:14 PM Well done Conchita ... now you gotta defeat Jelena/Alex Philbo Oct 16th, 2002, 03:17 PM coolconchita - lol, great posts re supremeross :) supreross - pathetic as usual. selesfan Oct 16th, 2002, 03:20 PM Wow! Congrats Conchita!:bounce: what_about_me Oct 16th, 2002, 03:22 PM Congrats to Conchita ;) cooolconchita Oct 16th, 2002, 03:22 PM thanks Czechfan!! treufreund Oct 16th, 2002, 03:22 PM I am soo hurt that Czechfan is ignoring me. MarcusRock Oct 16th, 2002, 03:23 PM This is 3 losses in a row for Jen. She hasn't done that since 2000. She's looking like she may be on the downslope of her bell curve. supremeross Oct 16th, 2002, 03:26 PM Czhechfan, I'm so hurt by your disapproval. Whatever will I do. cooolconchita Oct 16th, 2002, 03:36 PM ross - it's not that we dont like you - it's just you talk a load of s*i*!!! callado Oct 16th, 2002, 03:44 PM I'd like to thank Conchita Martinez for making this Wednesday morning extra special ;) Bella Oct 16th, 2002, 03:50 PM The only time I ever want players to retire is when I think of the emotional pain they have as they decline. A lot of sports fans feel that way about athletes like Pete Sampras, for example. If Pete and Conchita can handle the inevitable defeats that come–and we hope so–then all is well. What is hard to understand is why fans like supremeross do little diatribes about players not retiring. If they dislike them, why are they emotionally involved with that? I'm sorry that Jen lost and happy that Conchita won. cooolconchita Oct 16th, 2002, 04:05 PM good question bella! schris Oct 16th, 2002, 04:13 PM Congrats Conchita :D Serendy Willick Oct 16th, 2002, 04:14 PM Congrats Conchita Bad Luck Jen (very bad luck) Monica_Rules Oct 16th, 2002, 04:15 PM Well Done Conchita!:D partyzantka Oct 16th, 2002, 04:17 PM Good work, Conchita.. and good luck in next match. :) Warrior Oct 16th, 2002, 04:21 PM I expected her to lose to Conchita. But not with this score, though. Nacho Oct 16th, 2002, 04:27 PM Congrats Conchi! But please don't lose to Jelly for the 5th consecutive time :o apoet29 Oct 16th, 2002, 04:34 PM Congrats to Conchita. This is her best win in a while. I really don't know what is up with Jen. She seems to have lost the focus that burned so brightly last year. I hope that she can find her way back. supremeross Oct 16th, 2002, 04:36 PM Bella-What a fan can't have an opinion?? TSequoia01 Oct 16th, 2002, 05:08 PM Originally posted by apoet29 Congrats to Conchita. This is her best win in a while. I really don't know what is up with Jen. She seems to have lost the focus that burned so brightly last year. I hope that she can find her way back. I don't know what as happened to Jen. But it seems Serena has taken a lot of the fight from her. She seems obsessed with the Williams 24/7 which does not bode well for her concentration. mboyle Oct 16th, 2002, 05:17 PM Jennifer should have won. End of story. She is playing horribly since Wimbledon as usual. Damn Amelie for getting psychological help, cause if it were not for her, Jennifer would be fine now. Jen seems to be the type of player that looses confidence after loosing to one player. it happened last year with Justine, and she dropped a level, but it was still good enough to win a slam and beat players of Amelie's caliber. Then she had a bad day and lost to Amelie (who was playing amazing tennis), and she went down another level. She is now just a top 15 or 20 player who is going to loose to players as powerless as conchita. griffin Oct 16th, 2002, 05:43 PM I know, the nerve of her! Winning matches! chris_hall Oct 16th, 2002, 07:17 PM 1) Jennifer Doesn't Play Well on Indoor Courts 2) Jennifer hasn't had any Indoor Court warm ups, and hadn't gotten use to the court yet. 3) Jens been ill recently and hasn't played much 4) Jennifer doesn't cope well with spins, and having a oppenent like Martinez in her firs round who spins the ball all over the place and dicates points isn't going to suit Jens style. Well Played Martinex though. 1) Jen coped very well with the defeat. 2) Postive things, Jens ankle didn't seem too bad, as she carried on playing on it. 3) Jen has a new stance for serving. Sticks her back leg out quite a way before leaning into the serve. 4) Jens ball toss has imrpoved, no as much to the right, but still had a fw dodgey ones today. 5) Looked in good shape, very fit and was moving well after her njury. Lets see what she does about Linz. Venus Forever Oct 16th, 2002, 07:26 PM GREAT JOB CONCHITA!! :bounce: :bounce: spartanchris Oct 16th, 2002, 07:41 PM I was wondering if anyone can tell me what Jen said about the Williams sisters. I have noticed on a couple of theads people have mentioned she said something. Sonja Oct 16th, 2002, 07:47 PM I expected Conchita would give her trouble but never expected this score. Congratulations to Conchita and good luck to Jen on finding the form that won her so many other matches. Helen Lawson Oct 16th, 2002, 07:53 PM Jenn said that Venus and Serena were "crap" and she was going to kick their asses the next time they meet. I'M JOKING! There was an article posted, which no one is sure is authentic, where Jenn ALLEGEDLY says that Martina is the toughest player to play when she is in form, even better than the Williams sisters. Because Jenn has never beaten Venus and has not beaten Serena this year, and has beaten Martina, and elected to add the comment that Martina was not only the best, but expressly mention the Williamses as not being as tough to beat as Martina, some people viewed Jenn's comments, IF THEY WERE EVEN MADE, as sour grapes, obsession/dislike for the Williamses, jealousy, whatever. That was pretty well summed up! :wavey: Informative Oct 16th, 2002, 09:33 PM I'm really happy that Capriati LOST...again... GoConchi Oct 16th, 2002, 09:48 PM Well done Conchi. Great result. I knew you had it in you. VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!! Williams Rulez Oct 17th, 2002, 09:09 AM Well done Conchita... that's quite an amazing thrashing... :D domingo2 Oct 20th, 2002, 03:46 PM In reading some of the posts between 'coolconchita' and 'supremeross' I have been LMAO. Both of you make excellent points. Conchita Martinez has proven that she can still play with the top players in the world. I think she probably would still be able to beat a few others in the top ten on clay. But let's be honest-Conchita will NEVER have a tourney with 3 wins over 3 top ten players again. At best-she is now a C+ player. If Conchita is not washed up-she's certainly in the rinse cycle. I wouldn't feel comfortable betting good money on her in a tier III let alone a Grand Slam. But she has given us great matches, like her win over Hingis to eventually win Berlin, her Wimbledon championship run, her first 6 wins @ the French Open 2000, her match against Venus @ the 1999 Chase Championships, etc. As long as Conchita has as many fans as she still appears to have and stays healthy, I think she should play as long as she likes. | |
