Jennifer has never been very good indoors, but that is a really bad result -- not just losing to Conchita, but with such a score! Last year I thought she had a bad indoors season, but it looks great in comparison to this year.

Actually irma, she played better AFTER the 'injury' (if there was any). :p

The injury occured after the first set yes. No need to questions it's legitimacy seeing as (a) you don't know because (b) it wasn't your foot.

Jen won't blame her loss on the injury, she doesn't do that.

Well, she was running like a gazelle in the 2nd set.

While I'm not a fan of Conchita, I am happy she dismissed Jen Cap. When was the last time Jennifer got bageled in a set? If she was injured before the match why even play? Is it me or has Jennifer's game really started to trail off? I would say that its because of the long season, but she hasn't played in that many tournaments and she seems to have never really pulled it back together after the AO.

I don't believe Jennifer injury was faked; but it didn't hinder her much (she moved worse just in 3 games and she WON 2 of those), she was moving great at the end of the match! It was actually bad for Conchita, bacause it was obvious it made her lose her rythem (she was 6:0, 1:0 up when it happend).

Jennifer just played like she hasn't been practicing since US Open! But Conchita played good and congratulations to her!

I believe she was in pain at first, however it didn't really worsen her performance. (but that would have been difficult anyway:rolleyes: )

I only saw that she was taped. I can't handle to much cappy even now her outfits are decent again!

Cooolconchita, I'm happy that Conchita won by DEFEATING Jennifer. It's not that I'm a fan of Conchita (and she should retire by the way), it's just that I like Capriati even less than I like Conchita, but if there had been a way for both of them to lose today, I would have been rooting for that.

Coolconchita- I could really care less about Conchita, her record this year speaks for itself. And you haven't hit nerve, I just put my two cents in to say that I was glad that Conchita won because Jennifer lost. Nothing more, nothing less.

That's funny, because unless there's another poster with your name, you said a heck of a lot more than that you were happy Conchi won because Jennifer lost.

Tough match for Jenn, but after the crap year she's had I'm happy Conchi got a chance to lay some hurt on someone else for a change.

The only time I ever want players to retire is when I think of the emotional pain they have as they decline. A lot of sports fans feel that way about athletes like Pete Sampras, for example. If Pete and Conchita can handle the inevitable defeats that come–and we hope so–then all is well. What is hard to understand is why fans like supremeross do little diatribes about players not retiring. If they dislike them, why are they emotionally involved with that?

I'm sorry that Jen lost and happy that Conchita won.

I don't know what as happened to Jen. But it seems Serena has taken a lot of the fight from her. She seems obsessed with the Williams 24/7 which does not bode well for her concentration. :cool:

Jennifer should have won. End of story. She is playing horribly since Wimbledon as usual. Damn Amelie for getting psychological help, cause if it were not for her, Jennifer would be fine now. Jen seems to be the type of player that looses confidence after loosing to one player. it happened last year with Justine, and she dropped a level, but it was still good enough to win a slam and beat players of Amelie's caliber. Then she had a bad day and lost to Amelie (who was playing amazing tennis), and she went down another level. She is now just a top 15 or 20 player who is going to loose to players as powerless as conchita.

I know, the nerve of her! Winning matches!

1) Jennifer Doesn't Play Well on Indoor Courts
2) Jennifer hasn't had any Indoor Court warm ups, and hadn't gotten use to the court yet.
3) Jens been ill recently and hasn't played much
4) Jennifer doesn't cope well with spins, and having a oppenent like Martinez in her firs round who spins the ball all over the place and dicates points isn't going to suit Jens style.

Well Played Martinex though.

1) Jen coped very well with the defeat.
2) Postive things, Jens ankle didn't seem too bad, as she carried on playing on it.
3) Jen has a new stance for serving. Sticks her back leg out quite a way before leaning into the serve.
4) Jens ball toss has imrpoved, no as much to the right, but still had a fw dodgey ones today.
5) Looked in good shape, very fit and was moving well after her njury.

Lets see what she does about Linz.

Because Jenn has never beaten Venus and has not beaten Serena this year, and has beaten Martina, and elected to add the comment that Martina was not only the best, but expressly mention the Williamses as not being as tough to beat as Martina, some people viewed Jenn's comments, IF THEY WERE EVEN MADE, as sour grapes, obsession/dislike for the Williamses, jealousy, whatever.

In reading some of the posts between 'coolconchita' and 'supremeross' I have been LMAO. Both of you make excellent points. Conchita Martinez has proven that she can still play with the top players in the world. I think she probably would still be able to beat a few others in the top ten on clay. But let's be honest-Conchita will NEVER have a tourney with 3 wins over 3 top ten players again. At best-she is now a C+ player. If Conchita is not washed up-she's certainly in the rinse cycle. I wouldn't feel comfortable betting good money on her in a tier III let alone a Grand Slam.

But she has given us great matches, like her win over Hingis to eventually win Berlin, her Wimbledon championship run, her first 6 wins @ the French Open 2000, her match against Venus @ the 1999 Chase Championships, etc. As long as Conchita has as many fans as she still appears to have and stays healthy, I think she should play as long as she likes.
