Volcana, I noticed the quote "Im trying but she's not any good" in the closed thread...the one you put up.

Could you tell me where its from, which match...who about who...

I have a feeling I might know, but Im not 100% sure...

Ta. :)

I do recall reading a quote from somewhere that had Hingis saying that Julie HD wasn't a very good player...and that quote was quite similar...

I also recall, in the German Open final between the two, someone shouting something out and Martina replying, but I didn't hear what was said...that game was an awful thing for any Julie fan! Really really awful...

Of course it might not be anything to do with that!

Im also curious where the first quote that Volcana gave is from....

I'll try to find it. Somehow, I don't remember this being about someone as highly ranked as JHD. And I feel obligated to point out Martina stopped saying things like that long before she lost the #1 ranking.

We learn to use our mouths before we learn to use our heads.

no, but i do remember she did say something like that about halard-decugis when she trounced her something like 6-0 6-1 in the finals of Berlin, I think it was. She said something like that about Farina Elia I think it was at last year's or this year's Pan Pacs.

The tournament where she insulted julie halard decugis ..if you want to call it an insult, its usually passed off as Hingis being honest..... was the german open '99 as you pointed out,..... but the comments were made before the match ..something along the lines of Julie not being one of the really good players ,but it was more of an offhand comment than a directed personal comment at julie ..like when a commentator asks you about your opponent in the upcomming match and you just sort of dismiss them as not being really a threat .....I had hoped julie would win the next day but she actually played far worse than I expected.

yeah Monica53 it was this year at that T1 japanese tournament-
I remeber because I was feeling sorry for Hingis and then read those comments against SFE- and Tamarine and got quite annoyed

Thanks for the input...

I do have the Hingis/Halard match on tape somehwere or other, but it has always been too painful to watch again...

It does stick in my mind though, someone shouting something out and Hingis replying to laughter from the crowd...

The match is the worst I ever saw Julie play...Hinigs played very well, but Julie barely hit a ball in court during the enitre match. Such a bitter disappointment, especially after one of her best ever performances just days before, in beating the great Steffi Graf on home turf. The crowd was very much Pro-Hingis for the final.
