View Full Version : Cecilie Melsted - a Danish junior

Aug 11th, 2010, 10:41 AM

Full Name: Cecilie Lundgaard Melsted
Birth Date: 05 FEB 1995
Residence: Frederiksberg (Copenhagen), Denmark
Nationality: Denmark
Plays: Right Handed (Double Handed Backhand)
Best weapon: Forehand
Club: KB

Melsted is without doubt the best of the Danish juniors born 1995, and certainly also better than those girls who are 1 year older. Melsted may even be the best of the juniors in that three-year gap after Karen Barbat and Mai Grage of 1992. Cecilie Melsted has been continously ranked #1 or close to #1 in her age group in Denmark ever since she was 12 years of age in 2007.

Current Danish ranking:
Aug 2010 - #1 (U16) (#5 in the women's rankings)

Danish Year end rankings:
2007 - #1 (U12)
2008 - #2 (U14) (#20 in the women's rankings)
2009 - #1 (U14) (#10 in the women's rankings)

Elitecentret ('Center of Elite')
Cecilie Melsted has been part of the training program at Elitecentret under the Danish Tennis Federation - a project where she and Mai Grage have been the leading players on the female side. Elitecentret provides help with training, physical training, physical tests, travels, tournament planning, etc.

Tennis Europe Junior
Melsted has played some tournaments on the Tennis Europe Junior tour and was ranked #35 at the end of 2009 on the Tennis Europe U14 rankings. She won titles in Finland and Norway, and did extremely well at the Grade 2 Bambini Cup reaching the SF (losing a tight match 5-7 4-6 to the eventual tournament winner Anna Maria Heil of Austria).

ITF Junior
Melsted has played a few ITF junior tournaments - mainly grade 4 and 5 events. She has not had any tournament wins yet but she was a finalist at Estonian Junior Open 2010 in both singles and doubles. She's going to play some bigger ITF tournaments towards the end of 2010 (Orange Bowl, amongst others). I will post Melsted's 2010 schedule in another post in the thread.

Melsted vs. Danish players
According to the results database at Danish Tennis Federation, Melsted has played more than 50 matches against Danish players the past year (more than half of these were senior matches!), and she has lost only 5 of these matches! All losses were in senior matches; Melsted has no Danish junior losses the past 52 weeks (in more than 25 matches)! Melsted has lost 3 times against Hanne Skak Jensen, and once each vs. Maria Jespersens and Anne Theil Gylling. These women are much older and more experienced than Melsted (19 to 24 years of age at the time), while Melsted was only 14 or 15 in these matches. Hanne Skak Jensen is an impossible task for a 14 year old. Skak Jensen is extremely good; a former pro player once ranked #300 on WTA and multiple Danish singles champion. Even Wozniacki would struggle against Hanne Skak Jensen in her junior days.

Melsted plays for KB - the most sucessful tennisclub in Denmark in recent years (they have won the Danish Outdoors Championships 12 times the last 15 years). KB has a very strong senior team, and they normally have no use of Melsted who plays on the junior team instead. But when Malou Ejdesgaard couldn't return from South Africa in due time for KB's first match of the season, Cecilie Melsted had to step in. To say that Melsted did quite well is an understatement: She double bagelled her 5 year older opponent in the singles, won her doubles match, and was awarded mvp for her team (most valuable player)!

WTA debut
It was quite a surprise when Cecilie Melsted got a qualification wild card for the $220,000 e-Boks Sony Ericsson Open in Copenhagen 2010. She wasn't among the initial wild cards, but there must have been some open slots just as the tournament was about to begin. It was quite wise to give Cecilie the wild card, I think. Cecilie did well in her match vs. Stephanie Foretz (FRA) although she lost 1-6 1-6.

Cecilie Melsted's Danish Championship titles:

2009 - U14, indoors
2009 - U14, outdoors
2010 - U16, indoors
2010 - U16, outdoors

2007 - U12, outdoors (with Sofie Flader)
2008 - U14, indoors (with Emilie Elsvad)
2008 - U14, outdoors (with Emilie Elsvad)
2009 - U14, indoors (with Sofie Flader)
2009 - U14, outdoors (with Sofie Flader)
2010 - U16, indoors (with Amanda A. Wessung)
2010 - U16, outdoors (with Amanda A. Wessung)

Mixed doubles
2007 - U12, outdoors (with Frederik N. Sauer)
2010 - U16, outdoors (with Mikael Torpegaard)

I'm sure Melsted also has some Club Championship titles, and she must have quite a lot of Silver and Bronze medals as well.

Cecilie Melsted became a triple champion at the Danish U16 championships in July 2010 winning all three events (singles, doubles and mixed doubles)! Emilie Elsvad (2) and Amanda Arildsen Wessung (3) - both born 1994 - are good, and probably the best players of the years 1994-1995 besides Melsted, but they're still a notch or two behind Melsted even if they're a year older.

Excellent introduction. Cecilie is for sure the Danish girl player to watch after first Karen and now also Mai moved into senior tennis. There are also some younger girls coming up but they still need to prove themselves on the junior ITF circuit. Cecilie has actually improved her ITF ranking in 2010 from #900 to #375 and even though she just recently started playing these tournaments. She has made points in most of her tournament which is quite unusual for such a young player. It will be interesting to see how she performs in the G2 and G1 tournaments now that she has the ranking to enter.
Her weapon is for sure the forhand that she hits hard and with a lot of topspin. She is also strong even though she is not that tall. She need still needs to improve most of her game but I am sure her coaches are working on this.
This week she plays the Danish National Championship in Kolding. She is seeded 2 in absence of Karen, Mai and Malou and she has a good chance of making it to the final (against Hanne Skak for sure).

Aug 12th, 2010, 02:34 PM
She is also strong even though she is not that tall.
You are right, she's not very tall. She can still grow an inch or two but she will probably never be a really tall girl (or woman). Yet she seems so strong and powerful! Really robust, as we would say in Denmark (I'm not sure if the word robust implies the same things in English).

Cecilie Melsted is in the semi final at the Danish Championships:

1R: Cecilie Melsted def. Anna Riisgaard (Silkeborg, b. 1995) 6-1 6-1
2R: def. Cindie Andersen (Esbjerg, b. 1989) 6-2 6-4
QF: Cecilie Melsted def. Anna Signe Rasmussen (Birkerød, b. 1994) 6-4 6-3

Cecilie's opponent in the SF will be Amanda Arildsen Wessung (Hørsholm-Rungsted, b. 1994), bronze winner at the U16 Championships (won by Melsted). The youngsters are really dominating the championships (although Hanne Skak Jensen is still there, of course), but more about that in the junior thread...

Aug 13th, 2010, 02:01 PM
Melsted won her SF at the Danish championships and is in the Final! Well done!

SF: Cecilie Melsted def. Amanda Arildsen Wessung 7-5 6-3

She will face (1)Hanne Skak Jensen in the final. Hanne Skak Jensen defeated the 14 year old talent Martine Ditlev 6-2 6-1 in the other SF. Well done by Martine to go so far even if some players were missed at the championships (Barbat, Grage, Ejdesgaard)!

Cecilie Melsted is also in the doubles final (with KB teammate Hanne Skak as a partner).

Aug 14th, 2010, 01:39 PM
Final: Hanne Skak Jensen def. Cecilie Melsted 6-1 6-0

Expected win by Hanne although I had expected Melsted to win a few more games (she usually wins 5 games or so vs. Skak Jensen). But silver at the Danish senior Championships is still a great result! Doubles final will be played this afternoon.

Aug 15th, 2010, 08:26 AM
Cecilie won the doubles final - her first senior Danish championship title! Congratulations! :cheer:

Danish Championships, doubles, final:
Cecilie Melsted/Hanne Skak Jensen def. Catrine Bjerrehus/Diane Filip 6-3 6-4

There was a short clip about Cecilie Melsted in TV2 yesterday. Hanne Skak praised Melsted's big forehand but also said, that there's still a long way to go for the youngster. TV2 are always making silly comparisons with Wozniacki whenever a Danish junior is on the court but Melsted seemed rather modest (which I like, since she has no reason to be!). The clip can be seen here:

Thanks for all the information :)... Cecilie is definitely one to watch!

Aug 16th, 2010, 04:26 PM
Looks like Cecilie has received a WC for a 10k in Wahlstedt in Germany this week. I found this on the tournament webpage (http://www.anhuth-dev.de/an602tf4/website.php?sid=b8c722f5a7a0f51a1a3a092a99860440&id=/index/aktuell.htm):

Interesting to see how Cecilie performs on this level. Hopefully she avoids Karen Barbat in 1R who is also in the MD entry list (http://www.itftennis.com/womens/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100022494&event=&order=Position) ;)

Great news! She's still a bit young, I think, but it will probably be a great experience. Good luck!

Cecilie also has a blog update (doesn't happen very often):

A brief summary: Cecilie enjoyed playing the Danish junior championships in July - winning three titles!

Then she was in Moscow and London playing European Championships (individual and team championships). With less succes though.

Back from London Cecilie suddenly got a wild card for the WTA tournament in Copenhagen. She said yes to the wild card, of course, but she hadn't played on hard court for some while. They got hold of the coach Bjørn Hilberg (once a coach for Na Li) to help Cecilie just before her match Saturday afternoon. Cecilie says she played quite well and had some chances to win more games in the match but Stephanie Foretz didn't give anything away. It was great to play WTA, says Cecilie, and she's grateful she got this opportunity! She will train hard to be able to play more such events.

Aug 16th, 2010, 06:20 PM
$10,000 Wahlstedt, Germany (clay), singles:

1R: (wc)Cecilie Melsted vs. (8)Aminat Kushkhova (RUS)

Kushkova will be a difficult opponent. She's just 17 but is ranked 691 on WTA and seeded 8 in Wahlstedt. She has played a lot of ITF tournaments in Russia (at least 10 tournaments of 25K or more so far in 2010) and has some experience in spite of her young age.

The match will be played Tuesday 12:00.

Aug 16th, 2010, 08:25 PM
Go Cecilie! :yeah:

Aug 17th, 2010, 11:39 AM
(8)Aminat Kushkhova (RUS) def. (wc)Cecilie Melsted 6-3 6-1

Expected win for the Russian but probably an OK performance from Melsted. This was Cecilie's first MD match ever - and only her second pro match (WTA Copenhagen quali being the first). Good luck in the future!

Next week Cecilie will be back on the ITF Junior Tour when she travels to Belgium. Her improved ranking will make her 5th seed as it look right now. Entry list can be found here (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100021987&event=1100124982&order=Position&gender=Girls)

Good luck

Aug 20th, 2010, 09:26 AM
It'll be interesting to see how Cecilie performs in the junior events now and in the next couple of years. Good luck!

I found a video of Cecilie Melsted being interviewed at the Wozniacki Academy in the summer of 2010. The video is made by NSG (Nordic Sports Group). It's in Danish:

Aug 23rd, 2010, 09:29 AM
Heiveld Graydon Junior Outdoor Open, Belgium

Singles, 1R:
(5)Cecilie Melsted (DEN) Vs. (wc)Helen Clements (GBR)

Scheduled to be played today - not before 12:00. The tournament webpage (with draws & OOP) is located here (http://www.heiveldtennis.be/body.php?taal_id=1&niveau=2&link_niv1_id=50&link_niv2_id=55).

I don't know Helen Clements. She's born 1995 (as Melsted) but does not seem to have as much ITF junior experience as Melsted (ranked approximately #2000 on ITF).

Aug 23rd, 2010, 09:32 AM
Go, Cecilie! :yeah:

Aug 23rd, 2010, 02:36 PM
Heiveld Graydon Junior Outdoor Open, Singles, 1R:

(5)Cecilie Melsted (DEN) def. (wc)Helen Clements (GBR) 6-3 6-1

Aug 23rd, 2010, 03:05 PM

Aug 23rd, 2010, 04:31 PM
Good start in Belgium. Hopefully she can go far in this tournament :)

Aug 24th, 2010, 05:30 PM
Round 1, doubles:
(4)Melsted (DEN)/Wagemaker (NED) def. Finck (FRA)/Runglerdkriangkrai (THA) 6-4 7-5

Aug 25th, 2010, 05:59 PM
Heiveld Graydon Junior Outdoor Open, Singles, 2R:

Catherine Chantraine (BEL) def. Cecilie Melsted (DEN) 5-7 6-4 7-6(4)

Cecilie says to tennissporten.dk that it was a fantastic match, and that Chantraine moved really well on the court. The match lasted 3 hours 40 minutes!!! And afterwards Cecilie had to play a doubles match!

Doubles, 2R:
(4)Melsted (DEN)/Wagemaker (NED) def. Puijker (NED)/Van der Zwaan (NED) 6-2 2-6 10-4

Aug 25th, 2010, 06:17 PM
Chantrine is an up-and-coming player. Still bad luck to lose 6-7 in the 3rd but if Cecilie says that the match was well played then at least she can bring something positive back from Belgium.

Sep 21st, 2010, 08:56 AM
Cecilie just won the U15 Danish Talent Cup in Holbæk in the past weekend. She cashed in a first price of DKK 10.000 to be used for travelling to international tournaments. An impressive price for a junior tournament and for sure the most rewarding during the year. In the final she beat Martine Ditlev from TCO in three sets 7-6(4) 3-6 6-3. Martine is one year younger than Cecilie, very fit and talented and also a player to watch out for in the future. Actually there is lot of good talents among the Danish junior girls.

Clike here (http://www.on-sport.dk/video/829568/melsted-kmpede-sig-til-10000) for video and interview from the final.

Sep 23rd, 2010, 06:29 AM
Thanks for the update, and congratulations to Cecilie! Well done!

Yes, Martine Ditlev is indeed very talented. She plays a lot of senior matches in Denmark for her club Odense, and she usually wins although she's only 14 years old! And she also won three titles at the Danish U14 junior championships just like Melsted did in the U16 category.

Cecilie Melsted's next ITF junior tournament is:
04 Oct - 09 Oct, Oslo ITF Indoors 2010, G5

Martine Ditlev and some other Danish juniors like Ulrikke Høyer (14 yo) will also play in Oslo. The top seed in Oslo is the 18 year old Norwegian champion Caroline Rohde-Moe, who plays on the senior pro circuit. Good luck to Cecilie and the other Danes :yeah:

Sep 24th, 2010, 03:26 PM
Good luck Cecilie & Martine :)

Oct 9th, 2010, 06:33 PM
Cecilie lost 6-7(10) 4-6 in Oslo QF to Trifunovic (SWE). Not a great result as she has beaten Trifunovic twice before but this is how is goes.

Next tournament will be an ITF G4 in Hørsholm in Denmark starting a week from now. It looks to be a bit stronger than a normal G4. Entry list can be found here (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100023010&event=1100129602&order=Position&gender=Girls).

In the week following Hørsholm she will play another strong G4 in Holland (entry list) (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100022006&event=1100125087&order=Position&gender=Girls) so there will be good chance to show how her level is at the moment against some good players.

Oct 18th, 2010, 08:33 PM
ITF G4 in Hørsholm:

1R: Cecilie Melsted (DEN) - Julianna Heino (FIN) 6-3 6-2

Next match will be against Aleksandra Trifunovic (SWE) and a chance for Cecilie to get revenge for the loss to Trifunovic in Oslo two weeks ago.

Oct 19th, 2010, 01:32 PM
2R: (7)Cecilie Lundgaard Melsted (DEN) d. Aleksandra Trifunovic (SWE) 3-6 6-4 6-1

Cecilie got her revenge! Well done - and nice come back being a set down :yeah:

Oct 19th, 2010, 06:34 PM
Good result today :)

However, the QF is going to be tough. Second seed Donna Vekic from Croatia is an up and coming player (and apparently coached by Tim Henman's former coach David Felgate ;))

Oct 20th, 2010, 02:06 PM
QF: (2)Donna Vekic (CRO) d. (7)Cecilie Lundgaard Melsted (DEN) 6-3 6-0

Cecilie was suppose to play an ITF G4 in Holland next week but apparently she has withdrawn as she is no longer to be found on the entry list. Hopefully it is not because of an injury.

Nov 13th, 2010, 03:45 PM
She is playing Swedish Elitserien.

Cecile Melsted d. Charlotte Kristiansson 63 61 :)

Nov 13th, 2010, 08:21 PM
Cecilie has been nominated for "Danish Junior Player of the Year 2010" (http://dtftennis.dk/Nyheder/2010/November/Og%20de%20nominerede%20til%20prisen%20som%20Arets% 20Tennisspiller%20samt%20Arets%20Juniortennisspill er%20er.aspx). Other nominees are Mai Grage and Simon Søndergaard. I guess Mai Grage will be hard to beat this year.

Nov 18th, 2010, 03:34 PM
DM Inde 2010 in B93 in CPH

Cecilie now in SF lossing just 3, 2 and 7 games in her 3 matches so far. her draw now looks good as she plays a club player in the SF. (Mai Grage has withdrawn for that part of the Draw...)

Nov 18th, 2010, 04:08 PM
SF vs Folmø or Wessung.

Looks like Karen Barbat will likely reach the Finale, she has lost just 2 games in 3 matches so far...

Nov 19th, 2010, 02:20 PM
The Semi finals are being played at the moment (livescores at dtftennis).

Cecile Melsted vs. Sisse Folmø 6-0 3-6 0-0
Karen Barbat vs. Maria Rasmussen 6-2 5-0

Melsted will play doubles final later today with the 32 year old (former?) Fed Cup Captain Maria Rasmussen.

Nov 19th, 2010, 02:34 PM
Cecile Melsted vs. Sisse Folmø 6-0 3-6 3-1
Karen Barbat vs. Maria Rasmussen 6-2 6-0

Nov 19th, 2010, 02:55 PM
5-2 saving some bps :)

Nov 19th, 2010, 03:01 PM
Hun leger med ilden, igen saver bp...

Nov 19th, 2010, 03:43 PM
Cecile Melsted def. Sisse Folmø 6-0 3-6 7-5
Well done!

Nov 19th, 2010, 03:49 PM
Way to go girl... :)

Nov 19th, 2010, 04:32 PM
It is going to be an interesting final against Karen. For sure Karen is big favourite but Cecilie might have a chance if she can get the big forhand going. Good chance to show the future of Danish womens tennis to everyone :)

Nov 19th, 2010, 07:17 PM
Yes, the final will be interesting. I expect Karen to win easily though.

Danish indoor championships, 2010, Ladies doubles:

(3)Cecilie Lundgaard Melsted/Maria Rasmussen def. (4)Anna Signe Rasmussen/Amanda Arildsen Wessung 6-2 6-2

Nov 20th, 2010, 06:48 AM
There's a brief post-match interview with Cecilie and Maria after the double's final here:

They're laughing about the fact that Maria Rasmussen won her first Danish singles title in 1994 - before Cecilie was born! Congratulations and well done!

Nov 20th, 2010, 08:36 PM
Cecilie also won the doubles DM in August, maybe Team Danmark will support her with Caro at Wimbledon Olympics now they don't want Malou in dubs with Caro? ;)

Nov 22nd, 2010, 02:54 PM
Cecilie will not play at orange Bowl this year - probably because her ranking isn't good enough - but it seems like she will play a Grade 1 tournament in USA next week:

Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships 2010
Dates : 29 Nov to 05 Dec 2010
Venue : Bradenton, USA
Grade : Grade 1
Surface : Hard

Nov 22nd, 2010, 04:42 PM
Cecilie has posted a blog update at tennissporten.dk (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/en-rigtig-god-uge-er-netop-overstaet-for-mig-3620.php). She says she'll play Orange Bowl, so I suppose she has a wild card as she's not on the entry list. Great - and good luck in the US!

EDIT: Oh, I just realized it's because she's in the U16 tournament at Orange Bowl...

Nov 23rd, 2010, 11:32 AM
It took a little time to find it but here is the entry list to U16 Orange Bowl:

Seems like both tournaments in US will be very strong. Good luck to Cecilie.

Nov 23rd, 2010, 12:51 PM
Its rare she write on her Blog and Twitter... Held og lykke I USA!

Btw, When will Eddie Herr start?

Nov 23rd, 2010, 01:24 PM
Btw, When will Eddie Herr start?
See post #50!

A bit off topic, but Simone Alipieva will also play @ Orange Bowl (U12), as may have been mentioned in other threads.

Nov 27th, 2010, 09:37 AM
Cecilie has a tough draw at Eddie Herr (G1):

Q1: (2)Sasha Khabibulina (BLR) vs. Cecilie Melsted

The match is scheduled at 3PM (local time) today.

Sasha Khabibulina is 18 years of age and has some experience on the womens ITF tour (ranked 920 on WTA). She has also won several Junior ITF tournaments in 2010. Sasha, by the way, is the daughter of the famous NHL hockey goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin, and a very good friend of Azarenka, who has a special relationships with the Khabibulin-family in Arizona.

Nov 27th, 2010, 11:54 AM
Q1: (2)Sasha Khabibulina (BLR) vs. Cecilie Melsted

A very tough draw indead. Cecilie will have to show some very good tennis to win this one. Good luck :)

Godt gjort! :yeah:

Held og Lykke i næste runde! :)

She lost today 5-7, 2-6.

Nov 29th, 2010, 11:24 AM
Too bad; I thought Melsted would have a fair chance of winning this match. But according to tennissporten (quoted by Jorn above) Cecilie's serve let her down. Good luck at the U16 Orange Bowl :yeah:

Nov 29th, 2010, 01:12 PM
Bad luck but this was also quite a strong tournament for her. Maybe next year she will be ready for the main draw ;)
Good luck in Orange Bowl.

Nov 29th, 2010, 01:27 PM
Good Luck at the Orange bowl Cecile... :)

Is she in MD or Qualies? Qualies start today, but she's not in the schedule...

Dec 4th, 2010, 05:19 PM
Cecilie is in U16 main draw. The draw (http://assets.usta.com/assets/1/15/Filler%20webpage5.PDF) is not out yet.

Dec 5th, 2010, 06:55 AM

Held og Lykke Cecilie! :)

Dec 6th, 2010, 06:47 AM
I'm sure Cecilie's match was on yesterday's OOP, but apparently no main draw matches were played yesterday? Her 1st match is also on today's OOP (not before 10:30). Good luck :yeah:

Dec 6th, 2010, 10:16 PM
Hun har fået en ny modstander men stadig ingen result... måske fordi hun spiller mod en Quali spiller derfor de venter en dag...

tennissporten.dk (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/cecilie-melsted-videre-i-orange-bowl-3643.php) says that Cecilie was at the brink of losing the match towards the end of 2nd set but then played some good games. Well done!

Dec 7th, 2010, 12:01 PM
Well done! :)

A bit close but she won! ;)

Good luck next round!

Dec 7th, 2010, 05:21 PM
Well done. Hope she can keep up the level in the coming matches. Orange Bowl is a really strong tournament.

Dec 7th, 2010, 07:11 PM
2R: Cecilie Melsted (DEN) d. Alejandra Cisneros (MEX) 7-5 6-1

Cecilie was down 2-5 in the 1st set, and Cisneros had set point! Great fight by Cecilie :yeah:

Dec 7th, 2010, 09:59 PM
2 wins in Orange Bowl, a new danish talent like Caroline? :)

And Simone may be even better as 12y old.

Way to go Cecilie... :)

Dec 8th, 2010, 11:07 AM
Round 3: Cecilie Melsted (DEN) vs. (2) Carol Zhao (CAN)

Its going to be more tough now! Good Luck Cecilie! :)

Dec 8th, 2010, 11:21 AM
Its going to be more tough now!
For sure! Carol Zhao was in the U16 Eddie Herr final a week ago and only lost in a tough three set match. Zhao has won many ITF junior tournaments already and also has a WTA ranking. But good luck, Cecilie!

Cecilie was up 4-2 in 2nd set but lost it. But well done by Carol Zhao (and we knew she was going to be a tough opponent)! Still a good week for Cecilie winning two matches and showing some good competitive spirit on the way (being down in both matches)...

MAkes you wonder... If angliru was a paid member of the danish tennis association.... I bet we would have herd all about it already.

Reminds me of the scene in the day after tomorrow... The california weather man expects the same old and as such misses the only event of the millennium.

Again,,, thanks for the updates guys, and if you are part of dk tennis, call me plonker... :)

Must have been some kind of injury or illness. Hard to say if it was Cecilie or her Austrian partner. Maybe she will tell in her next blog. Anyway, R16 in single and QF in double in Orange Bowl is good result in such a strong tournament.

A good guess for the next tournament for Cecilie will be the ITF G4 in Stockholm after New Year. Entry list is out already and it looks like this (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100023217&event=1100130966&order=Position&gender=Girls.).

Dec 27th, 2010, 04:55 PM
Cecilie has entered another two G4 tournaments following SALK in Stockholm:

Week 2: Västerås (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100023218&event=1100130971&order=Position&gender=Girls)
Week 3: Hamburg (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100023494&event=1100132552&order=Position&gender=Girls)

Good luck :)

2R: [3]Cecilie Melsted - Hedda Ødegaard (NOR) 6-7(4) 6-2 6-1

WD after losing 1st set!

Jan 4th, 2011, 05:08 PM
Well done! Good luck in next rd. :)

Jan 4th, 2011, 09:41 PM
Cecilie lost her doubles match today with Martine 3-6 4-6, but the good news is that she's officially on the Danish Fed Cup Team in February! Malou will not be able to play; therefore the following players have been chosen: Wozniacki, Karen Barbat, Mai Grage, and Cecilie Melsted.

It's not very likely that Cecilie will actually play any matches (that matters) but it's still nice that she's on the team. It all adds to her experience...

Seat Salk Open (Sweden, G4):

QF: Donika Bashota (SWE) d. Cecilie Melsted (DEN) 4-6 7-6(4) 6-4

Jan 7th, 2011, 07:08 PM
A QF in Stockholm is not bad but expectations will continue to increase for Cecilie and maybe she should have won this one. It must have been close.

But getting on the Fed Cup Team is good news and it will for sure be an experience for her even though it is completely unlikely that she will get on the court.

Good luck in next tournament.

Jan 8th, 2011, 06:43 AM

Yes, it WAS close: Cecilie had 2 match points in the 2nd set of the QF, and she should have closed the match! But she has a busy schedule in January, so good luck in the next tournaments in Västerås and Hamburg.

Jan 12th, 2011, 12:19 PM
Cecilie is the only Dane left in the G4-tournament in Västerås. Her results so far:

Vasteras ITF 2011 (G4)

1R: [2]Cecilie Melsted def. Tatjana Vorobjova (EST) 6-1 6-2
2R: [2]Cecilie Melsted def. Linnea Johansson (SWE) 6-3 7-6(4)
QF: [2]Cecilie Melsted def. Lisa Andersson (SWE) 7-5 6-1

Good luck in the SF!

Vasteras ITF 2011 (G4)

SF: [2]Cecilie Melsted def. [7]Ksenija Sharifova (RUS) 4-6 7-6(5) 7-5

It was a three hour match, and Sharifova had match point in the 2nd set. Sharifova won the SEAT Salk tournamet last week, so this was a very good win for Cecilie! Well done :yeah:

Cecilie will play against the no. 1 seed Malin Ulvefeldt (SWE) in the final.

Jan 13th, 2011, 03:00 PM
Excellent win for Cecilie. Sharifova is one of the best Russians born 96. She was the 1st single when Russia won the European Team Championships last year. Good luck in the final :)

Jan 13th, 2011, 08:42 PM
Godt gjort! :yeah:

Held og Lykke i Finalen! :cheer:

Vasteras ITF 2011 (G4)

Final: (1) Malin Ulvefeldt (SWE) d. (2) Cecilie Melsted 4-6 6-3 7-5

Seems like a close match. Tennissporten.dk says that Cecilie struggled with her serve today. Still a good result for her! She's playing a G4 in Hamburg next week. GL!

Jan 15th, 2011, 10:31 AM
Good fight by Cecilie. I am sure she will get her first title during 2011. It seems like she is improving tournament by tournament. Good luck in Germany :)

Cecilie playing in Hamburg G4 this week. The draw (http://www.hamburg-itf.de/41359.html) has now been made. Cecilie is 3rd seed and has bye in first match.

Yes, Cecilie looks to be the only one among the Danish junior girls with international level. Hopefully the other girls will improve so that we can have some more players to follow. Losing first round Q in an ITF grade 4 is simply not good enough.

Good luck in the next round :)

Go Cecilie...

Amanda is only 16 right? what age should they be breaking into the Internationals? Lots of Amanda on youtube by the way (practice sessions).

Jan 19th, 2011, 07:30 PM
Yes, Amanda is 16. It's very hard to say if she'll continue on the pro circuit. Education seems to be more important than a sports career for most young girls in Denmark. And playing tennis on the pro circuit - even if it's just 10K's - is quite expensive, and a lot of sponsorships (or wealthy parents) is absolutely necessary. No money, no tennis career! The talent has to be there too, of course.

Thanks for the youtube hint! Amanda's club HRT has put a lot of trainig videos of many of their junior players on youtube (also the lefthanded Ulrikke).

Ulrikke and Martine are still only 14, but I agree with InTheAir. They should have come a bit further as tennis players at this stage. A part of the problem is that the level of tennis in Denmark really sucks. Martine has played 2nd single in all her club matches for Odense's senior team in 2010 - indoors and outdoors (if I'm not mistaken). And Martine won almost all her matches - even when playing against women in their 20's! She also defeated the 32 year old (former) Fed Cup captain Maria Rasmussen at the indoors club championships - when Maria seemed to be in incredible form (taking a doubles title at DM a few weeks earlier and playing well in singles too)! It is really difficult for the young Danish talents to get good opponents. And they can't travel a lot Internationally when they're just 14 - unless they're very unique talents like Wozniacki was but none of these girls are, I'm afraid...

I'll not be too harsh on Martine and Ulrikke. They're just 14 and I hope they'll still enjoy the next couple of years and keep developing and maturing tenniswise.

I can sense that the danish fan base must feel some frustation when they have such an exceptional player like Wozniacki alone and waiting for someone. If she could only have someone like Dyberg, but no.
Melsted is still very very young to put big responsabilities on her. It would be nicer if the danish federation could somehow give a little more finantial support to players IN Denmark and organize 10ks there. The only real potential I see for danish girls not counting Woz is for Malou to develop a career in doubles. But yes, in singles there arent too many hopes since Karen only has sporadic good matches over top 200s. And, sadly, thats all. For now

Jan 20th, 2011, 03:28 PM
Thanks (I'm quoting to bring the photo up on this page)!

@Le Tenisse: Yes, it would be good for Danish tennis if there were some 10K's in Denmark.

A close match, but well done by the two Danes :yeah:

Jan 21st, 2011, 09:18 PM
Good with some double wins. Cecilie has done well in single lately but her double results have not been so impressive. Maybe this tournament will turn things around :)

By the way a picture from the double match posted on the tournament website (Cecilie serving):

Jan 22nd, 2011, 03:44 PM
They lost the SF but I think a SF was a good result for the two Danish bff's.

SF: Manon Arcangioli (FRA)/Michelle Werbrouck (BEL) d. Cecilie Melsted/Martine Ditlev 6-3 6-4

Cecilie's (and Martine's) next tournament seems to be ITF Copenhagen (G4) in mid February. There's also a U14/U16 tournament at Farum the following week which will have a lot of Danish participants.

Jan 29th, 2011, 04:59 PM
With Karen and Caroline yet to arrive and with Mai apparently injured, Cecilie was only Danish FED Cup player the practice court today in Israel. Some nice pictures in this article (http://www.tennis.dk/Nyheder/2011/Januar/janlor.aspx) and a video clip right here (http://www.on-sport.dk/video/1042817/melsted-p-trningsbanen-fr-fed) :)

Cute. She seems to enjoy it :)
Here's another clip from the hard training at Eilat:

Feb 5th, 2011, 04:58 PM
Cecilie didn't play any matches in Israel, but that's no surprise. She was there to learn and gain experience, and hopefully she also had some quality training with the other Danish players.

A few photos from Israel:

Karen Barbat (left) and Cecilie Melsted at the DEN vs Switzerland match at Fed Cup 2011.

Cecilie is watching Denmark's match vs Great Britain

Cecilie's next ITF tournament is Junior Cup Copenhagen Indoor 2011 (G4) 14 February - 19 February. The tournament is arranged by her own club KB, so she's on home soil! Good luck.

Feb 5th, 2011, 05:11 PM
Maybe it is time to change the title of this thread. According to a short clip on Danish TV2 she has birthday today and turning 16. Congrats..

(6) Cecilie Melsted (DEN) d. Charlotta Swenson-Backelin (SWE) 7-5 6-3

Cecilie plays doubles at this tournament with the excellent Swede Malin Ulvefeldt. They're seeded 1.

Feb 14th, 2011, 04:02 PM
Good choice of double partner. They might meet each other in QF if they both win their first two matches.

Feb 15th, 2011, 07:10 PM
Malin Ulvefeldt actually lost her singles match today which was quite an upset.
But she and Cecilie won their doubles match!

1R, doubles:
(1) Cecilie Melsted/Malin Ulvefeldt (SWE) d. Emma Ek (SWE)/Julie Noe (DEN) 6-1 6-3

Feb 15th, 2011, 08:00 PM
Yes, some very good players in the top quarter of the draw. Also a player like Ayzatulina could be a dark horse as she is one of the best girls born 96 in Europe. Cecilie Melsted will have to play her best tennis to make it far in this tournament.

Feb 16th, 2011, 05:50 PM
ITF Junior Cup Copenhagen Indoor 2011 (G4)

R2, singles

QF, doubles
(1) Cecilie Melsted/Malin Ulvefeldt (SWE) d. Cornelia Emily Lister/Charlotta Swenson-Backelin (SWE) 7-6(6) 7-5

Cecilie's QF will be tough. I agree, the Russian Ayzatulina seems very good indeed, and she won her 2nd round match easily 62 62.

Feb 16th, 2011, 05:54 PM
Go Cecilie... Good luck in the QF.

Feb 16th, 2011, 07:16 PM
Good day for Cecilie. It will be an interesting test for her against Ayzatulina. If she wins that match I think she will win the tournament :)

Ayzatulina was too good today. Go for the doubles title, Cecilie & Malin!

Feb 17th, 2011, 04:10 PM
It must have a very close match. Too bad that Cecilie did not take her chances in the second set. But Ayzatulina is a very good player so this was also a tough draw.

Next ITF tournament for Cecilie seems to be in Kramfors, Sweden in mid March. It is a G3 and entry list is here (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100023243&event=1100131121&order=Position&gender=Girls).

Feb 24th, 2011, 08:55 AM
Thanks. Cecilie's next ITF after Sweden G3 seems to be a G4 in Norway (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100023235&event=1100131073&order=Position&gender=Girls) 21-26 March.

Btw: The Danish Grand prix series begins tomorrow, and has some interesting players in the draws. Mai Grage and Cecilie are seeded 1 & 2 respectively, and a final with those two would be nice! But there are many good players in the draw; besides a lot of the best Danish juniors there are also some Swedish players: Malin Ulvefeldt and Sandra Roma. Draw here (http://www.b93tennis.dk/images/b93/tennis/filer/b93%20grand%20prix%20damer.pdf).

This is the first of 10 tournaments in the Grand prix series in the course of 2011 (from February to August). When all 10 tournaments have been played (including Danish indoors and outdoors championships) the 8 best women qualify for a Masters playoff in November (somewhat similar in concept to the WTA Championship with round robins, SF's and a final). Hanne Skak Jensen won the Grand prix Masters last year, but it will be interesting to see what Mai Grage can do, now that she has decided to play in Denmark only. But that's another discussion. I don't think the Danish Grand prix will be really significant for Cecilie. I'm sure her International schedule is first priority, and she'll probably only play a few of these Danish tournaments. But GL to Cecilie tomorrow!

Feb 28th, 2011, 07:16 AM
Danish Grand Prix series, pt. 1 of 10, at B93, 25-27 February 2011:

1R: Cecilie Melsted (KB) def. Laura Dahlstrøm (B 93) 6-0 6-2
2R: Cecilie Melsted (KB) def. Stefanie Jolak (Holbæk) w.o.
QF: Cecilie Melsted (KB) def. Camilla Egebjerg Therkildsen (Århus 1900) 5-2 ret.
SF: Cecilie Melsted (KB) def. Maria Jespersen (Helsingør) 2-6 7-5 6-4
F: (WC) Sandra Roma (B 93) def. Cecilie Melsted (KB) 6-2 6-3

Cecilie did reach the final as expected. Well done, although she had a couple of easy matches on her way. I knew beating Maria Jespersen was going to be tough, but well done! Cecilie lost to the Swede Sandra Roma in the final - a WTA #500 or something a year or two ago. Sandra Roma is getting back from injury/surgery, but had no problems here. She was really a level above the Danish girls this weekend (Sandra Roma also beat Mai Grage in the QF!).

Mar 1st, 2011, 05:29 PM
Good match practice for Cecilie. Good luck in Kramfors next week. It is a G3 so good chance to earn some ranking points if she plays well :)

Mar 7th, 2011, 10:17 AM
Cecilie uses this as a profile photo on her twitter account:

It's Martine Ditlev to the left, btw. Cute bff's :)

Mar 7th, 2011, 10:17 AM
The draw (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentresults.asp?Event=1100131121&Tournament=1100023243) at the G3 in Sweden is out:

Cecilie Lundgaard MELSTED (DEN) (5) Vs Hanna ELFVING (SWE)
Alexandra BORGENHOFF (SWE) Vs Gabriele BERTASIUTE (LTU) (2)

Cecilie has a tough QF if she wins her first two rounds: Bertasuite won the ITF in Copenhagen last month (where Cecilie also played)! But first she needs to win the first round. GL!

Mar 7th, 2011, 07:01 PM
That is a decent draw even though playing Bertasuite in a possible QF is not too good. But hopefully Cecilie will show some excellent tennis this week. This is a good chance to earn some points. Good luck :)

ITF High Coast Junior World Ranking Tournament, Kramfors, Sweden (G3)

2R: (5) Cecilie Melsted d. Darya Chernetsova (BLR) 7-6(4) 6-3

The big showdown vs. Gabriele Bertasiute in the QF will be interesting! They have played against each other on a few occasions (one match mentioned in Cecilie's blog (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/2-danmarksmesterskaber-og-drottningens-prisrlm-2891.php)), and the two girls also know each other from Bertasiute's Swedish club Malmö, where Cecilie also plays. They have also played doubles together. Gabriele usually wins, but their matches have been tough three set-matches. GL Cecilie!

Well done and Held og Lykke i næste runde! :)

Mar 9th, 2011, 06:44 PM
The big showdown vs. Gabriele Bertasiute in the QF will be interesting! They have played against each other on a few occasions (one match mentioned in Cecilie's blog (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/2-danmarksmesterskaber-og-drottningens-prisrlm-2891.php)), and the two girls also know each other from Bertasiute's Swedish club Malmö, where Cecilie also plays. They have also played doubles together. Gabriele usually wins, but their matches have been tough three set-matches. GL Cecilie!

This sounds like a real test. Could be an interesting match to watch but I guess Kramfors is very far up north :-)

Good luck

ITF High Coast Junior World Ranking Tournament, Kramfors, Sweden (G3)

QF: (5) Cecilie Melsted d. (2) Gabriele Bertasiute (LTU) 7-6(4) 6-4

Excellent win, althugh a tough match as expected. And Cecilie won some nice ranking points! Good luck in the SF :)

Mar 10th, 2011, 01:57 PM
Great Stuff by Cecilie,,, :) Who is up next?

Great Stuff by Cecilie,,, :) Who is up next?

Elena Maltseva (RUS) (draw (http://www2.tennis.se/tavling/international/2011/Jun/Kramfors_1/draw3.html)).

I don't know her, but there are just so many good Russians...
She's actually ranked lower than Cecilie, but I'm sure she'll be dangerous. She beat the #3 seed Malin Ulvefeldt (SWE) easily 6-2 6-3.

Mar 10th, 2011, 03:06 PM
Thanks angliru... Looks like it should be a good match... Go Cecilie... :)

Mar 10th, 2011, 03:55 PM
Excellent win. Good luck in the semi. Would be nice with a grade 3 final :)

Mar 10th, 2011, 08:01 PM
Well done Cecilie and Held og Lykke in SF!

With Mai out can Cecilie be the new danish WTA Star with Caro? :)

Mar 10th, 2011, 09:31 PM
that was a good win over Bertasiute ;)

Mar 11th, 2011, 05:13 PM
Party is over. Lost 0 and 4 to Maltseva. Anyway, a good run by Cecilie in this tournament. She is slowly improving.

Mar 11th, 2011, 06:27 PM
Yes. And she will move a bit up in the rankings. She's currently #288, and will probably move 30 positions up or so. It'll be a new carrer high, if I'm not mistaken. A good week :)

Mar 16th, 2011, 09:12 AM

It's difficult to predict such things, but she has a realistic chance of being the best Danish player since Wozniacki. If we compare Cecilie's junior career with Karen Barbat's, then Barbat had achieved much more at this age (16 years). Karen had won several ITF tournaments, and she had played at junior slams. Yet Karen's pro career has been rather disappointing. She's working hard and playing a lot of tournaments, but doesn't get the wins when it matters.

Cecilie may very well do better than Karen, but she needs to progress continually - not just during her remaining junior years, but also during her pro years (if she gets a real pro career). Will she ever be a star alongside Wozniacki? Probably not (although I'd love it!).

Mar 16th, 2011, 09:13 AM
Cecilie has moved up to #260 on the ITF rankings - a new career high. But there's still a long way to go.

Next tournament is ITF Oslo Indoor (G4), 21 Mar to 26 Mar 2011.

Good analysis. Without being an expert I think that the main difference between Karen and Cecilie is the stability around her in her club. Karen had some impressive wins as a junior (just look at her junior activity on itftennis.com) but many of these girls are now ranked around top-150 or even top-100 while Karen is still stuck way behind. So a good guess would be that the set-up around her is not the best. She is still young but she need to start beating these higher ranked girls.

Cecilie is still not at the level of Karen at the same age but it looks like she is improving all the time. She continues to climb on the ranking and she rarely has a disappointing loss. It will be interesting to see how far she can go.

Mar 16th, 2011, 09:25 PM
I can see that Karen has defeated Bojana Jovanovski, for instance, who's now a very good WTA player (and also was a very good junior!).

Re. Cecilie: Like you I also have the impression that Cecilie is being taken care of in a very good manner. She seems to handle the pressure rather well at "big" events like WTA in Copenhagen, Danish senior championships, and Fed Cup, and she doesn't fall apart like many other players would do.

Mar 17th, 2011, 02:03 AM

I have high hopes for Cecilie... She seemed to have her head in the right place.

She trains at the Wozniacki academy too with Kenneth Carlsen?

Mar 20th, 2011, 08:09 PM
ITF Oslo Indoors 2011

The draw is out:

1R: (Q) Arianne Hartono (NED vs. (2) Cecilie Melsted

There are two other Danish girls in the main draw: Anna Signe Rasmussen and Martine Ditlev. Good luck :yeah:

Yes, Cecilie has trained at the Wozniacki Academy - but that's just a few days per year, if I'm not mistaken.

Mar 22nd, 2011, 05:10 PM
ITF Oslo Indoors 2011

1R: (Q) Arianne Hartono (NED def. (2) Cecilie Melsted 6-4 6-4

That was disappointing. Cecilie also plays doubles (with Norwegian Hedda Odegaard), and has a bye in the first round. Let's hope it'll turn out better...

Mar 24th, 2011, 01:27 PM
Poor result. I just gave her credit for never taking a disappointing loss. Maybe I better keep my mouth shot ;)

Mar 24th, 2011, 04:15 PM

She's doing better in the dubles at Oslo!

QF: (1) Melsted/Hedda Odegaard (NOR) d. Emma Ek (SWE)/Jovana Petrovic (SWE) 2-6 6-4 (10-4)
SF: (1) Melsted/Hedda Odegaard (NOR) d. (3)Sarah Beth Askew (GBR)/Pippa Horn (GBR) 5-7 7-6(5) (10-8)

It would be nice if Cecilie could take the doubles title now. GL in the final!

Mar 25th, 2011, 12:53 PM
ITF Oslo Indoors 2011, doubles

QF: (1) Melsted/Hedda Odegaard (NOR) d. Emma Ek/Jovana Petrovic (SWE) 2-6 6-4 (10-4)
SF: (1) Melsted/Hedda Odegaard (NOR) d. (3)Sarah Beth Askew/Pippa Horn (GBR) 5-7 7-6(5) (10-8)
F: (1) Melsted/Hedda Odegaard (NOR) d. Cornelia Emily Lister (SWE)/Barbora Stefkova (CZE) walkover

A doubles title is always nice, I guess, even if a walkover is a sad way to win it. This is actually Cecilie's first ITF title!

Mar 25th, 2011, 08:54 PM
Good win. Too bad about the w.o. but that is how it goes. It also adds a bit of points to her ranking as her double results have not always been the best. Hopefully this title win can boost the confidence as well :)

I guess the next tournament will be the Danish National Championships early April. Good luck against Karen, Hanne, Mai and the other Danish girls :)

Mar 26th, 2011, 06:43 AM
I agree about the ranking points. Singles is of course the most important event, but the doubles results will contribute to her rankings as well (by 25 %). I was in doubt whether a walkover in a final gives full points (as winning a real final), but I actually looked it up, and it seems like it does give full points. I was in doubt because when players reach a round by w.o., and then lose, they only get points for the previous round.

I guess the next tournament will be the Danish National Championships early April. Good luck against Karen, Hanne, Mai and the other Danish girls :)

The indoor championships sees to be moved around a lot on the calender! Last year it was November 2010. Cecilie has a final and a doubles title to defend! It will be difficult, as I'm sure a lot more women are fresh and fit now than late in the season. Good luck :)

Apr 7th, 2011, 07:29 PM
Cecilie is in the semi at the Danish indoor championships. The scores so far have not been impressive but she seems to have done just enough. In the semi she will face Hanne Skak Jensen who she is yet to beat. Will be an interesting match to follow. Hopefully it will be shown on the live webcam on www.b93tennis.dk. The match is scheduled for Friday 4pm.

Apr 7th, 2011, 08:13 PM
I saw a bit of her QF tonight. Cecilie's serve wasn't very good, and her opponent (gorgeous Natsha Nielsen) was standing 2 metres inside the baseline when receiving - even on 1st serves! She needs to serve better in the SF.

Hanne Skak has not been too impressive either, and seems defeatable this year - if not by Cecilie, then by Mai Grage, who shouldn't have problems reaching the final in the other half vs Martine Ditlev (well done by Martine to reach the SF, btw). Hanne Skak also plays doubles final tomorrow, and she said in a video interview at on-sport.dk that she was really tired today.

Btw: I think it's strange that Cecilie doesn't play doubles here. After all, she won the doubles title both indoors and outdoors in 2010. But GL in the singles SF!

Apr 8th, 2011, 01:27 PM
Cecilie's SF will be on livecam today - not before 16:00 CET

Apr 8th, 2011, 03:30 PM
Melsted wins the 1st set vs Hanne Skak Jensen 7-5! :)

Apr 8th, 2011, 04:43 PM
Melsted wins the 1st set vs Hanne Skak Jensen 7-5! :)

But loses the next two 4-6, 2-6
was down 0-5 in the 2nd!

Apr 8th, 2011, 05:36 PM
Too bad. I thought Cecilie would win the match when she had won the 1st set (because of Hanne's fatigue). But Hanne is still too good. A good effort by Cecilie anyway :)

Apr 10th, 2011, 07:46 PM
Good result by Cecilie. She is catching up with the best seniors. Should be able to win this one within 1 or 2 years.

Apr 24th, 2011, 08:58 PM
Cecilie won the Danish junior championships without much sweat which was to be expected. Not sure what her next tournaments will be. Can not find her on any of the ITF entry lists for the coming weeks so it might just be practice in her home club in Copenhagen.

Apr 25th, 2011, 07:33 AM
She also won the U16 doubles. Congrats!

Cecilie's next ITF tournament seems to be in Sweden next week:

Tennis Sweden Junior Cup (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100023303&event=1100131500&order=Position&gender=Girls)
Varnamo, Sweden
Date : 24 May - 29 May 2011
Grade: G4

She's seeded #2. There's also a lot of other Danish girls on the entry list...

May 16th, 2011, 04:01 PM
Good luck at Varnamo. She has some points to defend in the coming weeks.

She lost the semi, though:

ITF Tennis Sweden Junior Cup 2011, Värnamo (G4)

(5)Jelena Dzinic (SRB) def. (1)Cecilie Melsted (DEN) 7-6 6-1

Cecilie's next ITF tournament is probably Odense 20 Jun to 25 Jun 2011.

May 28th, 2011, 07:02 PM
Not a super result. Cecilie should have won this one but the other girl must have been good. The draw looked perfect for Cecilie. Too bad she did not take advantage.

Will she get a WC for the WTA-quali next weekend?

Jun 20th, 2011, 06:07 AM
Cecilie is playing at the Odense ITF (G4) this week.

She is seeded 2 and has a first round bye (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/drawsheetbyround.asp?Event=1100131602&Tournament=1100023320). GL!

Jun 20th, 2011, 07:41 AM
Cecilie appeared in TV2 this morning talking about Wimbledon. See the interview here (http://go.tv2.dk/morgentv/id-40941611.html).

Good luck in Odense.

Jun 20th, 2011, 02:16 PM
Thanks :yeah:

The other junior is Simone Alipieva (if anyone wonders). It's a bit strange that tv2 didn't mention their full names in the clip.

Jun 21st, 2011, 06:10 PM
Cecilie lost her 2nd round match in Odense

KSENIA DMITRIEVA (RUS) defeated Cecilie Lundgaard MELSTED (DEN) (2) 7-6(7) 6-3

Jun 21st, 2011, 06:22 PM
Poor result. Russian girls can of course be good players but Dmitrieva's activity list does not look very impressive. Cecilie must have lost her focus :(

Jun 24th, 2011, 06:04 PM
Next tournament will be a G2 in Holland. Cecilie is just outside MD so she will play Q.

Good to go for higher tiers but maybe timing is not the best after the early loss in Odense. Good luck. A few good wins in Q could bring back confidence.

Jun 24th, 2011, 07:16 PM
G2, I love it! She has to give it a go at higher grade tournaments. Once she's reached the top 200 or so she won't be able to go much higher playing only G4 or 5. She needs to step it up. And shake that early loss in ODense off. GL!

Jun 25th, 2011, 08:19 PM
Tough Q-draw for Cecilie. If she wins her first match, then she'll have to play qualy final against Malin Ulvefeldt (SWE) who just won the Odense ITF today (assuming they both win their 1st Q matches)!

Cecilie and Malin did play against each other in a really tough three set G4 final in Sweden in January, so it could be close. But Cecile will have to win her first match before we should speculate any further...

Jun 26th, 2011, 08:31 AM
Yes, this will not be easy. Already in the first match she might face a Dutch player ranked ITF-330. It will be interesting to see if Cecilie is up to the challenge.

Biesterbos Open 2011, Netherlands (G2):

QR2: Rosalie van der Hoek (NED) def. (8)Cecilie Melsted 2-6 6-3 7-6(8)

Tough loss after a really long 3rd set tie break, and after leading a set

Jul 9th, 2011, 07:55 PM
Cecilie won the Danish U16 championship 2011 (outdoors) defeating Martine Ditlev 6-4 6-1 in the final. Cecilie also got a silver medal in the doubles (with Martine Ditlev) and a bronze in mixed (with Anders Arenfeldt Holm).

Jul 9th, 2011, 08:09 PM
Well done. I believe she lost to Martine earlier this year so good to settle the score. However, I am puzzled how they could lose the double. Maybe be good double teamwork was affected by the previous single match ;)

Jul 17th, 2011, 04:26 PM
Cecilie was in the final at the Kronborg Open today - a part of the Danish GP series. Cecilie was up against Mai Grage and lost 6-2 6-2. Mai Grage has been on fire in this series: It was Mai Grage's fifth win in the seven tournaments played so far!

A final is a great result for Cecilie though.

Jul 18th, 2011, 07:23 PM
Cecilie has a new blog entry at tennissporten.dk (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/u16-danmarksmesterrlm-4068.php).

She's in a G4 in Prague (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentoverview.asp?tournament=1100024290), Czech Republic, this week.

A lot of photos from Kronborg Open the past week can be seen here (for photos of Cecilie, see particularly "Søndag" page 3 and 4):

Aug 9th, 2011, 09:17 PM
Very quiet around Cecilie Melsted the last 3-4 weeks. She pulled out of the tournament in Prague in the 2nd round and did not play since. However, she is playing National Championsships this week where she is 2nd seed.

Aug 10th, 2011, 08:43 AM
Cecilie won 1st round against Frederikke Svarre 6-3 6-4. Perhaps a bit closer than I had expected. Sofia Helgstrand in round two should be no problem if Cecilie is fit. A QF vs Emilie Francati is possible if Emilie wins today.

It's a bit strange that Cecilie doesn't play dubles at the Championships, since she won both the outdoors and indoors doubles titles in 2010 (Cecilie's first senior titles). She is playng mixed though.

Danish senior championships 2011 (outdoors)

Mixed Doubles, Final

(2) Cecilie Melsted/Mads Engsted def. Martine Ditlev/Morten Garbers 6-1 6-2

I'm glad Cecilie could win another title. Well deserved! Morten Garbers was probably pretty tired, though, as he had just lost the singles final in a tough 5 set match less than an hour before the mixed final.

Now I'm looking forward to see Cecilie in some International tournaments - hopefully soon.

Your wish has been heard :). She just sqeezed herself into the MD of a G3 on Cyprus (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100024351&event=1100139207&order=Position&gender=Girls) starting September 6. She is also on the entry list for two other G2-tournaments this week but I guess she will go to Cyprus as she will have to qualify for the other tournaments.

Aug 17th, 2011, 10:20 AM

Great! I'm looking forward to it. Of course 8as you mention) we don't know yet which of the three tournaments she'll play (withdrawal deadline is 23 August) but the G3 would probably be the best choice for her.

Aug 22nd, 2011, 03:00 PM
Cecilie is still on the entry list for all three tournaments (withdrawal deadline is tomorrow). She's just one spot from the main draw at the G2 in the Czech Republic, and could possibly go directly into main draw after the deadline tomorrow. But I think the G3 would be a wiser choice. The 1st round draw could be rather nasty for Cecilie at the G2 tournaments, since there's a big possibility that she'd draw one of the seeded players.

On another note: Cecilie had a re-match against Emilie Francati in a senior club match two days ago. Cecilie won convincingly 6-3 6-1, and it seems like she's back on track.

Aug 22nd, 2011, 04:55 PM
Prague sounds much easier travelwise but surely it is better to focus on where to get some wins. There might me many of the same players entered for both tournaments so the entry lists could change a lot on Tuesday.

Aug 23rd, 2011, 06:15 PM
Cecilie decided for the Cyprus G3 tournament. Probably the wisest choice. She'll be seeded and will probably get an easier draw than at the other tournaments.

Aug 23rd, 2011, 07:52 PM
Good choice of tournament. Good luck, let's win some matches :)

Aug 30th, 2011, 05:25 PM
It looks like Cecilie will focus on higher tier tournaments from now on. She has entered a G2 in Xiamen (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100024399&event=1100139487&order=Position&gender=Girls) in China later in September. There is another G2 in Beijing in the following week so a good guess will be that she will play both tournaments. It will be interesting to see.

Well done. If she plays well she can win the tournament. However her next opponent, 3rd seed Ipek Soylu from Turkey, has won a lot of matches lately so it will no be easy.

Sep 8th, 2011, 07:01 PM
Cecilie lost the QF to the 3rd seed 36 57. However, she is in the double semi.

Sep 8th, 2011, 07:17 PM
Ipek Soylu from Turkey was too good as you had sort of suggested. Good luck in the doubles then!

GL in the final!

Sep 13th, 2011, 07:52 PM
Lost the double final in a tight match. However, still an acceptable tournament for Cecilie and she also improved her ranking from around 280 to 260.

Next tournaments will be G2's in China for the next two weeks. That will be quite a challenge. Good luck :)

Sep 14th, 2011, 07:22 AM
I agree, Cecilie's results in Cyprus weren't too bad. Ipek Soylu, the girl who defeated Cecilie, won the tournament in a very convincing manner without losing sets, and not losing too many games either. Soylu lost 8 games against Cecilie, but only lost 11 games in her other four matches including the SF and the final. I know we shouldn't read too much into such figures, when we haven't actually seen the matches. But I think it's safe to say that Ipek Soylu was by far the best girl at this tournament.

I'm looking forward to the G2 tournaments in China. These tournaments have a 32 player main draw with 8 seeded players and 8 qualifiers. Of course Cecilie won't be seeded, so there's a big risk that she'll draw one of the seeded players in first round. Drawing a qualifier will not be too easy either at this level. Good luck :yeah:

These tournaments are just much stronger compared to the G4 she normally plays. Good luck next week. Hopefully she will be able to reach a QF.

Sep 29th, 2011, 03:57 PM
Cecilie lost 1st round in Beijing. Not really the best results in these Chinese tournaments.

Oct 10th, 2011, 07:14 PM

Wow wow wow!

Cecile won the Danish GP Masters today! This was quite a surprise. Terrific tournament for Cecilie!

Pool matches:
Cecilie Melsted def. Martine Ditlev 6-2 6-2
Cecilie Melsted def. Malene Stripp 1-6 6-0 6-2

Cecilie Melsted def. Emilie Francati 3-6 7-5 6-2

Cecilie Melsted def. Mai Grage 3-6 7-5 7-5

Beating Mai Grage in the final is quite a feat. Mai has won 7 of the 8 GP tournaments in which she participated (Mai was beaten by the Swede Sandra Roma in the 8th tournament). Congratulations to Cecilie and good luck with your next season :yeah:

Nov 27th, 2011, 05:27 PM
Excellent result. Cecilie has not performed as expected on the ITF Junior Tour during the summer and autumn but this is really great. What a turn-around. Well done :)

Nov 30th, 2011, 05:45 AM
Next tournament for Cecilie seems to be a GA in Mexico between Christmas and New Year. The entry list (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100025731&event=1100152524&order=Position&gender=Girls) is now available and Cecilie is just outside Main Draw but she will surely get in. A good guess is that she will also be playing the G1 in Costa Rica in the following week but entry list is not ready yet.

Great that she's playing some higher grade tournaments again. GL!

And here is a photo after her GP Masters win saturday (from tennis.dk (http://www.tennis.dk/Nyheder/2011/November/billeder.aspx)):

Cecilie is well within the main draw of GA in Mexico and G1 in Costa Rica. The entry list for Venezuela is now out and she will also get in for sure. It will be interesting to see how she can perform in these high tier tournaments. Hopefully she can keep up the good performance seen in recent matches.

This tournament has a really weak draw considering it's a GA tournament (only three top 50 players in the draw)! This tournament is worth as much as a Grand slam tournament (ranking wise). It's a great opportunity for Cecilie to earn some ranking points. Winning one match will earn her the same amount of points as winning a G5 tournament.

But I've noticed that Scandinavians often struggle at these tournaments. Ellen Allgurin of Sweden played three tournaments in Mexico and Florida recently and lost in the 1st round at all events. Maybe it's difficult to adjust from European winter to the radically different climate of Central America? I don't know. But I hope Cecilie can maintain her good form and play well and win som matches. GL!

I agree. Actually a good choice of tournament considering that she has to defend quite a few points from last year (QF and F in Sweden G4's). Even though the tournament is missing the top-30 players there are still a number of strong top-150 players in the draw. But Cecilie has shown before that she can play well against good players so hopefully she will be at her best during these high tier tournaments in Central America. It is a good opportunity for her. Good luck :)

Cecilie's draw in Mexico (until 3rd round):

Valeria PATIUK (ISR) (13) Vs Carmen Araceli CORDOBA (MEX)
Cecilie Lundgaard MELSTED (DEN) Vs Isabel PALACIOS-MACEDO (MEX)

Dec 26th, 2011, 09:52 AM
That is a good draw considering this being a GA tournament. Good luck.

Abierto Juvenil Mexicano, GA

1R, doubles
Melsted (DEN)/Odegaard (NOR) d. Cordoba (MEX)/Vazquez Montesinos (MEX) 6-0 6-3

Cecilie will play 2nd round matches today according to the OOP (http://www.abiertojuvenilmexicano.com/OrdenJuego28Dic.html) (both singles and doubles).

Dec 29th, 2011, 07:34 AM
Abierto Juvenil Mexicano, GA

2R, singles
(13)Valeria Patiuk (ISR) def. Cecilie Melsted 6-1 6-3

2R, doubles
Benoit (BEL)/Zimmermann (BEL) d. Melsted (DEN)/Odegaard (NOR) Walkover

The Norwegian had retired in her singles match earlier in the day, so she was the reason for the walkover. I hope it's nothing serious and that she's OK for the next tournament in Costa Rica.

Maybe Cecilie should have done better here: It was such a golden opportunity. But she did earn some valuable ranking points! I'm pretty sure she has new career high ranking after this event. GL in Costa Rica!

Dec 29th, 2011, 04:40 PM
Yes, a bit disappointing even though the opponent has good results. But still: Playing a girl outside top-100 for a place in R16 of a GA tournament is a huge opportunity that she will not get again any time soon. This was a big chance to move up the ranking but she of course also needs to have the level reflected in the ranking.

Copa Del Cafe, Costa Rica, G1

Daniela Schippers (GUA) def. Cecilie MELSTED (DEN) 6-4 2-6 6-4

A bit disappointing as Schippers is actually ranked below Cecilie. At least she took it to three sets. Cecilie plays doubles with Arconada of USA - a 13 year old. GL!

Not a good week for Cecilie. Hopefully she will be able to make a strong finish in next week's tournament in Venezuela. Good luck.

Jan 4th, 2012, 11:06 PM
The good thing is that Cecilie has moved up quite a bit on the ITF rankings. She's now #188 - by far her best ever. This is partly because of the points won at the GA in Mexico, but also because all girls born 1993 are now removed from the ranking list!

This means that it will be a lot easier for Cecilie to get entry to higher grade tournaments (lower grade?). Actually #188 is good enough to secure her MD entry to all G2 tournaments, maybe even all G1 tournaments and a few GA tournaments (based on the cut-off list for 2011 (http://www.itftennis.com/shared/medialibrary/pdf/original/IO_61517_original.PDF), which I haven't studied too closely)! Although aiming at G2 & G3 would perhaps be better for her at the moment.

But I'd like her to win a couple of matches in Venezuela :)

Jan 5th, 2012, 08:44 PM
I agree that she should go for higher tier tournaments. She is not getting any younger and I guess she wants to target a ranking around top-100 by the end of 2012 that will give her access to junior Grand Slams in 2013 (or at least the first one in Australia). To do this she needs to play G2 and G1 tournaments in 2012 (and win matches). When looking at her ranking points she will lose 30 points from the final in Västerås last year and already in March she will lose another 30 points. She needs to score some points to avoid dropping down the ranking and I guess the next G1 tournament in Venezuela starting upcomming Monday will be a good opportunity :) Good luck

Copa Gatorade, VEN, G1

Ana Gabriela Gerbasi (VEN) d. Cecilie Melsted (DEN) 3-6 6-4 6-2

Cecilie doesn't play dubs at this tournament so her Central-/South-American journey is already over

I'm sure this trip could have been much better (tennis-wise), but just keep working! :)

May 7th, 2012, 08:34 PM
What is Cecilie Melsted doing? Very little ITF activity lately and no participation in Baastad 10k, is she injured after FED Cup?

May 8th, 2012, 06:51 AM
Apparently she's playing the KB Grand Prix tournament this week (draws can be found here (http://www.tennis.dk/turneringsprogram.aspx), or in pdf format here (http://gupl.dk/678998/)). She's playing 1st round today.

I'm surprised she hasn't played more international tournaments (junior ITF's or 10K's). Her ITF ranking was quite good at the start of the year, and she could easily have entered the md of almost any junior tournament. She hasn't played very much though, and is actually ranked lower now than she was 14 months ago (#288 now; #260 in March 2011).

It seems like she's going to play a couple of G4 ITF's later this month:

22 May - 27 May 2012: SEB Outdoor Open, Sweden
29 May - 02 Jun 2012: Estonian Junior Open

May 8th, 2012, 07:30 AM
I guess it's not all about tennis! From her twitter (https://twitter.com/#!/cecilie_melsted) 20 hours ago:
English exam in school today, kill me..!!

There's a brief update from Cecilie at tennissporten (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/itf-vaernamo-4608.php) (in Danish). She's had a minor abdomen injury (probably abdominal muscle strain), which is why she doesn't play doubles in Sweden this week. She won her 2nd round today, btw :)

Cecilie is 3rd seed in Estonia ITF (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournament/info.aspx?tournamentid=1100025831). Good luck.

I've not been good at updating this thread in 2012. I've been too busy posting about all the other Danish juniors in the junior thread, so I've just posted Cecilie's results in that thread too instead of posting here.

Anyway, the thread deserves a little update! Cecilie has played 4 ITF junior tournaments since she came back from America in January 2012. She has reached 3 semifinals and one quarterfinal. Pretty good, and very consistent, but perhaps we still lack a really special performance from her (reaching a final, and perhaps winning a title).

Cecilie got her Fed Cup debut in April, playing 2. single against Latvia's Liga Dekmeijere. Cecilie lost 2-6 3-6. She also played a doubles match with Malou Ejdesgaard against Latvia (lost 1-6 1-6).

She was a semifinalist at the Danish Indoor Championship, March 2012. Unfortunately she lost a close match against Mai Grage 3-6 6-7(8). Melsted won the doubles title with Mai Grage.

Melsted won the Danish Indoor U18 Championship, April 2012, defeating Malene Stripp 6-2 7-5 in the final. Cecilie was runner up in the doubles final.

I agree that the ITF performance has been quite consistent but maybe a bit disappointing considering the promissing results she showed a couple of years ago. Her ranking has more or less been stable around 250 for the last two years. Some of the other girls have been catching up lately and maybe the internal Danish competition can help her reach the next step. She should have the potential to reach top-100

Jun 18th, 2012, 10:24 AM
Cecilie skips the Odense ITF this week. She was seeded #1 but is not in the draw (available at ITF (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournament/info.aspx?tournamentid=1100025839)). I don't know why.

Here is a cute photo of Cecilie and Norwegian player Hedda Ødegaard (left):

Not much playing activity from Cecilie lately. Is she injured?

Jun 28th, 2012, 12:03 PM
I don't know but I suspect that is the case. She hasn't play Odense or Århus ITF, and she's not playing the Danish GP tournament Kronborg Open next week - a tournament she would normally play (being a finalist a year ago). There's also a Junior Championship coming up (MD beginning 9th of July) but entry lists are not out yet.

Meanwhile, her ITF ranking has dropped to #276. Julie Noe is not far off at #307.

On a positive note: Cecilie has been selected (http://www.tennis.dk/Sektioner/Elite/Ungdomslandshold%20vinteren%202012.aspx) for the individual European U18 Championships late July, so let's hope she's all right by then.

A new blog update from Cecilie (Danish):

Brief summary: An abdomen injury has bothered her since Fed Cup, and her form is not the best yet. She was still able to win two Danish Championship titles last week, and was a runner up in mixed. Next tournament is European U18 Championships (http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournament/info.aspx?tournamentid=1100027167).

Good luck :)

I posted Cecilie's scores from the Junior Championship finals in the Danish junior thread a few das ago but I might just as well post them here:

Danish Junior Championships, outdoors, U18:

(1) Cecilie Melsted def. (2) Malene Stripp 6-4 6-0

(1) Cecilie Melsted/Sofia Helgstrand d. (2) Malene Stripp/Frederikke Søchkel 6-1 7-6(9)

(2) Malene Stripp/Jonathan Hannestad d. (1) Cecilie Melsted/Andreas Moltke-Leth 6-7(4) 7-5 [10-4]

Melsted now has 20 Danish Junior Championship titles (singles, doubles, and mixed), if I'm not mistaken!
