View Full Version : Projected Ranking ( Zurich '01 points off )

Oct 14th, 2002, 12:37 PM
6099 01 Serena Williams
4844 02 Venus Williams

3576 03 Jennifer Capriati

Forget 'Can Amelie catch Jenn?' THis is the REAL battle. Kim vs Amelie for #4. Winner doesn't have to play Serena til the semis at OZ.

3132 04 Amelie Mauresmo
3020 05 Kim Clijsters

One of these players will likely be seeded #9 at OZ. I don't think it will be Hantuchova.

2796 06 Monica Seles
2775 07 Justine Henin
2599 08 Jelena Dokic
2490 09 Daniela Hantuchova

Injured vet division

2352 10 Martina Hingis
2155 11 Lindsay Davenport

1845 12 Anastasia Myskina
1635 13 Chanda Rubin
1586 14 Magdalena Maleeva

It's good to be one of the top 16 seeds. So let's fight over it.

1554 15 Silvia Farina Elia
1471 16 Anna Smashnova
1397 17 Elena Dementieva
1344 18 Amanda Coetzer
1337 19 Patty Schnyder
1315 20 Sandrine Testud
1264 21 Nathalie Dechy
1224 22 Tatiana Panova
1202 23 Eleni Daniilidou
1193 24 Ai Sugiyama
1183 25 Lisa Raymond

Dokic doesn't play the AO so there's one seed space open in the top 8...considering that she'll be in the top 8 come january.

Well I don't really expect the ranknigs to change much before the OZ Open. Even if Lindsay does well in Sydney, it won't count for her seeding at the OZ. I think Kim could pass Amelie at the Chase, IF she can defned her semi-finals points. I think it'll go like this

DO you actually think DOkic will hold to that ridiculous stance? Why not go to OZ and make $100,000 or so? SHe can always donate it to a questionable political organization or something.

Dokic didnt go this year and shes said repeatedly she wont be back next year, and i dont think she'd risk her pride to back out of those promises. So there'll be a top 8 seed left open.
Does Davenport get a special seeding for the Aus Open?

"SHe can always donate it to a questionable political organization or something"

OMG thats hilarious :D

Lindsay's protection seedings run out after this event

If Dokic did go to OZ, she would need someone to withdraw in order to get a top 8 seeding. Of course, this would give her a chance to throw a hissy fit and claim that her #9 ranking was "a fix".

6099 01 Serena Williams
4844 02 Venus Williams
3576 03 Jennifer Capriati

These three almost surely won't move. Jen isn't defending much at the next couple tournaments.

3132 04 Amelie Mauresmo
3020 05 Kim Clijsters

Kim has LA semifinals to defend. Amelie doesn't have much to defend. Conventional wisdom says Mauresmo gets the #4 spot, but if Clijsters continues her play, she could make this interesting.

2796 06 Monica Seles
2775 07 Justine Henin
2490 08 Daniela Hantuchova

I eliminated Dokic. She won't play Australia. I expect these rankings to be totally changed for OZ: Hantuchova #6, Henin #7, Seles #8.

2352 9 Martina Hingis

Martina isn't defending much. OZ Open rankings are decided before the Adidas International is completed, so her title there has no bearing on this.

2155 10 Lindsay Davenport
1845 11 Anastasia Myskina

Lindsay is defending a lot, Myskina a little. These two will do an Australian flip-flop.

1635 12 Chanda Rubin
1586 13 Magdalena Maleeva
1554 14 Silvia Farina Elia
1471 15 Anna Smashnova
1397 16 Elena Dementieva
1344 17 Amanda Coetzer
1337 18 Patty Schnyder

What a wasted talent at #18. Anyway, expect Coetzer to push through and Elia to tumble down a bit.

My projected OZ seedings:

1. Serena Williams
2. Venus Williams
3. Jennifer Capriati
4. Amelie Mauresmo

5. Kim Clijsters
6. Daniela Hantuchova
7. Justine Henin
8. Monica Seles

9. Martina Hingis (should she play and make it to the fourth, I forsee a quick death at the hands of #s 5-8)
10. Anastasia Myskina
11. Lindsay Davenport
12. Magdalena Maleeva

13. Chanda Rubin
14. Elena Dementieva
15. Amanda Coetzer
16. Anna Smashnova

Hantuchova and Henin wont finish ahead of Monica, atleast not Hantuchova, you can hold me to that

Oct 15th, 2002, 02:47 AM
mmcdonald, I think you're right about Hantchukova. Yes, she's doing very well. But Monica has a lot of experience to draw upon.

o0O0o, why are you expecting Coetzer to move up? I like her, and so wouldn't mind that happening, but I'm curious why you think that will happen.

Oct 15th, 2002, 02:58 AM
It really depends on how much Monica plays. I have a feeling she will play Los Angeles, and the very first week of the season. That should be enough to keep her ahead of Hantuchova, and maybe Henin too.
