Williams are speed demons to quote from Chris Evert.....
and the are power demos too...
but are there anyone else on the tour who can match that?

looking at TOP 10.......
Jen, Momo, and Lindsay are nowhere near them...
Dokic can run but not fast enough.....
i am not sure, but i think Hingis comes close
and Clijster, Henin, and Hantuchova are not far behind,
to match them in power, is i guess i would have to say
Lindsay and Jen are right up there with them,
but following that would probably Clijster....

then outside TOP 10......
well, i think i heard from one of the commentators
saying that Panova is actually the fastest player on the tour,
is it true? and are there speed monsters outside top 10?
Coezter can run, but not as fast IMO.....
and for the power part, i guess the Alexander has a big serve
so her groundies should be pretty powerful too,
and Lucic though outside TOP 100, has that,
Safina and Casanova are developing but are they
gonna improve their strength enough to match the Williams?
who else has the power to match groundies w/ Williams
outside top 10? can someone provide a list of fastest serve

I dun understand why people said Jen is slow, she is not slow at all, in fact one of her biggest asset is the running forehand, and you dun have a good running forehand unless you are fast

Nobody in the top hundred. I'm sure there ARE players on the tour who can both run as fast, and hit as hard. They just aren't also very good tennis players.

There are some players who even themselves in trouble by trying to match Venus and Serena in speed and power.

Justine Henin can look at herself in the mirror and honestly say "I can run just as fast as them, and I can make the ball go just as fast as them."

Hantchova probably looks at Venus and just assumes that her game will develop into that. Which it probably will, minus the serve.

All this serves to do is lure them both into "Quien es muy macha?" vs the Williams, when both are capable of a more finesse oriented game that has shown some success vs both V & S.

Yeah, but she can beat one. Rubin can't match them either. Or Clijsters really.

so i guess power is not the only thing
that will get you far in this game.........
are they lack in speed to back the power up?

can somebody tell me just what's wrong with Baltacha
if she has a serve that can almost match Williams?
and isnt Viele one of the most talented student from Nick B?
what's wrong with her?
too bad for them with all these serves, hopefully they can do well,
look at Wayne Arthurs, upset specialist,
w/ big serve and volley, most of his matches
end in tie breakers, give me one of those on WTA tour...plz....

Venus really does not hit 127 anymore. 122 or 123 has been her highest lately. BUT that is still HUGE!! I would say Bovina has a chance to be very fast and strong. Also cleary Jennifer Capriati is still VERY fast and VERY VERY strong. Her service technique which is not as powerful still allows her to hit 111. But clearly she is very very strong when stretched out wide or when a ball is hit into her body. Mauresmo is also another who is quite fast and strong along with Clijsters. Hantuchova is not THAT fast but does anticipate well. She has great technique for powerful shots but is not strong like Kim or Jenn when pulled out wide or when anchoring her body with those spindly legs.

Kim Clijsters.

Better athleticism, equal speed, less foot-heaviness (IMO the best mover on court).

Heavier groundstrokes, especially her forehand.

Serve topping 110 mph. Not as fast as the Williams sisters, but a big weapon for her nonetheless.

Capriati is another candidate. As powerful, almost as fast.

baltacha does a lot of unforced errors and her serve isn't reliable on important points.

i have never seen iroda play so i don't know about her speed.

and i heard that viele hits her serve in the same spot a lot of the time so players get use to it and get a rhythm going

Baltacha is only young. It's only a matter of time before she is breaking 120 mph and has cut down on unforced errors!!!! That is a fact!!!!!!

england_rules, i'm a fan of baltacha. i was just stating why she isn't at the level of the top players just yet. i'm looking to her for hope as well as tulyaganova, bielik, bradshaw, maria jose martinez, irvin, petrova, lina k. and many others to stop the dominance of the Williams sisters and at least make womens tennis interesting. i'm finding it quite boring jsut watching the top player. i wouldn't be as bored if the t.v. stations actually aired matches of lesser ranked players in the early rounds of grand slams rather than only being able to see them if they make it to the quarter-finals.

Go Elena and iroda!

btw, i've never seen iroda play, is she as slow as stevenson or pierce? how slow is she?

Venus' fastest serve was 127.4. Must not take anything away from the Queen ;)
