I always prefer watching matches. Sure, I try to get a glimpse of the top-players when they practise, but I don't stay there while matches are going on.
Practising is interesting but I think there's much more to discover by watching matches, tactics, the mental part etc.

Always matches, of course...

And then I have the losers bring me food so I don't miss a second ;)

I would rather watch practices..unless my favs are playing a match, then I go there. I like taking pictures, not just watch. I am a bit restless I guess. Need to mull around more not just sit all the time. Would like to get all of the experience as much as I can.:bounce:

I'd watch Venus, Dani, Lindsay or Marti practice otherwise match.

and during rain breaks i find my way to the indoor courts if any ;)

Right now I would be happy though if top-players came to Hamburg to practise.

TBE: I do the exact same thing. :)

watching lower-ranked players is extremely exciting ... and the matches are usually much closer than seeing top players

and i watch players practise before the matches start

Watch the lower ranked players definitely.

You see so little of them on TV, you have to grab every chance you can.

Both. I'd watch low-ranked players, then wander around and see who's practicing, and come back to watch some more matches.

watching low-ranked players playing a match! When I wanna see top players then I could watch tv, but I won't -except of Kim I don't care for the Top 10.

(and tennis in tv is boring)

lower ranked players for sure, thats the reason why i go to a tournament

It would have to be a favorite top player for me to miss a match. Say Jelena Dokic is practicing and there is a match going on, I will watch the match. It is another story if Monica or Kim were practing. I am sure I could hear Monica from the other courts and would come running ;)

lower ranked players - I just got a chance to see Webb, a former S&V canadian play Mariana diaz oliva - it was pure bliss.
I'm trying to go tomorrow to a 10K tourny IN ORDER to see low ranked players.

First option by far, top players bores...

I love both. I like hanging around the practice courts though to get autographs and meet players.

It would depend on the match, but of course if it were Martina or another of my favs practicing, i would definately rather watch that.

Wow, great question. For me it's a no-brainer to watch matches since I'm not star-struck and enjoy tennis, not stars. I had no idea so many people are interested in only seeing the stars and not in tennis matches. (Or maybe I should have suspected because of all the messages about them.)

And... the lower-ranked players are the ones who will be higher ranked in the next year or two.

And... at the lower-ranked matches, you get to pick your seat and sit up close. or whereever you like.

I would depend who was practicing, and who was playing! Although during the day I don't usually go to the practice courts, but I do in the morning before play starts.

I like watching low-rank players practicing ;) :p

Seriously, I almost never watch high-rank players... too expensive, too crowded, already seen them on telly. ;)

yeah, I'd prefer to watch my faves practicing I guess...if there was noone playing that I wanted to see - but then that's also not very likely so... ;)

lower ranked players ( I like ) playing a match
thats why I have pics of French open of Loit , Castano , Cl.Fernandez, etc and only one of Venus (taken for a Williams fan ) practicing

Of course I wd have prefered top players in a match (Conchita vs Justine , but got the wrong tickets  )

My priorities:

Watching a member of my eternal fanship play a singles-match.
Watching a member of my eternal fanship play a doubles-match.
Going to the toilet for two minutes.
Taking my place on court ready for 1. or 2. when the prior match appears to be nearing its conclusion.
Going to the toilet for ten minutes.
Watching a member of my casual demi-fanship play a singles-match.
Refreshments.
Watching a member of my eternal fanship practising.
Wandering around the grounds, casually watching other nice players playing a match or practising.

I only watch what I consider to be attractive players. No way I'm spending my money to watch ugly women play tennis.

Even if it's boring, you usually learn more things from top players when they practise.

In other words, a great day at a tournament for you might consist of sitting in the food court the whole time, staring at a beautiful young woman selling burgers? ;)

But I'd rather watch Tatiana Golovin play a match than watch a young lady of equal beauty serving refreshments.

Usually, i prefer to watch a well-fought match between lower ranked, especially when i never saw those players play live before. Of course, it also depends who is practicing, if it is a canuck, danka, venus, etc, i would watch them a lil. But i wouldn't stay there for one hour either, it gets kinda depressive.

I prefer to watch the big players pratice.

It is more interested for me because I hardly get tickets for better places, so
I can't seen them so close as the pratice sections.

It all depends on what is happenning.....Last year there was a signning session for my favourite that I really was looking forward to and I was so into this match that I forgot all about it....

I also enjoy watching players practise......and at the practise courts is really where you get a massive chance to meet them and talk to them they are uusually relaxed and time is on their side.....
