Martina and Monica made a good doubles team, too bad they both were exhausted

They beat williams/williams the week before and beat Raymond/Stubbs here so they would have been a great team for the rest of the year!

Monica really needs to play more doubles, she should play some more with AnnaK, they won a title a couple of years ago

I have this match on tape and it is :eek: awesome :eek: monica/martina saved several match points, it was just an incredible and very competitive match. Also in the pic you posted, Monica shows incredible athletism! Wow, what a get!

It's been a while since I saw it, but I am pretty sure it was 4 match points saved. I think the score was 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.

Well before that, Monica saved 6 match points to beat serena

Well, the Serena match happened later that same year. The doubles match was in january 2001, the Seles/Serena match was in july or august. I wish I could see the Monica/Serena match but nobody seems to find it...

I remember the first 3 matches Monica and Martina played together. They beat Williams/Williams, Raymond/Stubbs, and Davenport/Morariu. :eek:

I saw the live match and it was so awesome!! :D I think they saved four match points!! They reached the semis at the Adidas International with won over the Williamses and Davenport/Morariu!! Martina pulled out of the semis due got blister. They faced Raymond/Stubbs in the first round of the Australian Open and they won the match!! They also reached the semis there and losing to the Williamses.

I think that they're doubles had alot to do with their losses at the Australian that year. Monica was up 4-2 in the second against JCap but lost :( and Hingis was hella tired after beating Serena AND Venus

I don't think that playing doubles affected either player significantly. Monica was playing very defensively the whole tourament and just couldn't find her form. Martina was possibly a bit tired for the finals, but if she was, it was mostly due to that 8-6 final third set against Serena.

They both said they were tired from playing all the doubles, and with Monica not exactly in the best shape it took its toll

Sorry Justin - I meant that Sports Resources have the Seles/Hingis v Williams doubles match.

I remember watching that match on tv. The commentator said "Three of the greatest ever female players all on the same court - and then theres Serena!" How things have changed ;)

They DID win Oz.

Hingis has wonderful muscle tone in her legs in that pic. I don't really notice that now. Maybe that's something that she's going to work on in her off season.
