I guess Nancy shouldn't feel too bad and not give up hope. Also after good progress in the summer I hope Mirjana isn't too put off by her 0+0 against Venus at the US Open. They join some very good company.

Martina Navratilova lost 6-0 6-0 to Chris Evert
Martina Hingis lost 6-0 6-0 to Mary Pierce
Mary Pierce lost 6-0 6-0 to Jennifer Capriati
Monica Seles lost 6-0 6-0 to Martina Hingis
Arantxa Sanchez lost 6-0 6-0 to Gabriela Sabatini
Iva Majoli lost 6-0 6-0 to Chanda Rubin
Manuela Maleeva lost 6-0 6-0 to Martina Navratilova
Magdalena Maleeva lost 6-0 6-0 to Conchita Martinez
Jo Durie lost 6-0 6-0 to Chris Evert

So all those players who have lost 6-0 6-0, the message is that it can happen to the players who turn out to be elite too.

Nathalie Tauziat lost 6-0 6-0 to Amanda Coetzer

LOL. "Injured" Seles loses to 6-0 6-0 to Hingis. I watched that match. I know Monica had some sort of foot problem or something. And she did play terribly. But that was a semifinal, and if she was so "injured" she wouldn't have gone out on the court and she wouldn't have gotten that far in the tournament. It's not like she played her on crutches.

'Sides, if you're going to start adding footnotes, why don't you footnote the Hingis-Pierce match, noting that Martina was like, 8 years old.

Edited especially for tennisfan333. So now we have no reason for any uptight, overly sensitive posters to become embroiled in arguments in this post. They are merely stats to show that most players at some point have had the worst kind of loss.

mmcdonald: Venus and Serena may have lost 1+1. However, the double bagel reference in the title should have indicated to you that 1+1 doesn't qualify for this thread

I don't think Chris ever lost 0+0.

Sabine Hack lost to Conchita a couple of times 6-0 6-0 while she was in the top 20 so she just about qualifies.

Don't think Gersi or Wartusch really are classed as particularly surprising players. Mind you I like Patricia but I think she must have had the worst start to a maindraw Grand Slam career ever. She lost 6-0 6-0 to Kournikova on Centre Court as you mention in her first MD match. Then she went to the French Open for her second main draw appearence and lost 6-0 6-0 to Montolio in the first round. She must have been very nervous going to Wimbledon but thankfully she beat both Srebotnik and Stevenson before losing to Osterloh.

Marlene Weingartner has endured several bagels.
6-0 6-0 against Smashnova in Berlin
6-0 6-0 against Seles at Wimby. Apparently that same day, Marlene lost to Seles in doubles by the same score!
6-0 5-0 ret against Huber- guess she didn't want to have it happen again.
Martinez D Farina 6-0 6-0 Wimby 1996 I think: Then a couple of yrs later, Farina was playing much better and they met on the same court in the 1st round and Conchita won again 6-1 6-0. Poor Silvia was very upset, she just couldn't find her rhythm against Conchita. Then they played again just 3 weeks later in a clay court final in Poland in the finals. Conchita was up 6-0 5-0 and serving for it when Silvia must have been panicking. Instead, she suddenly changed her tactic and started to charge the net on Martinez's slice. She ended up losing 6-4.
H/w, she learnt a trick or 2 as she used this same tactic against Conchi in 2001 and beat her in str8 sets both occasions.

:o

Yes that is Iva's only double bagel loss....however I would gladly swap some of the HORRIBLE losses she has suffered to lowly ranked players in the last couple years for a right royal double duck egg thumping at the hands of a top 10 player :D

Best to go out in style to Serena Williams 0 & 0 on center court, than lose to a [insert name here] on court 20 ;)

Of the seven American women in the top twenty, only one has ever been double-bageled.

THe rst of the world doesn't know, but that's the first thing they teach you as a kid in American tennis. Whatever else happens, win at least one game, otherwise, your opponent will taunt you. We hate that. Monica of course, wasn't here as kid, so the fact that she got double-bageled isn't really her fault.:)

Nadia Petrova lost to Conchita Martinez 6-0 6-0 in Moscow 1998

I always thought it was interesting and impressive that after Manuela Maleeva lost 0 + 0 to Martina Navratilova at the USOpen 1989 Quarters, they met again at the USOpen 1990 in the round of 16 and Maleeva won 75 36 63. This was Maleeva's first win over Martina in 8 tries. The next time they played in Tokyo 1990, Maleeva won again 75 46 63. Maleeva won one other match against Martina (Zuriuch 93 63 76), and finished 3-11 against Martina lifetime.

Another interesting fact is that after Iva lost 0 + 0 to Chanda (that was their first meeting), Iva won their next match 76 60! After their first two matches, all of their other matches have been extremely close:
1995 Filderstadt Hard (I) SF Iva MAJOLI 6-4 1-6 7-6
1996 Philadelphia Carpet (I) 16 Chanda RUBIN 7-5 2-6 1-6
1999 Fed Cup (WG-QF) Clay (O) R1 Chanda RUBIN 6-7(5) 6-4 8-10

xcrt: that is the point of a double bagel! You have to learn from your mistakes and come back stronger! Same with Monica and Martina Hingis. Martina double bageled Monica, but since then Monica has won I think 3 out 4 matches.

Um, no. Monica beat Martina twice in 2001, then Martina won 3 straight matches against Monica this year, with Monica winning at the US Open. So since then (including the doubles bagel) it's 4-3 for Martina, plus any other matches I forgot about.

Chris and Steffi are the only girls who didn't get double-bageled.

Martina was ONLY 14 :o when she was double bageled. Sept, 1995.

I found Kim Clijsters double-bagelling Marta Marrero at US Open 2000 quite surprising too actually.
Since Kim Clijsters wasn't really that good back then, at least not yet... and Marta Marrero just came off an amazing run at the French Open (upsetting Spirlea, Van Roost, Sidot and Neffa-De Los Rios as a qualifier) and had a good run at the tournament in Knokke-Heist (reached the semifinals by defeating Sucha, Courtois and Appelmans, the last two were playing in their homecountry).
