This thread is off to a tardy start -- people already hate the draw -- and we can only hope that Ms. Safarova does better here than in her last match.

Good luck Lucie, and *please* play to win from the first point to the last.

 Well at least since the draw came out before you made the thread, you aren't a jinxer :p

It's gonna be tough, I mean round 3 is probably as far as she can go, but I'd really just like to see her beat Cibulkova

Nice title.

The most Lucie can do here is the third round because she will never beat Serena on grass. But every time she has been given a favorable draw she has screwed it up horribly, so it would be nice to see her do well with an awful draw for once!

Davodus

That's true, maybe a hard draw will make her focus hard and play well

I'm liking the thread title! As for the draw, well not so much :help: It's shite, i mean Lucie is the highest seed in her bracket and possibly plays Serena third round. :sobbing:
Cibulkova is no grass fiend but if Lucie is Mrs Inconsistent, Cibulkova is the opposite. Tanasugarns determined game could be tricky too.
Oh well at least with less expectations Lucie might surpass herself, we can only hope. :o

I wish Safina and MJMS had pulled out before the draw :ras: then Lucie would be the 23rd seed and well away from Serena, and this draw.

Ouch bad draw. Plus i love Domi :(

Let's go Lucie, start your lawn mower and surprise us :cheer:

Lucie is third on court 6...not sure if it has a stream or not, doesn't seem to at the moment.

Well this is grass , so personally i was not exepcting something special from her. I don't think she likes this surface otherwise she will try to prepare better herself for Wimbledon. Moreover, you can't act as a grass player with just snapping fingers, movements and rebounds are different. I'm going to talk about myself, i don't know if anyone play regularly tennis here and make tournaments, i do and in my tennis club we don't have any clay courts, only hard courts, and when i have to play tournaments on clay i always have so problems because i'm not used to play on it and this is something you have to learn. I put grass in the same bag
So I tell my life and give my opinion about Lucie's on grass  I don't think it's a big deal, i'm more focusing on lucie's hard courts season :D

Congrats to Domi

Bah :o I was asleep for the match, but given that she served for the first set, I'm really annoyed that she lost. This was a bad draw anyway, but still, she loses her serve too much when trying to serve things out.

Your're right Robert.

Or I guess it's Lucie's Woeful 'Oh Well' Not Quite Winning a Match at Wimbledon Thread.

Sorry everyone. David I was following point tracker and the first set was annoying. :o

Laura, I definitely hear what you're saying about the surfaces. Sometimes I wish people talked more about tennis from a playing perspective on the boards.

I think Lucie could have a good game for grass. My argument -- and maybe I'm wrong here -- is she need only look to Nadal (or Lopez to a lesser degree) on the men's side and Makarova on the women's side to see what damage she could do as a lefty on grass.

A lefty with a strong serve like Lucie should be able to win service games and points with ease on grass. Makarova just went through Eastbourne qualies and main draw winning straight sets and Azarenka was simply not returning Makarova's serves out wide in the final.

Granted Makarova hits a lower flatter ball on groundstrokes than Lucie and doesn't have as big of a swing, especially on the forehand side. I think Lucie's form or technique is more fun to watch, but Makarova is obviously a lot more effective.

Anyway, let's stick a fork in this thread.

Oh dear what a non-starter this thread will now be :sobbing: Such a shame Lucie could have gained some points here and her last two slam results exactly the same as last year so no improvement. :( Hopefully Lucie can find some inspiration leading up to the final slam of the year

I know, I was hopeful for better results than last year given that she is now seeded :o I hope she can have some good results in the USO series and keep the seeding, and then maybe not draw one of the best unseeded players in the draw :o because the USO is a good surface for her, and she could make a bit of a run if she actually got a draw and used it...but she has the Canadian Open QF to defend leading into the USO, so she needs a couple of good results in the next few weeks to make sure she stays seeded.

Tell me about it, non Lucie fans might call us paranoid or deluded but she always seems to be presented with some of the worst draws, even seeded :( (barring a certain tournament i like to think never happened :o).

You're right i think she has good chances to advance far at the US Open, i think her groundstrokes will allow her to dominate and not have to defend too much. If only her return could just improve a fraction or she served out sets she could still get wins elsewhere.
I hope she has a solid build up and holds onto the seed to advance past the 2nd round for once :o. No more Lucie to see play for ages now. Oh well, rant over

Cibulkova is not at her best on grass, but I still think this was one of the worst, if not the worst unseeded opponent to draw..I mean she is a slam semi finalist, top 15 player...it's a rough draw. If MJMS and Safina had pulled out earlier, Lucie would have had a much easier draw, maybe she could have won a match :o

As for the USO, I would actually be happy for her to make the 2nd round and lose, so she would have more than 100 points on her ranking from a slam :o

Lucie won a doubles match at Wimbledon  4-6 6-4 6-3 over Woerle and Marosi :spit: Oh well at least she gets something out of Wimbledon.

That's very true she would have had an easier draw. What annoyed me was that Oudin :o (who i hate) snuck in as a seed and drew ALG, who has only just returned, she makes a round and Lucie as a better, more worthy seed doesn't :help:. I suppose the priority would be to get past the first round of a grand slam as it's 1/3 so far :tape:

:spit: Lucie and Aleksander made a round?!

Well that's just it, there are so many people in the 3rd round who Lucie could beat :o Cibulkova is a bad matchup for her because she gets everything back...but so many people in this draw in R3 I'm sure Lucie could comfortably beat. Always the way :o

Sigh. Such a random Wimbledon as well with Pironkova and Kvitova  The fact Petra made it that far shows Lucie's game could be adept if only she gained some confidence on the surface and :cuckoo: help.
No next week she is playing in Bastad in Sweden I think.

Good she is back out playing. She could do well during the US Open Series. Defending her points in Toronto could be disastrous.

I think she was there. It was just incredibly bad camera work. They kept looking at the coach and some others and cut Lucie's head off every time (if it was Lucie). I taped the whole match and i think this is one of the best shots of her

Is that Lucie at the top left?

Davodus

I'm fairly sure that isn't her ;) just doesn't look like her to me, plus she is playing next week in Bastad on clay, so she would probably have been there most of the week practicing...

Whoever it is the camera men didn't want us to see their face  I'll go through the footage and see if I can find a better shot of the mystery woman in Berdych's box.
