View Full Version : Will wimbledon scheduing be more fair to women this time?

All the other slams have pretty much fair scheduling for both men and women. Wimbledon has always been notoriously bad in favouring ATP over WTA ( the rise of Mugray hasnt helped :D). Will they have a better scheduling this year? I hope so..

The day on the half Murray plays, no. They'd put Nadal/Fed and Murray on Centre, meaning only one women's match on Centre.

Now, if Serena and Maria are in the same half without Caro, Kim, or Justine, and dont play the same day as Murray, they might get Centre maybe twice before the QF's

If I remember correctly, many days they schedule 2 men and 1 women match on center court.. Venus almost never plays on center court until later rounds :tape:

Federer won't move from CC since he's Federer and Wimbledon loves him and also, he;s the defending champion. Murray will not set foot on another court since he's a Scot. Nadal probably won't move since he didn't come back to defend his title last year. You can guarantee that the day Murray plays that there will only be one women's match on CC since Fed or Nadal will have to play as well.

If the likes of Kim, Justine, Maria and Serena/Venus show up on one side of the draw, you would have to hope that they play the day Murray is not playing to have more than one match on CC.

Simple solution start at 12.00
same time as other courts and all those have 4 matches on it, plus this way outside courts wont have all those idiotic snobs from 12-1pm

So why don't they start at 12 then already?

I wouldn't think so, I honestly can't imagine the organisers putting either Murray, Nadal or Federer any other court but CC.

I don't want to watch Serena or Venus routing the world #166 on Centre Court either. How about some contests on the major courts?

It is not as if Federer will be facing any major challengers in rd 1 either:fiery:

Well at least Serena will be on CC in R1 as the defending Champ. After that she'll be lucky to see it again until the QFs :fiery:

If a brit is playing a top 5 seed then yes, I think that match will be put on CC. But even if their playing say Wozniacki, I guess they'd probably be put on C1 or C2.:p (Even if she is #3)

Unless some announcement has been made that I haven't heard about then don't expect it to be any different from previous years.

Especially on the 4th Round Monday, when only two R16 matches will be played on the two main courts, whilst the men will have 4 played on them :(

So is this thread about female players or the Williams sisters?

CC and C1 schedules will be the same as always. It sucks, but why would they change it now?
As for the WS, their time on CC and C1 will be cut further thanks to the return of Clijsters and Henin (and Sharapova if she gets past the second round :o)

Mightymirza
Jun 13th, 2010, 03:37 PM
I know.. Just freaking start it at 11 or 12 like normal people :tape: that way 2 women and 2 mens match can be held easily! They r soo openly biased.. I hope mugray loses in first couple of rounds :p (wishful thinking)

Personally the ideal scenario for me will be Murray losing in the first round, then all the 90 year old organisers choking on their strawberries and cream so they go into coma's and we no longer ever have to suffer their blatant sexism ever again. Although I love Wimbledon, it's a complete disgrace the way it gets away with such actions in the 21st century. Why is it that every year those who buy CC tickets have to be subjected to watching Federer and Nadal lose a couple of games over 3 sets in the early rounds of this tournament? Worldwide, the WTA has far superior star power than the ATP (Sorry folks, but Kim/Maria/Justine/Venus/Serena >> Novak/Roger/Rafa/Andy)...also, early women's rounds have always proved to be far more competetive than men's.

Ughh this always annoys me so much every year at Wimbledon, and it always ruins my enjoyment of the tournament.

But to answer the question, Wimbledon will never change this. They only gave women equal prize money because of the pressure they were put under by equality groups etc. Aristocrazy in Britain needs to die.

I remember after Jelena was put on court 18 and Serena I think was put on court 2 two years ago - I remember Larry Scott saying he was goint to take this matter up of the women always getting the short straw. What happened with the outcome of that discussiion if it ever took place?

OneSlamWonder
Jun 13th, 2010, 08:30 PM
They won't which is terrible. Women's tennis has been always underestimated in comparison to men's for no reason. To be honest, it really is much more amusing in general, while in men's you only get to see 4 or 5 same people switching around the top or so.:tape:

Also in this case, if someone deserves honor, those are Williams sisters. However, Nadal with one Wimbledon title will play more on Center court than them. Shame. I REALLY hope that racial discrimination is not the case cause that would just be new low for so called "the most important grand slam".:help:

Yeah, and I rememeber she asked for a late match because of the physiotherapy she had to take on her knee and they denied but the same day they accepted Nadal's request for an early match, so he would be able to watch football on TV :o

I feel as though the draw will have Clijsters, a Williams sister, Henin, Sharapova, and Dementieva on the same side....which would be an awesome day of women's tennis. In that case, I would imagine that a Williams/Sharapova/Henin would have a Center Court match, Clijsters/Dementieva/Sharapova would have a Court 1 match, and the remaining two would be on courts 2 and 3

ms_nut
Jun 13th, 2010, 09:07 PM
:o They almost always put just two women's matches on CC and C1 and put 4 men's matches on these courts. You'd think with the lights and maybe scheduling the matches to start earlier, they could maybe have 2 women's matches on the big courts.

 I don't expect the sexist pigs to change this year. They held off as long as they could from paying equal prize money for women and justified it by saying that they were being compensated with flowers ..:tape:

Ridiculous, but this is the most sexist slam in terms of scheduling, you feel that they find the women get in the way of the real (men's) tennis.

Nothing happened, they just decided to shut her up by scheduling her matches on courts near the Central court

Its not the age of the fans thats the problem (both young and old are proper tennis fans) - just that they don't accomodate proper tennis fans more.

If early starts are a problem, then let groundpass holders into centre for the first match. Everyone's a winner.

Things we know for sure:

1) Federer and Murray will always play on CC as long as they are in the tourney.
2) Williams sisters will only play on CC until later rounds.
3) Women tennis is not important to Wimbledon. Lol.

P.S. -- Safina will play on Court 18, Lol.

Unfortunately I agree. And its so unfair. You have a lady who has won it 5 times!!! And then a lady who has won it 3 times!! And together they have either been in the final 9 of the last 10 times!! And they don't get fair placing?? But let Andy Murray, who is from Scotland or England or wherever the hell he is from, who has reached not one Wimbledon final and is ranked #4, but he gets put on CC?? Its just really unfair to the women
